Is there an option for negative stars? Richard was supposed to paint our kitchen cabinets, bathroom cabinets, several rooms, retile our shower, and do some exterior repairs. After painting our cabinets and walls, the paint immediately peeled off in sheets. He did not turn off the AC when he sprayed so my ENTIRE house was misted with paint. He painted over our drawer pulls and knobs in the bathroom and apparently lost one, because it was replaced with a mismatched pull. His shower floor tile work was deemed such poor quality by a specified tile contractor that we had to hire to tile the rest of the shower, that it had to be torn out. After the cabinets peeled, he spent a week scraping and sanding before repainting. They turned out awful with obvious drips, overspray, roller texture, etc. He clearly was rushing the job to leave on a trip. When he got back we asked him to address the flaws. He said, "No, I'm not touching these cabinets anymore," and left. He did not offer to return our money, or pay to have them fixed. He never did clean up the EXTENSIVE mess. We also found he had used our materials, such as towels and shop vac, without permission. It cost us a great deal of money and time to clean up. We missed selling our house during the higher priced summer market, and one potential buyer backed out because of the cabinets. We offered him the opportunity to do some work on the house we were moving into, versus suing for the money he owed us. He accepted and then, after we had release another contractor who was about to start the work, Richard quit that job as well leaving us unable to move into our new home. We had to pay for several expensive storage lockers for months while we tried to find someone to do the work. When we asked why he had again left us in a lurch, he had the nerve to accuse us of "ripping [him] off"! He refused to fully compensate us for the work he did poorly or not at all. We eventually settled for about 1/3 of what we had paid him and hired Woody Compton Painting to paint the cabinets correctly. We enjoyed our experience with Compton's. I would NEVER hire Richard Dool to do any work!
