You don't often find professionals like the two individuals who fixed our breakers from Trim Electric. They were prompt, professional, and most importantly...COMPETENT. I was dreading the bill and the problem was taken care of so quickly and efficiently, for such a reasonable amount that I'm still amazed there are still professionals like them around.
Description of Work: I couldn't be more pleased with Trim Electric. My washing machine wouldn't work. I actually had one of the larger electric companies look at our problem and had to pay an estimate/diagnosis bill. The first company charged me 178.00 to tell me it wasn't the outlet and that it was in the wall somewhere. The young man then explained he wasn't an electrician and I would now have to call the company back to have the electrician come out. I had a recommendation from a subcontractor who was working on our pool for Trim. Their recommendations on Angie's List were sterling and I was able to get an appointment within a few hours. They were prompt and professional, fixing the breaker switch and tightening the other breakers in less than 45 minutes for pennies compared to what the larger electrician was going to charge. We have an older upscale home, and I will definitely be calling them again as the need arises! These guys are great!

Very satisfactory -- job completed in a very professional manner. Didn't leave a mess for me to clean up. Will use them again if necessary.
Description of Work: They installed a whole-house surge protector. The surge protector is of very high quality (based on numerous on-line reviews) and was priced reasonably. The technician (Reuben) showed up right on time and completed the work quickly and efficiently. The installation looks very professional, flush with the wall, and they left no mess. He gave me all of the manuals for the surge protector.

Michael and Marco arrived at the time they said they would. They had called us prior to arrival. They had to go to get a part for the kitchen light. That part was defective. So they went out to get another one - and did not charge us for the time. They completed the work to our satisfaction and cleaned up after themselves. They were both friendly and courteous. At the time of payment, that told us about a discount coupon for Angie's List members. We didn't know about that. That saved us $20.00. We were very satisfied with their services and would use them again without any question.
Description of Work: Replaced kitchen under-counter light fitting and exterior GFI outlet.

Marco and Ruben arrived at 9 am and asked us what we wanted. We showed them and they measured and got right to work. They were professional and very pleasant to work with. They covered their work area and cleaned up after themselves. They finished the job by 11:30 and left things looking great. The lights are now clean and give more light, plus we can get to them if we ever need to change the bulbs we'll be able to reach them. The best thing was the price. I called another company recommended here on Angie's List and they wanted over $1500 to do the job!! I was so shocked I didn't know what to say! They don't charge by the hour, but by the item, and that $1500 included a $218 charge just to bring the ladder into the house. That's utterly ridiculous!! I wish people would quit hiring companies that charge like that. Plus they want you to join their "service plan" for a fee and that gets you a 10% discount. Even with a 10% discount the prices are still exorbitant. Trim charged me a reasonable price per half hour, and the total came to $321.24 with tax. How's that for a price difference?! The other company may have a lifetime guarantee and a fancy website, but TRIM has won me over as a lifetime customer. I'll never call that other company again!
Description of Work: I hired Trim Electric to lower two small chandeliers in the two story foyer of our home. They were too high to reach with a 10 foot ladder, so they had not been cleaned since we moved into the house. Also, because of their height, they did not give out enough light to the lower areas.

Thank you so much for a very nice and thorough review! We have had many potential clients that get worried about "Time & Material" pricing because they have burned before but what we've seen is that many of our competitors give you up front guaranteed pricing but the pricing is outrageous! We have a secret to share with all of you who are reading this review.. our guys are Electrician's first, not salesmen. Our guys show up and need to get right to work - they don't need to squeeze the client and sell them everything under the sun. That said our electrician's WILL point out electrical code violations because Safety is important. Thanks again for the nice review!

Description of Work: Trim discussed problem over phone, suggested solution and alternatives and was at house within one hour. Two technicians were very competent, professional and a pleasure with which to deal. Service provided was to troubleshoot and diagnose non-functioning circuits. Action was to replace circuit breakers and breaker box.

Everything was great. I forgot to ask how much the service would cost when I called. My only "complaint" is that the rates weren't told to me when I called....or when the electrician was here. I asked the electrician before he started. I didn't ask for an estimate...I just wanted all the items fixed. The rates were very competitive so it all worked out....just a thought for future people that call.
Description of Work: We bought our house in the Houston area about 7 months ago. (The house was only 7 years old) Our inspector noted several items that should be fixed (nothing major). After living in the house for 7 months, several electrical items happened. Since we are new to the Houston area, we don't know anyone. I have used Angie's list exclusively for all our home projects that need to get done. Trim Electric came out on time and fixed all the little electrical issues. The outside lights kept tripping because water kept getting into the outside boxes. The electricians were great to work with and talked me through the entire process. They also installed a whole house surge protector and rewired the box so it would fit. They fixed the outside lights (the wires weren't installed properly and shorted out) and also fixed the outside light timer to house.

