Intermountain West Contractors was established in the fall of 1997, with the VISION to be the leader in the roofing and window business within our marketplace. The goals and values we have committed to reach this goal are based on the core values of integrity, innovation and quality. Integrity: A firm foundation is the key to any lasting relationship whether it is a friendship, marriage or business agreement. At Intermountain West we believe this firm foundation is built on trust, communication and high moral ethics. Quality: Offering superior products along with certified installers equal a final product that fits the wants and needs of our clients. Innovation: Innovation doesn't stop with our products, at Intermountain West we continue innovation within our company by listening to our clients and staff.
The CEO himself came to the house and talked us through the contract step by step. His crew arrived when he said they would, the weather did cause the job to take a few hours longer than projected but it was not an issue, both the supervisor and the CEO checked in to make sure there were no problems as the job progressed. All of the intermountain west contractors staff were easy to deal with and communicated well with both me and my wife. I would recommend this company for your roofing job and I will use them again in the future for other projects, since i won't need a roof for another forty years. Thanks for a great looking roof Gerald Sommer and Intermountain West Contractors. Chuck Cruz.

We contracted IWC to put architectural shingles over existing ones. The workers showed up very promptly on the first day of work and worked very diligently throughout the day. They were very polite, asking if it was alright if they came the next day earlier, as the weather heats up. The second day, they again arrived promptly and worked all day. They left our yard neat and cleaned of all debris.

We had a great experience with IWC! Gerald sat down with me and went over all the details. This was very helpful for a new homeowner like me. He listened to our requests and went above and beyond to make things happen. The roofers were very friendly and willing to fulfill special requests. Our roof looks great and we will definitely turn to IWC for future home needs!

I was pleased with the efficiency of which the job was handled. All tasks were performed as promised and on time. The quality of the work was stellar. I was most impressed with Gerald the owner taking all calls and questions regarding the job. The price was so competetive that I could not think to use another roofer.

