+ -1 moreThe bricks on my building are light yellow. They used replacement bricks that were black and stood out like a sore thumb. After contacting them about the problem, and after a couple of billings, a supervisor came to take a look at the job and agreed that it was terrible. He explained that his workers had started the job before he got there and that they had used replacement bricks from one of my non functioning chimneys that were jet black from soot. He replaced the bricks with some that he brought. They were a different size and still not a good match. They left a pile of brick dust on my flower beds and failed to clean up under the work they did around the building.
Description of Work: Repair and replace cracks in brick.

+ -1 moreIt went pretty well. They came when they said they would. It took a long time to get them but they told me upfront that they were several months out. It’s not like they just didn’t show up but they were busy and took a while to fit me in and that happens when you are dealing with a company in my high demand.. I only did part of it because it was too expensive to do all of it. The biggest difference e in terms of other companies that I have looked out was that a lot of the other companies just scribbled a number on the back of a card or something, which didn’t seem very business-like. They were pretty specific in what they were going to do and that made me feel little more confident that I understood what was going to happen and what wasn’t going to happen. In that way there wasn’t a lot of room for misunderstanding. I just wish the price was a little bit less. I live in a small town, which is north of Salt Lake City, so it is about an hour’s drive and that increases the cost. I understand it but it is frustrating.
Description of Work: I had part of the house repointed.

+ -1 moreThey did a fantastic job of cleaning the brick on my house. There was a lot of white staining under the gables and staining in other places, and now it is all the same color, and much brighter. I hired someone else to remove the staining a couple of years ago, and they failed, and I also tried to remove it myself without any success, so I am very pleased with the results. My chimney was also falling apart and they did a great job of rebuilding it. They matched the color of the original mortar perfectly, so you can't tell where the new mortar starts. They also poured a nice concrete crown, and the chimney looks great. They were friendly, prompt and very easy to work with. I would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Cleaned the exterior brick on all 4 walls of my house and rebuilt the chimney.

+ -1 moreWe had several people come out and bid on the project. The main chimney was falling apart from water damage over about 35 years. Casey Sullivan bid on the project. Abstract Masonry Restoration was not the cheapest, but their pricing was very competitive...and most importantly, my confidence in their ability to do the project was extremely high. The chimney looks incredible, and it still matches the house! They have such a large repository of brick that they were able to match the existing brink. The word "Restoration" is a perfect description of their service...they restored to the original look, but upgraded to current code and I'm confident the newly restored chimney will easily stand another 35 years.
Description of Work: Repaired a crumbling chimney top and form/pour a new concrete crown. Also installed counter-flashing on the chimney and caulked the joint between the roof flashing and the new counter flashing so that the base of the chimney is now double-lapped above the shingles.

Description of Work: My home was built in 1978 and the courtyard had settled leaving very large cracks on each side where attached to the home and a 1" gap on one side of the foundation between brick and foundation. I was told by many to tear it down, haul away and landscape for curb appeal. I did get bids on removal but as it turned out, it was as expensive to remove and haul away as it was to repair. I searched internet for contractors for repair and determined Abstract Restoration seemed to be the one who would do the best job. I called for an estimate in June and a rep, Kevin came out and we discussed what I wanted and he told me what they could do. He agreed to email me an estimate and it came the next day with a quote and all details of what it included. The quote had an acceptance to sign if acceptable and I signed, email and called for a start date. Two workers arrived exactly on start date and began the work. They were very professional and did it exactly as written and agreed upon. They cleaned up every night before leaving and were very professional in their work and polite. The job was completed the following week and I was more than pleased with the job. After the brick work was done they cleaned all the brick in the courtyard with acid. It now looks better than it did when it was originally done when the home was new. I have had many compliments on the new appearance. This is a wonderful company to work with!

+ -1 moreExcellent. The workers were professional and careful. We had Abstract test strip some painted concrete aggregate sills and provide an estimate to strip our painted masonry. We couldn't afford to add that job at the time. Two years later, we're ready to have that work done but have had no luck getting a response from Abstract to update the quote and schedule the new work. That's why I've downgraded the responsiveness. We'll keep trying since we were very pleased with Abstract's work.

From the estimator, who explained every detail and answered my questions, to the two workers who did the foundation, chimney and brick repair, I was very satisfied with all work. Very professional. As two-man crew performed work, I asked for additional work on chimney, which they were able to complete without my getting another estimate.
Description of Work: Repaired cracked foundation for 5 foundation cracks. Repaired brick mortar by removing old mortar, install crack stitches (helical rods installed in crack joints) and (re)positioning bricks for an even, balanced look. Recapped chimney with reinforced chimney crown and repaired loose bricks.

+ 0 moreI got a couple of proposals from them which I am evaluating. The proposals were really professional and top notch. One estimate was for $40,000 and the other for $8000. I think they are trying to be more than I want. They seem like a good company and they have been really responsive, I just need to see if I could come to a meeting of minds with them. I have seen them in my area doing work and they professionally do good work, though I don’t have any direct experience. I will use them if we could come to a meeting of minds.

They were very careful and seemed very knowledgeable, everything they said made sense. They had some real challenges, one wall had 3 layers of paint and they managed to get it off. They worked hard on it and we are very pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Abstract Masonry Restoration restored exterior brick walls and stand stone foundation. It was grimy and covered with paint and ivy.
