We hired Seek Design to remodel our master bathroom and couldn't be more pleased with the result. The remodel included a new tile floor, shower with pony wall, tub, countertop, painting of the cabinets, walls and ceiling as well as new fixtures, mirrors and lights. Seek provided excellent communication, keeping us informed of next steps and timelines on this complex effort. The remodel came in on schedule and the cost matched the quotes provided. We highly recommend Seek Design and Renovation.

We selected Seek Design and Renovation to repair our home after it sustained damage in the February freeze and power outage this year. They quickly repaired the pipes and restored our water. Don and his team did an exceptional job of restoring our home. His work and communication set them apart from others. We highly recommend Seek Design.

The good news is the old bathrooms that leaked are replaced. As long as you're not picky, don't look any closer. First of all, we like Don. He was always responsive and went out of his way on more than a few occasions. Master bathroom: The scope included demo of existing his/her vanities, shower, jacuzzi tub, floor tile, toilet, mirrors, light fixtures, and baseboards. The old shower stall was to be capped off and closed up to make room for extra drawers / storage. The old jacuzzi was turned into a larger shower space. Demo was quick. The plumber did a quick job of moving the drain for the new shower and getting the shower valve installed. We would find out later that the hot and cold water was swapped. The plumber came back and was able to turn the cartridge around so the handle operated as expected. The toilet was also set unlevel and the plumber came back to fix it. The electrician was also very quick and efficient with his work. We bought lighted mirrors so we got receptacles added to the walls where the new vanities would be installed. He made his best guess on location based on the installation diagrams showing the back of the mirror. It turned out the outlets would have been better placed an inch or two higher, but I can't fault him for that since his work was done immediately after demo before anything else was installed. The shower glass guys were great. They took their measurements and made sure to understand what we wanted as far as color (brushed nickel), the handle, and any accessories. When it came time for it to be installed there were no issues and they were efficient with their time. The cabinet guys were mostly good. They took measurements and everything fit in the given space. They drilled holes for the plumbing to give the inside the cleanest look and it fit exactly. The medicine cabinet doors were forgotten, but they brought those a couple days later. The chest of drawers in the big vanity were not equal in size as discussed. The bottom two drawers are the same size, while the top drawer is smaller. This was not brought up with Don as everything was already built and it was too far into construction. The granite countertop guys were great as well. They are a perfect example of the adage "measure twice, cut once." The countertops, sinks, and faucets fit perfectly. They said they would be back to seal the countertops when the guest bathroom countertops were put in but they needed to be sealed ASAP before the guest bathroom was to be started. Don understood this without saying and took the initiative to get granite sealer and cleaner from Lowes. Tile started out okay. We decided on a way to arrange the tile that would look best. We picked a nice blue/light brownish wood look tile. We weren't asking to pre-place tiles and nitpick placement, but to be strategic when pulling the next tile out (place brown on brown and blue on blue). The next day, the tile foreman said we can't do what we decided and he had said was okay just the day before, because we would run out of tile and it would take "too long". This didn't seem right. The tile foreman was rarely there and when he was, he was late. He also developed an attitude that we couldn't explain. His crew was good and followed the pattern we talked about and moved quickly. One guy completed most of the wall tile in one day. The next day, the tile foreman did the tile inside the shower space himself and took almost all day (how did the other guy finish more square footage while following the pattern if it would be "too slow" to consider?). The tiles were not arranged like we talked about and if you looked at it for two seconds it would be obvious. It seemed he was purposefully doing whatever he wanted to do. The day after that he wasn't here and his crew redid the tiles that were out of place. The shower niche was another example of the tile foreman being petty. We weren't sure about using the pebbles that were used for the shower floor as the backsplash and he suggested using the