he was coming in to repair a porch that had been added years ago and leaked... He was very understanding of my budget and came up with a way to save some money and get it repaired... good job!!! good price!! excellent service!!! He will definitely be on the top of my list to use again!! I really loved that he is a Christian man and was very trustworthy and knowledgeable... I felt very comfortable doing business with him because I am a single mother and sometimes you tend to get taken advantage of.... I highly recommend him!!

Instead of giving us a huge estimate and telling us a problem that didn't exist (like another company had done), he told us how we could fix it ourselves for about $20! He didn't even charge to the trip out to the house. When he came for the bathroom estimate he was honest about what it cost and what materials it made sense to use etc. He gave his expert opinion on some things that we were wanting to do. While some life situations (job changes and the addition of a 4th child) have prevented us from moving forward with our project, we have full intentions to hire Tony when we are ready to get the job done. He is an honest hard working man and I know without a doubt that he would do an awesome job, start to finish, with our budget in mind. I trust him with our money and our home!
Description of Work: Tony came out to our house a couple of different times. One was at the last minute to give us an estimate on some roof damage. And another was to measure and give us an estimate on some bathroom upgrades.

His guys did a very professional job. We have used Tony in the past for painting, texturing, ceiling scraping, etc and have been very pleased with the quality of work received. Great communication during job process. We are happy with how it turned out and will call Tony again for our next house repair/remodel.
Description of Work: Removed dilapidated doors and rebuilt a wall to frame out and install a window in its place. Did everything from tearing out to finishing paint & caulk.

Overall Very Frustrating. We will never hire this man again. Job was started on July 26th and we were told it would take around 3-4 weeks. Job ended up taking 14 weeks initially but as you will read later it is still ongoing! The first few weeks went very well. The painters were awesome and did a great job tearing down wallpaper, texturing, and repainting. That took about 2 weeks though as they were sent to do other jobs during the process by Tony Ratliff. The tile guys then came in and the work looked great. We were very pleased with what the shower looked like. It did take a very long time though. They were called to other jobs multiple times. In the meantime I started discovering that Tony was never around. We thought that he was letting people in to our house and then going from job to job. He was really giving these random guys our garage code and they were letting themselves in. There was never any theft or anything it just made us very uncomfortable once we found this out. The only time Tony really came by was when he needed a check for jobs completed. After the shower was built we really started running into issues. The bathtub took weeks to be installed. The granite countertops took weeks to be installed. The plumbers took forever to install the shower system, the bathtub faucet, and the sinks. It was 2 months in between when the painters and shower tile was done before the rest of the bathroom was complete, so we thought. At the end Tony refused to install the cabinet knobs, towel racks, and light/electrical plates. I was told that was not in our contract. They way I saw it, he had to take all those things off to paint the walls and cabinets it should have been done. It is a little thing and I did them myself no problem but its the little things that make you great. There are 3 big red flags that made me give Tony an F grade. 1. Around November we started noticing the grout in the shower floor never dried. We began to Text Tony on November 25th to let him know about the issue. I could not get Tony to come look at his work until March 10 and he only came when we informed him that will take other measures if he did not come look at our shower immediately. He came with a plumber to look at the shower and we all agreed it was not a plumbing issue. Tony wanted to just re grout and reseal the tile. We said no, we wanted it done right. March 21 he finally came back with a plan. He thought the vinyl had a hole in it. They came to the house and looked at it and told us it just needed to be re grouted and resealed. The next day we told him no, we want the floor rebuilt because it was obvious we had bigger issues than just grout. We did not hear anything from him again until April 22 and his guys showed up the next day and started. It was obvious when the demo was done that the original materials used were not correct for this project...that's why the grout never dried. The tile guys have now done demo and rebuilt the base of the shower. Tony is now responsible for purchasing the stone so we can finish our shower and as of this writing it has been 3 days and he has not responded to any of our communication. 2. Excuses! Tony is the king of excuses. You will never get a straight answer from the man. I even had to tell him multiple times that I do not need to know why the work hasn't been done all I need to know is when it will be done. Nothing was his fault, it was always someone else causing the issues. If you mess up, own it! I will respect you a lot more and give you a lot more slack. 3. Untrustworthy. We ended up only communicating with Tony through text message so that I could have a record of everything we agreed upon. We were glad of that when he installed the granite in our master and originally we had talked about doing our guest bathroom but let him know through text message that we did not want to do this. He then tried to get us to buy the granite that was to be used in the guest bathroom and I was able to send him a screen shot of our texts. Another issue happened when we got to the back splash of our tub. We had order 3 different size stone. Two of the sizes went in the shower and then we ordered a subway size tile for the backsplash of the bathtub. Once the shower was complete Tony took all the extra tiles and once I told him the smaller tile was for the back splash he informed me that he had already taken the stone back to the place for a refund and we should get it soon. Well the place informed me when I ordered it that since it was a special order it could not be returned. I told him we needed the stone and he would have to replace it. The next day the tile guy showed up with the larger stone and proceeded to cut that stone to smaller pieces. It turned out terrible and we made him redo it and once again said we ordered the smaller stone for that project. Later that evening the smaller stone magically appeared with another stone guy and the backsplash was completed. I did contact my stone dealer and as I figured no one returned stone and even if they did he would not have accepted it. On top of the shower I am still waiting on Tony to repair a rusted ring around the shower handle (that was placed because they cut too big a hole in the stone for the faucet) and a significant nick in the granite one of his guys made when they had to reinstall the bath tub faucet due to a leak. It is now April 29th, 9 months after the job was started and we are still waiting for our job to be complete. We have decided to purchase the tile ourselves so the workers can finish the shower just to have this project done. It saddens me to write this. We interviewed and got bids from numerous contractors so in the beginning we felt like we made the best choice, but I would not trust Tony to do even a small project in my house again.

