The painting was done well except for missing around an outlet. Unfortunately, they installed this wainscoting and the outlet no longer sits flush against the wall because the it hits the hole (see pic). The trim was installed very poorly requiring a lot of putty in the seams (example pic attached) and poor quality materials were chosen for trimming an exterior door. He claimed they were going to sand and fill and router the trim (at $50 an hour instead of buying good material) but they had already primed it as you can see in the pic. The work was being done hourly and slowly. The to-do list was lost so workers were “guessing” what needed to be done for a couple days. A plumbing access in the laundry was mudded over but other spots that were actually to be fixed in bathroom ceiling not touched. I included a pic of one ceiling area that was “repaired” We paid this contractor for the work that had been done so far and asked them to leave. They had a very good rating on here which is why we hired him, so maybe this is not their normal quality work but I wouldn’t hire him again.

They say a picture speaks a thousand words. Well, not in this case. The pictures posted are of incomplete work because we were asked to cease the job after one week. So, what you're seeing here is work in progress. Please keep that in mind. Upon our first meeting, both husband and wife agreed to hourly charges because my crew was traveling quite a distance to this job (1.5 hour drive daily). Also, as is normal for many contractors, when there is a list of random, small, knock-out jobs, it's more efficient to charge hourly. This was all discussed up front and they agreed. Contract signed by both parties. As far as materials go, they had some materials already purchased that they asked me to use and then agreed to reimburse me for whatever materials I bought. They asked us to install a particular chair rail trim in their bathroom that they had purchased themselves. Upon completion, they said they had bought the wrong kind and couldn't believe we didn't notice. How were we supposed to know? I was just doing what was asked. All customers have different taste. Not my place to question their trim of choice. Concerning what she claims is "cheap material," I bought what is called #2 wood trim which almost always has a knot hole or two. Par for the course, we fill the hole with filler and sand it. #1 wood trim is typically only bought when the wood will be stained, not painted. Stained wood shows the grain and texture of the wood. Painting does not. Most all contractors follow this same rule. For the closet mud work, that picture is of ONE coat of mud on a large area where we installed sheet rock over a huge hole. The first layer is always rough. Again, normal. Had we finished the job, there would have been more layers applied, sanded down smooth, vacuumed and painted. Same goes for the picture of the hole beside the light. One coat, not finished. And we never even got a chance to repair the holes around the light. Her claim that we guessed at what to do for 2 days is false. I did misplace the list, but on the same day we started the job, her husband simply printed me another one. We were hired to repair holes all throughout the house. My guys saw a large hole in the laundry room and fixed it, not realizing it was the access hole. One of the tasks we did get to complete was sanding, vacuuming, priming, caulking and painting all the paneling. This took 2 days to complete. She said the work looked great but complained that it took too long to do and said she could have it done it herself in just one day. She went on to complain of other things she felt took to long to complete, insisting she could have done everything quicker herself. Finally, she also accused me of lying on the hours my guys worked. At one point, she argued with me that only one of my guys had worked on one particular day, although there were actually TWO guys there. Thankfully, her teenage/adult son overheard her argument and reassured her that there had indeed been two guys on the job that day. He had seen it for himself. This is not typically how my jobs go and it's never enjoyable to have an unhappy customer. They have used other contractors/remodelers to do work before me, so I can't help but wonder if they were also unhappy with those guys as well. I always aim to please and work to a high standard. Unfortunately, it doesn't always go as planned. I hope they find someone to complete the work to their standards and speed.

Tony is wonderful!! Although my job was fairly small, he never forgot me and got his crew to my house as soon as possible. The two men who worked on my house, Jorge and Santos, are clearly extremely professional, polite, and worked continually for 2 days without a break! Their work obviously showed how much experience and education they have with regard to carpentry and remodeling work. I have shown pictures of the stages of work to another professional carpenter who was very impressed with their attention to detail. Working with Tony has been a great experience and we are hoping to have Jorge and Santos back in the near future for more work.

The response time to get the damaged ceiliubg repaired was quite fast. The crew took great care in keeping the debris isolated to the kitchen and coverered the appliances and cabinets. Very good craftsmnship and professionalism. I will continue to call Ratliff for my home emergency and remodel needs! Other than the quality work for a great price, I trust this contractor and that is huge!

We had an amazing experience with this contractor and all of his crew members. They are reliable and very punctual with their work. If I had to do another remodel I wouldn’t use anyone else! We have had fantastic results and I’ve not had to worry about a thing even when I’ve been unable to be around. If you are looking for an amazing contractor who is fair with his pricing, dependable and does amazing work you can’t go wrong with Ratliff Painting and Repair.

