PerfecTemp Heating & Air

The technician came and determined that a high temperature sensor was triggering, turning off the burner to protect the heat exchanger from overheating. He said the cause was that the air flow out of the heater was very strong but had no where to go because our vents were not big enough. He said our heater was too big for our house, and actually we needed a smaller furnace or bigger vents. However, he said the home warranty company wouldn't cover it because the vents were the problem, not the heater. He said if we didn't replace it the heat exchanger could crack, releasing carbon monoxide in our house, potentially killing us. Rather than diving in to buying a new furnace, we called another HVAC company. The other company found that there was a filter stuck in the fan, causing it to move only slowly. The fan going slow caused the temperature in the burner to get too high. That was why the sensor was triggering. As soon as he removed the filter from the fan area, the problem did not reoccur, and has never reoccurred since. I'm not sure if the technician really didn't check the filter or the fan, or if he just wanted to sell a new furnace. Either way, it was a big hassle and a wasted $120. My advice: don't call PerfecTemp, and if your home warranty company recommends them, ask for someone else.
