It went well because the guy was really honest about it, I gave him the symptoms. He had some instruments he plugged on to the electrical side. He could've put in all types of things and I would not have noticed, but he was really honest.

These guys are good! The inducer motor had been noisy for a long while. But, recently became unbearable. When it first started making noise we had a different company give us an estimate. They estimated $900 to replace the inducer motor and recommended getting a new furnace. So, at that time I decided to do nothing and see how long it would last. It's been several years. When the noise recently got much worse I looked on Angie's List for a different company and found Affordable Heating and AC. I called them and they gave an estimate of $300 over the phone. So, I had them come out and do the job. It took less than an hour. The part was $278.00 and labor was $75.00. I should have called them years ago. The technician (Kirk, I think) was very nice and professional. I will definitely be calling them again.

Each of my questions were answered quickly and completely-- with no defensive attitude. His observations and opinions on other providers were sound and complete. His estimate was not the lowest and not the highest but his experience was evident. He installed the furnace with a unique option for easy and more efficient filter adapter which I like very much. His co-workers were extremely professional, patient and knowledgeable. The service was on time and flexible to meet my schedule. No surprises; always there for me. They arrived at 8am to install and were finished by 2-3pm. (My cellar is very clean) - They came back to wrap up a few things like thermostat and a basement return as promised. Again - working with my schedule. Harold came 3 weeks later (his policy is 1 week at least) to collect full payment and review all the installation after running. He answered all my follow-up questions and provided a full binder of all the paperwork. I am extremely satisfied.
Description of Work: I contacted provider for an evaluation and estimate to replace a 40 year old furnace and water heater. It had been previously "diagnosed" by a contracted provider from my american home buyers insurance. Harold, the owner, provided a thorough evaluation that met the recommended criteria I researched on-line for evaluating a heating service replacement provider. He provided a warranty for service over and above all others. He met my requirements for the perfect mix : not too small and not too big.

Kirk was GREAT! He arrived on time and was determined to find and repair the problem with our furnace- a problem that I might add was caused by the original installing company. Jim, in the office, was also wonderful in getting our information and then scheduling a technician (Kirk) to come up the very next day. I WILL recommend Affordable Heating & Cooling to everyone I know and will call them again if I ever have other heating/cooling needs! Thanks guys!

My draft inducer motor on my 13-year-old furnace failed. I called Affordable Heating, got a quote, and verified with several other places that their prices were close to or better than other companies. Affordable had to order the part, but they sent a technician to my house the next day with the part in hand. I was most impressed that the technician didn't even try to sell me a new furnace. He first verified that the motor was bad (it was) and gave me the option of just installing the motor and leaving, or doing a tune up of the furnace (I'd mentioned that I'd like this on the phone when I first called) and then installing the motor. He was very careful not to try to push the tune up on me. He just told me his hourly rate, and how long it would likely take (and that is how long it took him) to do the tune up. The furnace hadn't been looked at for many years, and he wasn't being pushy at all, so I chose to have him really pull things apart and make sure things were likely to continue to work fine after the inducer motor was fixed (if any big problems were found, I might have chosen to replace the furnace, but it turns out that the furnace was in pretty good shape). I stood there and watched the technician do his thing. He didn't seem to mind me watching him, and he was polite and joking with me. I don't know much about furnaces, but he really seemed to know what he was doing and was quite efficient. The price of the repair ended up being in line with the original estimate. Just 36 hours later, the furnace stopped working altogether, and I was really worried that I'd just paid for an expensive repair to a fairly old furnace when perhaps I should have just replaced it. I called Affordable in the morning, and they had the same technician at my house that afternoon. It took the technician just a few minutes to determine that the thermostat had gone bad. I was a little worried that the technician was overlooking a bigger problem, but he spent the time to pull out the thermostat, directly connect the right wires to make the furnace run without the thermostat, and the furnace ran fine. He did this for me even after I'd said that I wanted to replace the thermostat myself (mainly so that I could choose the exact model I wanted, but also because it was cheaper to buy at Home Depot than from him). He didn't charge me anything for this second visit because I'd had a problem so soon after the draft inducer motor had been replaced. He even took the time to draw a wiring diagram for me that explained how to wire the new thermostat that I ended up purchasing and installing myself. I guess it was bad luck that the thermostat failed so soon after the draft inducer motor had been replaced, but it was a relief that it was such an easy repair (the furnace has been working fine for a about week now after replacing the thermostat), and an even bigger relief that I wasn't charged anything for the second visit. The technician was just as polite and helpful as he'd been on the initial visit. In summary, I was very impressed with the service I received from Affordable Heating and Cooling. It was such a relief not to have them even try to sell me a new furnace or other services I didn't need. Sure, it would be great if they could charge less, but I think their charges were fair and were comparable or better than the quotes I received from other companies. I would definitely use them again, and they are at the top of my list when the time comes to replace my furnace.

