Description of Work: I asked this particular provider for a quote to rebuild a mailbox that a car had run into. All of the original bricks save 1 or 2 were in tact, so I wanted to reuse the old materials. The contractor didn't even come to inspect or ask for a picture, but just sent a quote for $900 that included $250 for demolition and hauling the old materials away, even though I specified that we wanted to reuse the old materials.

Description of Work: Two tasks: reaffix stonework to front steps; remove old mortar and replace on bricks on home. | |Pros: |Owner is friendly and responsive. |Front step work was fine. |Cost was about $100 lower than next lowest bid. | |Cons: |Failed to follow my instructions to call me before starting to assure I could be there. Owner sent his team out the day I accepted the bid, and just went at it. | |First pass of the job was completely unsatisfactory. Team didn't remove old mortar, missed 90% of the areas needing service, didn't color-match mortar, allowed mortar wash on surrounding bricks. | |Owner apologetic and acknowledged work was sub-par. Returned to redo it. In general did a good job, but insisted that a few areas of major repairs had the mortar removed and were done correctly initially. Well, the thin layer of mortar is falling off now, 8 months later.

[Member name removed], I think you must be mistaken. I haven't preformed a job in Melissa in a few years. And I have no record doing a job for you. Maybe someone else is using your Angie's List account.

Description of Work: Palomo Masonry (Pablo) did a great job, courteous & on time. My brick home was developing cracks in the mortar and the bricks had actually come out and away from the walls. Did a neat job, cleaned up after themselves and did a good job matching the older color of mortar. Very pleased with them and would use them again.

Description of Work: He was very quick to return my phone call, and once I explained what we needed, he was very helpful and professional in telling me that our work fell outside of his area of expertise. He was very helpful in trying to direct me to the right kind of company to call. If I need anything done that he does, I'll definitely call him back for an estimate.

Description of Work: Karlo came by the same day of my call and followed up several days later with a written estimate via email. Very professional. His estimate at $150 was the most competitive and I wish that I had opted for his work; I had assumed that his estimate would have been about what I was charged by another company that wanted to do the work the same day that they came out to do the estimate, one day before I got the estimate back from Karlo--I opted for the other company as I would be out of town for the next several weeks and wanted to be there when the work was done. Had I had a bit more flexibility and patience I would have saved about $100 with Karlo. Nevertheless, from the other reviews and having met with Karlo himself, the owner, I suspect that his company offers some of the best value and performance for masonry repairs.

It didn't.
Description of Work: I don't know what it is about so many of the service people in the DFW area, and I think many might be pretty good at what they do, but the majority are either ignorant of or choose to ignore basic principles of business communication and customer service. This company has good ratings for most of the work they do. However, their responsiveness to customer inquiries and communication skills are pitiful. I called the owner of Palomo Masonry three times. The first time I spoke with him, gave him my name, address, and phone number, and was promised a return call the following week to set up an appointment. No call. Two subsequent calls to Palomo went to voice mail in the next week. No response. Having owned several businesses in the past, I find this puzzling. If the owner is too busy to do the work, or has more lucrative jobs that he needs to complete first, I understand. What I don't understand is his making no attempt to return calls from a potential customer.

I called Karlo on Monday morning 6/6/2010. Karlo was at my house that evening and gave me an estimate. Karlo came out to my house the very next day 6/7/2010 and completed the work. I would add that you can't even tell I ever had an issue with my archway now. My experience with Karlo was excellent and I would give him an A+ overall if it was available. I called several masons found on this site. Karlo is the only one that - 1) took my call and discussed my issue and 2) came out to give an estimate that same day. In addition, he gave me regular updates on what to expect. PALOMO MASONRY is top notch in my book.
Description of Work: The mortar holding the stone over my archway had broken loose. As a result, some of the stone was hanging down and looked as if it was about to fall. This archway is about 12ft high and is over the entrance that leads to my front door.

Quality work done on schedule.
Description of Work: Outside house wall was damaged by vehicle. Repair consisted of 16 linear feet of brick that was 2 feet high with a decorative cap. Mr. Palomo provided the brick and started on schedule. His company was one of many from a list of contracts provided by Gartex Masonry & Supply (they provide the list to help you locate a Mason but do not guarantee the work of anyone on the list), however after calling several companies, his was the only company that returned my calls, seemed interested in provided an estimate and then actually followed up.
