The representative was quick to reply to the initial phone call and request. He was supposed to meet with us Thursday night or Friday but never did get in touch again.

Response from Ratliff Painting & Repair
I have looked back at the requests for services requested through Angie's list and also in my notes from phone calls and I do not have any information on this homeowner. I do not recall this name nor this address. I have had reviews incorrectly published to my company before, so I will be contacting my Angie's List representative to make sure this review truly was intended for my company. I believe this was done in error.

Mr. Ratcliff did an exceptional job ensuring that all aspects of this project were completed to our satisfaction. He was very professional throughout the remodeling. We were originally concerned about how our home would look once the fireplace was removed, but through Mr. Ratcliff's efforts we are extremely happy with the results and have absolutely no regrets.
Description of Work: A defective fireplace was removed from the center of our home. This was a built in unit which violated building codes in several ways. Once the fireplace demolition was completed, the area was tiled to match to the surrounding area. Additionally, the ceiling was patched where the chimney pipe formally was. An electrical outlet on the side of the fireplace was relocated to a floor plug as well as the gas line was capped in the attic.

The one thing I would do different if I ever do this again is I would pay extra and have all wood trim work and cabinets hand painted instead of sprayed .
Description of Work: Called Tony and he came and gave est to paint all of a 2 bedroom 2 bath home from top to bottom. His crew arrived and covered all furniture so no paint would get on anything. They were very careful with our belongings !.His crew was very polite arrived on time and worked very hard !! Tony would pop in at times to check on their work. They took their time sanded places that needed to be sanded .There was a place in the living room that was bad in the dry wall that I paid extra to have repaired and they did a fantastic job on that !!! I also paid extra to have an attic fan cover painted . After they finished we found some areas we thought they missed so we called Tony. He came out saw the problem and got his crew right back out and solved the issues ! I think they did a great job !

Tony's bid on the job was not the lowest I received, but based on my conversations with Tony, and in part on the excellent reviews here, I felt he would do a better job, and I was not disappointed. His workers were clean and friendly. They arrived daily at the scheduled time and put in at least 8 hours every day; somtimes more. They were very detail-oriented and seemed to take pride in doing good work. The job was completed in seven days. Clean up after the job was satisfactory, as all containers & rubbish was picked up and placed in the furnished trash cans. Overall, his work was an excellent value and I wouldn't hesitate to use Ratliff Painting again on future jobs.

The only initial concern we had was that we were told at the time of the first call that someone would be out on Wednesday or Thursday to give an estimate. We never heard from anyone. My husband finally called them on Thursday afternoon, and was told that they thought they were supposed to be there Friday. After that initial snafu, no problems or complaints at all. Someone arrived promptly for the next appt we set up. They started on the job the following Monday, and are finishing it right now.
Description of Work: We used Ratliff Painting and Repair to pressure wash/clean our privacy fence. They did an excellent job and the fence looks like new! We will definitely use again.

I called Tony and he came out immediately to give me an estimate. He was very cordial but professional. The price for painting the ceilings and the living room paneling was reasonable. We scheduled a start date of December 17,2012. Tony informed me it would take about 4 days. He and his team showed up on time and quickly started working. They were very detailed in preparing (taping) so they did not get ceiling paint on anything but the ceiling. We would highly recommend Ratliff Painting & Repair. Tony and his staff are beyond reproach. Tony, especially, is one of the good guys and represents his company well. If he tells you he is going to do something you can bet he will get it done. We definitely recommend Tony's company and will use him again.

I can't say enough about how pleased I am with Tony's work. I was able to get in touch with Tony when I needed and he was very professional and courteous. I loved the fact that so much work needed to be done and he finished it all in one Saturday! Mr. Ratliff does awesome work and I've already recommended my neighbor to use him. They're starting on his project this week. I'll definitely use Tony's services again.
Description of Work: I had three areas in my house that needed repair and painting. In the front hallway, mirror (heavy) fell off the wall and busted the baseboard to pieces. I thought that it would have to be completely replaced, but he repaired and painted it. It looks like brand new! I had some areas in the living room that needed to be repainted above the fireplace. Tony matched the paint perfectly to the existing ceiling paint and recaulked around the crown molding where a little separation had occurred. The biggest part of the job was the garage. I had one giant hole and two smaller holes in the sheetrock. He patched the holes, retextured and painted the entire garage. I expected to be able to tell that repair work had been done, but when Mr. Ratliff got finished, it looked like the house had just been built.

