After he left I called around and found over charged me by a lot. I had all the parts and they still over charged. I called around to other plumbers and they quoted half the price he charged.

Called in am with water leak . S&D scheduled for afternoon, kept us informed of revised time (early), & fixed leak promptly & efficiently.

I made an appointment with S & D. They arrived as scheduled and replaced the ~20 year-old water heater and brought the water heater closet up to code. They provided same-day service and took care of the potentially big problem before it was a huge issue. Service was done promptly, efficiently and under estimated price.

Hot water heater went out. Scheduled the plumber to arrive in a window between 11am - 1pm..... at 130pm had to call plumbing co to ask where the plumber was.... told he was at a different location and wasn't finished there yet... new estimated arrival time: 3pm.... at 4:30pm called plumbing co to ask where the plumber was... she spoke w/ him and said they would be arriving in appx 1h = 5:30pm!!! Nice, huh? Asked if they were planning on charging me the after-hours rate... she said no, would be charged regular rate ($125 just to show up! $90 for parts that, which, btw, they wouldn't let me go purchase myself at a $60 discount!!)........ when I inquired about a reduced rate or discount b/c we are now at 3.5hours PAST their original timeframe.... she said no, that she needed to get owner approval. I actually had to ask her to go ask the owner. She put me on hold... came back on and said the owner said "No Discount." Told her: Wow! I have a lot to say on Angie's List and it isn't looking so good for your company. S & D arrived at 540pm (4h40m late) and left at 615pm...... initially the plumber billed me for rate of $145 + $85 in parts.... so with my $10-off internet coupon, it was still more than I had been quoted TWICE by the office staff.... Upon disputing the bill, the plumber reduced the charges to the agreed upon $125 + $85 minus $10 coupon. Needless to say, I will not be using this company again. The attending plumber told me that a co-worker's wife had a baby that morning and that the other plumbers had to take on his projects. Knowing that S&D Plumbing is not a "small" business, it would be safe to assume that this isn't the first baby to be born into the business. A skilled office manager and business owner would have worked up a contingency plan in advance knowing that they will be less one employee soon. I have to add that it is not the plumber's fault that his office has poor scheduling and poor customer service -- they NEVER ONCE picked up the phone to call me about the repeated delays!!! He (the plumber) was really nice and discussed the condition of the water heater w/ me. As in most cases...... it isn't the little people that give businesses a bad reputation..... it is the "brass" in charge. One of the owners responded to my post on a public forum that he would like the opportunity to provide me with the level of service I feel I deserve. I responded: "Mr. D: if you were the customer experiencing the experience I did, would you want to call this business again? Let me answer that for you. NO. Shame on you and your office staff. No one, no one deserves to be treated so shabbily." Additionally, I'd like to add that my time is valuable too. This fiasco cost me an entire day of vacation time to be away from work. If S & D Plumbing had simply called me to let me know that they were behind schedule, I could have made use of the day away from work ... I had a dog that needed to go to the vet to have 80 staples removed, I could have had the oil changed in my car, I could have done a number of things.

The office staff and plumber were very professonal, friendly and helpful. When my appointment was lost in their system, and the plumber didn't show up as scheduled, they admitted the problem and got a plumber out a few hours later. The plumber was knowledgeable and very easy to work with. My only complaint is the cost: $125 minimum trip charge. I thought the estimate was for extensive work to repair the leak I described, and not for 30 minutes of work to investigate the problem and tape the washing machine hose to a PVC pipe. I wished I had better understood the minimum charge policy. I would use them again, but not in all cases.

The S&D people were very efficient, pleasant, competent and professional. Fortunately, my insurance company, USAA, pointed me to the S&D organization; I previously did not know of their existence, and now highly recommend them. What I learned from this experience (unlike what I did) is to be sure you get your insurance company involved early whenever you have a serious plumbing problem; they might be able to help.

They were wonderful. They didn't charge too much. They did a great job.

S & D Plumbing S & D Plumbing, were very open and honest. Cleaned up after themselves. They would discuss issues with me. When I had questions the would answer them, and didn't roll their eyes. They weren't on time and didn't call me to let me know they were going to be late, but other then that everything was perfect !

I found these guys because I thought I needed to excavate under the house to fix a drain pipe. It turned out that the plumber I had diagnose the problem got it completely wrong: the damage was not under the house, but in the yard. These guys ran a camera and got it exactly right. I found S&D because I called around and other plumbers told me if I needed excavation work, call S&D. My impression is that they hire craftsmen who know how to do it right. My only complaint is when they fixed the drain pipe in the yard, they started on the job before I arrived home. I needed to take pictures to document that the landscaper had damaged the pipe. They put the drain pipe back in place and I snapped the pictures. I would have preferred they wait; however I did not tell them that I needed the pictures, so it was an honest mistake.

I went with S&D because they were prompt, responsive, and forthcoming during the bid process. They weren't the cheapest, but quality of their work is high and their price is a good value given that quality. They also included items that were conspicuously omitted in other bids. They were able to start promptly and stayed on schedule for a large job. During the job, communication with the project manager and on-site foreman was excellent. After the end of the work, they stayed on top of the permitting process, making sure the inspection was complete, the project passed. When everything was done, they sent me a bound copy of the paperwork.

after i dug in my front yard for a couple hours trying to find my clean-out, i called s & d plumbing. they said they would be able to find my clean-out. they said they would arrive between 12pm and 2pm. the plumber arrived at 12:50pm. his name was melvin. he quickly went to work with his camera system to find the clean-out. then he augered the line through that clean-out and cleared the clog. he finished around 2pm.

Mr. Dowdy responded promptly to our request for a bid. He was able to begin the work within days of accepting his bid. I was most impressed by the use of camera technology to determine what had to be done since some of the work had previously been accomplished (20 years ago). His worker were just as professional. They completed the job quickly and efficiently. Since I am an amateur trying to update my parents' house to sell, I had failed to obtain all the permits needed for the scope of my job. Mr. Dowdy was very helpful in assisting us with information and names at the Code office so we could comply with Austin's Code. I also received a job report complete with Engineers report and photos of the work done at the close of their job. Great folks! Great Job! Highly recommend them!

He said he would get back to me with the estimate. He gave me an estimate of $14000, then sent me a $95 bill for coming out to look at the job. They treated it like a service call.

They were great. They did have to come back out after everything was fixed to do some last minute repairs. They were speedy and cleaned up when they were done. They also didn't talk down to anyone which was nice. I have already recommended them to others and would definitely use them again!

I would definitely refer others to them, they are extremely good. I appreciated the fact that they did not leave a big mess behind them either. They did what they had to do and was very quick about it. They were really professional.
