Dave Roundtree Handyman Repairs & Svcs

Dave is a good handyman and takes pride in his work. He responded promptly when I contacted him and showed up on time along with his helper to make the repairs. I could tell both were experienced in their crafts as they had all the necessary tools and equipment. Although I only needed to change out the two vertical (2 x 6's) and two (1 x 2's) that made of the frame around the garage door, I had no problem in paying a premium labor price of $225.00 to make sure is was done correctly. They removed the old frame trim that was basically cut too short when originally constructed and did not fit properly when the door closed (a big gap on each side at the bottom of the door) which always allowed moisture, insects and possibly small rodents to enter the garage. I used pressure treated lumber and they measured, cut, fit and caulked it such that there is now a tight fit all around the garage door including the bottom on each side. No more big gaps. Everything went great, and we are extremely pleased! Background: We bought a house in the Heights in the Fall of '14. The bi-fold doors on the utility closet never worked; the "rollers" at the top of the door were actually bolts with nuts that previous owners had put it for some reason. I tried to simply replace the rollers/bolts but found that the existing track was to thin (read old) to accept the new rollers I had purchased. I knew then that the whole tracking system had to be replaced. I already had a handyman that I used for such purposes, but I wanted to try someone else out, just to see if I liked them better. Enter Dave Roundtree. I called Dave and asked him to come out and look at my problem to see what he thought about fixing it. Right away, he saw the problem and told me that the track needed to be replaced and new track hardware needed to be put on the door. He told me he would charge me $85 + 1/2 the cost of the new track. I told him I would think about it and call him back if I wanted to proceed. I needed to think about it because we knew were going to be remodeling the whole kitchen area where the utility closet is. The remodel is being planned to be done in about a year. After talking with my partner, we decided to go ahead and get the doors fixed because they were driving us NUTS! I called Dave back and said we decided to go ahead and repair the tracks. We agreed on a date for the work to be done. Two days before the work was to be done, Dave called me to tell me that he needed to postpone the work by a week due to a conflict in his schedule that had just come up. I agreed, and was grateful for him calling me ahead of time instead of on the day the work was scheduled to be completed. On the day of the repair, Dave came and brought along a helper. They looked at the doors again to make sure they knew what to get, and they headed off to Lowe's to pick up the supplies. They came back about 30 minutes later and started the repair. First, they removed the old track and then took off the doors. They replaced one of the bottom clamps on the doors because it was rusted. Then they put the new track in. After that, they replaced the rollers/bolt at the top of the doors with the new rollers that came with the track. (I am not positive, but i think they replaced the bottom pins as well). Once they had all the new hardware in place, they re-assembled the door and viola - we had bi-fold doors that actually worked the way the were supposed to! I am glad I decided to try another handyman out because now I have 2 handymen I can call whenever I have any minor problems. Before Dave left, I asked him to look at a water softening unit we have underneath the kitchen sink. We don't use the system and would like it taken out. Dave looked at it and said he could definitely remove it, but he didn't have time to do a full inspection to determine what actually needed to be done. He is going to come back and look at it again sometime in the near future to determine everything that needs to be done to remove the unit.

Dave called minutes after I left a message for him and was able to come out the following morning between appointments, which I was grateful for. He is very punctual, professional and friendly. He saw the problem immediately with both the door and the filtered water system. It did not take him long to fix both problems and his price was extremely fair. We discussed other projects that our family would like to have done (we just moved into a home built in 1995). We have about 6 projects we would like to have done. Dave said he would be able to do these jobs on our time frame and when we could spend the extra money. He explained what he would need to do to each of our projects which include repairing, restoring or updating areas of our home. I was impressed with the work he did that day, and feel he is quite knowledgeable and will be more than qualified to do the other work we need done. I have already scheduled him for project #2- painting two bedrooms, replacing and adding ceiling fans to the rooms, and in a few weeks or a month's time, building an archway to join the two rooms together so our son can have a bedroom/gameroom.

