Greg Simmons did an outstanding job of bringing our house back to life after Harvey. Although we had a relatively minor amount of water in the house, we completely removed all drywall, floors, cabinets and doors. From the very minute we first contacted Greg, we felt that he really cared about us and about rebuilding our house with quality. His own home was flooded, and his family was displaced by the storm. Instead of focusing on his own problems, however, he put his customers first. Although sub-contractors have been in short supply over the last several months, and building materials were sometimes difficult to obtain, Greg has his own committed teams and was relentless about following up to get what is needed. He never failed to call or text back the same day with an efficient but meaningful response. Greg worked within our insurance budget even when building costs increased and delivered the promised work for exactly the amount committed. He charged only for the work he actually performed and was fair and accurate about record keeping. When unexpected challenges arose, Greg came up with efficient and creative solutions that did not break the bank. Change orders were created fairly and efficiently at a reasonable cost, and we were always given several options at different price points. The final product looks great. He has good crews and sub-contractors, but he supervises them well and carefully inspects their work. Even after we were satisfied with the quality, Greg insisted on resolving every last item that did not meet his own high standards. He turned away a lot of work, so he could focus well on the commitments he made. Greg is justifiably proud of his work. We would not hesitate to use him again or to recommend his work to anyone.

This was a major project involving the widening of the existing garage footprint and building a 2nd story with new roof over the widened garage. The new space was designed as a garage apartment/art studio. The project started soon after Harvey hit Houston which made it more challenging to obtain materials. Nevertheless, Black and White did a great job under difficult circumstances. Greg is a pleasure to work with. His attention to customer requirements, fairness and integrity are to be admired. A pleasure to work with !

This is the second time I've used Greg and his team on a project of mine. I don't plan on using anyone else going forward.

Great, the bathrooms are amazing, new, up to date and beautiful. We had no idea what to do with the giant window in our bathroom.. they removed it, matched the brick and put in a smaller window just for light high up... PERFECT, we would have never thought it could be done. Would hire them again, the make great adjustments on the fly for you and do excellent work... was it super fast? No.. but it was done right.

We recently had the great fortune to find Greg Simmons and Black and White Construction to help us rebuild our house following Hurricane Harvey. From the very conversation with Greg, he has been nothing but 100% professional, responsive and honest. Within days after the storm, he had a dumpster in front of the house and a crew at work doing fast and professional demo and debris removal. Even though Greg had significant flood damage to his own home, he put our interests at the top of the list and approached the job with a strong eye toward quality. Right after the storm, he was deluged with customer calls, crew coordination and requests for estimates, but he was always available to us either by text or phone. During the dry out, he took regular moisture readings and made absolutely certain the job was 100% complete. While he is thorough and detailed, he does not sweat the small stuff, and he has done his very best to make sure we put the home back together the right way. He is starting the full rebuild this week, and I am confident he will deliver a great product.

The team did an excellent job and conscientiously cleaned up after themselves at the end of each day. The team was the same from week to week without any turnover which gave me peace of mind. I purchased all of the hardware, fixtures, laminate floor, and tile as the job progressed and the foreman communicated frequently so that I would have time to purchase the items (in stages) and have them at my house when they were ready to install each piece. I highly recommend working with this company.

I contacted Black and White after reading the reviews here. Unfortunately my experience was different. I could never get them to give me an appointment and getting them to return calls was nearly impossible. This went on for over two weeks! If this is how they treat potential customers, I cannot even imagine how they would treat customers that have problems with their work. No thank you!!

Greg helped design the kitchen, he was able to understand wife's expectation quickly and come up with good design solutions for her vision. He helped her make selection on the materials, and did a good job in remodeling the kitchen. He was on schedule and did not make the project idle. The plan and excution was very efficient. His crews are professional, on time and tidy. Greg has high standard and he did not hesitate to redo the part that was not up to the requirement. We are very happy with the result and awarded the flooring project to his firm as well. We are happy with both projects and would award future remodeling.

Greg is very friendly and knowledgeable. Genuinely wanted our business and wanted to help. Seemed very busy and wasn't the quickest response we got.

They never showed up despite receiving email and phone correspondence from them. Since I took off work to meet them, I will be seeking damages.