Gerald came to our home and discussed installing a new roof on our house with us. During the discussion I mentioned that I really had only one concern and that was how they would handle the components of a couple of pergolas that tie into our roof. He said they would install flashing around each beam. I have never hired out the installation of a new roof before and have always done it myself when I have needed a roof in the past. After a couple of weeks, and some discussion with my wife, we decided to give Gerald the nod and have him come do our roof. The original start date was pushed out due to inclement weather and delays that caused. We received word that they would show up on a specific day at a specific time. The crew that came to remove the old roof did show up on the day they said they would but were a couple of hours late. There was no communication with us regarding the delay. They also just showed up and went to work without so much as a knock on the door which I found a little odd. During the day I told one of the crew that I wanted them to remove a small dish antennae I had on the roof but that I did not want it thrown away or damaged. Yesterday I looked at the antennae and discovered that they simply pried the thing off the roof without removing the screws and the mounting plate was damaged in the process. Not a big deal since I am not sure I will reuse the antennae but it was a surprise to see it was treated that way. The removal of the old roof was pretty much done on the first day and the crew left, again without so much as a knock on the door or communication of any kind. Gerald did contact me at the end of the first day to let me know that there would be even more guys at our home the following day to begin installing the new roof. The next morning there were even more guys there but once again they simply pulled up, got out and went to work without so much as a knock on the door. Both the crew that removed the old roof and the crew that installed the new roof were very efficient and did a good job. At the end of the second day (Saturday) I was not at home when they finished but one of my sons-in-law was and they did talk to him before leaving. They said that they had run a bit short on material (no details of what they were short of or what was left to do were provided) and that they would be back on Monday. When my son-in-law told me that they said they would be back on Monday I was skeptical since Monday was Memorial Day. I really did not expect to see anyone from Intermountain West Contractors on Memorial Day and I didn't. That was no issue for me since I didn't expect it anyway. I looked the roof over from the ground and saw a section of ridge that did not have cap strips and concluded that they ran out of ridge caps. On Tuesday morning a truck pulled up, a guy got out and went up on the roof. Again, without so much as a knock on the door. He got off the roof, got in his truck and left. Again without so much as a knock on the door. I thought to myself, "There's a pattern here." I went outside to look at what had been done and sure enough the section of ridge that previously had no caps on it before did now. Then I looked around the yard and saw a bundle of shingles in the driveway and a board with nails in it and some drip edge laying on the sidewalk leading into the back yard. Then I got my ladder out and climbed up to the roof to take a closer look. I have to tell you I was impressed with the quality of the roofing job. Ice and water shield nice and straight along the eves, starter strip nice and straight also, new drip edge looked great. Then I looked in the rain gutters.....not cleaned out as Gerald had said they would be. In fact it was clear that no one had even touched the stuff in the rain gutters. Then I looked at what they did around the end of the beams of the pergolas where they tied into the roof. No flashing, just caulk and a messy, ugly job they did with the caulk. I got off the ladder and called Gerald. I asked if his guys were finished with my job. He said they were. I suggested he come by to look at the job site. I mentioned that there was stuff left behind, a board with nails in it, a bundle of shingles, no flashing, a lousy caulk job and far too many nails laying in the grass in my front yard. Unfortunately Gerald was out of town and was unable to stop by but said he would the following day. The next day a truck pulled up, a guy got out....same as before...only this time he knocked on the door and said he was here to take care of the issues and asked me what I wanted done. I told him. He mentioned that the bundle of shingles was left behind as a courtesy and as a 'just-in-case' I ever needed a shingle or two. At this point I felt a bit sheepish for having mentioned this as a complaint but as I said, this was the very first time I have ever hired any one to do a roof for me and had always done my roofing myself. However, no one from Intermountain West Contractors ever told me that they would leave a bundle for me. In fact, the terms and condition of the contract clearly state that any and all surplus materials are the property of IWC. After apologizing for not understanding that the shingles were for me I suggested the guy go up on the roof and look at the caulk job done on the pergola beams. I also asked why they had not used flashing as had been discussed. He said sometimes they use flashing and sometimes they use tar/caulk. He went up on the roof, did some stuff and cleaned out the rain gutters, knocked on the door and said he had to go get some more caulk but that he would be back to finish and clean up around my house and needed to get/find his magnet so he could get all the nails out of the front yard grass. During this time Gerald called me and explained that he had underestimated the number of squares required to roof my house by 10% and told me it would be an additional X amount of dollars. My first thought was that an error on the part of Intermountain West Contractors in accurately estimating roofing material is hardly my responsibility but decided to offer to split the difference. Gerald agreed. The guy came back, went up on the roof, came down and left.........without so much as a knock on the door. I went outside in the front yard and found several nails in the grass. I called Gerald and expressed my concern with having nails in the grass that my grandchildren could step on. Gerald stopped by and he and I found even more nails in the grass. He called his guy and had him come back. After a couple of additional phone calls and at least another visit from the guy with the magnet I think the nails are gone from the grass in my front yard. The short of my experience with Intermountain West Contractor is that I am very pleased with 95% of what they did and how they did it. The new roof looks great and I am confident that it is a quality roofing job and will serve me well for many years. Where is the missing 5% of a 100% satisfaction rating? I am disappointed that they did not use flashing around the pergola beams as discussed but if the tar/caulk will perform as well as flashing I will be okay with it. Getting them to properly clean-up after themselves was a struggle and far more effort than it should have been. This has been by far the biggest frustration for me on this project. It just shouldn't be that difficult to have them clean-up after themselves. There was break down in adequate communication from IWC to me causing me to find myself wondering far too often whether they were done or not or exactly what was going on with my job. Being hit with a 10% additional cost on material after we had an agreed on, contractual, price for the job was a disappointment to be sure. Gerald and I had a couple of direct conversations after all was said and done and he has told me that the things that went awry on my job have been discussed at length internally and with the various crews involved and that he went to a couple of different job site specifically to have a meeting with the guys that were involved on my job. I have read several reviews concerning IWC and it appears that what happened on my job is/was the exception to the norm. While I have no way to know for sure I suspect part of what may have caused the break down on my job was the inclement weather we have had the past few days. I'm sure it has caused IWC to scramble to deal with the delays bad weather causes. I have a sense that the priority of my job for IWC slipped a bit at the end of the project for some reason. My review may seem to focus on what went wrong but Angie's List said they wanted the details. So, there they are. The upside I suppose, I hope, is that the result will be an even more efficient IWC. Would I hire Gerald and his IWC crews again? I absolutely would without reservation. I would also be a bit more detail oriented during the negotiation phase and ensure that the details and expectations are clearly documented and understood. Perhaps some of the 'what went wrong' is on me for having expectations that IWC may not have understood and I did not communicate soon enough. As I said, 95% very well pleased with the result of hiring IWC to do my new roof. I would recommend IWC for roofing projects. I also appreciate Gerald's passionate interest in ensuring his customers are satisfied.