tile, but run vertically to contrast the horizontal tile. Great idea. We agreed. To separate the two niche compartments, he suggested using two pieces of tile sandwiched together as the shelf. We also agreed with that. They polished the tile edges for the shelf and it looked great. Later on after their job was completed, he said he didn't know why we did it that way. It was his suggestion! Additionally, the tile grout was supposed to be 3/16". When looking at the grout lines it is clear it is not 3/16" in all locations or straight. It ranges from slightly less than 3/16" to almost 5/16". When this was brought up to Don, he only pointed out that spacers were used. That's great because it's true they were used, but when the spacers are loose between tiles, that means that the space between is NOT 3/16". When the second tile contractor was here for the guest bathroom he pointed out that for this specific tile he would have done 1/8" grout lines and it made my thoughts validated. Note that Don said he will NOT use these tilers in the future. The worst for last... Painting of the new vanities was horrible. What we thought would surely be the easiest thing after experiencing the bumpiness of the tile installation turned out to be ridiculous. The vanities were unpainted from the cabinet supplier. The vanities were to be sprayed on site. I will never have this done again. I'm not sure if this is a normal thing, and if it isn't I'm not sure why it was done this way. Aside from the smell of the primer and paint (expected), the paint crew got paint literally everywhere in the bathroom (not expected). There was overspray on the new baseboards, all over the wall, on the new tile, and even splatter on the ceiling. After inspecting the cabinets the first time after the top coat was applied, it was clear another coat was needed. The paint crew came back the next day and sanded the cabinets and drawers to apply another coat. They sanded inside the house which caused a lot of extra dust. We also pointed out that nail holes had not been covered up and were still visible. They hadn't filled the holes before the primer coat was applied. We also had requested the new hardware be removed before painting, but they taped everything up and Don assured us it would be okay. After inspection of the second coat of paint the vanities and drawers still looked bad. There were bubbles in the paint, streaks, and more overspray. Don asked us to let him take care of it. The explanation given was they were not used to using that color of paint - a professional painter that only paints whites and grays apparently. Another day of sanding with more painting followed, with a new spray nozzle. It honestly still looked bad after another application of paint and that was enough. They had to go and were not welcomed back. Don was kind enough to paint the walls and ceiling to cover up all their overspray (on his time - not included in quote) and attempted to fix up the vanities and drawers. Once the tape was removed from the vanity doors and drawers, it was clear paint was everywhere on the hardware (soft-close hinges and slides). Don stated performance would not be affected. True, but let's say you buy a new car and have the color changed for whatever reason. When the car comes back with its new paint, there's splatter / paint on the rims. The car still technically works right, but are you happy? We ended up unscrewing every hinge and slide and rubbing them with acetone to get the paint off, which took multiple nights to do. One of the cabinet guys that came back to install the forgotten medicine cabinet doors saw the painted cabinets and asked who did them (he immediately noticed how bad they were). He asked if we liked it and the answer is a definite no. Note that Don said he will NOT use these painters anymore. The master bathroom was "finished" in February (started January - not bad timewise), but we still do not have our toiletries and other bathroom stuff placed away in the new storage / drawers. We are currently (mid-March) sanding and scraping away layers of paint ourselves on the drawers to attempt to fix what the painters messed up. I honestly want to throw the drawers out. We hate them. The drawers were otherwise sitting out in the hallway while the guest bathroom was being completed. The paint also scratches very easily. I can't imagine what the inside of the drawers would look like after being filled up with toiletries and accessories. I brushed the back of my hand across the face of one of the drawers to brush some dust away from sitting out and my nails marked the drawer face. Guest bathroom: The scope included demo of the existing floor tile, bath tub surround tile, bath tub, vanity, mirror, vanity light, and toilet. A new tub was to be installed along with new floor and tub surround tile. What was