The electrician came by on time and looked at the issue, suggested a course of action and estimated the time it would take to fix the problem (they charge by the hour). The work was very good and the price was fair.

Contacted them the first time and scheduled an estimate session Friday before labor day weekend. The service person never came or contact. Second time around was able to schedule another estimate session for the next day. This time they called 30 minutes prior to the service person arrives. Rey the service person was very professional; he informed that he is not comfortable punching a hole on my garage roof as per my initial plan to install new attic fan there; but he can help to repair one of the attic fans on main house roof. He also has the exact motor to replace the current fan which must have failed for quite some time. He also makes sure he uses shoe guards to enter the house and clean up afterwards. Very quick, professional and courteous. Highly recommended.

I thought I was cursed with respect to electricians. Three friends had recommended electricians to me and for an unknown reason, none of them returned my calls. Why, I have no idea. After checking the reviews on Angie's list I decided to try Sugar Land Electric. I called on Friday morning and the dispatcher set up an appointment for me for Tuesday. Then, we had Tropical Storm Bill threatening and I feared that I was about to encounter yet another "Curse of the electrician". BUT, the rain held off my area, and I had a phone call from the dispatcher asking if the electrician could come a bit earlier than originally scheduled. I agreed, and Ray showed up soon thereafter. It was raining outside, and at the door he slipped on little covers over his shoes so not to track dirt into my house. Very considerate. He then proceeded to do all the work that I requested, and was willing to answer my questions, and asked for my input on possible choices, such as exactly where would I like the remote for the ceiling fan (the wall attachment holder), or where would I like the new electrical outlet placed. Everything went smoothly, and he charged me for the 3.25 hours that he was here (and I remembered to ask for my discount for being an Angie's list member). He didn't 'round up' on the time, but charged exactly for the hours worked. I'm very happy with the new ceiling fan he installed, and glad that the items that he fixed are working properly now. I have some other work I want to get done, and I'll definitely be giving Sugar Land Electric another call. Seems like the Curse of the Electrician has been lifted!
Description of Work: 1) install ceiling fan 2) install electric outlet in restroom 3) install light fixture 4) trouble shoot non working light in laundry area, identify problem, install new light fixture 5) fix non-working outdoor light Gave some advice

I'm getting ready to have them back for some more work. They did a fantastic job on that. They are really good. The fellow was very knowledgeable as to what to do. He ran wires from one end of my house to the other. I wouldn't have tried that myself. He was very cooperative. He got done with one light and then asked what else and I said let's go over here and I'd like one on this corner. He was excellent in what he did. I'm getting ready to call him back.

They did a great job installing the bathroom fan and it was done in less than an hour. The vent pipe for it was already in the attic and the previous owner had just removed and drywalled over where a fan previously was. I also had them inspect a sub panel that had been worked on by a previous electrician that had been recommended by my neighbor. I was not satisfied with the work the previous company had done and it looked like they had taken some short cuts. Sugar Land electric fixed some of the previous guys errors and all is well now. I will call Sugar Land electric again if I need electrical work done in the future. I highly recommend them.

Rey from Sugar Land Electric arrived today right on time at 8:00 am. We discussed several electrical issues I wanted information about - ie: the feasibility of doing the project(s) and the cost(s). He was honest and gave his professional advice. While here, he took care of some minor electrical things for me. I recommend Sugar Land Electric. Prompt, experienced and polite!

Thank you for the great review. As far as the price, I need to mention that to all new customer our price is going up. I was advised by the mayor pro-tem and the senior inspector of the city of Sugar Land that the reason many people call around for pricing and then do not call us back is because we are TOO LOW on our prices. They see other contractors at $125 to $200 an hour and think that because we only charge $89 that they will get a bad technician. I never considered that, so I have raised my prices to test out the theory. We'll see how it goes. In the meantime, I am glad you received great service for such a low price.

Well they spent 5 minutes to tell me that the wiring was the wrong gauge to change out the breaker to a higher amp. I gave them a B because they raised the price from the last time I used them and no one told me. I was expecting to pay 85- actually for the 5 minutes they spent you would think they would say no problem and waive the fee- that would have made me a customer for life because I do have other electrical work that needs to be done. But I had to spend 95 bucks or so for the 5 minutes of work. Every other company I have called to get quotes tells me upfront if they have a cost to come out.

