They were very thorough and the fireplace works great. They didn't make any mess and cleaned up well. They were friendly.

I made an appointment for them to come by early the week following my call. Kim scheduled the appointment and said they'd be in my part of town the next day; if their other appointments went quickly they'd try to fit me into their schedule. They were able to fit me in the next day. Not only did they successfully complete the work, Kenneth showed me where I needed to trim trees back from the chimney and pointed out a couple of cracked flue tiles that I need to keep an eye on. He also pointed out a couple of other minor repairs that may need to be taken care of in the next couple of years, and told me how I could do some of them myself. Looking back at the receipt they left me, I see that they didn't charge me for the firebox repair.

We seldom use our fireplace so it wasn't really dirty, but we're getting a new door for it so this seemed a good time to have it checked. It's probably been 15-20 years since it was last cleaned, etc. Top Hat went over the fireplace and clearly explained how it works. Noted that we didn't have a chimney cap. They were able to install one at that visit. Would definitely use them again.

We had an issue with a gas fireplace. We had used Top Hat before in regard to this fireplace and were quite happy with their work, so we called them again. It turned out that, in this instance, the problem (a faulty regulator) was not within their area of work, but they gave us the name of another provider who could do the work we needed. The referred provider did exactly what we needed at a reasonable price.

Ken and Kim were punctual, professional, and went out of their way to explain potential issues and concerns down the road. They were in and out in about 2 hours. The price is reasonable and I would definitely recommend them.

Ken and Kim are the total package! They are delightful and very informative on top of being very professional. Ken explained how my stove insert works and why it was smoking, what would be involved to remove it, how to clean it (it didn't need it yet), what kind of wood to burn, etc. He showed me photos of the deterioration on the chimney cap outside and gave me a quote on fixing it. They were very patient and gave me information that I might not have thought to ask about.

Rain was dripping onto the firebox, we could hear the pinging but couldnt see a leak. Ken inspected inside and then went outside where he climbed to the top of the chimney to inspect there. He found the cage damaged and tilted. After removing it, straightening it and re-screenig it, Ken replaced it and caulked. Total time involved about 1 hour.

Kim came by to take a look and gave me a quote. She was very thorough and wrote everything down on my estimate and invoice b/c it was a repair found by a home inspection due to the home being sold. She then came back and fixed everything promptly and even tolerated my two young children that were very interested in what she was doing. She is very personable and great to have around.

I called to request service for dryer vent cleaning. They didn't answer, so I left a voice message. Two days later, no one had called me back. So, I called again. The woman who answered was on a phone that kept cutting out, and she ended up hanging up on me. But, I did find out that they do not service the West Campus area, which is where the condominium property is that needed the dryer vent service. Since the reviews on Angie's list were so good, I was also planning on using their service for my home address, as well with a fireplace and dryer vent that need cleaning. Unfortunately, my initial experience was not good, so I plan to look elsewhere.

Requested the chimney on a rental house be cleaned. Top Hat reported that the chimney liner was fractured and a new liner was needed. Top Hat provided an estimate and requested a down payment of $500 to order a custom chimney liner. The repair took two days (the mortar on the chimney cap had to set prior to installing the spark arrestor. Great job.

Mr. & Mrs. Fredenburg owners of Top Hat arrived on time and began checking the dryer vent right away. She worked with a blower in the laundry room and he with a brush outside at the vent. He knew which vent it was and recognized the problem immediately. Dryer is working well. Ms. Fredenburg also gave me a timetable and a plan on how to check out the vent in the future. They are a terrific team and they certainly know how to run a business.

The roofing company that installed the roof on my house said the chimney cap/crown needed to be repaired or replaced. After searching for suppliers on Angie's List, I contacted Top Hat Chimney Sweeps. On March 17, Top Hat looked at the cap/crown and elected to repair it. The problem was worse after the repair. When it rained the morning of March 20, water entered both fireplaces. About 7:30 that morning I called Top Hat and left a voice-mail message informing them about the leaks and asking them to contact me immediately. I also sent an email that morning with the same information. On March 22 about 12:30 p.m., they called and offered to come to my house the afternoon of March 24. We made an appointment, which I cancelled after getting an opinion from another Angie's List supplier -- a roofing company that does chimney work. The company said the cap/crown needed to be replaced, not repaired. A roofing consultant and yet another roofing company also looked at the cap/crown and performed water tests, which showed it was leaking. The repair done by Top Hat had not worked. I had the cap/crown replaced on April 8 by the other Angie's List supplier. I've sent two emails to Top Hat requesting a refund, and I've requested a refund in a telephone conversation with the owner's wife. I also attempted to fax a letter requesting a refund. However, Office Depot was unable to get the fax to go through to the fax number on the Top Hat business card. When I called the number, I got a voice-mail message saying no one was available to take the call and asking the caller to leave a message. I have not received a refund.

Very well. They showed up on time, did all the work they were supposed to and were done in about an hour. Ken got up on the roof and looked at the chimney and the cap, pointed out a few things my inspector didn't notice and made me feel really good about the situation. I would definitely recommend them for fireplace and dryer vent cleaning services.

The motor on our dryer burned out due to the dryer vent being clogged. I called them and they were at our door in 15 minutes. The husband and wife team worked for about 30 minutes to complete the job. They also taught me how to know when to schedule another visit.
