Where major dusting was to be accomplished, they failed to complete the task. Overall job performance was poor and even the painters noticed the lack of cleaning that should have been done. We are going to call and cancel anymore service with American Housekeeping.
Description of Work: American Housekeeping has been coming every two weeks to clean our house. This week they came a day early on Wednesday, because we had painters scheduled to be at the house on Thursday and Friday.

The housekeepers showed up on time and were ready to work. 3 came. However when I entered the home a few hours after they left, I found the kitchen counters were not cleaned and there were even bug shells all over the counters and the top of the refrigerator. The inside of the refrigerator was only superficially cleaned. The refrigerator handles were not clean. When I called the manager she only replied "We can come back out tomorrow to clean those, but we've already charged you, so I can't give you any money back. And we don't guarantee "move-in" cleaning." (Yes, it does say that, but it also says that only holds if they stop at a certain hour. I was never contacted to ask if they should go beyond that to finish the job and they didn't even go to the preauthorized maximum). That was it. Since I was moving in, I couldn't wait for them to come back. There was no attempt to satisfy me as a customer. No partial refund. No offer of a discount on further services. Nothing. I will not use their services again.

used the service for about 4 weeks. I was getting "short" clean every other week and "long" clean every other week. I put bags on my front door step for Big Brother Big Sister - the cleaners went through the stuff, taking several items. They did return them when I complained., Over the 6 month period of time they cleaned 4 things were broken. Two of the broken items were not a big deal and could not be replaced. the third break, I was not told about - found it when I used the item (soap dispenser) -- the fourth thing was a scency burner. When I asked how they were going to pay for it they informed me that it was MY responsiblity to know what I needed to provide and to provide it - which I did and received a check ($45) a couple weeks later. I have an office in my home that I specifically told them not to clean - it was cleaned twice. As a Federal employee, I contacted the office and asked for only "short" cleans until I returned to full duty - they did a long clean. They did not clean the master bathroom shower - next time, they left streaks on all of my stainless appliances. Two weeks ago, they did not sweep or mop the tile kitchen floors. When I came home, I swept the floor and put it in a ziplock. At that point, I was going to cancel my contract. I had called the office several times about my concerns and was fed up. However, had a busy week at work (furlough) and did not call them before they left a message that they were coming Monday. Monday morning I left a short note and the ziplock bag from two weeks ago, they did not leave a return note or anything. I asked my husband how the cleaning looked, he said good, but they left the front door unlocked. That did it, I called the office and left a message telling them what had happened and that I wanted to cancel my contract. They called the next morning and said to leave the lock box on the front porch. I was quite upset -- I think at a minumum they owed me an apology for carelessly leaving my home unlocked. as a note: I had not planned on writing a review. I am a very picky cleaner and had clearly told them I had very high expectations. I told people I was not going to give a bad review because I am so picky and maybe I was over reacting. However, after I started thinking about it - none of the above things that happened had anything to do with me being picky -- it was negligence! Will say the staff that cleaned the house were professional and very nice when I saw them.
Description of Work: clean my home. left my home unlocked, broke things, missed cleaning areas, did not follow instructions. Main office was rude and didn't really care. Attidude appeared to be one of - there are customers lined up at our door, loosing your business is no big deal.

The first couple of cleanings were great. The team came on time and they did a good job cleaning my house . I felt very comfortable having them in my home. It was after about 5 or 6 cleanings that the quality of the cleaning declined. Areas were obviously not dusted, food crumbs, garlic cloves were left on the floor - some food particles were swept under the furniture in the kitchen. I called and complained after the second time this happened and was told a supervisor would come out to re-clean which she did right away (the next day or so after I called). When the supervisor came out she was to clean the areas that I had said were not done. but she still missed the dusting as I described over the phone. The next time the cleaning team came out they did not clean any better than the previous time. I called again and was told that they have "cleaning people in training" at my house and they apologized for not doing a good job. When they said that I canceled my service. If I am paying full price, I expected proper service - otherwise I should be told about this and given a significant discount (just my thoughts but it is only fair). I was also specific about wet dusting furniture and the wood floors (not use a swiffer or feather duster on specific items) and this was not done that I could tell. Also at the time I initially set up the contract with them I asked to have the same cleaning people come each week. I was told that this would not be a problem. Obviously this did not happen as there were different people at my home each visit. As this was not what I wanted (and thought I was getting), influenced my decision to cancel service. Again, if they could not accommodate my request, they should have said so at the beginning of service. Lastly, they offered a coupon for $50 off if I recommend a friend - which I did. My friend used them for several cleanings. Even after I called and asked for it, I never got the $50. Initially they did a good job but I am sorry to say things broke down over time.