Tony was at the job site a few times, and most of those times to get paid, couldn't wait until the job was finished. On painting the fasia trim, had to tell the guys to paint all surfaces, and then primer was used because they didn't have reg paint for the inside surface. The fence pickets used were 8 foot but they kept the 6 ft post, had to tell him it needs 8ft, also had to fix the gate as it was stuck. The workers left a big pile of wood and concrete from the job, it was finally picked up when I kept asking who was getting this picked up several days later. Might have been better if Tony was on the site more.

I contacted Tony Ratliff on or about November 10th to give me an estimate on painting my small commercial office building. I had used Tony previously on a residential interior paint job, so I was confident that he would do a good job. He came by the next week, looked at the job and then called back a day or two later with the estimate. After accepting his proposal, he scheduled the job for the end of the following week. His crew started work on November 27th and finished up the following day. As information, Mr. Ratliff has a painting crew that does the work. They arrived on time on both days, were hard working and efficient and left the job site clean. The quality of the work was excellent, as expected. I will use Ratliff Paining again when the need arises.

Slow. Promising work and completed most of it. Asking for another partial payment when he was clearly told that (after 2 partial payments) there would be no more until he completed the job and my inspector checked his work. Today, 9/14 he says if I don't give him more, he will not complete the work. Sorry, but that is blackmail and I will not submit to it. I THINK the work he has done to date is satisfactory, and I will be happy to pay him his balance due if he will just finish the job so I can get it inspected. Very unprofessional and emotionally dramatic man that I will not play emotional games with. In fact, he tried to convince my wife to undermine me as his primary contact person, and told her that he would have to seek legal recourse for non payment. This is really weird, since we have already paid him twice. Paid to date is $2500, due is $935. Now why ask for $50 today and play games threatening not completing the work if he is not paid? I can not put a rating on the quality work without a final inspection of it. We have given the contractor a week to contact us and to finish his work. As of this date, 9/20/15 he has not. I have scheduled my inspector to go into the attic and inspect the work done there as well as inside the house. Depending on his inspection, I am willing to pay him for what he has done.
Description of Work: Worked in attic and inside ceiling repair. Installed attic insulation. Not sure if he will complete all of the items to be fixed because we are have an issue about partial payments. I have my inspector coming on 9/23/15

Tony answered his phone on a rainy Saturday when I had a leak in my roof. He said he would send men out that day to repair the roof and he did. Several people I called said they would get back to me that day and never did. Tony followed through with everything he told me he would do. He sent men out who repaired the roof jacks and repaired the ceiling. I was extremely thankful to find someone who would actually do what they said they would and do a top notch professional job. I will call on Tony when I need painting or reconstruction work done, as he does both. Don't hesitate in calling him, you will be very pleased with Tony and the quality of his work.
Description of Work: The boots on both vent pipes on my roof had holes in them and were leaking in my bedroom. Tony and his crew came and put a temporary fix on the roof which was on a Saturday, and then came back the following Monday and repaired both boots. The came back the next day and repaired the ceiling in my bedroom.