The roofers showed up on time and were quick to get started. The shingles were actually delivered the day prior and already placed on the roof. They cleaned up their mess throughout the day and neatly stacked the trash. There was some minor confusion on the roof as the roofers did not realize the house had different levels. Gerald was able to resolve and the roof was finished. It looks great. The trash was cleaned up the following day by a different crew. As previously noted, the original crew had neatly stacked the debris along side the house pending the clean up crew. Both crews walked the perimeter of the house collecting any items to dispose of. he roofing crew cleaned out all the gutters which was an added plus due to the height of the roof line. The roofers were very courteous and treated my property with respect.

The crews showed up on time and were curteous. Make sure if you are removing an older wood shingle roof and have siding to discuss the gap that will be left between the new roof and the siding. When we asked about Gerald about it he addressed it that day and it looks great. He pulled all the permits, the job was done to code and clean after the job was complete was good. And the best part besides a great looking new roof, no more sweating the 4th of July!

Over all the experience went good. The thing that impressed me the most about working with Gerald is that when a few minor issue came up he was quick to work through them with me. Gerald definitely wants to make sure his customers are happy and pleased with the end product. He will do what ever it takes to make sure they are satisfied. As an example a miscommunication took place when we had an antenna on the roof that we were planning to keep. Even though we told the installers not to throw it away somehow it got thrown out with the old shingles. Gerald made sure we were given a new antenna to compensate for the miscommunication. I would recommend working with Gerald if you want to know that he as the contractor wants to give you a good product and insure you are pleased.

They showed up a 8:00 AM as promised on May 21st but they found several other issues with the roof they did not count on. There was far more damage to the roof so they needed more plywood to repair which took longer the first day. It started to look like it was going to rain and they stayed until 9:00 PM to make sure everything was sealed before they left for the night. Now that in my book is going the extra mile. The second day, May 22nd, the roof was finished and all debre was picked up and everything was put back in place. Gerald did a final walk through on May 23rd just to make sure everything was done and cleaned up the way he said it would be. You could not ask for a better company or respectful individules to do a better job than IWC. If you would like to speak with Gerald Sommer at Intermountain West Contractors call 801-232-5690. He is a fantastic man to work with. He did a great job for us and I'm know he can do the same for you.
Description of Work: After our last bad wind storm we decide we needed a new roof.We saw an advertisetment for IWC (Intermountain West Contractors). We called and left a message and Gerald Sommer responeded very promptly and came that afternoon. He explained that the roof had two layers of shinges on and also two or three weak areas.

.I am very pleased with the results. The price was right, and It is a very good-looking job, done in very good time by an efficient and professional crew. They did a good job in cleaning up after the job was finished. He was thorough in explaining the project beforehand, left me with a written contract, and saw that the work was performed as promised. When one small detail was not performed to my satisfaction, he and his crew were very willing and quick to redo the work. He (Gerald) gave me a rough estimate for replacing the rain gutter, and when the actual bid came in from his subcontractor it was substantially higher. Gerald stuck with his original rough estimate. I felt that he was not bound to do that, but that it was a mark of true honesty on his part. I heartily recommend him as a reliable contractor.