We contacted a couple of painters before I saw Tony on Angie's List. We were both impressed by the detailed questions he asked and had confidence in him even before he started. Since we both work during the day we rarely saw him but he kept us informed of what was going on and what and when to expect next by text and phone. If I had to do it all over again I would change nothing.
Description of Work: Tony did an awesome job for us. I will not hesitate for a moment to call him for the next project. The high ceiling in the living room was going to be too difficult for us to get to ourselves - and we were actually fortunate we had to call a pro. He painted the ceiling, hung the new ceiling fans, textured and painted the walls and left us with a room even better than I imagined. Every detail was attended to, all materials were cleaned up - and he even cleaned the ceiling beams that he didn't paint. I have personally done similar projects myself so I appreciate his expertise. His helper was also a great guy, meticulously protecting our stairway from paint, dust, and scratches. Again, an awesome job!

we are very pleased with the work done by Tony's company. We needed the entry hall painted, (had wallpaper on it) , also the living room painted, including a skylight, and we needed a bar opening sealed off and painted. We also needed a small 1/2 bath to be re-textured to a smoother finish and repainted. Arnold, who performed this work was exceptional in his job performance! Tony helped us save some money on the entry hall by recommending that he seal the wallpaper and paint over it. We are very pleased that it turned out so well. We have recommended Tony's company to several other people and we will use him again. We are intending to continue to do other improvements to the house and Tony will be our number 1 choice to handle the job! Well done Tony! and thank you.

Tony's team power washed the gutters and the outside of the house. They then replaced and repaired any wood that that was rotten or damaged. They then painted the exterior of our home including the garage, front and back doors. He was very easy to work with and had no problem working around our changing schedule which included a mini vacation for me and my family. He was also a man of his word and did his best to accomodate any request that we had.I will definitely use Tony and his company again.
Description of Work: Tony and his painter, Leo, did a very good job painting the exterior of our home. This included replacing rotten wood, repairing some wood that was damaged by dogs, and painting both the front and back doors. He also cleaned the gutters using a high pressure sprayer and replaced the gutter covers.

Tony came to my house to give an estimate on installing granite countertops. He brought along another contractor who had samples for me to view. They were both informative, friendly and understood what we were wanting. Great experience, they bent over backwards to get the job done in the time frame we needed. Tony's recommendation was great, we found everyone to be very experienced and professional. I would recommend!

Because of difficulties coordinating our schedules, we spent a few months trying to work together to get this job done. The results were worth the wait!
Description of Work: Tony headed up the remodeling of our master shower recently, and the results are beautiful! We are so pleased with our new bathroom. His crew did all of the demo work, raised the shower ceiling, and re-tiled the shower. They also had to re-texture the ceiling in there after removing the "cave" look.

I called Mr. Ratliff about painting the exterior of my daughter's house in Tyler. He had a little time that afternoon and came over to look at the job. He explained in detail what he would need to do to get the house prepared for painting. He was very professional and came back with an estimate after a few days. We discussed paint and I decided on the premium of the Valspar brand. My daughter had picked out the colors and he was very experienced in knowing which colors would go where. He pointed out that the porch ceiling would be better in a lighter color (my daughter chose some dark colors for the house). My daughter, an adult with high functioning autism, could be a little challenging. Mr. Ratliff was very understanding about some things concerning her, like having to call her in the morning so she would know they would be there and not alarm her. The work was finished in a timely manner and her house is beautiful! He and his crew were friendly, accomodating and professional. I was so pleased by his work that I am now using him for my daughter's bathroom remodel. I will definitely write another review when he finishes with the bathroom and her bedroom ceiling.
Description of Work: scraped all the wood, repaiedr the warped wood on the window sills, power washed and caulked. Painted the brick facade, window trim, house trim, the three doors, porch and porch ceiling. He replaced the column on the porch which had rotted at the bottom and attached the address numbers on it. He put an outside electric plug by the front door.

