I normally do not write reviews, but we were very disappointed with this overall experience, so I am compelled to leave one. We hired Mike to replace the grout in our master shower because it was crumbling out in the corner. We tried to replace it ourselves, but we were spending more time and money on it than we initially thought, so it seemed more efficient to just hire someone. Our home is only 7-8 years old, but the contractor used the wrong grout in there, so it essentially was like grinding out cement (even with the proper Dremel blade). Mike visited our home 5 times (including the bid on Aug 4), and the shower is still not completed. He came out and gave the bid quickly and efficiently and gave us a good price, but when we told him we wanted to hire him, it took a few weeks for them (he and his wife, Tabitha) to get back to us (Sept 15). When they did come on the first day, he only worked about 4-5 hours (despite the fact that he said it would be 1-1.5 days) and that included the time spent eating lunch that my husband bought for them. When I got home that day and my husband and I looked over it closely, we discovered how sloppy the workmanship was. There was dried grout on the tile in several places, the grout was uneven and had holes from air bubbles in places, the caulking around the tub was a colored caulk that we did not discuss and it appeared that he did not remove all the old caulk prior to re-caulking. It also was unclear whether he actually drilled out the old grout as discussed and re-grouted. We e-mailed Mike and he said that he did re-grout, but that he used a colored epoxy grout to ?stain? the grout to blend in more with the tub, and that he went and did the tub to match it. This was not the method we initially discussed. We wanted him to drill out the old grout (or enough of it), re-grout using a colored sanded grout of our choice, and then seal the new grout (should have been a simple job for a professional). He was very apologetic and he and his wife came out to review the work and discuss our plans (visit #3), and he admitted to rushing through the original job and wanted to make it right. He and his wife then came back on a Saturday to go over everything and repair the messy job (visit #4). After that visit, everything looked MUCH better ? still not 100% perfect, but we were looking forward to be finished and were happy with things. We used the shower a few days later, allowing plenty of time for the new caulking to dry, and the new white caulk that they put in (visit #4) started coming off the bottom of the shower! I texted them, and again they were apologetic and said they would come fix it. Mike came back out (visit #5) and said that he fixed the caulk, but he was there for all of 5 minutes and gave a quick explanation and left. I did not really understand, but he seemed like he wanted to leave, and I honestly was too tired of everything to push for more info. I used the shower 1 time, and the caulk was coming off again in the same spot (indicating it was never properly applied in the first place). At this point I was so angry that I texted Mike?s wife, Tabitha, and told her that they are very nice people but I was very disappointed and that I would finish the job myself. I have since removed most of their caulk using acetone and a razor blade, and the original caulk that he never removed. It is now mid-November, and because of our busy Fall schedule, we have still not completely finished the shower yet (hence the need for a professional in the first place). Unfortunately, we would not re-hire him at all at this point. Like I said before, they are super nice people, and I know that his father is battling cancer so they are dealing with a lot right now, but at the same time, when you hire a professional to complete a project, you expect it completed on time, within budget, and of professional quality. This was none of those things.
Description of Work: He was supposed to drill out the old grout in the shower (or enough of it), re-grout the shower using a colored sanded grout of our choosing, and seal the new grout. Also needed to completely remove the old caulking in most of the shower and re-caulk.
