Description of Work: I contacted Tony about a total gut and bathroom remodel. He came out to look at the job within 24 hours of my call. I had an estimate about 5 days later. Tony took lots of time with me during the initial visit and walked me through the work that would be required. He was very knowledgeable and patient with me. It was a pleasant experience and I would not hesitate to call him in the future.

Description of Work: Hired to remove fence posts. Contractor cut fence posts at ground level and hammered sharp edges so that there would not be any sharp edges. Contractor then hauled off the material.

Description of Work: Installed crown molding, removed wallpaper, painted walls and ceiling, repaired seam in ceiling. Tony came soon after being called for estimate. Completed the work in a timely manner and am very pleased with completed work. He took the extra time and measures to look at and check other issues identified. Consulted another specialist when needed. Painter /worker Arnold did an excellant job. Thanks

Description of Work: Mr Ratliff provided carpenters and painters. The entire house was painted from ceiling to floor. The painter was excellent and did every thing to perfection throughout the entire house. Kitchen cabinets were removed and some were replaced with shelving. The microwave was buillt in were double ovens had previously been and cabinets w/doors and drawers were added in that floor to ceiling space. Slide out shelves were added in all the lower kitchen cabinets. Doors to the bathrooms and closets in master bedroom were replaced with ADA approved doors (for the disabled), new threshholds were made where all the new doors went in, grab bars were added. In the pantry existing shelves were removed and so was a sewing table top. New pantry shelves were built in where the sewing table top had been making a larger and more accessible pantry area. My only complaint is that instead of the three weeks it was originally supposed to take, it took three months. When we get our house all put back together it will be nice and much safer for my husband.

Response from Ratliff Painting & Repair
It is true that this job took much longer than it should have. The report does not go into detail as to why, so I would like to clarify that so that potential customers do not regard that as typical for my company. A couple months before this job, I hired a subcontractor from the Longview area who previously owned his own cabinetry/carpentry business. He was a skilled carpenter, but turned out to be a poor businessman with a lack of character and honesty. He created much havoc on the few jobs he was hired to work on. There are 3 jobs in particular that he basically turned upside down for me and I have spent countless hours and money making things right with the homeowners. Unfortunately, the member's job was one of those. The subcontractor did not show up to work when he said he would, always giving me an elaborate reason as to why he couldn't, and usually claimed he was dealing with "difficult homeowners" and said that's why he wasn't getting anywhere on the job. This was certainly not the case with the members. They are wonderful, gracious people who were very patient with me as I cleaned up this mess. After hearing complaints from a few homeowners about this particular subcontractor and then coupling those complaints with his continuous excuses, I did a little investigating of my own. It turns out he has a history of not completing jobs and has had formal complaints filed on him before. He also has an F rating with the BBB, as well as other legal and criminal charges. I am currently pursuing my own charges against him for draws he took off jobs but never completed the work. He was also asking for money from the homeowners (claiming I had given him permission to do so) and then turning around and asking for draws from me. One thing all homeowners need to know is when you hire a contractor, that is who you pay. Unless it is established beforehand in writing, you never pay the subs or laborers. That is the what the contractor is for. It is the contractor's job to protect the homeowner, so if a sub doesn't do his job, the contractor has lost money, not the homeowner. When his background and proof of his lack of character/integrity came to light, I immediately banned him from ever stepping foot on another job of mine. Because of this, I had to start from scratch and find new subs in the Longview area to complete the job. I did the best I could to make this right by themembers and it is top priority for me to protect my homeowners. It has been said that reputation is built not by all the things you do right, but by how you handle the things that go wrong. Hopefully the way this was handled spoke highly of my character. I regret ever hiring this subcontractor and will definitely do a better job getting references on new subs in the future. I have subs I have used for years and I trust their character and workmanship completely. Sadly, there are always a few bad apples in the bunch and I happened to hire one of them. In 25 years of owning my own business, this was the first time I had to deal with an issue like this. I hope potential customers will see that this was an isolated event and not an accurate representation of the quality of work I deliver.

Description of Work: This is the second time Tony's men have painted for us. Each time has been great. His men are meticulous, punctional, and totally professional. They were always on time and left each day at the same time. They are very organized, neat, and do wonderful work. Before they painted our master bedroom and this time they painted a large living room, entry way and a couple of hallways, up a staircase and upstairs hallway. The living room and entry way have the very tall ceilings up to the 2nd floor. And all these areas have tons of crown molding that the painters had to work around. I have not seen one speck of the paint on the white crown molding--this is amazing to me. The walls before had a faux finish on them and not a good look and now the walls look great and neat and clean. Love the look!!! My husband and I would definately use Tony again and again.

Description of Work: Ratliff Painting & Repair just finished painting the exterior trim of our brick home. Their crew was meticulous and the owner (Tony) pointed out what needed to be done and where past painter had gotten a bit sloppy. We are very happy with their work and have asked them to do some interior painting work next.