My husband and I have used Tony on a number of occasions. He is our "go-to guy" for any and all home repairs/issues. He and his guys are very hard workers. They get the job done and it always looks great. We did have a bit of an issue with Tony's subcontractor during this particular project. He did not do the work that he said he would do. Tony fired the subcontractor as soon as he realized there was an issue and fixed all of the things he had messed up at no cost to us. The whole project did take a little longer than expected, but that was because Tony had to replace this bad subcontractor mid-job. Overall, we are VERY pleased with our kitchen. It looks incredible. All of Tony's other subcontractors did absolutely superb work. We will continue to use Tony and his guys in the future. I have recommended Tony to many of my friends and he has done great work for them as well. You cannot go wrong by hiring this guy!
Description of Work: Our kitchen remodel consisted of the following services: taking out old cabinets; building and putting in new cabinets; replacing old countertops with granite; installing a new tile backsplash; replacing sinks and faucets; texturing and painting walls; opening up an existing wall between the living room and the kitchen; hanging new lighting

This was a very easy process. Tony responded quickly to my call for an estimate, and gave me a detailed explanation of how the work would be done, emphasizing the quality points of the process. It was VERY clear that he really cares about doing a GOOD job, and I liked him immediately. We were out of town during most of it , and came home to a brand-new looking house. It was wonderful. I plan to use him for all home maintenance and remodeling projects.
Description of Work: The exterior of the house was power washed, the remains of ivy attachments to the house were hand-scraped, rotten eaves were repaired, squirrel damage was clad with metal strips, everything was caulked, and then the trim and gutters were painted with a new paint color. He also put glass into the center of four of my kitchen cabinet doors.

Based on the excellent reviews Mr. Ratliff had on Angie's List, I contacted him to provide me with a quote on exterior trim painting and pressure washing. He showed up on time and provided me with a reasonable quote. Before performing the work, he came back out to my house with Leo, who was to be performing the work, and introduced him to me, which was nice, and went over what needed to be done with Leo. Both were very polite and professional. The work was performed within a reasonable amount of time, and I am very happy with the finished results. Leo and crew did an excellent job. A few days later, my water heater suddenly went out. I called Mr. Ratliff that morning, and he was able to come out within a few hours, which I appreciated greatly. After a couple of trips to Lowes, he had all of the parts he needed and he was able to get the new water heater in, and put the old one in his truck to haul away. For whatever reason, he failed to get the line and fittings needed to replace the pressure relief line. He told me that it wasn't a big deal, that it shouldn't cause me any problems, and that he would run back out to my house on Saturday to take care of it (this was a Tuesday). I went ahead and paid him for the repairs. Several weeks went by, and Mr. Ratliff and I communicated by phone and text on numerous occasions, and he assured me that he hadn't forgotten about me and would be out soon to finish the job. After waiting nearly 10 weeks, I had hired a different contractor to come in and do some other work for me (toilet, sink and garbage disposal replacement) and asked him to go ahead and take care of the pressure relief line while he was here. Off he went to Lowes, got the parts, job was taken care of in just a few minutes. He charged me $35.00. Not a lot of money, but I had already paid someone else to do this. Mr. Ratliff contacted me this week and told me he was going to get with a plumber, give him my address, and have him come out and finish the job. I told him I had already taken care of it. In fairness, he offered to reimburse me. This would have been an A+ review if he had only taken the five minutes needed to come to my house and complete the job I paid him for. He seems like a really nice guy, and his company did great work, with the one small exception. Lesson learned: Always make sure the work has been completed and is done to your satisfaction before handing over a check to anyone performing a service for you.

