 + -1 moreArrived 30 minutes late with no courtesy call, I called him to get an update. He was on his way at the time. Did a great job cleaning the chimney, was very clean and respectful of our furniture and carpet, and cleaned everything up when he was done. The only downer was the weird history lesson we kept getting and the political comments about the president but mainly found that amusing. Took about an hour and was completely cleaned up and done. Would hire again.
Description of Work: Cleaned the chimney of the wood burning stove.

 + -1 moreWent Perfect! Great, knowledgeable and enjoyable person to bring into your house. Made sure to keep the area clean and protect the carpet. Thoroughly cleaned and inspected the chimney including getting on the roof. Recommended a cap which I had already looked into purchasing on the internet but he was able to deliver and install the next day at about the same price I would have paid to do it myself. All around impressed with his good work!

 + 0 moreJon answered my call and scheduled a visit to clean both chimneys. He arrived on time and assessed both chimneys which both desperately needed to be cleaned. He cleaned both on the spot with his heavy duty vacuum and showed me the mess that came from both cleans. He used many blankets to ensure that there was no mess. We built a fire that evening and had none of the issues of smoke that was previously happening. One of the fireboxes needed to be rebuilt so he scheduled to do that a week later. He again showed up on time. It was a complicated rebuilt and he took two needed days to complete the project that both my husband and I are very happy with. Jon is professional, straightforward, and we enjoyed working with him.
Description of Work: Jon cleaned both chimneys and rebuild one of the fireboxes.

 + -1 moreI called Jon Perry because I have used him in past years and he did an excellent job. I explained to Jon that I was going to use my 2 Buck Stoves to help heat my home because I recently was laid off my job and I needed to save money. I paid $308 (my grocery money) Jon said he would also deliver a chemical spray bottle to help break down the creosote in the stoves. I still have not received the spray bottle and I have torn carpeting in front of the basement Buck Stove which will cost over $200 to repair. Where is my savings?

 + -1 moreCalled this company to deal with a raccoon living in the chimney of our basement fireplace. He was punctual and seemed knowledgable, however he dumped a whole box of moth balls down my chimney to fumigate the raccoon out. The moth ball smell was overwhelming in my basement fireplace and the smell was coming out of my upstairs fireplace as well. A week later he returned to make sure the raccoon was gone and to do a cleanup fire where the raccoon was living. He promised the moth ball smell would be cleaned out as well. The smell is still overwhelming and I'm having to crack my windows to try to air it out. He also tramped around my house in wet/muddy boots, chatted non stop about irrelevant things, and seemed to have little concern about my time. Also made himself completely at home and sat anywhere he pleased while filthy from working on the chimney. I've called another company to clean up the stinky mess he left behind.

 + 0 moreHe was punctual, congenial, an experienced professional, covered the floor and furniture for protection. Efficient. Took less than an hour. I was grateful to be able to get an appointment within a few days of my call as we had our first big snowstorm shortly after that and I have been able to enjoy a cozy fire with peace of mind.
Description of Work: Cleaned fireplace and chimney and provided advice re safe operation and recommendations re wood (my first time using the fireplace in a rental home).

 + 0 moreOverall the job went very well. I wanted a great job and that's what I got. The stove has been in use for 3 months now and it works perfectly.
Description of Work: I highly recommend Jon Perry simply because "one gets what one pays for". In the short time I interviewed Mr. Perry and received an estimate for his work, he received two phone calls requesting his service. This man is busy, "I thought". Busy people get things done! Mr. Perry explained two alternatives for my needs. Allow me to explain. I had an old chimney for a fireplace. My concern for a free standing wood stove was that it be secure in case of an earthquake; and, that it be very safe when a hot fire was in my stove. Mr. Perry gave me two alternatives and explained each in thorough detail. I chose the safest and most efficient for my future needs. Mr. Perry arrived on time and kept to his word as previously agreed. He was prompt and thorough in his work. Most impressive was his meticulous work. He made doubly sure that all parts were secured by quality anchors and steel riveting. He fully met my expectations for safety and any future impacts caused by an earthquake. Mr. Perry has one special quality. He cares about your opinion of his work. If for any reason you are unsatisfied he will correct the problem. I find few practitionaers who are willing to do that. He is a professional with the utmost integrity.

He did a great, clean job and even suggested we get caps and a few other things done to convert our gas fireplace to wood burning. Then he went and picked up caps for us, returned a couple hours later and installed them that day.
Description of Work: He quoted me the inspection price and what it would approximately cost to convert my fireplace form gas to wood. And he stuck to those prices. He cleaned my fireplace, inspected the chimney, and instructed my husband on how to disconnect the gas line (he was willing to do it for us, but we did it ourselves) and he purchased and installed caps for us.

 + 0 moreWhen I scheduled the job, I asked John to come out on a holiday. He was reluctant to do so, but it was the only day that fit my schedule. He did not charge me extra for it. John showed up on time, and was very careful to avoid making any kind of mess. Despite the huge amounts of soot, none of it got on my carpet! I was surprised at how low the bill was. Other estimates I received were a lot higher. John is friendly, has a good, quirky sense of humor and likes to laugh. I would recommend his services. I got the impression that he tried very hard to keep the cost of my job down.
Description of Work: John came out on a holiday to clean and service my chimney. He evaluated my chimney, removed the pellet burning stove, cleaned the chimney and ensured no soot escaped into the room.

 + 0 moreOn the positive side, he answered the phone promptly, gave me an accurate quote and did the job as promised. On the negative side, he liked to talk a lot about a wide array of topics, all unsolicited. He made comments about Mexicans (my wife is originally from Mexico) talked politics, etc. there were a few times when I indicated that I had things to do, and to let me know if he needed anything. He continued to try to keep a conversation going. Overall, he did a good job and seemed reputable. I just felt he was kind of strange, and was glad when the job was done and he left.
