It couldn't have been worse. They used inferior products, cut the wood stairs too short and crooked and then filled the gaps with bathroom caulking (I am not kidding), then used an unapproved water based inexpensive finish for the existing floors. When I realized they had not used Glitsa as was agreed in the contract, they agreed to put a coat of Glitsa over the other finish, but the Glitsa then bubbled up like a bad sunburn. They scraped it off, didn't sand anything, and put ANOTHER coat of Glitsa over the top of the bubbled up mess, making it worse. They had no idea why it bubbled up and thought the job was satisfactory (which it absolutely was not). The stain on the new wood didn't even come close to matching the existing wood stain. Basically, this company (Masterpiece) is out of business and has no employees. Their license is in place, but their corporation has expired. They had performed high quality work for us 4 different times, and we recommended them to many friends who also had good experiences with Masterpiece. But Mark Jenkins (owner of Masterpiece) subcontracted out our job out to his cousin who was an inexperienced and incompetent wood floor company (Wood Floors Inc. and Jay Jenkins). After 6 or 8 weeks, we finally had to fire them and hire another wood floor contractor. They have not returned phone calls or letters, and they did not refund the $2300 deposit we made for the job. The new contractor had to sand our floors down to bare wood in order to get rid of the bubbled finish, restain and completely refinish all of the floors. The stairs had to be taken out once again and replaced. So the job became huge, required that we move out of our home for 4 more days during application of the Glitsa, and cost considerably more than it would have if Masterpiece had performed satisfactorily on our contract. The subcontractor (Wood Floors Inc. and Jay Jenkins) also tore off all of our woodwork when it was agreed that they would undercut it and leave it in place. They then broke the pieces and put holes in our walls. They also slopped stain on the walls and on the legs of our cabinets. Now we also have to hire someone else to replace our woodwork and paint the walls. It was a nightmare, and I wanted to make sure others didn't have to go through what we experienced.

Install new wood flooring of downstairs area. After on-site appraisal, bid $3,800. Begin work in three weeks. 1) Work began three weeks late, while we lived without down-stairs furniture. 2) "Dust-free" was a hollow promise--dust everywhere. 3) Mid-work: "Secretary made a mistake; If you don't pay the difference ($1,200) SHE WILL BE FIRED!" 4) We paid the difference. 5) Several times I detected "cut corners". Individual workmen were willing to replace, competently. **6) Seven months later, after a seasonal change in weather, "cupping" of individual boards began. An independent contractor diagnosed: "no moisture barrier was installed. Rip it all up or live with it."
