22 years specializing in the restoration of older homes & buildings, as well as designing & building residential additions & remodels in Salt Lake City's older neighborhoods. Our in-house architectural staff, teamed with our in-house carpenters & local artisans take pride in our quality workmanship & designs.
Capitol Hill Construction staff held weekly project meetings to keep us apprised of the project schedule, what we could expect over the next week, and to answer all of our questions. They even scheduled the project so that the kitchen & mudroom floors, the most disruptive part of the project, were accomplished while we were out of town for a few days. On the few occasions when an unexpected issue arose (the result of work done by previous contractors), they notified us quickly. They corrected the problems and when they saw opportunities to improve the situation, they made suggestions and provided us with options. We appreciated their flexibility in solving problems as they found them. As a result, not only are the bathrooms and kitchen beautiful, but we also feel safer knowing the plumbing and electrical problems which had existed previous to this project had been fixed. We reiterate other reviews which describe the workmanship, care, attention to detail, and the quality of skilled craftsman they employ. They did excellent work, they showed respect for us and for each other, and every single person on the job was a joy to work with. The best part, of course, is the project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget!! It was a pleasure working with Capitol Hill Construction. They exceeded our expectations and we recommend them highly.
Description of Work: We used Capitol Hill Construction to totally remodel two bathrooms, replace the kitchen and mudroom floors, update light fixtures and plumbing, and stain a deck. The bathrooms were completely gutted and redesigned. At the beginning of the project, architect, David Richardson, met with us on-site to help us understand the scope of the project. Mr. Richardson collaborated well with our interior designer to develop design options and detail finishes. In turn, he provided architectural drawings to ensure that we all had shared expectations prior the beginning of construction. The work included new wainscot (one tile and the other wood paneling), custom vanities with marble countertops, a medicine cabinet and a mirror, new stone tile floors, a euro shower, new plumbing fixtures and hardware, and paint. The house was re-plumbed, a new wood floor was installed in the kitchen which exactly matched the adjacent floor, and Marmoleum was installed in the mudroom. Several new can lights were installed along with a new pendant light in the kitchen. Finally, the backyard deck was refinished and looks like new.

The workmanship, care about protecting our house, attention to detail, and quality of skilled craftsman were exceptional. All subcontractors were very polite, consulted us on any significant issues/choices. The overall cost was more than other options but I believe to outcome of the project demonstrates it was well worth it. Capitol Hill was very involved in helping with design, fixtures, tile etc. I highly recommend them for any high end remodel. We had a few delays from the planned timeline but they were communicated in a reasonable time. David was extremely good to work with but think through want you want ahead of time. He will have opinions on design and you will end up with a better outcome if you've know what you want.
Description of Work: We recently completed a complete tearout and rebuild of a 2nd floor bathroom in our Historic Register victorian. It involved a complete demolition of the exiting bathroom. We had a significant amount of detail work that required coordination of the tile and trim. Capitol Hill provided cost options for custom trim to match our existing house or standard available trim that was 'close' allowing us to make appropriate aesthetic and cost choices. We needed some unexpected masonry work but everything was just as planned. We moved a close and radiators and created a split powder room/full bathroom.

Description of Work: We used this as a small project to try out Capitol Hill Contruction and were very pleased with the outcome. We worked with Ben to add scrollwork to window frames of our house to match historic style of existing windows.

They are very good. They have done very good work. I seen him remodel the house that we bought. He does good work and he has an engineering degree. If I had somebody do the work I would have him. When I asked him something he always has answers. When I have looked at the work they did down the street it was excellent. They have figured out how to fix the garage door. They took the time to learn how to do it and they did it whereas others would have said no we don't know how to do it. They made the garage doors for me. I seen the garage doors they made for their offices and they did a very nice job.
Description of Work: I used the service of Capitol Hill Construction this fall to fix my garage doors.
