Bailey's Moving & Storage

Moving Companies, Storage

About us

In 1952, using his garage as an office and warehouse, Cliff Bailey and his son Jay Bailey started Bailey's Moving & Storage in Orem, Utah with their first piece of equipment, Cliff's pickup truck. They mostly performed local moving with some distribution but by the end of 1950's they had moved their warehouse operation to large warehouse in Orem, Utah and had become affiliated with Allied Van Lines. Today, Bailey's Moving & Storage continues to have five Moving and Storage locations: North Salt Lake, Orem, Englewood, Colorado Springs, and Grand Junction. Bailey's Moving currently employs around 400 people, with around 600 employees at the summer peak. Bailey's is a top-five Booker and Hauler within the Allied Van Lines System. We are one of the largest moving and storage companies in the Rocky Mountain States.

The packers were inconsistent in their packing, some items were over packed and others were not protected well at all. We had four items broken and one item lost completly. .We were told that the move would be completed in no longer than 14 days. We recieved the stuff after 20 days. They were very poor in their communication. They did, however reimburse us for expenses incurred during out extra wait.
Description of Work: They packed and moved my home from Salt Lake City to Fresno.

Description of Work: My Husband's company paid for the service, so I do not have a price to give. Overall they listened well with what I needed. I only had one item break which wasn't a bid deal for me so I did not worry about reporting it (they would have most likely replaced/reimbursed it) They were very generous with the packing paper, so things were very cushioned. After having a moving service it would be very difficult to pack on my own again.

