SCR Specialized Chimney Repair

David is about as professional as anyone I've hired. He kept me informed on progress, he came when he said he would and he was meticuluous about keeping the site clean. The chimney looks like it is original to the house. I recommend without any reservation SCR to anyone needing chimney work.

Dave was wonderful in all aspects concerning the repair of our chimney, that was damaged from the earthquake in March 2020. We had several estimates from other companies that seemed more expensive, let alone reasonable.. When we received the quote from Dave we were quite surprised. His estimate was so much less than other company's. We accepted his quote on the spot with out even having to think about it.. The work performed was complete in a timely and professional manner. We were so please, with how dependable Dave was in his follow through on every thing he said would be done. Including when he said the job would be completed.. We believe, it would be in any ones best interest to contact his company if ever needing any chimney repair.

The chimney had been falling apart for years, and our insurance was hopping mad. Dave was willing to drive out to Ogden and got the job done super quick. Great communication, great price transparency, very professional, and fantastic work. Would hire again.

Dave was prompt in getting me an estimate and followed through to complete the work on the day he had scheduled. The work looks good and time will tell how it stands up. The less professional parts of his work include working in the front yard which left a patch of dead grass and spread dust and grit all over plants, car and into the bedroom through an open window. I did not receive an invoice until I asked and after he had cashed my check. Dave does not accept credit cards.

David arrived on time on Wednesday morning to give me an estimate of the cost of repair. He took a look at the damage and inspected a second chimney which had not been covered and we agreed on a price. He started work that day and removed several rows of loose brick from the top of the damaged chimney (the chimney had been overly tall) and fixed the flu pipe which had been dislodged when the old cap was knocked off. He ordered two new caps and returned on Friday morning to install them. He installed water collars around the flue pipes to prevent any water leakage, and installed a missing pipe cap on one flue. I was extremely pleased with his work!! David is very professional, punctual, and communicates very well. I will definitely hire him again if the need arises.

David came and looked at both chimneys and recommended replacing the cover that had nearly come off. He mentioned it might be one of the worst he had ever seen. Within a few days, he was back and did the fix. He shared pictures to show what he did, came when he said, and even looked at the dampers on the fireplaces that needed attention. High quality and professional.

Strong winds dislodged the chimney cap on the Sunday . I called Dave on Monday afternoon and we set an appointment for him to come and inspect the chimney on Tuesday morning. The existing cap was ill fitting and not securely fastened to the chimney. Dave secured the existing cap and returned on the Friday to replace with a new cap. Dave was friendly and very professional. He was responsive to our concerns and punctual for the appointments. I will definitely recommend Dave to anyone needing chimney repairs.

It went really well. It took Dave about a week to get the new parts manufactured. He came out and installed one morning last week. We were out for the day and he sent pictures of the repair/installation so we could see what was there to start with and how the final chimney cover looked. It is really nice looking and matches the roof.

Came to install two chimney caps on our chimney. Upon climbing up to the top, realized the top of the chimney was uncovered and needed to be covered/sealed. Gave options for caps and also covers, including custom and standard. We hadn't expected the need for a cap and so the price increased with that addition, but Dave was exceptionally professional, sent photos along the way of what needed to be done and the completed work. He gave recommendations for quality and aesthetics and we got the work done in a matter of days even with the set-back. We would definitely recommend him and use his services again.

David was quick to bid, quick to come back and recheck all measurements, and quick to build the caps. We couldn't be happier with his work.

Dave is an excellent communicator, personable, kind, honest, and did excellent work. Upon reading multiple positive reviews about SCR, I gave him a call and he came right over to give us a quote on repairing our fireplace and chimney. He got the necessary supplies ordered and once they were received, he called to set up a time to do the job. He takes pride in doing all of his own work rather than having a team to dispatch on jobs. This way he knows the job gets done right. He took his time and seemed to do very careful, quality work. He is a self proclaimed dog lover and didn't mind our 3 dogs roaming around and especially the wiener dog that wanted to lay in his work area. He gave out plenty of petting as well as a great fireplace repair. Now we have a functioning fireplace and a damper, crown and caps to keep out the cold air, water, animals, and debris. We were extremely satisfied with the work Dave did and would not hesitate to call him again and to recommend him to our friends and family. Thanks Dave!

After that really bad rainstorm, I noticed rain dripping down my mantle. After reading the reviews for David Wheeler, I called and set up an appointment. He came right away. He was fantastic to work with and honest about what needed to be done. He removed the broken mortar and re-mortared the entire chimney. He tarred around the flashing and put on a wire cap to keep out the rain and animals. I plan on having him back to fix the mortar in my brick home that has been done poorly in the past.