a single sink vanity was to be a dual sink vanity for the two kids. Two new lighted mirrors and a new vanity light fixture rounded out the rest of the plans. Demo again was quick. The plumber did a good quick job with the new drain and shower valve. It turned out a second set of pipes was not needed to be installed because there already was pipe installed for a second sink and the previous owner had changed something at some point in time and had those lines capped. After completion of final plumbing (toilet / sink faucets / bathtub faucet/showerhead) while cleaning up, it was found that the toilet bolt caps were loosely laid on top of the bolts. The piece to hold the cap in place is not installed currently. The tile behind the tub faucet is also cracked - I assume from putting the faucet on. I did not notice this until a few days ago. I honestly don't even want to bother calling to get that fixed considering the whole experience. The electrician did a great job of installing the new receptacles for the lighted mirrors and minimized the amount of sheetrock cut into. The cabinet guys were good again. When we took the drawers out to clean them up from the dust, we found a pile of sawdust underneath the drawers in the vanity that should have been cleaned up. The chest of drawers in the vanity were again not equal in size as discussed. The bottom two drawers are the same size, while the top drawer is smaller, similar to what was done in the master bathroom. This was not brought up with Don as everything was already built and I felt pretty defeated by then. The granite countertop guys were great again as well. They measured and it fit perfectly the first time. They also sealed the countertop right away. Tile went a lot smoother in general compared to the master bathroom. Don made sure we would not have the same tile contractor doing the tile work. In looking at the tile after completion, cut tile is incredibly jagged in places and looks bad. The tile guys came back and added grout, but it looked worse -- both caked-on grout and jagged tile cuts. Don offered nothing to fix it other than sanding the grout so now we will look at this bathroom and see the jagged tile. Also odd with this tile installation was their request for two more boxes of tile as they were getting closer to the end. We calculated about 100 square feet (raw number) of tile required for the floor and bathtub. We bought 130 square feet (per the quote which included contingency). They were adamant about us getting two more boxes of tile to finish (another 32 square feet). So essentially they were planning on 60% cut and waste? That is ridiculous. Don was kind enough to drive to floor and decor and provide (bought himself) the extra two boxes of tile they requested. At the end there were 6 tiles left (12 square feet) which means they had 50% cut and waste. Using the quoted square footage of 130 square feet (which already included cut/waste), they used an additional 15% above that. Painting was done at the cabinet shop before the cabinets were installed. They looked much better and the cabinet box was completely painted unlike the master bathroom cabinets. A painter came a couple days later to do some touch-up work that we noticed. He mentioned it was none of his business, but the cabinets in the master bathroom should have been taken care of without us having to do anything. I agree, but I felt dismissed and gave up. General notes: Don is great at planning and had everyone here in the right order that they needed to be, which is something I can't begin to imagine I could have done correctly. If I could go back in time, I would make sure the cabinets were painted at the cabinet shop instead of on location for the master bathroom. Also, I would make sure caulking of all tile joints was included (and cleanup). I just went over all right angles in the master bathroom shower with silicone caulk as the grout has already cracked on the floor and pulled away from the window. The guest bathroom tiler had mentioned in conversation that it should be done and I agreed after seeing the cracks in the grout already. He also mentioned that cracked grout doesn't mean it wasn't done correctly - it just happens from expansion / contraction - hence the need for caulk. After a while it felt like we were being overly picky based on the answers given to our concerns. Take a look at the pictures and ask yourself if you would be happy with the work. I wish I could attach more than 10. I don't think we were unreasonable for asking about details to be fixed for the expense. I wouldn't rate the overall job as "bad" (D per Angies list) as it honestly wasn't completely bad. I also would not rate the overall job "good" (B per Angies List) as the bathrooms aren't still 100% functional and it definitely was not "great". "Fair" is about right.

