+ -1 moreVery helpful with initial choice of window. Another visit for precise measurements. Actual window installation was about 2-3 weeks later. I was kept informed throughout and the window replacement involved almost no disruption and no mess was left. One window had been mismeasured and a new one had to be reordered and fitted 2 weeks after the original ones but this was taken care of with no fuss and no payment was requested until the work was fully completed. I am very happy with the windows and was most impressed with the company and their personnel.

+ -1 moreThey are supposed to be really good, but they gave us an estimate without looking at some of the key areas we were specifically asking about. He didn't ask any questions or measure a thing, he was only here about 15 minutes and in my back yard for less than 5 minutes. We asked for 3 comparison reports for our home and different areas of it, but they only gave us one quote with no additional information. It was as if he just scribbled down a number. When they gave us the quote someone knocked on my door, handed me a folder and left without really saying anything. They were not exactly punctual either. The service may be more about the employee than about the whole company, but I was definitely expecting better from them.

+ -1 moreThe representative was late arriving for our consultation. She measured the house and said she would call to arrange a time to go over the estimate with me. A couple weeks went by before I heard from her again. We made an appointment to meet at my house to review the estimate. She seemed disorganized as she was explaining the hand-written estimate to me. I felt pressured to commit to hiring Allied. The representative asked a lot of personal questions that seemed only marginally relevant. I had great difficulty getting through to her that I was not ready to commit because I was still reviewing bids from other companies and I had to discuss everything with my fiancee. I finally got her to leave but she continued to hound me by phone for weeks. I eventually stopped taking her calls yet she persisted and left a lot of voice messages. This came across as desperation. Another company I called had a neatly-printed bid in my hand about an hour after arriving on time to take measurements. He made ONE follow-up call and seemed understanding when I said I had decided to do the work myself because I hadn't realized how expensive it was to hire a contractor to do the work for me. He said that if I got in over my head or changed my mind, he would be happy to give me a new bid to finish the work. These two companies had completely opposite approaches and I definitely did not favor Allied's approach.

+ 0 moreExcept for one incident, very well. Very pleasant experience working with Sales Rep. Jay Mayfield to come to terms on a very good selection for the windows and competitive price. Work started on time and proceeded very well. Their crew was lead by a very capable and friendly foreman. The only incident was a mixup on the Dining Room picture window. It was the wrong size (much smaller) and Allied wanted more money for the larger window. The mistake was their's and the incremental increase in cost was relatively nominal but found the attempt to pass along the cost by their Tomball Office rude and offensive. (May have been related to stress from Hurricane Ike damage to their facilities.) Ultimately their President Leonard Courtright got involved and the matter was resolved very fairly and quickly.
Description of Work: Replaced windows (with Simonton Generations) and siding and trim (with Hardie Board).

+ -1 moreOver all it went very well. We had a little problem at the beginning. They set up an appointment to come on a Saturday and we had something come up on the day so my husband had to stay home and wait on them while the rest of us left. Then they called 15 minutes before the appointment and cancelled. We also have a crack in one window that they haven't yet come out to replace.
Description of Work: Allied installed some windows in our home. We are hiring them again to do the back of the house too.

Allied was not the least expensive bid I had but I had confidence they would do a good job, and they did. And they did clean up the yard every day. There was a project manager also that communicated promptly with me.

+ -1 moreI think they did an excellent job and I was very impressed. We are in Houston, and they had just finished putting up the siding when Ike hit. We didn't lose any siding, thank god, but we were without power for 2 weeks. The brought over a generator and the job was done before we even got our power back. They were on Angie's List and I got a discount for being on the List. We also got a discount for paying cash.
Description of Work: They tore down my old "crushed card-board" siding that was rotting. They took it all off and put on Hardie Plank Siding. They painted everything including the garage and gutters.

+ 0 moreTheir marketing material sounded great. Wished it matched with how they perform a job. They misrepresent. Said job would take 2 consecutive days to install hardiplank and paint. Took 10 days and weather was not an issue. Example, it took 8 days to complete the painting job. House is 95% brick. Said they used professional painters. Not true. Foreman said they have 1 professional painter and when he was not available, they used unskilled painters. There are streaky brush marks; paint drip marks; paint on brick; incorrect color (e.g. painted brown shutters grey); when repainted, shutters got dark shutter paint on grey trim and they left it that way; and they began painting door without power-washing/cleaning it. Even after I clearly discussed with the foreman that I hired and paid for a professional painter, they still chose to not deliver such skill sets. Sales said they computer color-matched to ensure a color match to meet home association guidelines. Not true. Foreman said they do not have this capability. Began painting trim a different color. Stopped them until they were able to get a reasonable match. Said they would remove shutters to paint to ensure quality, as well as to prevent paint on the brick. Not true. Foreman said shutters must remain on house. They got some paint on the brick. Also, only painted part of the slats of the shutter. Again, had to call to have them return. Their one professional painter was embarrassed by the work that was done when he finally was available to return and complete the job. The Hardiplank installation was done well. So that's the reason I provided an overall "C" grading for quality. Otherwise it would be F. One final note, the marketing material says they back their work and the CEO himself says to call him directly if you're not satisfied. I did within 2 days of the project. Spoke to both him and and operations manager he assigned. Never heard from either of them again and these issues continued on for another 8 days. If you cannot get resolution after raising the issues to management, it is clearly not an organization to select or do business with. Did receive a call from the sales rep once I submitted a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, due to their misrepresentation. They never explained or addressed the misrepresentation issue. Offered me a $100 gift card, which I declined.