This client cancelled in October of 2011 so it is hard to discover all the facts. Unfortunately, it became apparent to me that I did not have a good office manager at that time. They were replaced with a very dependable and caring manager! The member's cleanings were $124 not $1000. This is about the amount she spent over the duration as a client. I am sorry that she never received her $50. I was not made aware of it or I would have certainly sent it. It appears accurate that she did not see the same housekeepers on a regular basis. I am not sure why this was the case, as this is not our business model nor our policy. Our company is not perfect but we have been in business for 21 years and maintain a large clientelle. This does not happen by chance. We have served some clients for 18 years. It is our intention to be professional and for every client to love us! I am very sorry that this client did not have a good experience. This is not typical for us.

They were prompt and clean. The problem is they threw away personal belongings.
Description of Work: They came out to clean the house. They did clean. The floors and the windows were fine, but they also threw away clean folded towels and unopened mail. When we called to complain we were told that it couldn't have happened with the cleaner they sent. It did happen. We found these items along with other personal items in the garbage can.

To do a thorough job of cleaning, items must be moved. I agree that sometimes throw rugs may be placed in a different location than original. But this means that they shook those rugs and cleaned under them. And as for dusting, we don't feather dust very many items, and so they must be picked up and dusted, and the surface needs to be dusted. Sometimes the housekeepers don't exactly reposition the items precisely. I am sorry we failed to make this client happy.

The cleaning I would consider as fair. They don't pay too much attention to detail. For example after cleaning the lampshades are always crooked and I also think that they could do better in the bathrooms.

For each visit, they sent a crew of three or four employees who did a good job cleaning. There was no problem with their performance on that part of the job. However, there were problems with the crews punctuality. Several times the crews did not show up at all. Other times they were 2-3 hours early or 2-3 hours late. During one visit a bookcase was scratched by an employee who slid a heavy vase across the top when she was dusting. The company did offer to look at the damage, but did not show up the day they were supposed to look at the problem. In a subsequent phone call, they offered to pay for the damages, but I had already given up on the company. I would not recommend using their services.
Description of Work: American Housekeeping cleaned our house once a month. They did basic cleaning which included dusting, scrubbing floors and showers, vacuuming and washing countertops.

This client review is from 2007 and so though their expeience was less than great, I believe they would find that our operation has improved since that time. However, as far as punctuality is concerned, we can never promise an exact time. Even though our schedules are made up with precise times, there are too many obstacles in always arriving exactly at the time we have scheduled. We have no control over things such as traffic jambs, houses earlier in the day that are more time consuming than normal, delays by clients who don't give us access to their homes on time, weather, etc. We do try very hard, for the sake of the housekeepers, the clients and the company to be right on time. However, there are too many variables beyond our control.

They did not show up two times. Each time they came out they sent a different crew, so I ended up babysitting them and work from my home didn't get done. This was supposed to save me time, but with a different crew each time it didn't. I would not recommend them.

American Housekeeping did their work quickly and the work was good. Two or three people would come to the house each time, and for the most part, they were all good. The main team was excellent but the secondary team was not as careful.

It does depend on the crew they send out, but usually they do a decent job cleaning. Usually the quality is pretty good, but once in a while you get a bad crew. I probably would not recommend them to anyone.

I go through American Housekeeping because they're a very reliable company. They always call me back in a timely manner and accommodate to work around my schedule. Great job dusting and vacuuming the house and will clean windows at extra charge.
