Paul was very professional and helpful. He took the time to answer questions and did not try to sell me on expensive repairs, although he did outline my options for me, some of which were expensive! Thanks Paul. I am going to call him back and have recommended him to my friends.

My wife and I have held service contracts with Scott Hale for years, and when their service personnel come out to work their service has always been excellent. The problem is actually getting through their front office staff to schedule appointments: on multiple occasions (including today, 4/8/14), I have called to schedule an appointment for service and instead of asking me what the problem is and when they can get someone out to our house, I immediately get asked "What is your email address" (so they can send advertisements) and "Can we update your service contract? (asking for money up front before they even perform any work). If you are willing to have unwanted spam sent to you, or you are willing to throw money at Scott Hale begging for them to come out at their convenience, by all means use their service. Me, I'm looking for customer friendly service. Never again.

We had a great experience! Wes and Josh were very good, they explained the issue, our options, and the worst case scenario very well before starting the project. I'm leery using a service provider I don't know based upon a deal they offer, though had read good reviews and were pleasantly surprised. We will definitely be calling Scott Hale for any future issues!

I called on Saturday, March 15, 2014 around 4:00-5:00 p.m. to ask if they had a technician to come help me fix the broken refrigerator water line that I had pulled accidentally trying to clean the back of the refrigerator. The customer service rep that answered the phone was very nice and professional and told me that she'd call me right back to check to see if the technician out on the field that day was available after the service call he was currently on. She called me back within 10 minutes of the initial call to let me know the technician would be available around 6:30 p.m. and if that was OK. Since I had shut off the water in my house to prevent further leakings and to get the problem solved right away I said yes. I was excited that after 3-5 calls to several other plumbing companies on Angie's List I was able to get someone that would help me on the same day. At around 6:00 p.m. the technician arrived and introduced himself. He asked me if it was OK to come in and inspect the problem and I said yes. He immediately put on protective booties and came into my house. I showed him the problem and educated me on the problem and how to fix it. We went to the basement so he could see where the line was coming from and he let me know he did have the necessary parts to fix the problem. He immediately started to work and he was finished in about 15-25 minutes. I asked a lot of questions and he answered all of them. We then sat down to do the paperwork, at which time he asked me how I had heard about them. I told him I had found them on Angie's List and thanked me for choosing them. He only charged me the minimum which was $39 and the $99 after-hour service fee. I was very happy with the technician's professionalism and knowledge that after we were done with the paperwork I asked him about replacing my toilets. I then scheduled an appointment for Wednesday, March 19th to come replace one toilet in my home. Overall I was very happy with the level of customer service, service provided and education. I also want to add that he had a booklet from which he showed me how much the service and parts would cost for both the water line going to the refrigerator and the new toilet.

We bought the deal for the $29 furnace inspection on thursday. They came out monday. Our window was from 12-3 and they arrived at 12:00. We were experiencing problems with our furnace regulating temperature consistently and the electronic thermostat was malfunctioning. During the cleaning they realized that there were multiple fractures in the system and that carbon monoxide was escaping through our vents. They explained how the manufacturer of our furnace had been out of business for 10+ years and the part was going to be really hard to find. We opted for a new furnace. The tech was great and selected 3 high quality furnace options, explained the differences, and showed us how each one would benefit us. We selected a 2013 lennox and they were able to install it the same day. They had techs there at 2 and they left at 5:00. My wife and I were very happy with the service and how punctual the crew was. The furnace has made a huge difference. The house is regulating the temperature much better, it runs less frequently and it is whisper quiet. The only thing that we would recommend is that their drivers explain all the financing options. We were only told about the 12 month and 0% interest plan but after talking to GE (they run their financing) we opted to switch to a 5.5% fixed plan. However, Scott Hale was really great at making it easy to switch the financing. We will definitely be using them again.

