Apollo was supposed to clean out the sewer line from my house to the street just before I purchased my home. Eight days after moving in, I had sewage backing up from both drains in the basement. It took five hours for professionals to clear the clog. Obviously, Apollo didn’t actually clean out the sewer line. Or, if they did, it was done very badly. If the line had been properly cleaned, this couldn't have happened a week later. I contacted Apollo, spoke with both owners, Blake and Debbie, and asked them what could be done to help me. Both said they wouldn't do anything to help and don't offer a warranty or guarantee for their work. They were extremely rude and insulting. Now I'm dealing with disaster cleanup, and I have a $10,000 insurance claim on a house I'd owned for a month. And I've spent $2000 out of pocket to cover fixing the plumbing issue and my insurance deductible. Don't hire Apollo. Avoid their incompetence, insults, and outright lies--and the nightmare that I've experienced.

Response from Apollo Rooter
Ms. [Member Name Removed] was not our customer in this situation, we were hired by a contractor who was flipping the home for re-sale. The Contractor asked us to clean the sewer line as he was wrapping up final renovations, but several weeks before the home was occupied. The contractor had previously done a camera inspection that indicated there was debris in the line that the camera could not pass. We thoroughly cleaned the sewer line with a cable and 3.5" cutter from the roof vent access for 150', cleaning the line 2 times. The contractor, our customer, was present at the jobsite while we worked and saw that we were cleaning the line thoroughly. The cutter did go the full 150’ of cable length & everything appeared great, with no signs of problems in the line, so another camera inspection did not seem to be needed. The cleaning seemed to take care of any problems the initial camera inspection had encountered. Weeks later Ms. [Member Name Removed] purchased the home and moved in and apparently the sewer did back up. We don't know what happened at the property between the time we cleaned the sewer line and when the sewer backed up. In the end, Ms. [Member Name Removed] remembered she had a home warranty so she decided to use the home warranty to service her home. Our customer was present on the jobsite when we cleaned the sewer line. He saw our thorough work and the sewer was draining fine. What happened after we left the property and while Ms. [Member Name Removed] was living at the home in unknown. We did the job that our customer asked us to do.

Called around 9 am and able to get an appointment on the same day. I was told they'd come between 1 pm and 3 pm. As soon as it became 3 pm, I received a phone call with an update from Tony that he would arrive within an hour. I was at work and my husband stayed home to meet him. As I got home he was just leaving. He told us an approximate location of the problem in the drain and told us what options are available if we want to fix it for good. He was friendly and not intimidating at all like others I dealt with before. And the price was good.

He did a great job, laid down newspaper to keep tile clean. I pulled the toilet, so he could get his equipment and root out the line. He cleaned up a NASTY mess from the shower after cleaning the line. I would recommend Blake in a heart beat to anyone needing drain line clearing.

We've been calling Donna Lee and getting drains cleaned by Blake, or associates, for nearly 15 years. He's generally provided a good value. Today was somehow different. He solved the problem but instead of charging per drain cleared, e.g., $85 for a kitchen sink he did earlier in the month--this time (at the end of the service) he explained his hourly rate was $120 per hour, that the service took longer and he'd back it off to two hours. The invoice was $240 to clear a drain pipe that was blocking two bathrooms. Nearly eight years ago, in December he was good to get on the roof and clear the same drains. This time he decided to try a different roof vent--and it didn't solve the problem. When he ran cable down the other vent (same one that worked in 2007) the drains cleared. He didn't consider this decision (which cost us more, significantly more) to be his problem. He also spent time walking around in front yard with metal detector looking for a clean out. This didn't seem essential. Had I known he was "on the clock" I'd have requested this not happen. My resulting feeling at the end of the service (which i believe is his normal, good quality work), and hours after he left, is I'll look elsewhere for this service next time. It's kind of too bad. I've appreciated all the good-value jobs he's provided in the past. Blake will still have plenty of customers to keep him busy--without our business.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry that you were not satisfied with our continued service. We have serviced this jobsite multiple times over the year. The home has a history of backups in both the sewer line and various branch lines. This home has a unique sewer layout with many unknowns. (A standard sewer pipe in a standard home has one 4" sewer line, one 3-4" sewer roof vent access, and is less than 150' in distance.) This home has two sewer pipe roof vent accesses, the total distance of the pipe is unknown, the direction the line runs outside of the home is unknown, and where it meets the city line is unknown. There are many unknowns that make this jobsite more complex. When we service a standard home with a standard sewer line it takes us about 45-50 minutes to complete the service call. When there are complications or unknowns, it takes time to work through those additional factors. It has always been our policy for 30 years to charge for additional time over one hour and to charge by the drain. We could charge $500-$1000 per job like some of the huge franchise companies regardless of whether the job takes 45 minutes or 4 hours. Or we can charge $120 per hour so those jobs that take only 45 minutes can benefit from the savings and those jobs that take 2 hours still only cost $240 compared to the hundreds of dollars the franchise companies charge. We have a previous sewer history at this jobsite of cleaning the sewer line from one access, only to return a few weeks/months later to clean another section of the sewer pipe because another new blockage has formed. Unfortunately, the blockages have not always been consistently in the same spot in the pipe. Our most recent service call did take 2 hours of labor so that we could be thorough and clean both vents and the entire pipe from the furthest pipe to the city junction, thereby giving the homeowner a longer interval between cleanings and stressful backups. We are one of the few companies that offer to clean a sewer line from the vent, where possible. (If the pitch is too steep, or weather dangerous we will decline the vent option). The franchise companies will not even attempt a roof vent access due to liability issues. Blake did take a few minutes to try and locate the outside cleanout in the yard, but he did not charge the homeowner for the additional 20 minutes he spent trying locate the cleanout. On more than one occasion, our previous job history at this house shows that it has taken over one hour to clean this complex sewer line. The many factors of the sewer system here take time to work with. In the past the homeowner has not complained, and has understood that it takes time to do a thorough cleaning on his system. He has previously been charged for time over one hour, paid the bill willingly, and called us back for repeat appointments. We are not sure why this time he was not satisfied with a thorough cleaning of his whole sewer line from the furthest vent to the city junction so that he could get the longest interval possible in between cleanings. Thank you for your review. I hope you will understand our desire to be thorough at our job, yet still be fair to our technicians who must work within the parameters that complex sewer systems sometimes contain.

