Original service included caller ID but several months later when we lost service due to a lightening strike on the property, we were told that the service was never included and were told if we wanted it, we would have to pay an additional $10 per month. An agent informed us that the caller id service might have been included as a promotional offer for signing up, but that instead of the caller id service expiring, it could have been errantly left active on the account, such that when the service was interrupted by the mentioned lightning strike, it became known to Windstream that the caller id service needed to be removed. We were never informed of the caller id service being a promotional feature, and when it was removed, we tried to get it restored, only we were told that there would be a fee associated with its inclusion this time.
Description of Work: Standard service with long distance calling. International and U.S. long distance service never worked although it was a known problem by the telephone company. This included the inability to even receive international calls.

When I complained of poor Wi-Fi reach within my house they required me to buy their upgraded router for 75.00. The problem is no better. In addition, my download speed is marginally acceptable and the upload speed is terrible.

Windstream hires contractors who are not particularly responsible. I have been lucky now to have had 2 very professional repairmen come to fix this recurring problem. But it has taken me numerous phone calls to finally get someone qualified to come out. It's very frustrating to know that I have no choice of land line other than Windstream. I thought that phone monopolies died with Ma Bell!
Description of Work: Two of our lines which had been installed by Windstream went dead. We discovered it when we returned from vacation on 22 July. I immediately called for service and was given a date for 2 weeks later. When the repairman showed up, he said that the lines located outside my house were considered inside lines and I would need to contact Windstream to negotiate a price with them. I then called Windstream for a definition of terms and described what the workman had said. I was given another repair date (today). This man was excellent. He explained everything to me and showed where squirrels had eaten away all the insulation on the wires.

I use them because they are local here in the area where I am. They are a major provider in this area. I would like to switch over to another company but right now I’m not allowed to do that in my area.

I don't like them but it is kind of a pain to change. I did like the last service technician that I dealt with. He was really good but it took forever for them to be able to send a guy out. It is a pain to try to actually get them to do something. It took weeks of having my internet go out and come back and keep going out and coming back. I told them that I thought I needed a new router and it took weeks. Finally the guy came out and checked all the connections. He told me that it was my problem and it was something in the house. I told them it was the box and they finally gave me a new one and magically everything works fine now. Their responsiveness was very poor. They kept me on the phone forever and it was torture. I had to talk to a bunch of different people and keep telling them the same story. They are really the only landline phone company that we have to choose from. I think that is one of the reasons they think they don't have to provide good customer service. I have a bundled package with them. I could probably get better prices if I unbundled things but who knows how long that would take. They did actually come on the day they said. The one guy was so nice but everyone else was not. I will continue to use them until I get more time and patient.