The dry wall repair was very quick and Tony's guy did a great job at matching the existing texture and paint. You really can't even tell there is a patch there. The whole job took a few days mainly to allow enough time for everything to dry before proceeding to the next step (i.e. drywall, texture, paint). They were very clean and made sure to cover the counters and appliances in the kitchen to minimize the dust.
Description of Work: We had a small pin hole leak in the copper pipes in-between the floors above the kitchen. We had to cut the drywall in the ceiling to access and repair the pipe. Tony's crew came in after the plumber and repaired, textured and painted the ceiling to match.

I get hundreds of calls and text messages every week. Things "fall off" my phone very quickly due to the large amount of incoming calls and texts. I had this homeowner's name and number and a reminder jotted down on a post-it note, as I knew it would get lost in my phone. The post-it note fell down in a groove in my truck and I found it some time later. I don't remember dates as this was 5 months ago. Upon finding the note, I called this homeowner, leaving a voicemail in which I apologized for not getting back with him and explained what had happened with the note. I never heard back from him after leaving the voicemail. It was a simple mistake and I regret that it happened. This is definitely not something that happens often. I am extremely busy running jobs, directing my crew, bidding new jobs, answering calls, and juggling a family (I have 3 small children at home). I try my best to stay on top of communication with everyone.

The job went very well.? They arrived promptly each morning and worked all day.? They protected all the floors leading to the master bathroom very nicely.? The work completed was beautiful.? The job took longer than I expected but overall it was a great experience.? I will definitely call them again for more projects.? If I had to put one thing down that I would appreciate to happen differently, it would be to receive a phone call or text every couple of days with updates on how the job is going and projected timelines.? I'm a nut about communication so that would be the only thing I would suggest.? I can't wait to have them update the rest of my house!!

The Ratliff crew was awesome! They took great care to cover and protect the walls, mirrors, woodwork, etc. They were very responsive to anything I asked them to do while on the job. I rated their punctuality a "B" only because they started a day later than we expected, but this did not cause us an inconvenience. They went above and beyond to satisfy our needs. Money well spent! Ratliff Painting & Repair did a good job overall, especially considering the starting point of our projects. For example, the largest project was painting a very large deck in which the carpenter had installed the boards with the "stamps" facing upwards (i.e. the black stamps that lumber mills put on their boards). Ratliff went to great pains to remove all of these before beginning the staining process. Another example was an exterior wood staircase that was old, distressed, and badly needed to be restained. He pressure washed it twice, and he explained that this was neccessary because it can be difficult to see the dirty parts once the wood is wet--so it's good to go back through a second time to make sure you haven't missed anything. The last example was a pair of bunk beds that he stained. I was really impressed at how clean the room was when he was finished. Most of the contractors that I've worked with leave a mess behind that we have to clean up ourselves. Lastly, I gave him discretion over what stain to use for one of our jobs, and he chose a high end Sherwin Williams stain--not some cheap "Contractor Grade" stain. The only problem was that he seems to be in high demand which means that we had to wait in line before he could get to our job. But we've worked with a few different painters before, and we've learned that good ones are hard to come by, and it's worth waiting for someone who will do a good job.

We both agree that there was a problem with communication during this project. Who would pay $6,850.00 for an inside a/c unit and a promise to repair a damaged floor and sheet rock in a small closet? Mr. Ratliff admitted that he paid $3,200 for the purchase and installation of the inside unit. That leaves $3,650.00 for labor and materials for a closet that measures 4 feet by 4 feet! I assumed that the bid would involve whatever it took for a working air conditioning system. I soon found out that it would cost an extra $2040 for an outside unit, when the outside unit broke down immediately with of the drag of the updated unit in the house, I paid out for the new unit. If an outside unit would have been included in the initial bid then labor and materials would then be $1,600.00, which I feel would have been generous but acceptable because he also promised to have the vents cleaned. None of this includes the $500 for a blower fan in the outside unit which proved to be weak and was not allowing the inside unit to charge. Tony admitted that he told Stonbridge (the sub-contractor) to replace the fan and yes, I paid the $500. To clarify, the sink project came up in the middle ofthe a/c unit project. I had purchased a stainless steel sink with a faucet at Home Depot and asked Tony if he would install it. He said it would cost $400 to install the sink and faucet. I was out of state, closing on the sale of my house at the time and he did cut the hole for the sink and then called after to say that the faucet that came with the sink did not match up and it would cost even more to put in the faucet! He did reimburse half of the money because the work stopped there. Another factor in this debacle was that Mr. Ratliff included vent cleaning in the original bid. He said that he called a couple of subcontractors to take care of that and they declined. When I researched it, I found a company that would do it for $500. He reimbursed $200 for that. In the Provider response, it was mentioned that the credit card company debited Ratliff's account or the amount that was in dispute; which is standard proceedure. I had nothing to do with that except ask for help from my credit card company. His account has been credited the whole amount because Discover Card said that this case was beyond their realm of service. In conclustion, I ask for a refund of $2,040. Mr. Ratliff would keep $4,810.00, It is my hope that this can be settled without legal action.