Prompt, same-day service. Very competent. Reasonable price. The whole thing took less than 90 minutes. We have flow!
Description of Work: Cleaned out two drains: kitchen and a lavatory. The kitchen was suddenly and completely gummed up and the lavatory had been slow for a year. It turned out that the metal p-trap in the lavatory was almost corroded through from the drano we put in a few times. (Bad idea!) So Blake also replaced the metal lavatory p-trap with ABS.

It went super good as it always does with Blake. There was a $50 extra fee for weekend service or it would have been $80. My downstairs renter was out of town for 2 weeks... Of course that's when the drain clogged. The renter upstairs had minor issues with his kitchen sink, because all the water was coming up the downstairs sink and going on the floor. Both sinks use the same drain. Toilets worked fine different drain. So the carpets torn out , insurance claim for the damage done. I'm sure sheetrock will be torn out soon. Blake saved the day when he showed up pretty much about the right time. Cleared the drain bygoing on the roof and sending the cable down. We've used him for about 15 years and found him to reliable and honest.

I called and left a message at 8am on President's Day, and they returned the call by 9:30 and set up a same-day appointment. Blake had another appointment near my house, so they said Blake would be here between 11 and 1pm. Right around noon they called me and let me know Blake would be here within a few minutes, and he was. He came in, asked a few questions, assessed the problem, and got right to work. I think he probably worked on it for 20 minutes, which seemed a lot more thorough than the last company I called. In short, they were great. I'd recommend them.

Blake is the owner of Apollo Rooter. This was my first experience using the company. I had called other Angie Referred companies but found no one to take my call the day before Thanksgiving. Apollo Rooter's call was picked up by a live voice secretary. She explained that they could help me on Thanksgiving but asked me a ton of questions to learn of the severity of my problem. I later learned that it was not just the Holliday that prevented the appointment but that Blake was working for part of the day and could work me in. When he showed up the day after at the announced time he was in full uniform and was driving a very clean truck. He was attentive to cleanliness the entire job. He was the owner who when asked if he had the equipment to place a camera down the sewer line he said yes but he did not fell it would be necessary. He was not trying to cross sale me, (Like so many are tempted to do) He advised me on tips to keep hair away from drain and left with a friendly smile. I was so impressed with his service that I tipped him $20.00 for his personal attention to my problem.

Blake, the owner of Apollo Rooter, ran a video camera from a manhole through a private 6and quot; sewer line that my house shares with two other houses. His video camera is 200' long and has a leveler to keep it upright. He ran it from a manhole over 300' from my house and also from a clean-out at my house to run the camera the entire length of the line. The video camera identified a tree-root problem in which the tree roots were blocking the line. Initially Blake ran the camera on wheels until he reached the tree roots. Then he pulled the wheels off and re-ran the camera so that it could slip under the roots and continue up the line. The camera also had a locator and Blake identified the position of a clean-out for the line in the driveway of our neighbor and also identified another place where another pipe came into the line in front of the neighbor's house. It was difficult to find a plumber to video this private line because the plumber had to have a camera at least 200' long and he had to be willing to go in through a city manhole where the private line connects to the main line. The city would not allow anyone to go into the 10' deep manhole unless they had special equipment such as an oxygen sensor and a tripod to pull a man out if he lost conciousness. One plumbing company gave an additional cost of over $300 just to go into the manhole. Another, highly rated company, backed out when notified that they could not enter the manhole without special equipment. Other companies had various reasons why they couldn't video this line. Blake solved this problem without going into the manhole by using a 10' length of pipe to pass his camera into the 6and quot; line without having to enter the manhole. The cost included an extra $100 to come from Salt Lake City, which is 30 miles away. Blake made a video of the line from the manhole to the tree roots and also took still photos of the tree roots. Blake did not have equipment with him to clean out the tree roots, but he recommended a business partner, who came from Salt Lake and jetted out the tree roots at a lower price that any other bids I received. I highly recommend Apollo Rooter. I wish they were closer to my house. If I lived in Salt Lake, I would only use them for drain problems.

We have been using them for over 10 years. They are prompt than any of them which is very helpful. They are very courteous and professional. They are much more reasonable than anyone else. We have contacted many others who have said that they would clean any drain for $89 but when we call them, they tell us that they are going to put us on the list. When we ask them to do the job today they say they can't do it today and inform us that to get it done today the cost would be $199. Punctuality has always been a problem because they are set up to do so many jobs in a day and they go from one to the other. They say they will come between 2:00pm to 4:00pm so he may be here at 1:00pm or 5:00pm.