Terrible! The following is a copy of an email to Allied Van Lines regarding a move that Bailey's Moving and Storage did for my husband and me from Sept 23, 2013 to Sept 25, 2013 from Utah to Idaho. This is the third time that we have used professional movers. My husband is 71 years old and we were not able to physically move ourselves this time because of our age and limits on our physical abilities. Most of the problems we observed were at the destination address in Idaho. Please note that my husband and I had just installed a new wood floor in our Idaho house in the basement 5 days prior to us moving into the house. Following is an itemized description of the problems we experienced. 1. One of your movers ground his cigarette butt on our new wood floor (Marlboro brand) I have attached 2 pictures for your reference. First of all, your mover should not even be smoking on a client's property letalone inside the house. Then he chose to ground out his butt on our floor. This demonstrates a complete lack of respect for us and our property. 2. Our platform bed was put together wrong/backwards. We had to redo its assembly late at night after we very were tired on move-in day. 3.The kitchen is a galley style and the galley was blocked by a row of boxes that were stacked 3 high, all placed there by the movers. All the access to the kitchen was blocked. We had to move the boxes out of the galley to unpack them. This shows a lack of understanding and respect for us as customers. 4. The movers overstuffed the walk-in master closet and hallway with 5 boxes high of goods. We had to remove the boxes from the closet to unpack them. The movers even put a box in bathroom sink. 5. The movers stacked boxes 9 ft tall in the living room. This was dangerous and difficult for us to unstack so that we could unpack. The lower boxes were smashed because of the weight of the boxes on top of them. 6. Bracken Jones, the relocation consultant, advised that things could be kept in drawers. The furniture was turned on its side and all contents were found unorganized and/or lost in the dresser shell or came completely out of dresser. This happened to three bedroom pieces (2 end tables with drawers and the dresser). 7. Some boxes were turned upside down. A lot were marked fragile. Some had stemware and nothing was handled with care. One box, with my husband's drill bits, was turned upside down. I found tiny drill bits on the truck ramp where they came out of cracks in the box. 8. During part of the delivery day there was rain. During heavy rain times the movers sat in the truck, smoking and eating, instead of being inside, assembling the furniture that was disassembled by the crew at origin. My husband and I had to assemble a lot of the furniture. 9. Boxes clearly marked were put into wrong rooms or areas of home so the goods had to be moved again by my husband and me.The most inconvenient were the boxes marked upstairs and downstairs and vice versa. These were heavy boxes. 10. The movers removed the feet of my husband's desk and put them in the desk drawer at origin. They were not put in the parts box and, thus, they were not installed on the desk at the destination address. The desk feet will not be put on by us as the desk is too heavy for us to do ourselves. 11. The Lazyboy recliner was reassembled incorrectly by the movers and when my husband sat in it, it nearly broke the chair and almost caused injury to him. 12.The movers installed the spare bedroom mirror wrong. 13. The movers packed the garage so tightly that there were not any paths so that my husband could access his tools. 14. The movers refused to take the top off my husband's desk to fit it into its room. They said the top didn't come off. My husband said that it did come off as he had removed it to fit it in the original house. My husband had to remove the top, himself, with makeshift tools, as he couldn't access his tools in the garage because the movers blocked all access. 15. The refrigerator would not fit through the pantry door. The movers refused to remove the doors of the refrigerator. My husband had to remove the refrigerator doors himself and then he had to move the refrigerator into the pantry himself. Then he replaced the refrigerator doors. Again, this was done with makeshift tools due to the movers blocking access to my husband's tools in the garage. 16. There was veneer damage on two pieces of my office desk. 17. There was a dolly that was used to place items downstairs by one of the movers (Dennis) and each time he went downstairs he let the loaded dolly drop/bounce off of stairs. This is probably one of the reasons the wood floor cracked at the bottom of the stairs. See picture. 18. Movers put two gouges in the drywall at the bottom of the stairs due to careless handling of furniture and boxes. 19. In Utah, the glass doors were removed from entertainment center without any communication to my husband or me of this fact. There were12 glass doors. Bracken Jones didn?t advise us that glass doors and shelves had to be removed and packed by us. My husband had to come up with a way to pack them on load day. In Idaho, they didn?t install 2 of the doors (hid them out of our view). Plus they installed the other 10 incorrectly. Upside down, screws against glass, etc. My husband had to remove all of the 10 doors and install all 12 correctly. 20. Bracken Jones did not advise that us that we would have to disassemble the sleep number bed. Thus, we had to do that on load day also. 21. Bracken Jones did not advise that furniture anchored to wall would have to be unattached by the us. We had 8 pieces anchored to the walls and we could barely keep up with the loaders. We were not made aware of how much time this and all of the work that would have to be done on moving day. If we had been told that, we could have done that before moving day. 22. Bracken Jones told us that the crews at both the origin and destination get bonuses for jobs well done. He told us that a lot of the money we pay for the move goes to these bonuses. We strongly oppose this bonus structure and think that it would be fair for us to receive a refund because of the poor quality of work done by the moving company. My husband and I are extremely upset and dissatisfied with the Bailey moving experience. Becky Taylor told me that she would find out about this bonus communication and call me back. She didn't. I ended up calling her about it. She said that there was a misunderstanding about what Bracken told us, indicating that we misunderstood. We did not misunderstand. It was clear to us what Bracken told us. Both of us were present when he told us about the bonus system. I submitted a claim through the Allied site online on Jan. 22, 2014. There was no way for pictures to be submitted on the claim. To summarize, the movers for Bailey's Moving and Storage (particularly the movers at the destination site in Idaho) were careless in their handling of our property. They were also careless and disrespectful of our house and property. What it boils down to is that the movers didn't care. They didn't care to do a good job. Their work ethic was lacking, also. If I owned Bailey's, I would be ashamed and embarrassed of employing such people as they wouldn't represent my company in the manner that I would require. I said at the beginning of this email that we have had professional movers twice before. The first movers moved us from Kansas to Colorado. I would give them an "A" grade on their move. The second movers moved us from Nevada to Utah. We were disappointedwith their work, but I would give them a "C" grade on their work. In comparison to those other two movers, I would give Bailey's an "F" on their work. That is how disappointed and frustrated I am with what they did. The claim for this job took nearly 3 months to resolve. Even then, it was not resolved to our satisfaction. Allied Van Lines in Indiana conveniently "forgot" several items that I put on the claim forms. I would reply with follow up emails stating what they left out. It was one big hassle. They either don't train their people very well OR they do train them very well. My impression of Allied was negative and that Allied is out to "stonewall" the customer until they give up. Eventually, Allied paid $190.00 in damages to the furniture. They would not reimburse us for damages to our home. I had to address the damages to our home with Bailey's. They did a very effective job of stonewalling us also. I received a phone call from their claims dept. in March. It was revealing in the end. Bailey's said that they are not liable to damages to our home. First they said that we signed a document on move in day that there were not problems with the home. That is not true. I could not find such a document and Bailey's could not produce the document. Secondly, Bailey's said that they are not liable to damages to our home because the truck driver is not their employee. He is contracted by Allied. Also, the movers in Idaho are not employees of Bailey's. The movers were hired by the truck driver. However, the truck driver was acting as an agent for Bailey's because he collected money from us (the customer) for Bailey's. Bailey's said that there wasn't any documentation of damages to the home. I submitted digital pictures there were date and time stamped when they were taken. The cigarette butt pictures were dated the day after they moved us. However, Baileys does not accept these pictures as documentation. Evidently, the only documentation they accept is that submitted by the driver that was contracted by Allied. We submitted a very fair claim of $700.00 for home damage. They paid $350.00 in the end. This whole move was a nightmare. Bailey's is not interested in doing what is right for the customer and they called me a liar many times.

