Description of Work: Refinished granite counter and backsplash. Took composite sink out, cleaned it and reset it under the granite counter. They also strengthened the structural integrity under the countertop in corners and around the sink because the original installer had only done the BARE minimum on the structure holding the counter and sink in place.

We had an area in our shower that was coming loose. This was causing water to drip down into our laundry room each time the shower was used. We had previously called another company who wasn't interested in fixing such a small job. It was a pleasure to deal with Solid Surface Creations! Our shower is now fixed and I have a feeling we'll be using this company when we do remodel our bathroom.

Dean is a magician when it comes to restoring the finish and appearance of our sandstone countertop. We found him two years ago via Angie's List and he rescued the countertop which we're sure had not been professionally or properly cleaned by the home's original owners. He educated us then about what to do and not to do which helped this return "tune up" to turn out as good, if not better, than his first service visit. Dean also restored the finish and appearance of our master bathroom's marble vanity which we recognized could look better than it did. It now has a showroom appearance in our opinion thanks to Dean's expertise. We shall certainly employ Dean for any future work of this nature.

Dean was prompt and very professional. He smoothed the chips and beveled the edges of the counter top and island in my kitchen. The chips were very deep in places and there were many cracks. These defects were fixed then the surfaces that were ground down were polished and all the surfaces were cleaned and sealed. Before Dean started the work, he sealed off all the cupboards and kitchen area. When he was through, there was surprisingly little dust including the inside of the cupboards. He left the area clean, left me something to keep the granite in good shape, and stuck to his original bid. Was a great pleasure to have him working in our home.

Dean answered my first phone call and asked me to send a photo of the chip. He called me back once I sent the photo and provided a quote to repair. He was able to come the next day to perform the repair which took about 4 hours. The quality is great. You would have to know there was a repair done to be able to see it. Dean was extremely clean, timely and performed a top quality repair. We will be using him to reseal all our granite countertops in the kitchen, master bath and main bath.

I really had a very positive experience to them, the person who came out was very knowledgeable and very professional. He gave me a recommendation of something that I can use to seal my slate floor and I ended up ordering that online and put it on, it is absolutely gorgeous! We did have a hard time looking up to begin with because he was a busy man, but we when he did come into my house, he was very friendly and very helpful. He both give me an estimate for granite and solid surface and I decided to use granite which is really nice instead of solid surface.

Requested a quote for refinishing the countertops, and the cost of replacing the existing tiny bar sink and faucet in the laundry room. Dean Patelli came out within three days of our initial conversation to measure, and emailed a quote of $728 for the counter resurface (65 sq ft), and $728 for the replacement sink and faucet. We decided to go ahead with the sink/faucet replacement rather than a new utility sink in the basement, which was quoted about $800 (new piping and water connection plus sink and faucet installation) by another vendor. So a new sink in the basement was about the same as Dean's replacement quote for the laundry room. He estimated it would take him 5-7 hours to complete the job. We scheduled the work for two weeks later, and I paid a 50% deposit ($728) based on his quote. It took him two days to resurface the countertops, but the sink had not been ordered in time to arrive for delivery that week. I did have to pay another company to come out and 'reconnect' the gas line to the cooktop on our kitchen island. The countertops were mostly OK, but I did find swirl marks that Dean re-sanded when he returned the following week to install the sink. He cut out the hole for the new, larger sink and found that the new sink was warped, so it wouldn't work. He called the company for a replacement, and rescheduled installation for the following week. OK, now we're into the third week...and due to his confusion about a FedEx delivery, he didn't come to install the sink until the day after the re-rescheduled installation. This time it all went in smoothly, except for a missing gasket for the faucet (which leaked without it), and Dean did go to a supply house to buy one. When he finished the job, he presented me with a new invoice that included an additional charge ($150) for connecting the sink and faucet, which I was not expecting and he didn't tell me about. The additional cost was now more than a new basement utility sink :(. Just beware of quote/estimate for costs and timely completion. The additional time it took to complete the job (three weeks rather than one day) plus additional, unanticipated costs ($50 for plumber and $150 for faucet and sink connection) soured the experience for me. The counters do look nice and the sink is a big improvement over the old one.