We recently used Intermountain West Contractors to re-roof our house and it was a good experience. It was evident that everyone we had contact with took pride in their work and carried a high level of professionalism. The quality of work was very good but what really impressed me most was that they held precisely to their quoted schedule. They stated early on the start date (May 16th) as well as the total duration time of the project. (1 to 2 days ? to which I admittedly thought to myself, ?Yeah right.? - I?ve had issues in the past with contractors telling me a project should only take about 2 weeks to only then have it drag on for months.) As a credit to their professionalism, they started on May 16th and the project lasted for 2 days. (Though it wasn?t until the following day that the enormous trash bin filled with the old roof was removed) Overall a good experience of which I was quite pleased. If there was any one thing I could call out as an area of criticism it would be in the clean up. They did a fairly decent job collecting the seemingly thousands of rusty nails and debris that fell from tearing off the old roof, though in doing my yard work, I did find quite a few scattered about. Truthfully, that was fine as I wouldn?t expect them to find them all. However, there wasn?t a final round of cleanup after the large trash bin was removed and clearly there were quite a lot of rusty nails and trash bits under it and spread about as I?m sure a lot fell out as the overloaded container was hoisted onto the truck. This bin was placed in our driveway and needless to say, the driveway is a place one doesn?t want to discover 100 or so rusty nails. (Especially these nails as it seems for roofing purposes they all have a small disc around them making their natural resting position to be sticking straight up) Thankfully, we had the notion to check before driving into the garage when arriving home from work otherwise we might have been dealing with four flat tires. I don?t want this one point to reflect too much on their work as again I was very pleased with their professionalism and quality. I would absolutely recommend them. This is more of a cautionary note for the homeowner to ensure you do a full sweep of your surroundings very soon after the project is completed ? especially the driveway after the bin has been removed. My only hope is that this note will prevent someone a punctured tire or tetanus related misfortune.

When we saw Gerald's ad, it looked very appealing because it said they had the best prices in Utah, 0% financing and a lifetime warranty on both materials and labor. Gerald?s quote looked very good but I needed to talk to my wife before we did anything. She thought the quote was too high, did not know anything about the company, had not even met Gerald, and wanted to call a couple of referrals from our friends and family. Since the other quotes were more than $1,500 higher and failed to include any financing, we agreed to take another look at Gerald's company but she still wanted to meet him. Gerald came out to talk to both of us so she could judge for herself. One of our issues was selecting a good color for the roof. We both had definite and different opinions. When we asked Gerald what he thought, he took us outside, looked at the samples and recommended something that neither one of us would have chosen. He explained it would go well with our rock chimney and was the color on his own home. So we went with the recommendation and signed a contract. Gerald set a date, not as soon as we liked, so when an earlier opening came up, he called and asked if we still wanted to start earlier and we happily agreed. His whole crew showed up Monday morning, removed the old roof and started installing the new one. The job was completely finished by Tuesday afternoon, as promised. What a difference two days made! The color was perfect and the new roof considerably updated our home. We have found that Gerald goes the extra mile. Every time we had questions we called and he always patiently explained what was going on. If we were the least bit uncomfortable with his explanation he generally resolved the matter in our favor. He came out several times to make sure we were happy with our progress and our new roof. When he noticed that part of our front walkway was ruined because of shoddy workmanship by another contractor. He said he would contact him and get it made right. When he was unable to ever reach the other contractor, he asked his cement man to repair the damage. Would we use Gerald and Intermountain West Contractors again? Would we refer them to our family and friends? The answer is most definitely yes! For those of you who might be interested in credentials, Gerald and Intermountain West are Better Business Bureau members and certified as Preferred Contractors with several of the manufacturers of roofing materials, including several of the largest in the nation. These certifications not only tell us who is competent but earn us a more comprehensive warranty.
Description of Work: Reroofed our whole home. Removed the old roof so we could qualify for the lifetime warranty, used 24 squares of architectural shingles, used fiberglass ridge cap attic ventilation, drip edge flashing, ice and water shield, synthetic felt, new pipe flashing, resealed heating vents, chimneys etc., with 130 mph warranty. In other other words, the latest and greatest in roofing

Gerald explained the various options for Vinyl and showed us a sample window. He carefully measured each window opening to be sure the correct sizes were ordered. The installer came out to install after the windows were custom built. The installer did a good job of removing and re-installing the window blinds and keeping the house clean. The windows were carefully installed and caulked several ways to make sure they won't leak air or water. The installer was very pleasant to work with. We are very happy with our new windows!

We contacted IWC because of their review and had a good deal on doing a new roof. Gerald got back to us from our initial contact through the website and was down the next day for an estimate. Our roof was larger than the max sq. ft in the deal, but the additional square footage was appropriately priced. We scheduled the time a few weeks later because we were going to be out of town. They started a few days early which wasn't really a problem since we had a house sitter there. When they started removing the shingles (Very old shake) they called and said the underlayment was of a type that the new asphalt shingles couldn't be applied to them and they needed to put a new underlayment down. He gave us a very fair quote and told him to proceed. They were finished up on the morning of the third day! The only thing that is an annoyance is the gentleman that was there when we inspected the final product said the people were on their way to remove the dumpster out of the driveway. They didn't show (Friday). I have called to let them know (It is now Saturday). I hope they work on Saturday as we have a big party. Update Monday 10am. The dumpster is still in our driveway :( thus the 4/5 on punctuality. I know this isn't IWC, but they contracted them so it is their responsibility. They were great to work with. They do a lot of upgrades included in the very well priced service like ridge vents and new drip edges.