I called and made an appointment for Affordable Heating to come out and do a tune up and inspection of my furnance. It is an old furnance and I had already been told on another occassion that it was not a very good furnace quality wise. I was able to easily get a hold of someone when I called and my appointment was set for within a day of when I called. The man who came out to do the inspection was very timely, and even after I missed him because I had not heard the door (and I didn't realize my phone was on silent) he had a really good attitude even though I had cost him about a 20 minute delay. He did a detailed inspection, showed me everything that he was looking at and looking for and answered all of my questions. During the inspection he found that 2 of the 4 heat exchangers had large cracks and were leaking carbon monoxide when the furnace was turned on. He advised me not to use the heater and if I did have to use it, make sure I had windows open and my carbon monoxide detecter was working (which he then checked for me - it had gone off a few days prior when we had used the heater overnight). I was most impressed that he did not even mention purchasing a heater from them at all, but just told me to shop around and recommended a few good brands of furnances. Only when I asked him who I should contact if I wanted to get a heater from them did he give me the number to their salesman. I had already done some research into heaters and coolers earlier in the year, but was not able to purchase at the time so I had a good idea of prices already. I called Harold with Affordable that same day and he was out there that night to give me a quote. Harold was very knowledgable and once again it was 0 pressure. We talked over the different options and he gave me quotes on several different heaters. I was impressed with how he know the products like the back of his hand and didn't have to constantly refer to a pricing sheet like some of the other salesman I had received quotes from. He gave me discounts above what I was already asking for (Angies list coupons, etc) and I felt all the options were very fairly priced. I thought it was a nice touch that he also gave me back my check from the appointment earlier in the day, stating that he didn't want to charge me for bad news. I told him that I would have to discuss the options with my husband and let him know. I called Harold the next day (a friday) with our decision and they were there the following Monday morning to install the furnance. We have a small house and it was a small furnance so the install only took 1/2 a day. I was not there during the install, but my husband said they were very professional, clean, and they hauled the old furnance away. The new furnance is working great and we're happy to have carbon monoxide free heating!
Description of Work: Had them inspect my furnance which was found to be in need to replacement so I also had them replace the furnace.

My central heating system had a hole in the heat exchanger. I declined to use my regular repair service and decided to get bids for the new heating system. I called Affordable as the third bid and they were considerably less than the other two. Also, they were very prompt and helpful, with a lot of information I didn't know. On completion, they filled out part of the Questar form for rebate, and I found out that I was not eligible for a government rebate, since I had installed new windows in 2010. (No one else gave me that information.) It is getting cold outside now and my house is very warm and comfortable. I think they did a wonderful job and would definitely recommend them. I will probably call them in the spring to check my air conditioner.
Description of Work: Affordable gave me a bid, which was lower than the other two, and gave me a choice of several heating systems. On the day they installed the heater, I was a little worried because they would have to go through the ceiling joists to access the outside in order to vent the heater. However, they found a way to go out through an existing outlet on the roof, which was both safe and did not require going through the brick in the back yard. It took most of the day, from 8:30 a.m. to approximately 5:00 p.m. Everything was cleaned up and the thermostat set up for us, along with providing an instruction book. Two days later, the installer came back with a binder with the Questar rebate forms and tax forms, along with a receipt and two extra filters for the heater.

