Handyman Connection of Austin-Westlake

There were problems with the work. The back door will not close unless the deadbolt is engaged and there is a clear gap on the bottom through which you can actually see outdoors. The painting job was extremely sloppy. There was, in fact, paint on the mirror in our bathroom that was not removed. The man who did the work would not adhere to our request that he keep the house closed while he was working; we were constantly closing doors that he had left open. Also, he cut himself, and did not even clean up the blood he left behind. We would never have him out again, and would only consider having them remedy the situation if they were willing to send someone else out at no charge.

I called them on a Friday and they came out and did the work on a Saturday. I used them because of the good rating in Angie's list. They had a special offer and hence the price was good. I will grade them high on all categories.

I thought that his price was fair. I would recommend him. I might not use him again in future.

I really enjoyed the whole experience. He called to verify the appointment beforehand, showed up on time, did the repair work quickly and it was a quality job for a reasonable price. :)

The entire experience went smoothly from start to finish. After finding good reviews on Angie's List, I emailed for an appointment; they returned my call within a few hours and I was able to schedule someone to come out in two days to give me an estimate and complete the work. Phil and his assistant showed up right on time, and estimated that they'd be able to complete the jobs in a couple of hours. They were responsive, courteous & professional in every aspect, including being very careful with my artwork and furniture, ensuring that they weren't leaving marks on the wall with the ladder they were using, etc. I might have been able to pay a bit less if I'd gotten a few other bids for the work, but I was pleased with my experience, and have already contacted them again for possible work.

They were professional and very courteous. They were also prompt to the estimate meeting and only under bid by $120.00. We did have them out twice because we were notified that the first person who did the estimate did not know what he was doing. I would consider looking into this company again for an estimate.

I was very impressed that I was able to make an appointment less than 24 hours beforehand. The receptionist I spoke with was very helpful and made every effort to fit me in. Even better, I was given a one hour window to expect the handyman to arrive. (Other companies had anywhere from a 3 to 12 hour window.) He was very professional and worked quickly.

They sent out a guy for an estimate with a very high price. I didn't like the estimate that they offered. They didn't return any calls after that.

Had a really good experience. Charged far less that another competitor's estimate that I also got from Angie's list. Helped me to re-think and better place three towel racks. (Two I had already tried to install, but bungled.) Also made good observations on my storage space in the garage so had a better placement of elements than I had previously considered. Was able to figure out my gas fireplace...which was more than I had been able to do. Also priced very well. I recommend.

We really like them. We have been using their services for three years now. They clean up after themselves and they do guarantee their work.

They were not good. I had three issues, one of which included tile. I was interested to use the service because I liked the idea of them having a bank of handymen to choose from for the work. However, when they finally called me back, they told me they could not help me with the tile and then hung up. They did not offer to help me with the other two issues. They really dropped the ball, and although I did not use their service, I feel that their front desk is really lacking. I would not call them again.

John was friendly, respectful and professional. He spent all day at our house assembling and installing ceiling fans. He also did a beautiful job removing a glass shower door and restoring the tub tile. We plan on using him for more projects in the near future.

The first day Stephen came out on time and checked out what he needed. Then on the 2nd day he showed up 1 and half hours late. He installed the stairs with a helper. But then he noticed the door hindge was broken. He had to call Home Depot and figure out what to do. He returned the 3rd day(on time) and took down the defective stairs and exchanged them for a good pair. He did not charge me for the reinstallment.

The first person Handyman Connection sent to my house didn't have the craftsman skills to install the crown molding or to patch and texture my ceiling. He was in my house for two days and got very little work done and did a horrible job on the patch and ceiling texture. I called the main office to complain and they were quick to react and fix my problem. They sent out two of their best employees. They sent Dean Groh to install the crown molding and David Hughes to do the ceiling patch, texture and paint. Both Dean and David were extremely professional, cleaned up after themselves, and did an excellent job. The owner called me to make sure I was satisfied and even deducted some off their original estimate because of the problems I had with the first handyman they sent to my house. Based on how quick the company was to respond to the problems I was having with their service and the quality work I ended up getting in the end, I would definitely use them again.

Someone came out to give me an estimate a few days after my first call. He was on time, and communicated clearly with me. His bid was prohibitively high, and he said the work would take a week, so we did not use these services. He seemed prompt, professional and responsive, though, so I would not rule out using this company for handyman work in the future, depending on the estimate.

Job got off to a rocky start but finished up fine. Jim arrived early. There was a little confusion on his part about one of the fan installs on a vaulted ceiling. I had informed them when I made the appointment that one of the ceiling fans that I needed installed was on a vaulted ceiling-14 feet height. When Jim saw the location, he informed me that the ceiling was at least 16 feet high and that he would not be able to do that particular fan install. I informed him that I had told the company this when I made the order. Jim told me that he was instructed on the work order (he even showed me the work order) that the vaulted ceiling was 14 feet high. He again informed me that ceiling was at least 16 feet height and that he did not have a ladder with him that can do the job. I offered to measure the height for him to prove that it was not that high. He agreed but only if we used his tape measure. We measured it and it was 13 feet, 6 inches high. Jim then agreed that the height was less than 14 feet and continued on with the job. He finished up the rest of the installs without any problems or issues.

I haven't used them too often, but whenever they've been here they've been very good. They arrived on time and did the job and then left. I've never had any problems with the work.

Of the many companies I've chosen off Angie's List, this is the only negative experience I've had. Perhaps it's because, as I later learned, they were recently bought out and are under new management. Appointment was set for a Monday morning. They called the Thursday prior to the appointment to ask, if I was happy with their price, would I want them to go ahead with the work. I called them back Friday morning and the man I spoke with (Doug) said they'd be there on Monday morning. I told him I had a few other items I might want to add to the list, to which he said no problem. Monday morning came and went with a no-show from the Handyman Connection. I phoned in the afternoon and they said they could get someone there on Tuesday morning instead. The worker did show up on Tuesday but his office's internal communication had botched the list of work I needed done. Instead of a circuit of switches, he was prepared to work on only a light switch. In fact because he wasn't an electrician he couldn't even deduce the nature of the problem. In the course of giving me a price for the work that he could perform, his manager back at HQ must have blamed me for the missed appointment on Monday because the worker said something to the effect of needing to stay out of the argument between us (and I didn't even know there was one). I told him I didn't appreciate his manager's attitude and that I'd prefer to work with a different company.

It went fine . They had to come back to wipe down the deck because it was still wet from sealer . The gate looks great . I just wish that they would of took the left over broken pieces of wood with them . My husband had to transplant the dirt that was dug up for the posts . They put it over stones that are for a french drain . I am sure that they would of came back and moved the dirt if I asked them to.

He did a great job. The new fan installed was a quality fan but it needed some balancing. Gary made an extra trip later to take care of that at no charge. He continues to ensure that customers are satisfied.

They did a superb job! Our neighbors, who agreed to half the cost, were also extremely pleased. Gary and his crew were professional and reliable.

It took him about 4 hours to do the job, and I am very happy with his work.

I called to get an estimate. I needed exterior work done on my house. I was told someone would come look at my house a few days after I called and that I would be called back that day or the next with an estimate. I was never called back.

John and his co-worker did excellent work. Good communication and decision-making. Will definitely use this group again for future projects.
