Les was a true professional. He was able to do the work a week after our initial estimate. We ended up leaving him alone to do the work and had no concerns about leaving a stranger in our house. He was able to call my wife and let her know when someone needed to be home so that the door could remain open and dry. We were leaving town that day, and he was able to accommodate us by taping the door frame so that the finish would not be ruined in case we needed to close the door before it was completely dry. His instructions at all times were clear and detailed. The door looks beautiful again, nicer than when we moved in. The wood is repaired like new, and the door hangs properly and opens and closes easily. The entire experience went as well as it possibly could, and we would recommend them again.

I called and left a message asking if they could help me fix my entry door that wasn't opening and closing properly. Matt called back first thing in the morning to let me know that unfortunately they didn't offer those services as a company, but he could recommend the someone at the Door Repair Co. and gave me his number, said to call if I had any questions. I REALLY appreciate the referral, and it was excellent customer service that he responded so quickly even though I can't use his services. I will definitely call them when I need some help with my garage door!! Great experience!

They were early and my door looks better than it did when I moved in. They performed the work exactly as described. They also warned me about things I may or may not like in advance so that I would have the choice to continue. Great job.

The company completely refinished the door at the end of April in 2010 for $329.95. I think I neglected to do a report back then. The whole process took several hours with the door opened and I was very pleased so I am on their regular yearly maintenance schedule. This year it took very little time to do the maintenance so I though the price was perhaps a little high, but I will likely stay on so the door never gets in the bad shape it was in before the initial refinishing. By sticking with the same company I assume that they will continue the same quality of materials and service.

Joe showed up on time and began to work. He is a "measure twice, cut once" sort of person, which makes for a quality fit.

They do a quality job. What I don’t like is that they want you to sign a contract with them for long term maintenance. They will come and refinish your door without you being here. If you don’t respond to cancel it, they would send you a bill. The job they did was fine. They did a good job. They were very professional.

The door looks fabulous! I had set up an appointment and the day before , the office called me to tell me who would be coming and at what time. Dawn came as promised right on time that day. She was professional and knowledgeable, as well as very nice. After checking the door, which looked absolutely awful!, she told us that we actually didn't need a full refinish and that a thorough maintenance-level redo would be sufficient (and in the process save us a fair bit of money). It helped that our door has a northern exposure and is protected from rain by the front porch. This honest appraisal was very much appreciated. As Dawn was the expert, we agreed to let her do her job as she thought best. We did not regret it! She explained in detail what she would be doing, what materials she would be using, how long it would take her, and what we needed to do to let the finish dry properly once she had left. Less than two hours after she started she was done. In response to our questions about it, Dawn also offered us help with the lock (an antique). As I said above, the door truly looks like new! Thank you so much! And Dawn, we will follow up on your advice on the various other issues we talked about concerning the front entrance!

The door refinishing worker arrived at our house promptly at the appointment time. He advised us as to how the job would be done, and answered our questions regarding the procedure. As he prepared to start the job, he carefully covered all the work area with cloth to handle any dropped materials, etc. At the end of his job, we were amazed at how nice the refinished door looked. It was BETTER than the original finish. We are so please with the outcome!

Contacted the Door Finishing Company both by phone and email and never received a call or email back. This is a basic in customer service and I feel if they have so much business that they cannot return a phone call or email I need to look for another company to give my business to.

Oh my. I have been a steady customer of this company (Angie's List please verify so you know this is a true statement) of this company for over 5 years (probably closer to 7). I have used them to refinish my door and I have also been on the automatic maintenance program where they stop by a few times a year. I have never had any problems at all, and the quality has always been flawless. A few weeks ago I installed new hardware on the door and now I need a refinish. I installed Medeco locks which are the best ($250 a deadbolt) which were professionally installed by a locksmith so I didn't want to remove them, but instead just tape them up and work around them. Dawn explained the job may not be as good since as when all the hardware is removed, to which I agreed, and stated I understood and had no problems. After all, during maintenance no hardware is removed - all hardware is taped over anyway, so this shouldn't be a big deal - right? Wrong! The tech shows up on time, I explain that he can remove the handleset, but I want the deadbolt taped over just like Dawn and I discussed. His response was, "... let's get real ...", (huh? aren't I the customer? since when did my boss care how easy my job was? I get paid to do the work!), to which I replied Dawn and I had already gone over this and I understood and agreed the door may not look as good and the lock may get scratched during the sanding process, but I was ok with it. If anything the guy should have simply had me sign a release form stating he wasn't responsible for the lock. But to use language like, "... let's get real ...", since when do you talk to customers like that? Ahhh, now the truth comes out -- as we suspected an employee would never talk like that for fear of being reported to the boss and fired. After I tell this guy this isn't the way to treat a customer, much less in this economy, and that I've been a good customer for over 5 years, and on the maintenance program, apparently none of this matters, because a few minutes later the guy - named Don - says, "I am the owner of the g*d d*mned company." What?! You think you're going to stand on my front door and cuss at me? I don't care how long I have been a customer, or how great the work has always been, or how I have never had any glitches with this company. I told Don, "the owner" he could %$#* @#$ and to leave. Who needs that crap? Shortly after this I spoke with Dawn at the main office and had her take my account off the maintenance program. I thanked her for the years of wonderful service. There are two sides to every story and I hope The Door Refinishing Company is allowed to respond to this report. I hope they post how many years I have been a loyal customer. I hope Don explains what I did that set him off. I hope Don explains why he saw the need to cuss at me on my property. Nuff said. It's a drag to lose a company that did a good job, but who needs to support an owner like that when the rest of us are just hoping we don't get laid off next week.