We moved into a house with two chimneys in bad need of repair. Dave did nice work with the repairs and capping, then came back a week later to repaint them to match. He as very courteous and professional and did a good job.

Dave did a great job matching the existing mortar color. All in all i am happy with the work and it saved me climbing 25 feet in the air and a ladder.

I got two quotes, and SCR was the more expensive of the two. However, Dave with SCR's quote was much more thorough and professional. I figured that thoroughness was probably indicative of the work they do, so it was a tough decision because of the price difference. You always run the risk of going with the cheaper option just to get nickel and dimed later. The decision became much easier when Dave followed-up (something the other company didn't do), pointed out they warranty their work (not sure if the other company does, as they didn't mention it), and then said they'd beat the other quote by $50. SCR was out within a few days and had most of it done within two business days. Dave came back on a later day to install the custom chimney caps, and I got to sit down and talk to him. Previous to this I had only talked to him over phone or text - he left the quote at my door. Dave is very friendly and knowledgable, and I'd trust him with any of the brick work in my old brick home. He's also got a very sweet black lab that seems to enjoy hanging out in the truck while he works. Anyway, the work looks great and everything was cleaned up afterward. I highly recommend SCR.

When we met to talk about the damage and my idea he came up with a another idea that was cheaper for me because he didn't believe I needed to waste money on the other option. I like his honesty about going for a cheaper option, some people dont offer a cheaper option if you dont suggest it. We went with his recommendation. I would recommend him to others and reuse him.

Dave came over to inspect and quote on repairs to a top to bottom settlement crack in a cement block garage. He advised that the repairs would be a simple and short job, and gave a written quote on the spot. I did not proceed to engage his services as I felt the cost was high for the time and materials involved, however he was professional and efficient in his interactions.

I loved this guy. If you need to have our chimney repaired please call David. I have been trying to have this chimney fixed since May! The first guy I called told me it would cost 4000.00. Trusting person that I told him to fix it. He called a few times to set up appointments to do the work and has yet to show up. Second guy I called told me it would be 850.00 to repair chimney. Yeah, much cheaper than first estimate. Set up an appointment to have the work done. The guy kept calling with excuses (to hot, to windy, going out of town, and many more). Also still waiting for him to show up! Finally, it is August. I joined Angie's List and found SCR. Perfect! David came out to give me an estimate same day I called, set up a day two days later to have the repair completed. David came and on time! Did the work for a fraction of the original cost. They responded very quickly and their quote was average. They have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. I didn't hire them because I got a lower quote from a well-reviewed competitor. If you do hire SCR to replace a chimney crown, be aware that the new crown won't have an overhang and there won't be an expansion joint between the concrete and the flue. The fellow I spoke to said that the rain just runs under the overhang onto the brick anyway. And that he's never seen that the lack of an expansion joint caused any problems. They do slope the top surface of the crown down, which many others do not. So that is good.

First of all, his estimate was the lowest of three I obtained considering his 10% discount for Angie's customers. He did the work himself over two days. One morning to take down the old cap and the next morning to lay the cement for the new one. He added high quality cowls and the whole job looks fabulous. Professionalism and quality of work was first-rate. He determined our old terracotta pots needed replacement during the process so he replaced them. He also reinstalled some flashing that had fallen off the chimney. He charged us nothing for either of those. Clean-up was spotless. A great value overall. High recommendation.

I called Dave and several others for an estimate on repairing the top of our chimney. There were several rows of bricks that had started to break off and alot of the mortar was coming off also. After coming out and looking at it, he determined that with the age of the house, type of brick that was used it would be somewhere in the $3000 to $5000. That would be if he could even find the original brick. He suggested a metal sleeve to be custom formed to slide over the bad rows to prevent further damage. He brought a color sheet so my wife could determine which color would look the best. We had several weeks of on and off again weather so it took some time to get it scheduled. He came out and measured everything and sent those off to his sheet metal guy. When it was finished he came out and put sealant on all of the decaying brick and installed the sleeve, sealed the top and sides so no water will get in between. Looks absolutely fantastic and we have had all the neighbors comment that it looks much better!! We are very happy with the look and especially with Dave!!! Highly recommended !!! David repaired a deteriorating chimney for us. He came up with a good plan for our situation, offered a fair bid, showed up on time, and did a great job.

David Wheeler showed up at the appointment on time and preformed a free bid. A time was scheduled to perform work the following week. Mr Wheeler arrived on time and finished the job in one day. he was respectful of my home, and cleaned up after the job was done.

Dave, the owner of the company, came out and gave us a bid within a day of our calling. He then worked us into his schedule, which was about four days later. He was very professional. I appreciated that he cleaned up after himself so well!