I have had two projects done by Seek Design and Renovation. Both were done on the schedule we went over and with high-quality. Their people show up on time, use facial coverings, are friendly, and go out of their way to do a good job. Half my house has been touched by them at this point and they've done the best work of any remodeling company I've worked with, which has been several. I will be happy to use them again.

We recently had Seek Design and Renovation replace the backsplash in the kitchen and completely redo our island. Words cannot explain how happy we are with the results. They take great pride in what his business offers. From everything we thought of conceptually, the design and finished product was easy with his process. Whenever a problem occurred we were contacted immediately to talk through it with them so we would not surpass our budget. His team was very professional and when things didn't go as planned they helped give pointers on what designs would work best. We were sent to a vendor who was very knowledgeable and walked us through every decision without trying to rush us out the door. The kitchen looks so much brighter and bigger with the changes we made. The attention to detail and building exactly what we wanted was unmatched. I would highly recommend this company to anyone seeking home renovations. They are awesome and get the job done quickly, Thank you doesn’t seem like enough to this company.

We've used Seek Design & Renovation for bathroom remodels at two different houses. The first project involved removing an acrylic shower and replacing it with a tiled shower. The second project involved building a new shower (with seamless glass door), installing granite countertops and tiling the area above the bathtub. Seek did a great job on both projects. The price was reasonable and both jobs were finished quicker than I expected. We will definitely use Seek if we have another renovation project in the future.

Seek Design & Renovation workmanship was outstanding Out of four bids requesting to add four walls and doors to isolate our staff from the main hallways and customers Seek Design & Renovation was selected. The renovation required adding two walls and two doors on both the first and second floor of our main front office. It also required opening two other doorways to allow better access within the departments. They arrived at our facility when they said they would. Their personnel were very professional and knowledgeable on what was required of them. They did a great job of Framing, Sheetrocking, Painting and Installing the new doors. At the end of each day they did an outstanding job of cleaning up before leaving the job site. We look forward to us them again as the need arises here at our site. I also would highly recommend them on building and/or performing renovation at either home or office.

We worked with Seek & Design on a large home update and remodel. Their team members worked diligently for several months. Everyone was easy to work with even when we made changes along the way. They were reassuring during the process that we'd end with exactly what we asked to be done, down to the smallest detail. Seek & Design was reasonably priced, very responsive and customer focused. We now have a beautiful home!

Hired Seek Design & Renovations for a kitchen remodel project in February 2020. They did so well on our upstairs bathroom remodel in January that we went back to them for our kitchen project. For our kitchen we had purchased the new cabinets from another source which Seek worked with us in scheduling around that work. Seek also helped us on short notice to fix some electrical issues that were not related to their scope. Seek gave us many options when selecting the tile and countertops. The project manager was very friendly and very responsive. He quickly responded to all questions and concerns, and ensured that we were pleased with the results. I would definitely recommend Seek to others and would use them again on future project.

This October I gave a call to several contractors to come over and give me a bid on some flooring projects as well as a complete remodel of our master bathroom. I ended up going with not only the best bid of the 3, but also the contractor that I felt most comfortable with from the start. Seek Design sent a representative who had more product knowledge and professionalism than the two other highly-rated contractors from which I received bids in The Woodlands area. Seek Design gave me an offer with a timetable for the project that they stuck to. They were prompt, professional, and most important, the quality of the work that they did was the best that I’ve had done on my home that has been nearly completely remodeled at this point. I do have a few jobs left to do on my home before I have it just the way I want it. I regret that I didn’t find them earlier for some of the work as it either took too long or didn’t come out just how I wanted it, but for sure I will be reaching out to Seek Design for the rest of the upgrades that I want to do. I’d advise you to do the same, you won’t be sorry for giving them a chance to bid on your project.