We had Scott Hale Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning out at our house to do a checkup on our furnace. During that appointment I scheduled them to come back to clean our air ducts. Later that week I called and canceled the appointment. Something happened and the appointment was never canceled. When Scott Hale Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning arrived at my house I let them know that we had canceled the appointment the week before. The tech was very nice and apologized. However, our credit card was charged later that day. This made me very upset for being charged for services that never happened.Scott Hale Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning was very quick on reversing those charges and even sent an apology letter in the mail. Great customer service.

The visit by the Scott Hale employee was exceedingly disappointing. The technician who arrived was personable, but that's about the only positive. He first checked our main furnace (a bit surprising since the purpose of the visit was the air conditioning unit) and announced that it was leaking natural gas, dangerous, and needed immediate attention. He "condemned" the furnace (never stating on what authority), and turned it off. He next checked out the air conditioner and indicated that it needed extensive repairs. He then worked up estimates for "repairing" both appliances (approximately $18,000) or replacing them (something in excess of $20,000). We were flabbergasted, but declined making any commitments at that point. We immediately contacted Questar, the natural gas provider, and their technician arrived within about 4 hours. Using more sophisticated equipment, he tested both our furnaces and declared them working safely and reliably with no evidence of escaping dangerous gases. About a week later a technician from another HVAC company we had regularly dealt with in the past came and repaired the electrical system in the air conditioning unit for a cost of about $200. It's now approximately 8 months later, and we have had no problems with either the "condemned" furnace or the air conditioning unit. Both work fine. Needless to say, we were not happy with Scott Hale Plumbing, Heating, and Air Conditioning and will neither use them nor recommend them to others in the future. Also, the experience turned us off completely regarding future use of "special deals" on Angie's List.

The technician showed up on time and every one that I spoke to was friendly. However, the technician only poked around for about 20 minutes (which I thought was interesting considering the lengthy list of items they list as a part of the furnace tune up). The technician then came to talk with me about a crack in our heat exchange, that he confirmed was leaking carbon monoxide at a dangerous level. He then explained that because our furnace was so old the part couldn't be replaced, therefore we would need to install a new furnace to solve the issue. He priced out three rather pricey options for us (4500 - 7500). He was very pushy to get me to decide on the spot and offered an additional discount if i chose to replace it the same day. I was uncomfortable with the assessment and chose to have a second opinion evaluation done. The second company who has done quality work for my family members in the past did not detect any carbon monoxide readings, and when he had finished evaluating our furnace two hours later he said there was no crack in our heat exchange and even if there was our furnace was manufactured in 2009 and a replacement part was readily available. My husband and I felt very lucky that we didn't go with Scott Hale. Our furnace is in perfect working condition and their technician was going to have us replace it all together. I spoke with a customer service rep with the company about our experience who stated their technician was very skilled but they would send us a gift card for a restaurant for our experience. **Update: A while after this happened a representative from the company contacted me and apologized profusely for our experience and sent us a check for the amount of the groupon that we had purchased. In addition to put a free service credit on our account with them to use if we wish.

The unbelievable thing about the service call is that THEY rescheduled on it 4 TIMES. The scheduler who kept calling us to reschedule was extremely polite and apologetic about having to reschedule due to a "rash of emergency plumbing calls". On the last reschedule she said to tell the serviceman to know off another $20 when he came. When the time came he acted if he vaguely heard someone mention that to him so he had to make a couple of phone calls on how to handle it. In the end he just reached into his wallet and sheepishly handed me a $20 bill - I felt kind of bad taking it but if that's the way his boss told him to handle it that's fine with me. I guess they had never had this situation occur before??? Hmmnnn I'm somewhat dubious about that being the case. To his credit, the guy who came out was really down to earth and did a great job answering my questions and informing me about water heater-related stuff I needed to know. He was older and was probably getting close to retire, it least that's the feeling I got just from listening to him. If it weren't for the multiple reschedules I would have given them a "B" overall.
Description of Work: Flushed our water heater, ran test for soundness (checked valves and temperature, etc.) saying it still probably had 2-3 more years on it. He didn't try to push me into a new one saying you might as well wait.....so I guess it was nice to have a no pressure serviceman, but I wasn't quite sure if he was serious or just didn't feel like having to put in a new one because our water heater was 14 years old when he serviced it. However it IS still working 6 months later so we'll just keep it until it implodes on itself!