I was originally only hired to paint the exterior. The hot water heater leaking had nothing to do with any work that I had previously done at this home. I was called one afternoon about water leaking into her home. I dropped everything I was doing on another job and spent hours well into the evening draining the old hot water heater, removing it, and installing a new one. I also hauled off her old hot water heater for free. I did make a couple trips to the parts store to purchase the hot water heater and other parts, but did not have the plumber's tool needed to hook up the pressure relief line and install the fittings. My plumber had that tool but was unavailable that evening to come do this repair. I should not have allowed so much to time to pass before taking care of it. I am definitely at fault for that. I did a great job on her exterior and also made myself available on the spur of the moment to replace her hot water heater. I did keep in touch with the member, assuring her I had not forgotten. My plumber and I were working on some major kitchen and bath remodels and I simply allowed this minor repair to slip through the cracks. I am sorry for any inconvenience and I have submitted a check to the member to cover the $35 she was out paying someone else to hook up the pressure relief line.

It went very bad. He got about half way through, when him and his sub-contractor (Candido Meyer) got sideways. Then Candidos sub contractor had a falling out and no one would come back and finish the work. Tony did not do due dilligence in hiring the job out. He could not finish the job. We were down a month before we could get another contractor to come out and fix the job. The last dealing we have had with him is April 7th.

I am very sorry for the experience that this member had. I will not take away from the fact that things went very badly for her and her husband. Not many details are offered here and I would like to explain my side to this. I was taken for a quite a ride by a dishonest subcontractor. Unfortunately, this member's job was one of the 3 jobs negatively affected by his unethical practices. As mentioned in my response to the report below this one, as soon as I realized his deceitful practices, I confronted him and no longer allowed him on any of my jobs. I am currently pursuing criminal charges against him. It has since been found out that he is a professional con artist, uses multiple social security numbers, has a long arrest record and has an F rating with the BBB under his former business name (for taking money on jobs but never completing the work). He is very good at manipulating people and certainly had me fooled when I hired him. He took money for work he never completed on multiple jobs, he went to homeowners behind my back asking for draws on the job written directly to him and then asking me for those same draws. I have been out thousands of dollars because of him. This was a very stressful situation for both the homeowners and me. It truly was a nightmare. I kept the member and her husband informed of what I was finding out about this particular sub and I asked for them to give me some time to find another carpenter to complete the work. I was looking for someone else who I could trust completely to handle this, as I wanted this job to end much better than it had started. I sent the member's husband the resume of a carpenter I was planning to hire. I had to pull off this job for a while in order to recoup financially so that I could afford to hire someone else, basically paying twice to have this work done. It is also important to mention that while the estimate given to this member was $12,000, that is not what I was paid. I received 2 draws off the job totaling less than $6000, much of which was paid to the subcontractor. Once everything went awry, I was not paid anything further. At some point, they chose to allow the sub back on their property and paid him more money to finish the job, despite the warnings about his dishonest behavior. He did not finish the job and it is my understanding that he took them for that money as well. I hate what they had to go through and had all intentions of finishing their job. I just needed some time to get back on my feet so that I could make that happen. I was going through the same situation with two other jobs and was trying to juggle salvaging these 3 jobs. This whole ordeal was devastating financially and was very, very stressful. I know the homeowners who went through this with me feel the same way. At some point after losing patience with me (which I completely understand on their part) the member and her husband told me they were cutting me loose from the job, realizing it was quite the nightmare for all of us. They said they just wanted to get it finished and would hire someone else. I walked away from that job believing they were understanding of what all had gone wrong and that, as best we could, were parting ways amicably. I have definitely used this experience as a learning tool and will be more diligent in thoroughly checking out all subcontractors before hiring them. I typically use subs that I have known for years and have never had a problem like this. This was someone I had only known a few months and sadly I bought into his story. I take great pride in providing quality, professional work and have many reviews to support that.

Tony would always tell us what to expect and the timeframe we were looking at. That means so much!!!!
Description of Work: Really don't know what we spent as we had several things done but the main thing that I would like to point out is that my husband and I felt that we needed to replace our fence and a deck that was on the back of the house. Tony recommended that we let him power wash it. The fence and the deck looked absolutely NEW when he finished!!!!! We couldn't believe the difference!!!!! Talk about saving some $$$$$$$. We have referred him to several people that we know and he ALWAYS does a great job!!!!!!