Met with IWC Owner/CEO at my commercial property for a walk though of the work I needed done. He very quickly threw out some numbers that were on the low side compared to others I had received. I ask him for a written quote with the scope of work and itemized costs to support the4 verbal numbers he was giving me. I never recieved this written quote even after making a second request. That scared me off.

They came a day early to start the job. They removed the old shingles. They placed large plastic tarps around the house to catch pieces of old shingles as they were removed from the roof. They brought a large trailer to put all the shingles into. When the old shingles had been removed they cleaned up the yard and picked up all the tarps leaving everything very clean and tidy. The next day they came and put the new shingles on including new drip edge. They even hauled off our old swamp cooler and our old roof mounted antena with the old shingles. They once again cleaned up our yard leaving everything looking great. They did a tremendous job.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles and old swamp cooler and installed new shingles.

I was a little skeptical when we got an estimate from a guy who knocked on our door out of the blue. But, I knew we needed a new roof and was happy to not have to go looking for an estimate. It turns out he has done work for a neighbor, who was happy with it. We had a good range of options, and the color we choose is as close to perfect for the house as can be had. Gerald worked with us on the price and gave a us a deal that was more than fair. The final price was very slightly more than the original estimate, but Gerald made it clear from the start what unseen surprises could arise and affect the price, so the final cost was well within the range we expected. The crew was very friendly, was here right on time, and made sure to clean up after themselves. I've done a little roofing in my life, so I went up for a look after they were gone. They did great work. Everything is solid and right where it's supposed to be. The house is a little older and wasn't up to current code on venting, so we had a ridge vent installed along the top of the roof line. It's barely noticeable and will make the house much more comfortable this summer. I appreciated that the dumpster they brought in was on wheels so that the driveway was left completely unmarred. Every interaction with Gerald and his crew was enjoyable, and the roof looks and feels great!

They were very efficient and articulate. They seem to know what they are doing. I was rather pleased that they did it all in one day. I would recommend them to anybody.

We had several companies bid our roofing job. Gerald Sumner (Intermountain West Contractors) came in at an excellent price. He helped us choose a color and the best type of roof for our needs. He was great to work with. The roofers were extremely fast, courteous and hard-working. They put a dumpster in our driveway the morning the work started, and surrounded the house with tarps. They removed the old cedar shake roof and installed asphalt shingles in less than 2 days. They swept the sidewalks and left our driveway and our yard spotless. I think they left it cleaner than it was before they started! The roof looks beautiful - and we are delighted with the results. We appreciate the excellent and timely service from Intermountain West Contractors, and we will certainly recommend this company to our family and friends.
Description of Work: Intermountain West Contractors replaced our roof, which is approximately 3100 square feet. Our previous roof had cedar shakes on it that were about 40 years old. The new roof has asphalt shingles with a 50 year warranty.

Gerald arrived on time to look at our roof and give us an estimate. He was very willing to take the time to answer all of our questions. He was friendly and easy to work with. He was professional and even took off his shoes before entering the house. We were able to get the job done on the day we wanted without any difficulty. The shingles arrived the day prior and the crew was there at the appointed time. We had requested that Gerald obtain a permit and inspection after completion of the job even though it was not required. Gerald was happy to accommodate us with this request. The crew did a good job on cleanup leaving our yard neat and tidy. We were pleased with the roofing job and would not hesitate to recommend this company to any of our friends

Gerald is extremely responsive & timely. He replied to my initial inquiry within an hour,& this was his pattern for the remainder of the transaction. We had 'done our homework' prior to speaking with Gerald,& on every roofing question we posed to him,his answers passed with flying colors. The quality of the roofing job is excellent. There were no nails, or other supplies left behind on our property. The employees were polite & began & completed their work as agreed upon. There was an issue with the measurement of the amount of materials required for the job. Gerald handled this situation in an equitable manner, leaving both buyer & seller in a good position. I will & have reccomended Intermountain West Contracters to my friends & neighbors,& will use him for window replacement in the future.