Response from Solid Surface Creations-DCI
A bid was given to (deleted member name) on 6/17/2013 for the re-sanding of her kitchen and laundry room solid surface counter tops, along with costs to replace the laundry room sink and faucet and to re-cut the existing hole to accommodate the new sink. The costs to sand 65 sq. feet of counter top was bid at $780.00, with costs for the sink cut out at $125.00. The remainder of the costs were for the new sink and faucet. Solid Surface Creations’ company policy is to collect half of the total job costs up front and then bill the remainder at completion of the job. At this time the customer was advised that we would need to remove the cook top in order to perform the work on the island, and that we could disconnect and remove the cook top from the island with their permission, however we could not reconnect the gas line, and the gas company would have to be contacted. The bid was agreed to and signed by the customer on 6/19/2013. The faucet was ordered from a local distributor. The original order inquiry was placed on 6/17/2013 where we were informed that it would take anywhere between 7 to 10 business days to receive the faucet. It was ordered on 6/19/2013 and received 4 business days later. The sink was ordered through the manufacturer out of Chicago on 6/20/2013. It was received it on 6/28/2013, 6 business days from the time the order was placed. On July 2nd, the original package and packing material were removed from the sink. There was also an inner protective packing sleeve on the left and right sides of sink which was removed at the job site revealing that the sink was warped and bowed. We advised the customer we should not accept this sink and reorder another one. This development changed the original time line. The new sink was reordered on July 2nd and received on Saturday, July 6th, 2013. The sink fit was rescheduled for July 9, 2013 along with removal of a swirl on the island that the customer had noted. After fitting the sink, we asked the customer if they had their own plumber to connect the new sink and faucet or did they want us to install these items. They requested that Solid Surface Creations hook up the sink and faucet. The job was completed and the invoice adjusted to reflect the labor charge for connection of sink and faucet. Please note that the customer was billed for fixtures and installation along with preparation for new sink cut out in the amount of $827.14. Customer noted they received another bid from a different vendor for about $800.00. Solid Surface Creations strives to provide excellent customer service working with each client’s schedule. There are unforeseen events that we have no control over. We would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any miscommunications that may have occurred and thank our customer for the helpful feedback they provided. We will take steps in the future to communicate items not covered at the time the bid is issued. In this instance, our bid should have read “labor and installation of new fixtures not included.” Thank you for taking the time to help us improve our services.

It is hard to find enough adjectives to describe what was the most marvelous experience we've had in home remolding/updating in the thirty five years we've owned our house!! We have been wanting to update our existing living room wood burning fire place to natural gas and replace a tiled hearth and surround for several years. We had contacted three granite installers in that time, two of which actually came to the house and took measurements but all three never would follow-up with us on commiting to do the job. There were some difficult challenges to do the job right and my guess is that it was too much for them. We figured if we were going to have these kind of problems just getting someone to take our money and give us a bid, what were we in for when it actually came time to to the job. We put it off for many months and during that time we became subscribers to Angie's List for some other home repairs and were more than please with those results. We looked on Angie's List and found Solid Surface Creations at the top of the list and gave them a call. Dean, the owner returned my call within an hour and I described the project we wanted done. He told me to take a picture if the existing fireplace on my phone and send it to him so he could visualize what we wanted done. He called me back in another hour and we set a time for him to come and look at the actual room. He told us the best place to go and look for the granite and to pick our what we liked and have it put on hold. Dean lives in Davis county and we live on the east bench in south Sandy so there is a bit of distance for him to travel. He set a date and time (within two days of contacting him) and showed up on time to assess the project. He seemed to really know what he was talking about and set our minds at ease that we might actually be able to get the job done...on time. We needed to have it finished within three weeks for a large family reunion we were having. The next day he emailed us a bid, itemizing all the things that he would be doing. It involved removing a large oak mantle, removing the existing tile and installing the granite surfaces. He assured us he would be able to have it done even a week earlier than what we had requested. He told us he had a friend, Charlie with Bill's Comfort Systems who would be able to help us get a good deal on the gas fireplace but also encouraged us to go other places to look at selections and get other bids on the actual fireplace. We were originally going to just have a gas log installed. We went a number of places and the best bid for the gas log installed was about $1100. Dean came out and removed the mantle and surround and, as part of his bid, sent it to a master craftsment to have it altered to fit the new hearth. Charlie came with Dean the next day when he came to remove the tile and said he could get us a complete new firebox and gas log (top brand name) installed for $950.00. (Already saved $100). He had one in his truck and they brought it in and had it installed the next day. Dean made all of his templates and the cement and mortar preparation work and within the week returned with the most beautiful piece of granite work that we have ever seen and installed it. His work is absolutely impecable! The next day he came back with the oak mantle that had been meticulously altered to fit the new hearth and had it installed. The result is far more that what our expectatons had been. We have never had such a marvelous experience with sales/service in our forty years of marriage. How do you rate perfection?!! He is not a craftsman but an artist. Angie's List 'Knocks one out of the park' again. Thanks for this great rating service. Sorry this is so long - feel free to condense as you need.