Wow, what a surprise. You had me on the phone for 35 minutes talking about your problem. I am a Master Electrician, my time is valuable and you forgot all about that. In addition, my tech was there for 45 minutes. I looked at the van tracking and he pulled up to your house then left 45 minutes later. He charged you for an hour because that is our minimum that we have to charge to keep the doors open. It's not my fault that vehicle maintenance is expensive, that vehicle insurance is expensive, that workers comp is expensive, that advertising is WAY expensive, that taxes are expensive, that office rent and utilities are expensive, that technician wages are expensive, that good office people are expensive, that materials are expensive, that county taxes are expensive, and I don't even want to get started about health insurance for employees, not to mention maybe for me. And you complained about an $89 bill that diagnosed your situation. Come on, [member name removed], let's get into the real world here, please. You are a previous customer and I want to always have you call us, but it's expensive to operate a business these days, and also it's expensive to have the power to pick up the phone and command someone to arrive at your home at a certain time frame to perform the services that you need. That is your power, you have the power to make that happen, but it costs. So please, be a little kinder on your next review. We only charged $89 and our competition is charging anywhere from $125 to $200, so I feel cheap. I look at my competition and say, wow , I am in the wrong business, then I think, wait a minute , I am in the same business. Why don't I charge that much. Answer: my conscience. I can sleep at night. Thank you for choosing Sugar Land Electric. t

Ray researched and resolved the problems. He also installed 3 GFI outlets. He was very kind to my mother who was the one at home. She had many questions. He answered each one. She said that he was very kind and personable. Great job and service! We also asked for a quote for running a separate line to a dish washer. Dave gave a very reasonable quote. I am so glad to have found a company that takes pride in their work and service.

"Rey" was asked to look at two receptacles that did not work. He quickly realized that the cause was a circuit breaker that I had not understood would need to be reset to make those receptacles work. (I hasten to add that that breaker looked different than the others.) When I asked him if the breaker needed to be replaced, he said he did not think so, but did it because I requested it. He also explained that my circuit box, while old, is perfectly adequate and safe. Also at my request, he replaced a receptacle that was simply old, and that allowed things plugged into it to slip out. He was completely honest, did not try to sell me any services. And did not sneer at me for not knowing that I could reset that circuit breaker. I will definitely use Sugar Land Electric again, if needed.

Thank you for that nice review. It sounds as if you have used our competition previously. They try to sell your house back to you, right? We just fix what needs to be fixed. If we see stuff that might be a problem in the future we will bring it to your attention but won't use scare tactics like so many others. I know because I have had technicians come to work for me that have worked for those OTHER companies. They tell me they have to be more of a salesman than an electrician. Keep Sugar Land Electric on your "nice" list for the next time you have an issue. We will always treat you right and if you aren't satisfied, I really want to hear about it. Thank you again. Happy Holiday. Dave Kelsey, Owner, Sugar Land Electric.

They were quick to respond, I actually spoke to a live person instead of leaving a message. My first contact was with Dave and when I explained to him my needs, he said he could have someone over next morning. He explained to me about their 1-hour minimum service charge. Dave felt the technician would be able to complete the work in less than the minimum time. He encouraged me to ask the technician to check my breaker box for any issues. Tiffany (Dispatch Lady) called me the next morning to tell me that the technician was on his way. She was very polite during our brief conversation. Rey, the technician showed up at least 30 minutes before my scheduled appointment window which worked out great with my schedule. I explained to him that I needed several light switches replaced because they were sparking and that some were 3-way switches. He got to work right away instead of wasting time doing unnecessary tinkering just becasue he was on the clock. Rey finished replacing all the switches in less than one hour. He willingly walked with me through the entire home and checked every light switch to make sure there weren?t others that needed replacing. He opened the cover to the breaker box, inspected everything and showed me the good and the not so good but never got pushy with me to sell additional repairs. He volunteered to check the grounding cable outside the house and even replaced the old clip at no extra charge. Rey not only knew his electrical stuff, he showed me some of the Do?s and Don?ts that he had learned from his journeyman so I can safely do simple repairs myself. I liked the ownership approach Dave took with me from the get go. As it turns out, Dave is the owner and it shows. It was truly refreshing dealing with people who really care about their customers and are willing to go the extra mile to earn their trust and business even on small job like mine. I will definitely call Sugar Land Electric the next time I need electrical work done.