Dave and Tim showed up with all the materials to tackle the leak and Tim was up on the roof in no time. They not only made the repairs but also did a little preventative maintenance on another vent. Dave said if the leak persisted to give them a call and they'll give it another try. Short of removing and replacing entire sections of a roof, which I'd like to avoid paying for, I know there is a little trial and error in fixing this sort of leak and if they have managed to fix it on the first try, that is awesome. If, and this is totally within the realm of possible because of aforementioned not wanting a giant roofing bill, they still need to do a bit more trouble shooting, I'm also comforted in knowing that Dave and Tim will be right back at the house to expand the repair area. This is the second time Dave has worked on our house and there are a few things that will keep him on my call list: as a woman who often has to deal with contractors while home alone, Dave has never made me feel uneasy in any way; I feel that his prices are fair and really like that he either provides a receipt or provides a list of things I can buy on my own and have waiting on project day; and he is timely -- Dave gets that a lot of home projects are time sensitive and he is quick to respond to requests and quick to do repairs.

Roofing / Chimney / leaks are not Dave's specialty. I had a leak in my chimney and Tim ( Dave's employee) put a lot of caulk around the chimney. This did not fix my problem the first or second time. Come to find out, this created more of a problem. The first time out, both Dave and Tim were nice and punctual which is important to me. The second time out, I felt as Dave was pushy and was not really listening to what I was saying. I did not get a good feeling about what was being said or going on. He tracked mud basically throughout my house. He did not come prepared for work as I had to supply his tools - ladder and a flashlight, (no caulk). He did not clean up after they were done either. I would not recommend this company for any roof repairs. I don't like giving bad reviews, but felt that it was my responsibility being a member of Angies List and how much I rely on them since I am new to my area.

The service went very well from my first call to Dave until they completed the work. Dave was able to complete the work within a few days of my calling him. That seems to be a rarity with handymen these days. I would not hesitate to have Dave come out for future jobs.

He replied to my initial Angie's list query the next day, and scheduled an appointment for the following Monday He (and his helper) showed up to the appointment on time. The tub and tile surround looks like new. This job took a considerable amount of time since the old caulking strips were very moldy and difficult to remove, but his co-worker stuck with it until the end result was beautiful. Like I said, it looks like new. The doorknob hardware I purchased for the front door was defective, and he even took it back to exchange at Home Depot for me. Doorknobs and hardware were installed, and he even adjusted the fit of the door so it opens and closes easier. Made sure lock did not stick and worked smoothly. I'll need to hire him again to paint the front door since the old knob hardware was larger than the new, so some of the older old door paint is now showing above the new hardware (the door hasn't been painted for something like 20 years, so probably due anyway). Hung the drapery rod for a wall hanging I had, and took great care to ensure it was hung level. He was so impressed with the stud finder I had that he ordered a couple for himself from Amazon before he left :-) I will definitely call him again.

Dave and his assistant did a fantastic job locating the reason for water dripping from my ceiling. A pipe in the attic had a small leak, but the water had traveled and had come through the ceiling about 25 ft. from the pipe. When they located the source of the leak, it was quickly repaired. Dave even told me what to do about discoloration from any water stains and removed a small piece of ceiling plaster so I could get an exact paint color match. I called him at 5:00 pm New Year's Eve and he was here at 10:00 am Jan. 2. Now that's service!

Dave is always great in returning calls! Showed up on time and took care of the issue. I have used him before and will always continue to use his expertise.

Excellent. Dave was able to work me into his schedule before Christmas, for which I was grateful since this was a present for my sister. I had to leave work to go meet him at her house and he texted me before he left to let me know of his arrival time. Very helpful since I left work to meet him.

Dave was timely and that was critical to our request. A gutter crew had shown up to replace our gutters and when they removed the old gutters, discovered some rot that was beyond what they were prepared to fix. The gutter job was bumped back a week, so we were on a timeline to get the repairs made. Dave was very forthcoming on the soonest he could drop by for an estimate (a couple days after we called initially). When the weather was anything but cooperative (non-stop rain) and we were starting to worry, Dave assured us that the project would be completed in time no matter what. When Dave did the estimate, he was able to tell us what we would need for the project. That meant the materials were ready and waiting. It took a few hours and my husband helped the repair guy (not Dave, but one of Dave's employees) to move the project along, but I'm sure the guy Dave sent was fully capable and the end result looked professionally done. This was my first time using a handyman and we will definitely keep Dave in mind for future projects.