************The review is bit long, but for your protection please bear with me and read it through. ************ 1. ************************ Promise for high quality work and pressure to sign the contract: We were looking for a good contractor who could help us with our bathroom remodel. Don Prine with Seek Design & Renovation came and was eager to get the job. Due to previous bad experience we had great concern about the quality of the work (especially the tile work) and out of caution were very hesitant to commit to any company too quickly. He seemed sincere and promised good quality using popular commercial phrase to convince us and guaranteeing that we would be happy about their work. He bragged about his experience and their rating on Angie’s List. He also promised to finish the job in two weeks and then pressured us by saying that to meet the schedule we must sign that day. He also promised that they had a designer to help us. 2. ************************ Bad start: During our initial meeting we made clear that the tile work and design is the biggest challenge and we wanted to meet the tile guy as soon as possible. He promised that he would bring the tile guy to talk to us. On the first day, Don started the work without informing us about his plans. He brought several of his people except the tile guy. When I asked him, he kept saying that I need to let him to do his job. We had a big argument. 3. ************************ Strange communication rules: He didn’t want us to communicate with his workers at all. We could not check their work or ask any questions. Every time we talked or asked questions with his workers, they immediately informed him and then he called us angrily. He claimed that his expectation for his workers was to get it right the first time, but rather than monitor and correct mistakes, he defended their poor work. We were put in the position of getting an angry response if we pointed out something amiss, or having to put up with poor quality work. His poor communication skills made it very hard to work with him. Even his workers agreed that this was my house, and that I had the right to do things the way I wanted. 4. ************************ Fake Design claim: The name of the company (Seek Design) and the claim that they have a designer was misleading. They don’t have any professional designer. It turns out the designer is a woman in their office who is good at fashion (per Don). Don also claimed that he can design. I finally planned to have some professional to help us design the shower room tile pattern after I understood that they didn’t have any competent people to do it. He sent the people to start to work on the tile without our permission and a proper plan. The day before he argued and yelled for several hours and did not come up with anything that was proper. It was a nightmare to work with him. My husband finally asked him to step aside and let me and tile guy work together to finalize the accent wall tile. With the input from the designer I hired, the tile guy we got the design done in 20 minutes. 5. ************************ The unprofessional tile guy. They didn’t let us to watch the process and we ended up with an off-center floor tile layout and unmatched grout lines (See picture 1and 2). Although they finally redid the floor after we insisted, the shampoo niche was not level and it has to be redone. 6. ************************ The Incompetent Painter: Don promised us a quality job, but the result is anything but quality. Although his painter was a nice guy, he did not have the skill and the knowledge to produce quality work. For each job he tried many times and could not get it right. One time he even came to me telling me what strange things happened when he was texturing. (See picture 3 one of many poor quality examples) Another time he painted a wall without realizing that there were bubbles in the skim coat and an untextured patch until he finished painting (See picture 4) I have had several companies come in to bid to finish the work. They were all stunned to see what a terrible job we have gotten. 7. ************************ Wall damage: His painter damaged the wall in an adjacent room while he was taking down a shelf. The noise was so loud that I thought he was going to hammer the house down. We were not allowed to interfere with him. As a result the wall was bowed and has several cracks in it and several nail pops. (See pictures 5 and 6). They did not repair it. 8. ************************ Incompetent cabinet people: His cabinet people replaced the cabinet hinges with hidden hinges. Many of the doors would not close properly and some fell off in our hands when we tried to open them. They made three failed attempts to fix them and finally gave up, falsely claiming that the doors were warped even though the doors did not have problems previously. Tests with a straight edge showed that they were not warped. They left the job unfinished. (See pictures 7 and 8). 9. ************************ Rude and disrespectful to customers: We knew what we wanted and had high expectations. Every time we expressed our concerns, Don did not listen and was always defensive. He argued and bragged about how many years of experience he had. Many times when I tried to talk to him, he said, “I will talk to him (my husband), but not to you!” My husband had to remind him to lower his voice all the time. When he did not listen, I was very frustrated and raised my voice to him, and then he claimed that it upset the workers and that his people bad mouthed me. 10. ************************ Cutting corners in many ways: For example: (a) To avoid adding a header they wanted to set the shampoo niche off center. (b) They did not put any protection on the floor until we finally asked. Even then, we had to repeat the request but never got adequate protection. (See picture 9) (c) They did not prepare the existing floor and did not put adequate underlayment on the floor prior to tiling. Now we have loud squeaking coming from the floor. We have to hire someone to take the whole floor up again to fix the problem and the tile that we used has been discontinued. (d) They did not prepare the wall backer board properly. Now the grout at corner and edge of the tub has started to crack after a couple of months. We have not used the bathroom at all.(See picture 10) (e) He tried to use his painter to do the carpentry work. We had to hire a professional to finish the work since the painter did not have the required skill 11. ************************ For the sake of the customers: My understanding is that if this is way they conduct their business, there is no way they would get the ratings in Angie’s list. If I was the only customer to receive this poor quality, I want to know why! It is Angie’s List obligation to investigate those reviews because the reality and what are in the ratings are too far apart. The experience with Seek Design was pure misery! RESPONSE TO COMPANY RESPONSE: 1. Seek Design did bid a job earlier, but we re-bid the job later due to changes in scope. It was not the job originally bid. 2. At the meeting where Mr Prine submitted the current bid, he was extremely pushy. We asked for time to consider, but he refused and insisted that we needed to sign that day while promising exceptional quality results and guaranteeing that we would be happy. There was certainly no “reluctance” on his part. 3. There were some loud disagreements with Mr Prine, not the workers, as a result of Mr Prine trying to force his ideas on us instead of listening to our desires. 4. We had high expectations and that was expressed to him up front and due to past experience, we were very concerned about quality. 5. There were never three previous contractors as he claimed, but there was some previous work done. Mr Prine himself commented on how bad it was. We did not bring in other contractors, but we did bring in a designer and a carpenter for services he could not adequately provide. (He used a painter as a carpenter.) 6. My wife even went out of her way to buy lunch and cook lunches for the workers. 7. The pictures we submitted, with the exception of the floor tile and the carpet protection, are of the job as they left it - what he claims was "completed work", not during the process. 8. Mr Prine was the most difficult person I have dealt with in my years as an executive in the oil industry - over-bearing, obstructionist, high tempered, and pushy. He promised a quick job completion with exceptional quality is why we selected him, but this was a major mistake.