The crew was very polite, respectful and tidy. Their craftsmanship was superb. I appreciated that they used a vacuum during construction to keep the dust at a minimum. After the project was complete, they hauled away the old windows and cleaned up after themselves. We were, also, very pleased that our contractor, Tommy McAllister, checked in regularly to make sure the job was going well. My husband and I are very happy with our new windows and we would definitely hire them again for future projects.
Having used Tony Ratliff before, I knew who to call. His response was wonderful, quick, and convenient. His repairman (Juan) was a true gentleman and did a marvelous job. Tony was always checking on the progress and throwing himself into the job to make sure HE and I were satisfied. The end result was awesome! I would never hesitate to call on him again. His after service follow-up is also one of the many positives I would use to describe his approach to making sure the customer is completely satisfied. In the end my wife and I were totally satisfied with the result.

I'm the owner of Floors & Interiors in Whitehouse and Tyler, and I recently needed someone who could do repairs on a home of one of our customers. I've know and used Tony Ratliff on jobs and have found him to be very reliable and easy to work with. On this recent job he responded quickly and did a great job for the people. I'm always reluctant to recommend someone due to it being a reflection on me, however, I don't worry about that with Tony Ratliff.

Overall my husband and I have been very pleased! Tony has been very sweet and helpful with our situation and has worked with us on payment by allowing for us to pay per hours worked giving us the flexibility to do smaller jobs along side the larger jobs. Very professional workers and the quality is great! We've had multiple guys from his company work with us and we have been happy with all of them. Punctuality wasn't such a big deal for us because our jobs were small and random and we were pretty relaxed on timing, if you're needing strict punctuality verbalizing this to Tony and his crew would be all you need to do, they have all been very accommodating.

Excellent price & communication. Tony Ratliff lives right across the street from now for 10 years. He has been a big help with our home construction projects giving us advice on who to hire & what to look out for. Can see a post by someone else about Tony who is in our neighborhood & that person should know it is illegal to have pigs in the city limits plus I have called in when they are out & eating trash on the street. Don't know if the chickens are legal but that sure is a lot to ask a neighbor sharing a chain link fence to tolerate. Pigs & chickens good grief.

Tony answered my call for an estimate quickly. His painter did an excellent job painting my dining room and removing wall lamps and repairing the wall. I also had some termite damage by a window in the dining room which he repaired and it is perfect. I have used Ratliff many times over the past years and always call him first for any repairs inside or outside. His men have always been professional, quiet, and do an awesome job of clean up.

Tony was very friendly, comfortable to have in my home, knowledgeable, and efficienct. He got the work done and I'm happy to be able to get in and out of my home easier! My only complaint would be that he was not more clear on pricing. I'll ask beforehand next time for a clear quote before the work is done.

Response from Ratliff Painting & Repair
I appreciate the positive aspects of this review and am glad to have efficiently repaired the issues. I do, however, need to offer my own description of the work performed to provide a more accurate view of the repairs. This description should also suffice to show that the workload was well within a reasonable price range. I did repair 3 doors, but the homeowner failed to mention that one of the doors was missing a handle and the latch was stuck/lodged. I spent over an hour prying that latch loose. I basically had to dig that latch out with the door being stuck shut. It's also important to add that on the exterior door to the garage, the homeowner wanted a new handle and deadbolt, but there was no hole for a deadbolt. I had to cut a hole in that door which also took an hour to do. On the fan blade tightening that's mentioned here, I had to completely remove the light kit just to get access to the screws to tighten up that one blade. This, again, was time consuming. All in all, it was an entire day's work and a bit over $100 in materials. I was paid $250 labor for that day's work. That is very fair and reasonable pricing.

This was an investment property remodel/repair. We were in a time crunch to get the work done and Tony had his crew there the next week to work. They completed the work in 4 days. We were pleased with the quality of work. There were only two things we didn't get completed that were on the list but those were contracted out by Tony for completion so we are dependent on them to finish. He was always accessible by phone and desired to please. We would use him again.

Description of Work: Water damage from roof leaks and AC leaks
Tony and his painter Miguel did an outstanding job our kitchen island. It had a lot of detail to it and they were able to paint over the red & give it a whole new look!! Our entryway had old wallpaper which had been covered with very thick texture Miguel spend a whole day getting everything off the wall putting up new drywall & making it super flat and then painting it with the new color. we will definitely be using them again for other projects around the house. I highly recommend them and the cost was very reasonable A++ Tony also helped me find the paint so I could touch up some of the living room from a DIY project I tried to do myself around Christmas 🙈😂