Punctual, courteous and professional in every respect. My only quibble would be that the finish looks a little thin (like it could have used another coat of varnish), but it is acceptable and looks good, and I'm not sure they could have applied another coat and still finish on the same day. Will use again and do recommend. UPDATE: on seeing my report on Angie's List, the company called to thank me for entering the report, and then insisted on coming out and applying another coat, at their expense! This was done very promptly and well. Very impressive dedication and service! Will definitely use them again.

From the time I called to inquire about their services to the last time Les and company came out to the house they were polite, on time, accurate in what they said and did, hard working, they spent hours on the back door installing and doing a new door jam to fit the door. They did their extensive work in three days. Came by when they said they would and left when they said they were going to be done. I would recommend them to anyone. Was very helpful and accessible when I had questions about my new locks after the work was done.

They were very careful to identify themselves. They made sure that they were marked and that I knew the names of the people that were coming. They did a really good job of explaining the entire process and how long it would take and what they were going to be doing and what I needed to do. I didn't compare prices.

I cannot say enough good about this company. When I called for information I spoke to a lady who was very personable and professional. She gave me all sorts of details about their door refinishing process and the steps involved, including the things that the company does to mitigate dust and chemical fumes. When I told her we were thinking about also replacing the hardware she gave me lots of tips and pointers, so we were able to do that ourselves the day before the refinishing. I made an appointment for the refinishing, then called her back the next day to ask about doing both sides of the doors. She quoted me another price and said no problem to expand the scope of work if I wanted. On the day before my appointment the office called to reconfirm and even told me the technician's name and what kind of vehicle he would be driving. I was impressed by this sensitivity to security. On the day of my appointment, Nick showed up ~15 minutes early and spent quite a bit of time discussing the scope of work. He looked at the back side of the door and suggested that he could do some minor touch up to avoid a full refinishing job. He did that and I was very happy with the results so we agreed that he would only refinish the front side of the door. He made sure that we knew what he was doing at every step along the way, and he spent quite a bit of time with me on color-consultation. He had a huge assortment of stain colors available to choose from, and he was able to share his experience in terms of how each color typically reacts with the type of wood my door is made of. In summary, Nick showed up at 7:45 am, laid lots of tarps on the floor, taped over the glass window, and tacked a plastic tarp over the front door hole. He made some minor repairs to the molding which had begun to warp, removed the hardware, then applied a chemical stripping agent to the existing stain. He stripped and sanded the door, then asked me to pick a shade of stain. He applied the stain, then applied 3 coats of varnish over the course of the afternoon. (He took advantage of the time between coats to go to lunch, etc.) After the 3rd coat of varnish he cleaned everything up and gave me very detailed instructions about how to let the varnish dry, etc. He finished sometime between 3-4 pm and told me not to close the door until at least 8 pm. (He left the tarp tacked up over the door hole.) He also gave me instructions about HOW to close the door to minimize the chance of it sticking. The instructions worked perfectly and I now have a beautiful front door. I would not hesitate to use this company again and would give them A+'s if I could.

Estimate was too high. But, Matt was really NICE and professional. I would recommend others to check out his services.

The quality of work is very high. The punctuality is great. The only areas for improvement are in the cost and the change in process to inform the client at least a week ahead of the work that the work is about to be performed.

Workers arrived on time and prepared for the job. The front door was opened and the doorway covered with heavy plastic and sealed while the door was being re-finished. Clean-up was excellent and what ever they used to re-finish the door had no lingering odor. The door opened with out sticking so they didn't do a rush job and close it while the finish was still tacky. My husband and I were pleasantly impressed from start to finish.