Response from Seek Design & Renovation
Yes, there are 2 sides to every story, which in this case is extremely different. We had originally done a free estimate for her almost 4 years earlier on August 25, 2015 and she finally decided to call us back to do the work on July 22, 2019. We were very hesitant to do this job as she had told us that she had already “kicked off” 3 other contractors that had done work for her in the past. We reluctantly decided to move forward. Upon the start until the end of the work we did for her she was extremely difficult to work with. She continually changed her mind on what she wanted done, hired other contractors to come onto the job site and yelled at our team constantly. We handled this horrible behavior very professionally and did quality work for her. The photos that are posted are before & during photos of the job site & do not represent our work or the finished product. Unfortunately, we are not able to post the finished photos of our work to this response as Angie’s List is not able to add photos to review responses from the Pro’s. We went above and beyond for this client and tried to satisfy her on every level but unfortunately you can’t please everyone all the time.

Seek Design & Renovation completed a partial bathroom remodel by replacing the old outmoded tub and shower that was installed by the builder. Don Prine is the principal contact for all our work and he was very responsive to every request and concern throughout the process. The initial quote was a detailed line item listing of each step to be completed and the final number was competitive with other quotes I received. Co-ordination with subcontractors was very orderly and we were always advised when they would be arriving and what they were expected to accomplish every day. Don was present most days to monitor the work progress and update what was to occur the next day. Completion of our project was completed sooner than promised. Overall we are pleased with the final outcome and would not hesitate to use SDR again for any future projects

Recently Seek Design & Renovation remodeled our master bathroom. This is the second bathroom remodel job that Seek Design & Renovation has done for us. This bathroom was remodeled twice before by other contractors and was never done to our liking. I can tell you, it was overdue for remodeling the right way. The tub and shower stall were taken back down to the bare studs and completely rebuilt. The old tub was removed and replaced with a drop-in tub. A custom-made stand had to be constructed for the tub and the tub fit like a glove. The shower stall was redone with custom niches in the wall to accommodate soap, shampoo, etc. A custom-made cabinet was built to our specifications and installed. The cabinet was constructed with amazing precision. The cabinet top is a piece of Quartzite that we picked out and it looks very elegant. The old floor tile was replaced with porcelain tile throughout the bathroom and walk-in closet. The bedroom, bathroom and walk-in closet walls/ceilings were repainted. A special mention goes to the tile man. He is an absolute perfectionist. The bathroom looks amazing. Turnaround time for this project was about 4 weeks. Seek Design & Renovation came highly recommended from a friend that had his whole house remodeled by them. They were very easy to work with and had helpful suggestions during the design process that was greatly appreciated. They got the bid out to us very quickly and we thought it was very reasonable. One of the things that sticks out is how Seek Design & Renovation orchestrated the scheduling of the various crafts so that no one was waiting on another. Each time that a craft was about to arrive, I got a phone call or text as to their arrival time. In my opinion Communication is the key element to making a project like this run smoothly and Seek Design & Renovation accomplished this with the utmost efficiency. If you have a remodeling project in your future, I highly recommend talking to Seek Design and Renovation for the job. Dennis F
