I had a Toilet & Utility Sink Low Pressure issue. I called Ridgeline Plumbing and made an appt. for 8:30am on 9-19-2012. The plumber finally showed up at 8:53am. He diagnoses the problem with the sink as a defective faucet that will need replacing. He say's that he found a faucet at his supplier and that it will cost $225 plus his hourly Labor rate of $85 per hour to fix it. I agreed. He comes back about 30 mins later and replaces the faucet and then fixes the toilet low press. issue. Finished at approx. 11:40 am. When finished he says that his boss has the invoice book and that he will have to get me an Invoice later, but that he needs the check right now for a grand total of $635. Total time about 2 hours and 47 mins. I thought this seemed quite high but I paid him anyway, not knowing just how much the toilet parts were. I thought about this for about 20 to 30 minutes and decided to call his boss to find out the cost of the toilet parts. Those parts, as per the Owner Steve Brinkman, were $25. I told Steve that I had just been overcharged, as the grand total as per the plumbers info and his boss(Steves') info, should have been: Faucet= $225 plus $25 for toilet parts plus I agreed to round up the hours to 3 hours total time (even though there were not 3 hours involved) so 3 x $85 per hour = $255. Grand Total = $505. I had just paid $635. I called Steve Brinkman and told him that his plumber had just overcharged me $130. He said, "well my guy is still out, I'll call you back" So I waited about 2 more hours with no call. I waited all day the next day and until 12:00 noon the following day with still no call. So I attempted to call Steve 2 more times the following day with no success. At this point I decided to cancel the check for $635. I then looked on Moen's website and noticed that this faucet was under warranty due to it being defective. Steves' plumber was the one who told me that it was a defective part right from the beginning. I called Moen and they sent me out the exact same faucet that the plumber had just charged me $225 for. Why did this plumber not tell me that a Moen faucet with a definite defect as he stated, was covered under warranty? Not until 9-28-2012 did Steve call me and said that my check had not cleared. I told him that indeed I had put a Stop on that check as per our last conversation on 9-19-2012. And that I would issue him a new check once I received a Corrected Invoice. I even took the new faucet that I had just received back to Standard Supply and had them apply it to Steve's account as per his instructions. On Oct. 2nd I finally received the new Corrected Invoice allowing for the faucet being returned, and noticed that Steve had proceeded to add an additional hour ($85) on to the bill! I guess because he was upset that I was not going to let him get away with overcharging me. I called to ask about the additional hour and was told that he was charging me from the minute his plumber left the shop until he returned 4 hours later. Funny thing was when I talked to him on 9-19-2012 I told him that the plumber was only at my house for 2:47 mins or so and that I would agree to round up to 3 hours. He then claims that it's his policy to charge $135 for the first hour and then $85 per hour thereafter. This was the first time I had heard of this, in all the times he and I talked, and completely in contrast to what his own employee had told me! $85 per hour is what they had always told me, that is until Steve had to come up with an excuse for why I was overcharged $130! Overall the problems were fixed, but had I known the faucet was under warranty because of a defect, I would have ordered the faucet and had it installed at a later date or possibly done it myself. Also why, only after I had complained of being overcharged, only then did the bill mysteriously grow by an additional hour ($85)? There are too many Plumbers in the Yellow Pages to put up with the "less than honest" business practices of Ridgeline Plumbing.
