At the time he was convincing me that he would really help me to have both the deck work and the sauna prep, he asked for some cash for materials, which he said he could get at a special price with cash. I foolishly gave him $500, and he left and never came back or returned my calls for over month. I had almost given up and the hot tub was to come the next day, when he suddenly showed up in the evening and started to do a little work on the deck, apologizing and explaining why he hadn't come before. I again foolishly believed him, and, when he assured me he would be back to finish the work the next day but needed $350 for more materials. This time I wrote a check, thinking I could have some leverage, because I wanted him tot do the work. He never came back or answered my calls. I contacted his father, as I had done when he didn't come back the first month. Because he came, I thought his father was concerned and helping me. This time, the father acted as if it had nothing to do with him and he would take no responsibility, even though he had recommended him in the first place. I believe that both of them are doing this to others, and that my money was deliberately stolen. When I tried to get help from the police, they said that because he had returned for those couple of hours (and did the work he did badly), it was no longer a criminal, but a civil affair. They both must have known this from past experience, because they refused to talk to me or return my calls to this day. When I saw his business page (Sunsational Decks and Awnings), I read a comment from another person, who was trying to get him to come and finish a job he had started three months before. The person wrote "When are you coming back to finish the job, Steve. I've been waiting three months"
Description of Work: I contacted Steve Brewer to do some work on my deck to accommodate a new hot tub. He came and gave me an estimate, which was reasonable, but then smiled and asked me if I would like his son to do the work instead. He said he had worked with him for years and highly recommended him for the job. I called the son, Jason, who came out and gave me a lower estimate, and said he could do a special project (preparation for and housing for a sauna that I had wanted, but felt was too expensive) for a very low price (which led me to believe that I could afford to have it after all and I paid a deposit of half the price on the sauna).

Jason asked me for money to buy materials, and I foolishly gave him $500 in cash. He did not return and I could not contact him for over a month, but came the first of June and started to do the work on the deck. He was very convincing and apologetic and asked for another $350 for materials. He never returned and I was unable to contact him, but I was able to contact Steve, the father who recommended him. Steve acted as if it was not his problem and he could not help me, despite the fact that he was the original person I tried to hire. It is very clear that both of them knew what they were doing, because when I tried to get the police involved, they said that because he came one day for a couple of hours, this became a civil case instead of a criminal one. I believe that they operate together to cheat people of money for projects thay never intend to do. When I went to Steve's business page online, there was a comment by someone else who was wondering when Steve was coming back to finish a project he had started three months earlier.
Description of Work: He came to my house to give me an estimate for a deck, and then recommended that his son, Jason come to do the work. His son, Jason came to the house and gave a very attractive estimate (less than his father). Steve said that he and his son, Jason had worked together for years and was very good, and I believed him.