This partial remodel of a high-end rental house went very well and per schedule. Most days Greg had 2 or 3 B&W guys at the house, and he regularly visited the job to solve things that cropped up. Communication was very good; prompt response to phone calls from the customer. Plumbing and hardwood floors were subcontracted to capable subs. Response to changes originated by the Customer was likewise good, and at a fair price. This was the third project we have done with Black & White over the past 2-3 years, being repeat customers due to B&W quality, customer service and integrity. Would not hesitate to recommend this Company for small or major remodels, including major additions and new builds

The project went extremely well. Communication and professionalism are paramount to me and Black & White did not disappoint. Chris walked me through each phase of the stated repair work, notified me of challenges, and made sure I was completely satisfied with the end product. The engagement was one of collaboration and inclusiveness. Highly recommend.

We've owned houses for 35 years and have hired several contractors for jobs both big and small. This was the smallest job, but easily the worst experience we've had. We signed a contract in mid June 2015, ordered the windows from the manufacturer, and notified B&W in early Sept 2015 the windows had arrived. B&W agreed to appear several times in Sept and Oct to unpack the 450 lb crate to inspect for incorrect orders and windows broken in shipment, but never kept the appointments. B&W appeared late in Nov 2015 (Thanksgiving week), ready to install. As feared, upon unpacking, the window order was discovered to be incorrect. That was not B&Ws fault. It was, however, their fault they'd not inspected the windows in the months before. B&W also failed to follow through with a commitment to bring the window manufacturer into the project (to understand why the order was wrong, help in shipping the windows back to the factory, ordering new ones, etc). We lost another 7 weeks waiting for B&W to do this before giving up on them and looking for someone else. Poor reliability makes B&W unusable, but communication with the owner is even worse. To the best of my memory, after the contract was signed, B&W never answered a phone call, never returned a call and has ignored dozens of voice mails, text messages and emails. B&Ws' failure to appear is a puzzle-we never had a disagreement with the owner about any issue; apparently, he simply decided he did not want to follow through with the contract. In Jan 2016, with rain continuing to leak into the house, we'll start looking for another contractor. To repeat, B&W is by far the worst contracting experience we have had.

No work done. Said they would provide and estimate then declined.

Greg and his crew were skilled, efficient and nice people to work with. Greg accommodated our small job and worked with our unique request to install soundproofing material to an existing wall. They also worked in a very tight space outside to install the acoustical fence. The wall came out looking good. The crew did a good job installing the soundproofing material, which was not a product they had worked with before. They also did a good job keeping the room tidy and cleaned it up well along the way as well as upon completion of the job. We were happy with the job and hope to use Black and White Construction's services for future work.

This is the 2nd time we have hired Black and White and they do excellent work. Greg (the owner) is very professional and in my opinion he truly cares that his workers do a good job. He is honest about what he feels needs to be done and is willing to present different options in order to fit your budget if necessary. I have noticed that from time to time, Black & White gets very busy and it may take a few extra days to get work scheduled. That said, Greg is always good about communicating, setting your expectations, and doing his best about working with your schedule. He has always responded to my calls, texts, and emails in a timely manner. We absolutely will not hesitate to call Black and White again for any future needs we have.

.This is the third time I've had Greg's Company provide home construction/remodeling services, and , as on previous occasions they did a very good job. Most of the work was done by two of his regular employees. Black and White is dependable, professional and efficient. Home "sparkled" after the work was done. Stayed within the agreed lump sum price.

Very well done, great service and price

Both jobs were done very well. They are prompt, thorough, and do very fine work. They are very responsible. They are not cheap but they do great work.

I thought the pricing was a little high, but they did do the job. I requested they quote some additional work and I never received the quote for that work. I am not completely sure they did the work they said they would on the roofing. I know that they did take care of the shingles, however. They did repair a crack of the house just fine. The painting and trim was satisfactory. I am not sure how knowledgeable the inspector was on what he said needed done. He identified a true code issue but you are not sure it was handled correctly. There may have been some mis communication between him and the crew. They completed the job in a better part of the day with a crew of about 4. They did show up to the appointment on time.

Greg and his crew did a great job for us. We are very happy with the quality of the work that they did. Greg was always responsive to my questions by email and phone. The project ended up taking a little longer than we had hoped, but this was mostly due to unforeseen events (power outage, etc.) We will not hesitate to contact Greg and Black & White Construction again in the future for additional projects.
