This was the only excavator who showed up at least generally when he said he would, came up with a written exact estimate, and actually showed up to do the work! That said, there were a few things that he agreed to do, that he decided not to do. One was haul our dirt away. He said we'd want the dirt to spread around the yard, but we already have enough, so now we have to deal with getting it hauled off. In his defense, I did agree to his idea, though, because I was deferring to his knowledge that we might actually need it. That "knowledge" (seems to me like laziness or maybe he just thought it would be less dirt than it ended up being, so he didn't want to lose money on his bid) was WAY wrong. The stuff that he actually did, that was on our estimate for him to get paid to do, though, he did well. There were some things that he said he'd "throw in for free", that we considered part of the job and that were pretty much not done, or done halfhazardly. He said he would scrape off a layer of weeds in the front, which he did, and then he left in a pile in the yard rather than hauling away. He said he would grade the yard, and it was not graded to drain very well away from the house, so we've had drainage issues all winter. (He also left that big pile of dirt right on top of a downspout drain pipe.) He also said he would clean out some very large areas and tons of huge dead trees that we had behind the retaining wall. He said he'd "throw that in for free", but then after he did the work which his physical estimate showed he should get paid for, he said that he couldn't get all those dead trees--he only took out about 15% of them. Definitely not a go-getter, and a very frustrating experience, since we then couldn't pay him less since that was "for free".
Description of Work: Retaining wall moved, large portion of retaining wall torn away. Some dead tree branches removed and hauled away.