Thank you for that wonderful review. I am glad you put in so much detail because that is what good service is all about. I did notice from some of your terminology that you have had experience with some of those companies that try to sell you everything but the kitchen sink and make up false problems just to get you to spend more money. Those types of companies pay the electricians on commission so they try to get as much money as possible from you. You sound like a savvy consumer. We'll see you next time. Thanks again.

I called them because they had an ad in the Angie's List booklet, and were offering 10% off. When I called, the woman who answered the phone took my name, address, and phone number, and we discussed the work I needed done. When I saw this review I immediately asked my dispatcher if she remembered the call, and of course she said no. After looking at our past records I saw that these were previous customers so I knew it was not a case of the wrong company.. I told her to call and try to set up the appointment. I asked about it later and she said she left a voicemail. I called on Saturday and talked to Mr. [removed member name], I apologized for not taking care of his electrical needs, and assured him this will not happen again because I fired that dispatcher that afternoon (this wasn't the first case of not returning a call by her). You can't please all the people all the time but you can certainly get rid of the bad employees.

I was out of town on business and my wife called me in tears at 9:00 pm in the evening after the electrician had spent over 10 hours running a simple power cord 30 feet from a source to the pump in a small fountain in our back yard. When my wife questioned why it was taking so long and when he would be finished, he threatened to call the police to report that she was not going to pay him. She was scared and so she let him finish. She called the owner after the electrician presented her with a $1600 bill, which the owner agreed to settle for $1100, which was absurd for the size of the job. When I got home, I called to speak to the owner and he has not returned my call and I don't expect that he will, because he allowed his employee to bully a women who was alone at night and not sure of her rights when it comes to contractors and I don't think he would want to speak to someone whom he cannot bully.I strongly discourage anyone from using his services.

Response from Sugar Land Electric
At Sugar Land Electric we strive to please all our Angie's List customers but I have to ask the membership department to please block these people from using your service so they cannot abuse any more of your good contractors. Look at all the wonderful reviews we have and they gave us an F. In my opinion we should have been given an A+ for our diligence. The whole problem started because we were given the wrong information by the customer. We were told they needed a 15 foot ditch in the dirt. We blocked out an entire afternoon to do the work since a 15 foot ditch in dirt is usually a few hours to dig, put in the pipe, then backfill. When we get to the job, we find it is a 32 foot ditch, we had to cut out the grass so we could put it back, and we had to go under a brick patio. Obviously we couldn't do this job in one afternoon so we had to return on another day. At 8:00 the next morning the wife was calling, she was screaming at my receptionist and demanded to talk to the owner. During my conversation with her she was belligerent, rude, and extremely loud. She demanded that someone show up NOW and she would not accept any excuses. I explained to her that we would be back later in the day and she just screamed "that is unacceptable, I was told that you would be back here at 8:00 this morning!" I knew this was not true because our dispatcher had left at 5:00 the previous afternoon and at 8AM did not know about this job taking longer than originally allocated. I asked my technician if he told her we would be there at 8 and he only said we will try to get back tomorrow. They are taught to not do any dispatching. I asked her what is the difference if we are there this morning or this afternoon and she again screamed "I told you 4 times already, I am paying someone $15 an hour to sit my dog!" I told her I will deduct the extra time she pays the dog sitter off the bill and she calmed down a little bit. I said I will get someone over there as soon as possible. I managed to get an apprentice to the house by 11:00 but could not get the journeyman back until 1:30. I had to reschedule one of my regular customers just to get someone over to her house on this day. My technician called me 3 times during the afternoon and told me she was badgering him and not letting him work. She constantly came outside asking when they were going to be done and asking what is taking so long. Each time she did this he had to stop what he was doing to show her the work that has been done and explain what still needs to be completed. Obviously she did not notice all the roots in the ground that we had to dig through, the sprinkler system pipes and wires that had to be avoided, and the brick patio that we had to go under. At around 8:00 PM she came out again and told my tech that he should have been done 2 hours ago because they got the wires in the pipe 2 hours ago and they should have been done. He explained to her that he had to terminate the wires in junction boxes and put in the GFCI receptacle. She said it was taking too long and to get off of her property. The tech said he will do the paperwork so she could pay us for the work that has been done and she said "I'm not going to pay you anything." My tech explained to her that now he will have to call the police and report theft of services. She said go ahead and call and when he reached for his phone she told him just finish the job and I will pay you. He finished at 9:30 and presented the bill to her. The total was $1606 with tax. She said she was not going to pay that much. She would pay $1000. The tech called me and I told him to ask her for $1200 and we settled on $1100. As she was writing the check she screamed "oh my god, look at my yard!" Well, we had to dig a ditch 24" deep 32 feet long through roots and grass then put the grass back to near original condition. They did not have the compacting machine with them and the tech told her we will come back tomorrow to finish putting the cut out portion of grass level with the rest of the grass. According to both my tech and the apprentice the grass was sticking up one inch above the rest of the yard. Our dispatcher called the next morning to ask if we could get into the back yard at 1:00 to compact the grass and she was told no because no one was home. We were called later in the day and were told that the husband would be home by 3:00 so we can come over then. We loaded up the compacting machine and sent the apprentice that direction. The dispatcher called to let them know that we were on the way and the husband said "if anyone steps onto my property I will call the police," Hence, we did not return. The husband called back later and wanted to talk to me and said that the technician was bullying his wife. It turns out that when the tech told her he was going to call the police for theft of services, she considered that as bullying, brought on by her comment that she was not going to pay. It is my personal goal to do a good job for every single person. This is a small company where I personally know hundreds of my customers. 72% of all our jobs are repeat business or referrals.Even after giving these people a $500 discount they are not happy. We accommodated them to the point of losing other customers, my tech was severely overheated working in the hot afternoon sun, and they would not let us return to complete the grass. Apparently none of our efforts were of any value to this customer.