I've been putting off "fixing" my attic access ladder for a while. This year after attempting to get the Christmas decorations down I noticed that the tree box would no longer fit between the support rods and was no longer safe so it was time to have someone take a look....and fast. We found several Handy Man listings via Angie's List and chose Dave Roundtree due to many reviews listed that were similar to ours and not "large projects". Dave was able to come and give an estimate the same Saturday that we called. I'm always impressed when I don't have to leave a message and even more so when businesses adapt to certain needs. Dave came out to measure the opening as there are a few options for the access doors and agreed to pick it up for me since I do not own a truck and they won't ship that type of item. (Thanks again Dave!) Tuesday morning Dave and an assistant showed up right on time and got right to work. Dave is certainly a true gentleman and obviously knowledgeable about what he does. We will absolutely use him again and would not hesitate to call on him for bigger jobs.

I contacted Dave after finding him on Angie's List. He promptly returned my call. After discussing the work to be done with my husband (we had concerns about installing a new ceiling fan and being able to use the builder installed controls) Dave came to our home to assess the situation. He then returned the following day as promised, and within a few hours all work was completed. He and his crew were very pleasant, courteous, and efficient.

I am very happy with the service that Dave performed for me and I would highly recommend him to others. Dave was very responsive, and was here exactly when he said he would be. Fixing the faucet took a great deal of work, and it was done in a very professional manner. I was also very pleased with the cost of the service and felt that I definitely got my monies worth.

The fan installation was successful and works great. The desk was completed and place in the exact spot I needed it. Dave and co worker cleaned up floors and disposed of boxes in my trash can.

They were prompt, professional, and were even able to work around other men who were in the house working in my attic and on my pipes. When the new door didn't fit correctly (due to my door jam being from 1956) , they were able to fix it by cutting new lock holes in the door jam and resealing everything with wood filler. They even made a trip to Home Depot to get more white caulk (all he had was clear), because Dave wanted it to look right. They didn't leave until they knew I could securely lock the door and felt safe and satisfied with the end results. I would recommend them and use them again!

Dave's price was very reasonable, they finished every item promptly and because of their handwork mopping up the things I couldn't get around to, the condo looks great. Dave was great to work with, very reasonably priced, and does great work. I was so happy with Dave, that i called him a couple of weeks later to help me clean out my garage. We came to a price that was very reasonable, he and his helper were great--as if I expected him to be anything else.

I am extremely pleased with the quality of the Sheetrock repairs and baseboard replacement. Called Dave, he told we when he could do estimate, gave estimate and started the next day. It took longer than I anticipated, but overall, great job!

Dave and his helper, Carlos, came out and repaired my metal fence. I had an old post that had rusted through near the ground line so that it was no longer supporting the gate and fence section that connected to it. I found a replacement post and hinges from a supply company and sheet metal screws for the connections. Dave and Carlos dug out the old post and the concrete it was set in. Then they set the new post in the hole and set it in new concrete. They installed the hinges to rehang the gate and the clips to rehang the fence section. They reconnected everything so that it fit properly and worked. Dave was courteous, showed up when he said he would and made sure the work was done correctly. I enjoyed working with him and will not hesitate to call him for future work.

I contacted Dave on a Thursday. I had an estimate by midday the following Saturday, as promised. The estimate was given to me over the phone, however I think had I requested something in writing Dave would have provided it. I had one other bid that was twice as much, so I was very pleased with Dave's bid and asked how soon he could do the job. He started on Monday, arriving at the time promised. He had one helper and the job was completed by mid morning on Tuesday. They did an excellent job. I would hire Dave again.

Dave and his team mate came as per the schedule and finished the job to the satisfaction.

Dave was responsive with scheduling; showed up on time with a colleague and the work was done well. We purchased the new sink from Home Depot ahead of time and a part was missing from the box. Dave went to Home Depot and was able to get the part out of another box which saved us the trip. Overall, we were happy with the service and will use him again in the future.