This is the second air-conditioning problem we've had this summer, and the second time we've had Affordable Heating & Cooling out to help us. I've got to say I am still very happy with how they've treated us, although we had more hiccups along the way this time around. Our blower was intermittently not blowing and we had these guys out to see what was wrong Monday afternoon (I called Monday morning). The technician diagnosed the problem as the blower motor going out and replaced it at a total cost of $250. The system worked for about 24 hours and then late Tuesday we had the same problem-- the blower not blowing air. I called Wednesday morning and they had somebody back out very quickly (before lunchtime) and this second (different) technician did a thorough examination of what was going on. He came to the conclusion that our system was intermittently freezing up due to borderline not-enough return air and a very dirty air filter. When the system had a chance to thaw out, it would start working again. He also decided that our blower motor was probably fine the whole time. I got a call later in the day from the owner Harold that he had refunded me the entire cost of Monday's visit and did not charge me for Wednesday's; I definitely feel like this business makes things right when a mistake is made and I trust them to figure things out and be fair with me.

A few days after turning on our AC this summer, we noticed drips of water from a light fixture right below where part of our AC system is in our attic. Aack! I called this company and they were able to come out the next day (pretty good, considering we are in our first spurt of hot weather and another company told me it would be a few more days before they could come). Some things had not been installed properly in the parts of the AC system in the attic with the result that condensed water was blowing everywhere and we had a lot of wet insulation and wet plaster. The repairman fixed the problems and replaced the parts that had been damaged because of the improper installation, and also did what he could to rearrange things so hopefully our attic dries out without a ceiling caving in or something. The repairman was courteous, professional, and helpful and did the work quickly. He did leave a bit of a mess (even after using his shop vac) but nothing that unexpected. The cost was less than I thought it might be, which is always a pleasant surprise. I would definitely call them again!

He made a special Saturday trip to give me the bid. He wore shoe covers in the house which pretty much sold it for my wife. His price was excellent--for the same unit he was between 200 to 600 below the other companies (6) from which I received bids. Install was smooth, his team professional. Works like a champ. Harold filled the rebates out himself so that all I had to do was fill in my Rocky Mtn Power info and send it in. Harold's labor warranty is, as far as I can tell, the best in the valley (or at least the best of the companies I researched). I recommend him highly and don't plan to use anyone else for my HVAC work while I live in SLC.

From the beginning Harold was very friendly and knowledgeable explaining the different systems available and what was best for my home. I was impressed by the price and the professionalism of the crew that came out to install the unit. They were careful to use drop cloths and cleanup after themselves. The installation of the cold air / exhaust tubes was very tricky because of the location but they did an excellent job and everything was done 'by the book' (they pulled a permit and the job was inspected by the city inspector). The inspector had no issues with installation and said it was one of the most professional jobs he had seen.

He showed up on time, always a plus, and went right to work. Very professional job. He made several good suggestions about what might need repair in the future but said they didn't need to be done immediately and if it were him, he'd wait. No hard, got to do it now sell. The price was very fair and I got more than I bargained for.

With winter coming, I wanted to make sure our two house-furnaces were working properly. I had previously used one of the top-rated providers on Angie's List but never got a good feeling from them. They were always trying to upsell me on a maintenance plan and rushing through things. My experience with Affordable Heating was excellent -- and I'm very picky about customer service. The technician showed up on time, tested the furnaces, and found they were in OK shape. I asked if I should have him back the next year and see said, only if you have a problem. He them recommended just getting a feel for how the furnace sounds and if it sounds different the next year (or doesn't heat), then call someone. It was a refreshing change from the other company. He also mentioned that he thought one of the furnaces was too loud. He took apart the blower and started sanding it and then oiled it. He definitely went above what I thought he was going to do. Finally, he checked out our humidifier, even without being asked, and noticed that the water pad was installed upside down, which could cause leaks. I had paid that other "top-rated" company $45 to check the humidifier the season before and they are the ones that installed the water pad wrong. All-in-all it was a great experience, at a fair price. I will definitely call them again.

I spoke with Harold at Affordable after getting a price quote from Neerings of almost $500 to, basically, unscrew and re-seal a join in my gasline. Admittedly it was in a rather difficult place to work -but I still thought this bid was too high. After reading the reviews on Angie's list, I called Affordable; Harold came by and gave me an estimate of $171 for the same job. They came a couple of days later and did the job with no complications. They did leave a bit of a mess that I needed to vacuum up, but, for the price, I was very satisfied.
