Description of Work: It was a Saturday; they said a heater circuit board was faulty and the connector – of course since it was a weekend, they didn’t have the parts. The technician was not a good one and we froze the entire weekend with no heat. They called on Monday with the estimate to repair – approx. $975. I got a second opinion from another HVAC company (Luxury Air) and they fixed the problem in 20 minutes and charged me nothing (ZERO). Two months later I hired them (Luxury Air) to replace both of my units.]

Description of Work: One of my units (5ton) was freezing up intermittently (once every few days). I called in the late afternoon and they came out just a few hours later. I explained the issue the service tech thought that it was probably low on refrigerant. He was knowledgeable. |After confirming the pressures as low indicating the system was low on refrigerant he said he would charge the system and told me the system had a capacity of 15 lbs. I remarked it could not possibly need a full charge as it was preforming well most of the time and was probably only slightly low, a fact of which he confirmed after filling. It only needed 3 lbs. to bring it to a full charge. |Before he charged the unit with additional refrigerant, I commented that any sizable leak should be detectable before adding a large quantity of refrigerant. He then said, "I can check the system for leaks, but that will cost an additional $148.00." WT#$%^!!!!! |The price was bad enough, actually absurd, but worst was that someone would actually charge a unit that may have a substantial leak yet not check to see if the unit could be expected to hold the refrigerant charge for any length of time, especially considering they are charging $200.00 for the first two pounds and $48.00 per pound for however much it needs after the first two pounds! (BTW the wholesale price for a 30 lb. bottle R-12 is ~ $240.00) Call any HVAC supply store. |The leak was determined to be in the evaporator coil (unrepairable) which the tech demonstrated to me, by placing the electronic sensing probe into the evaporator cabinet, causing the sensor to sound. |I paid for the service call including the 3 lb. charge and the leak check service. Total was a little over $500.00. |The unit was working and I suspect would have continued until becoming low on refrigerant again. |I was sent email links a day or two later for quotes on: |1. Condenser/Evaporator change out |2. Full system change out for a two speed system which includes a furnace change out | |After getting additional bids I chose another company because I believe I would get better service at a better price; which has proven to be the case. |Conroe Air Conditioning, I believe will provide a quality service, however I also believe they will take you to the cleaners doing so. |Businesses are in business to make a profit, including the one I'm in, I get it. I'm willing to pay fair market prices, I'm just not will to be the sheep that gets sheared. |

Description of Work: Had a Service Call and upon entering premisies the Service Tech had no ID identifying himself, was told that My Coil had a major leak and needed to be replaced, then I was told the charges, mind you the House & unit is less than 2 years old and unit is under warranty, but Service Tech was explicit that they wanted payment up front for the coil and I would need to chase Conroe Air when they recieved notification from manufacturer that coil was under warranty!! Then the labor charge was approx $1,100.00, plus coolant, plus a $125.00 adminstrative charge for writing up of paperwork !! In all the years I have owned 9 homes and ahd previous warranty claims and have never had this explained to me this way ! Since the service Tech left that day ( he put in 4 pounds of coolant at $168.00 for first 2 pounds, then $30 each addional pound plus tax), I had 2 other contractors come to house for service call and determined a small leak in the coil, they would get a coil from manufacturer at no charge to me & installation charges were $400.00 !! Also thier coolant charge is $30.00 a pound !! Then I found out my neighbors had Conroe Air come in for a check up and was told they they had to have thier Evaporator Coil replaced because of a leak !!! Since then my neighbors called another company for a check up & did a leak test & no problems !!! the Service Tech's name at Conroe Air was Isreal for both servie calls to myself & neighbor and most of the time he was on his cell phone toalking to girlfriend in spanish & didnt know I understood evrey word he was saying !!!! Worst company I have ever delt with !! How many other customers are they ripping off???? I have also called Conroe Air and left 3 messages for the Operations Manager, and never returned my call!!! ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________If you look at Conroe's Air response please note the company had no response regarding of telling my nieghbor the exact same story and as of today Conroe Air has also done the same story to other neighbors in the SubDivision,, note they said nothing about the coolant charge and the other companies that came out also did not install the original unit but was not going to ask for any money up front for the replacement unit,, it was totally covered under warranty !!!!! BUYER BEWARE,, there are also several pending issues with the BBB and I still have yet to recieve a phone call !!,, that's how much Conroe Air cares !!!

Upon review of service ticket, customer has 3 year old Amana equipment which was installed by others. Evaporator coil is defective and is covered by manufactuers warranty. The manufacturer will provide an new coil, we however are required to pay for the coil (up front) and when coil is returned with proper warranty paperwork, we are credited with the amount paid (approx 90 days later). As explained on the homeowners service ticket, the total charge for the coil would be $1150.00 which would include coil, freon, misc materials as well as labor and warranty processing fee. Upon completion of installation and credit of purchased coil from Amana, the customer would receive a $650 refund bringing the total installed price for the in warranty coil to $500 as stated on the invoice. Conroe Air did not install or manufactuer this equipment. The refund time from this manufactuer on credits is approx 90 days. We are sorry that we delivered the bad news to the the member, however thats what he paid us to do (find out what the problem was). As the homeowner stated, two (2) other A/C companies found the same leak and he had the coil replaced. After all is said and done, our cost was $100 more than "Chuck in a truck". That contractor is financing the project for at least 90 days. We simply chose not to bear the risk if we did not install the equipment. Regarding the statement that the member called our office several times, all calls are recorded and we find no indication of those calls. We have stayed in business over 32 years by treating customers with respect and providing quality service. We regreat that the member found our service lacking.