+ -1 moreA nightmare, and it continues with us getting letters stating that they are glad we chose them and still trying to take money from our insurance check and never have done any work. Only gave us a conversation, no estimate, no work....NOTHING!
Description of Work: We called the company to come out and give us an estimate on how much it would cost to put on a new roof. It took 3 days to get an appointment for someone to come out. A salesman named Fred came out an hour and a half late from the appointment time and did not inspect roof. He only wanted to talk about who our insurance company was and very pushy about a claim number. We told him that we were only getting estimates and then would make a decision after we had spoken to everyone and would give them a call if we chose them. Fred went on to say that we needed to sign his contingent form in order for his crew to come out and climb on top of the roof, make their assessment and then give us a price. My husband and I reluctantly signed the form and asked how soon would the crew come out and he said he would call me. After he left, my husband and I started reading the form in more detail and realized that it was indeed a contract and Fred had gotten us to sign it under false pretenses from him, that he was on our side and they would protect us from our insurance company and get everything we needed to get our roof replaced. I immediately called Fred, told him we wanted to terminate the form we signed, it was not even an hour later. He tried to convince me that everything was OK and assured me that they would take care of everything with the insurance company. I told him NO Thanks! I then hung up the phone and wrote him an email terminating the contract. I never heard from Fred, even after about 5 more phone messages I left on his voice mail. I then called their office and told them that we had terminated the contract. They said OK, no problem, but a day later we got a letter stating that we would be charged a portion of our insurance claim check because we had canceled and they were charging us for the work they had done. Their company never did anything for us but to come out, sit down and talk and press us to sign the contingent form. They did not put a tarp on our roof, nothing, no estimate, only a conversation that was pushy and pushing us to sign! My husband and I were upset! We called the president of the company, explained what happened and his response was to send him a copy of the email for proof. I sent him a copy, he then sent me a letter stating that we had no further obligations. A day later, we still received a letter from them stating that in a couple of days, they would call us and come out and let us know when they could start and thanked us for choosing them to serve our roofing needs! We again were puzzled, it appears we are in their computer system and letters are generated to anyone that they talk to and the "car salesman," Fred, has gotten to sign this contingent letter pretending that it gave them permission to climb on top of the roof and get IT DONE! We were completely disappointed in this company and warn all others, beware! Never sign anything, especially if being pushed as we were!

+ -1 moreIf I had decided to have that work done I would have chosen them. They were very nice and gave an excellent bid. I just replaced the wood boards that were rotten on the house instead of using them though but they were punctual and responsive, they did a detailed estimate of the work they were going to do and they were very professional in following up a couple of weeks later to see if I needed more information or if I'd made a decision. Everyone I talked to was not only professional but kind. I would recommend them to anyone who was looking into having party plank done.

They were very apologetic for the mishap and even paid to have it repaired. The Hardi plank was then installed and the workmanship was fantastic! They took a little longer than expected but it was well worth the wait. They did an outstanding job and I was very pleased with the service.

The crew was polite and responsive to my requests - for example, some nails penetrated the thinner wood cross braces in my garage, and they cut off the parts protruding to the interior of the garage. The finished garage looks like new, and they did a good job of matching the existing color of the house.
Description of Work: Replace all siding, soffit, fascia, and trim on garage with Hardi Plank. Soffit and fascia repair to house.

Brian Schumaker, who headed up the installation team, had said they'd probably be able to do it all in one day and he was right. They arrived exactly when they said they would and it was obvious that they knew their business. The three-man team was efficient, neat, quiet, courteous, pleasant. There was no broken glass anywhere. They even covered my furniture to protect it. And the windows are awesome! The garden windows are to die for!!! Kudos to Allied and to Brian and his team!!!

+ -1 moreRobert was our salesman and we signed the contract 11/19/07. We were told we would have our windows installed before Christmas. We picked Allied through Angie's List because of the overall A rating plus customer satisfaction. First installation date: 1/2/08. They installed 2 wrong windows which needed to be reordered. Second installation date 1/17/08 installed more windows but came to abrupt halt when an inspector stopped by the job site and shut things down because they did NOT have a permit. Third installation date 1/28/08, Bruce called to cancel, truck trouble. Fourth installation date 1/31/08. Finally finished the work. There were many problems during all of the installation days. I found shards of glass around the inside of the house some in my daughter's bed because they score the glass and then break it. They almost took out a window that was not being replaced. Good thing I caught him. We wrote a letter to Allied explaining our horrible experience and never heard back from them.
Description of Work: Install 14 Perimeter grids, double hung windows.

He followed up and let me know that he wanted my business and gave me his cell phone in case I had any questions while I made my decision. The project went off exactly as planned and in the week and 1/2 time frame. Don and his crew were there every morning on time and cleaned up as they went. They were pleasant and helpful and even helped me pick the paint colors. The siding and windows look great. I am very pleased.

+ 2 moreThe work went fine. Allied is very professional and delivers what they say they will. Heavy rains caused delays, but the work was delivered as promised other than that. They did very good work on the punch-list items.
Description of Work: The amount is for siding, painting, a new roof and energy-efficient windows. I do not have the breakdown at hand. Siding all around one and a half story house and garage, a new roof on both, for a 2,500 sq. ft. living area. The windows on the upper floor were also hurricane-rated. Their pricing is reasonable for the work.

Description of Work: I had them install hardy plank style siding on the back wall of my 3 bedroom and 2 1/2 bath home. They also installed 3 replacement windows 36" x 72". They disposed of all the debris as well.

Description of Work: 22 windows replaced, including 7 large picture windows and trapezoid windows on the 3rd floor. All new sliding windows with full screens, except for picture windows which don't open and of course don't have a screen.