These guys were wonderful, professional, on time and very nice. They worked very hard and got done early. Everything was handled perfectly, not only that, but one of the gentlemen gave us a tip for saving gas in our truck that literally doubled our gas mileage. We were using premium gas and his tip was the cheaper octane gas actually burns better. Sure enough we refueled with the cheapest octane possible, and we doubled our mileage! THANKS SO MUCH for both the professional service and the wonderful tip. Hire these guys!

Everything was done perfectly. They were on time each time. They communicated with me regularly, at each step, to coordinate. They were totally professional in the ways that they marked and moved the furniture and boxes. Nothing was damaged. They were very considerate of my wishes and feelings at all times. I felt originally that the prices was a little high, but I ended up feeling that I had gotten a very good deal. I would pay this price again for this excellent service.
Description of Work: Bailey's Moving and Storage Company handled a complicated move for me, across two States. The van was too large to fit into the street where I lived in Oregon, and also too big to get into the condo complex where I moved in Utah. Therefore, they did a two-stage move at each end. In Oregon, they needed to shuttle the furniture and boxes from the house to smaller truck and then from the smaller truck to the larger moving van, where it was parked. In Utah, a week later, on the agreed upon date, they moved the furniture and boxes from the moving van to a U-Haul which the driver had rented for this purpose, and then from the U-Haul truck into the condo.

The pick up and delivery went well. The guys were very courteous and helpful. They were also on time. However, several items were received broken. I have made a dozen international moves all over the world and have never had any furniture broken. Two pieces of antique furniture were received broken plus legs to a dining table were missing. The table legs were found and delivered same day. I would not recommend this company.

They were fast and efficient and they came and did what they said they were going to do. They had to separate my belongings from the place that we were renting that had furnished rooms as well and they had to separate those things and make sure that they didn't move the wrong things and they did that. It was a little tricky but they did it. They would say, take a look at this and make sure that the scratch was here before we moved it. They were good. I would consider using them again in the future.

Description of Work: Bailey's is the Salt Lake franchise of Allied Van Lines. Household move from Riverton, Ut to the Dallas area. Truck showed up as scheduled but was half full on arrival. All of our stuff wouldn't fit on truck so our "overflow" was separately picked up the next day. It has sat in the mover's warehouse for 3 weeks and still is to be shipped to us. Company has told me twice that there was a truck scheduled to pick up this overload and twice it was not loaded. At present, their "best case projection" is that our items will be delivered 26 days after initial loading. When I contracted, I was told my property would be delivered within 8 days - - -now it's 26 days and counting. In spite of not fulfilling the contract, they charged my credit card for the full agreed amount when the first load was delivered.