They were great. The electrician seemed really knowledgeable and friendly. We asked them to double check a few things and he did that as well for us so he kind of looked on the bigger problem, he wasn't just focused on getting a lot of things done and made sure all worked. I would recommend them. They were the fourth company that I called and they were the only ones that could come out that day and we really wanted someone to come out that day so that was helpful. I just like the friendly and knowledgeable service of the technician. I don't know if it was an excellent price or not but it seemed reasonable for the work they did.

An appointment was set up thru a call to the business a week prior to the service call. I explained that I had purchased the panel and circuit breakers already. Sugar Land Electric was acceptable to that and told me the charges would be time and materials. The technician was to arrive on Friday the 9th. Derek arrived around 10:00 am. I explained what I was wanting him to do which included fixing an external line that was run years earlier. I showed him where the panel was and turned over the parts I has purchased earlier. He opened the panel and told me I had purchased the wrong breakers. We discussed what type of breakers were required and as he began the process of taking the old panel down, I went to Home Depot (HD) to exchange the breakers for what Derek requested. It took several trips to HD as Derek explained the panel was somewhat smaller that the original panel and in order to load balance the panel we needed different breakers. As I like to learn about my home and what he was doing, he graciously explained everything in detail. The panel was disassembled and removed and the new panel fitted to the wall. All the wires were too short for the new box so Derek spliced the wires, twisted the ends and used wire nuts in order to assemble them into the new panel. The wires were cleanly arranged and the job looked very professional. Derek cleaned up the work site as though no one had been there. I would suggest to anyone wanting to do this to their home is when calling your contractor, let them come out to your home and let them do an assessment of what is there and have them supply the panel and breakers; that will keep you from having to run back and forth to the hardware store several times like I had to do.
Description of Work: My request was to replace the current electric panel that was original to the house with a new panel that I purchased at Home Depot.

They were fantastic. They showed up when they said they would. They did not charge or try to sell me anything extra. They told me what the sources were. I appreciated that because I really hate giving a self pitch. In Sugar Electric, I had their parts in Home Depot and use those parts and did not charge me for anything for those parts and put them in. I had so much which is replaced.
Description of Work: They did a general house inspection and left me with the fact that they did a really good job to fix all the problems.

We are very happy. They were prompt and professional. They did a good job. We are very happy to have lighting in our garage now.
Description of Work: They put up a new light fixture in our garage. They also wired two different light fixtures in the garage so that when we flip the switch the lights will come on at the same time with the same switch.