I was hired to install a new INSIDE A/C unit in their home, repair a damaged floor and sheet rock in the A/C closet, and install a new sink in their kitchen. These things have been done. The details of the work completed include, but are not limited to: pumping Freon from the old unit, removing the old unit, hauling the old unit off and disposing of it properly, removing old moldy sheetrock, hauling that off, installing new sheetrock, taping, bedding & texturing the walls, sealing and painting the walls, repairing, sealing and painting the flooring, cutting the hole for the sink, and installing the sink. I have a receipt showing where I paid out $3200 for the purchase and installation of their new inside A/C unit. This homeowner's "estimate" of what she believes is an accurate amount of money spent on materials ($900) is FAR from accurate. Not only did I pay out the $3200, I also paid for materials to do the repairs to the A/C closet and paid out wages/subcontractor fees to the men who worked for me on this job, including an electrician who had to install an outlet for her A/C unit to plug into. Hiring an electrician was not part of our original agreement, but had to be done to properly install this new unit. I did not even charge the homeowner for the electrician's fees. The homeowners were out of town during the course of this job and all communication was done over the phone or through text messages. I had to make a decision to bring an electrician over as we discovered the previous unit was hard wired. I ate the cost on this. Everything went awry with this job when the homeowner's OUTSIDE A/C unit quit working. I was NOT hired to replace the outside unit. TWO A/C technicians (one who works for himself, one who works for Stonebridge A/C), examined the outside A/C unit before installing the new inside unit, and they both believed the outside unit to be in decent working order. It was indeed an old unit, but it was running properly at the moment. At this point, my suggestion to the homeowner was to only replace the inside unit. We did this. We had trouble getting the new inside unit to charge up and Stronebridge A/C assessed that the blower fan in the outside unit was weak and was not allowing the inside unit to charge. They replaced that fan, I made the homeowner aware and she paid for this repair. Again, she was fully aware we were not replacing the outside unit, only making a repair to it. A week or so later, the A/C quit working. I sent Stonebridge A/C over to check it out, as I wasn't sure at this point WHY it wasn't working. I agreed and did pay for the homeowners' hotel room that night because I did not know at this point if this had anything to do with work I had done. It turned out that it was NOT a problem with the inside unit, rather the outside unit had quit working. It was too old and wasn't strong enough to continue running in conjunction with the inside unit. The old relay switches in the outside unit were too old and weak to keep up with the new inside unit. Stonebridge A/C assessed it again and told the homeowner at this point, the outside unit needed to be replaced. This is when the homeowner sent me a letter demanding that I pay for the cost of replacing the outside unit. At this point, her complaint was not about the other work that I had done, but the fact that she believes I am responsible for replacing the outside unit. She states that because I (along with 2 other techs) said it "appeared" to be okay and didn't need replacing at the start of the job, that I am now liable for that unit, because it ended up failing. I am in NO WAY liable for a unit that is simply old and quits working. It has nothing to do with any work that I did. I was not hired to replace that outside unit and I will not be paying for that. This is no different than if a mechanic verbally tells me my vehicle "appears" to be running properly, then a week later it breaks down. The mechanic is not responsible for buying me a new vehicle or paying for the repairs. Once I did not agree to pay for the installation of a new outside unit, the homeowner changed the nature of her complaints, saying that I did not complete any facet of the job. This is simply untrue. She has a new inside unit in her home, sitting inside a completely revamped A/C closet, and has a new sink installed in her kitchen. At the point where this job turned sour, there was a couple of things not completed on the sink install. I sent the homeowner a refund for those things back in September. Unfortunately, I am not able to make any counter offers at this time because on September 5th, the homeowner initiated a chargeback with her credit card company against me through PayPal, and until that decision is made, I have a negative balance with PayPal. She has left it up to the credit card company to now decide whether or not I will be paid for this job. As it stands right now, her payment of $6850 has been revoked and I have lost all payment from this job. It is my hope that the homeowner will re-evaluate her demands and will be rational and reasonable in this dispute. Demanding almost every penny of her money back, as if I never even did any work her, is far from reasonable.