When I scheduled my appointment I was told that a 19 point inspection would be done which would include changing or leaving a filter if mine was clean; checking gas pressure; doing a CO (carbon monoxide) reading; checking blower motor; checking for gas leaks; vacuuming out unit; and several other things. Filter--I was told mine was clean and didn't need changing and he didn't have one that was my size to leave anyway. Checking gas pressure - said he could tell by looking at flame that gas pressure was okay. CO testing - not done. Blower motor -- told that blower is starting to go out and that capacitor was bad. Gas leak check - not done Vacuuming out unit - told it was amazingly clean for a 20 year old unit and then didn't vacuum. Heat exchanger -- told that there was a crack and popped seams after he looked at with a remote camera. (Did not do a direct visual inspection) His conclusion was that the furnace needed replacement and said that a new furnace would save us lots since ours was only a 70% efficiency furnace. I called another heating/air conditioning company (Bridgerland) for a second opinion (cost $60). They said that the secondary heat exchanger on our furnace made it a 90% efficiency furnace. They also said that if we had a cracked heat exchanger that the furnace should have been shut down to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. The tech checked the furnace with a remote camera and found no cracks or popped seams. The tech then took the furnace apart enough so that he could look at the heat exchanger directly just to make sure he wasn't mistaken. No cracks or no popped seam. To make doubly sure that nothing was wrong, the tech put the furnace back together and then tested for CO. After running the furnace for quite a while, no CO was detected. I'm disappointed with the Scott Hale tech and am glad I got a second opinion. It is an old furnace and apparently viewing the heat exchanger with a remote camera can result in errors, but the Scott Hale tech should have been as thorough as the comapny I called for a second opinion before telling me we needed a new furnace. The Scott Hale tech was personable and punctual.

These guys get a C bc they did my AC unit and they did a decent job on it, but I had to use them mostly bc my tenants were stuck with 100 degree heat bc the AC went out and they were able to get to it quickly. I give them a D for giving me estimates on other work since. They wanted to charge me $1200 for simply replacing a sump pump. Now according to their "book" that's the cost but that's absurd. And as soon as I called back they wanted to wheel and deal to lower the price. No thanks.

The technician arrived promptly at the scheduled time and performed the tune-up without us at the home. We received a phone call with a summary of what he did, and what he suggested. After performing a multi-point inspection, the technician noticed the burners turning on and off unexpectedly. He suggested a new flame sensor. After some discussion, we agreed that the tech should remove and sand the flame sensor and put it back in the unit. If this did not work, then he would charge us the full amount for replacing the sensor. A few hours later, he called back indicating that after sanding and replacing the flame sensor, the furnace fired up, and he noticed a spark on the furnace circuit board, then the furnace stopped working. The tech suggested that he has seen this happen in the past where there was a power surge, leading to circuit board burnout. A day later, we met, and the tech walked me through what he did, and what happened on his service visit. He then discussed options, including board replacement, and total furnace replacements. After telling the tech that I was going to get several quotes, he dropped the prices for the replacement furnaces. Later that day, another furnace company technician took a look for a second opinion, noticed a dust covered fuse was blown, replaced the fuse, and the unit started operating as expected. Although I am not an HVAC specialist, my concern is that a simple blown fuse turned into a suggestion of a costly board replacement, or even a costlier whole furnace replacement. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt when the original technician reached out to me by phone to discuss which replacement option I would select. I was frank and told him that another company technician looked at the board, replaced the fuse, and everything was fine. He offered no reasons, no conciliation, and promptly hung up. Based on this experience, I do not trust this company, and would not do business with them again.