I was happy with their work and how quickly they took care of our needs in relation to our move in date. Dean said he would bring us back some maintenance / cleaner product. He never did. I sent him a text as a reminder and it went unanswered. I thought for the time spent it was a little pricey but I was happy with his work and his passion for his profession.
Description of Work: Dean was punctual and provided the service we needed to remove our old under counter sink and replace with a new surface mount sink. He had a difficult space to work with and did a great job of removing the old sink and installing the new sink without damaging my existing granite counter tops and cabinets. We also hired him to clean and resurface our entire kitchen counter to which he did a great job. He educated us on how to care for our granite counters and what not to use to prevent future damage.

I called Dean on Thursday. He said that he could do the job either the very next day or Saturday, depending on how another job he was working on went. He ended up coming to my house at 6 pm on a Saturday evening! Amazing! The work he did was done quickly and efficiently. He was very friendly and efficient. The cost was reasonable. In fact, he repaired both the sink and the counter in the kitchen for only $25 more than I had previously gotten a quote for repairing just the kitchen counter. I would use him again with no hesitation. HE WAS GREAT!!!

Dean Patelli was exceptional in his trade skills and knowledge of stone products. We had no idea what the prior home owners and builders of our house had done to the sandstone counter top, but it had stains and other markings on it that did not seem original despite a glossy surface. It took us awhile to find a resource who could advise us on the care of such a product and more importantly help with what we felt was a needed "tune-up". We were fortunate to have found Dean of Solid Surface Creations through Angie's List as other vendors in this listing category seemed to specialize just on installation jobs. Dean took an unevenly and discolored piece of stone and returned it to a piece of natural art with even coloring and resplendent marbling that had been hidden by 10+ years of dirt and misunderstood cleaning attempts. From his attention to detail on the stone surface itself, the care in protecting other kitchen surfaces and plentiful advice on how to properly care for the counter top it was clear to us that Dean really loved his work and was a tradesman in the guild sense. We were happy that Dean returned our calls promptly, was likewise courteous in keeping us informed of his arrival time and worked with our schedules to the best of our mutual compatibility. We would recommend Solid Surface Creations to others without hesitation and recall them for other such jobs in our house.

Dean was very professional and punctual. He responded to my call immediately and gave me a bid over the phone because of the short notice I gave him. He arrived on time with his son Justin. He is quite a craftsman--the new edges are beautifully polished. He took precautions to prevent dust from getting on my furniture and rugs and his cleanup was great.. He consulted with the person who was installing the range to make sure he did everything correctly.I highly recommend Dean and would definitely use him again!

We were installing a Wolf rangetop in our kitchen. The granite countertop had been installed by a previous owner so we needed to have it cut on site to accomodate the new rangetop. Because of the odd shape of the piece, a large portion needed to be cut out and then the countertop had to be refabricated around the rangetop. Dean was prompt and friendly. He came and made the onsite cut and took the piece back to his shop where he cut and shaped pieces to fit around the new rangetop.