Thanks for the very thorough review. Most of our work is done on a "Time & Material" basis, but you do have the option of having an estimator come out and give you a free estimate. For those people reading this review please feel free to ask for our labor rates when you call our offices. Our receptionist or dispatcher will give them to you upon request. I can't say enough good things about my experience with this company. My house was hit by lightening and I was already stressed beyond imagination by the time I contacted the company. I made it very clear that I didn't trust contractors and was furious that I even had to deal with them. I have been horribly burned by contractors in the past. From the time the electrician showed up, I knew I was in good hands. He was professional, extremely knowledgable, and focused on his work. For the first time since I've owned this house, the electrical is now up to code. He went around and examined everything. He even found work that had been done by my pool guy that was not up to code and he fixed it. He also pointed out a couple of things in the attic that didn't have anything to do with electrical, but could have been dangerous. There have been many repairman in the attic and none of them bothered to point these things out. I was so impressed with this man. He spent the entire day, working on my house. When the day was done, I was scared to death to see the bill. I just knew it was going to be horrible, but I had no choice. He handed me an invoice with an entire page of items that had been repaired. At the bottom of the invoice, it said $1,192.22. I thought that was more than fair! As much as I dislike contractors, I'm going to have to reconsider my outlook after dealing with this company. Why can't all contractors be this honest??!!! And this knowledgable and focused????!!!!!! I HIGHLY recommend this company!!!!
Description of Work: My house was hit by lightening. The repairs included replacement or repair to just about all low voltage items, many outlets, switches, etc. Also, installation of a ground rod and home surge protector.

You are very kind. Nothing makes us feel better than having satisfied customers! We do things quite a bit different than most contractors and your kind words let us know that we are staying on the right track. Most of our service work is still performed on a "time & material" basis which is definitely different from being shown a menu of choices. If you are shown a menu then 99% of the time you are dealing with a tech that makes a majority of his compensation in the form of commission. Our guys are fully licensed electrician's who make it a priority to point out code violations and correct them and not to sell you a list of items on a menu.... Thanks again for giving us such a nice review! I do want to add that we also give free quotes should you need to add lighting fixtures or do additional electrical work in the future. Sincerely, Trim Electric Staff

I needed the electrical outlets moved up out of my 2 year old sons reach as we moved him to his new bed. They came the next day and were able to to the work in 20 minutes. Plus, they came in exactly on budget and with the Angie's list coupon I saved $20! They even vacuumed the room after they were done. If my husband can't figure out what is wrong with the light in the living room I will be calling them next week!

In Nov of 2010, we contracted with Trim Electric for over 2000 dollars worth of electrical work in our 20 year old home. We selected Trim based on positive online reviews and because of the 1 year, 100% guarantee they have on all labor and materials (as stated on the website). Of the work they did, they installed 2 outside coach lights and wired them into an existing timer-controlled switch in our foyer. A few weeks after having these lights installed, the timer stopped working. Trim sent out an electrician who spent a few minutes removing the timer, glanced in the hole with a flash light, and said the timer must have "worn out." He replaced the timer with a simple switch. We were billed over $200. When I called to ask why we were being billed over $200 for the repair, I was informed the issue was not covered under warranty. I told the lady I spoke with I was happy to pay for the materials, but that I felt being billed for the labor was unfair as they had been the ones who wired the timer a few weeks before it "wore out". I also told her "if we are forced to pay for the labor, we will find another electrician for our future needs". We were then told we would not be charged for the switch or the labor. I assumed this meant Trim Electric valued their customers & were willing to hold fast to their 100% parts and labor guarantee in order to keep them. I was mistaken.A few months after the switch was replaced, our outside lights stopped working all together. In addition, when we tried to turn them on, it would flip the breaker in our foyer, master bathroom, & our son's room upstairs. We found this extremely troubling and immediately called Trim to schedule another service appointment. We were told they were "very busy" and to find another electrician if we needed the issue addressed immediately. Despite having no outside working lights, I wanted Trim to address the problem because they had installed the lights, and we felt this was covered under their 1 year warranty. The calling and being told to call back or find another electrician continued for over 4 months before I became suspicious. It took several more phone calls to find out that our customer file had been marked for no future service. You read correctly. Our customer filed had been marked for "NO FUTURE SERVICE" in their computer system. When we asked why, we were told it was because we had not been willing to pay for the labor when they repaired the broken timer (that they had wired) with a switch. My husband became involved at this point, and we filed a formal complaint with the BBB. We were finally able to get in touch with the company owner, Joe Palumbo. At no point when we called to schedule service were we informed we had been black listed....it was their protocol in our case to simply delay service until the customer loses interest and finds another electrician, or, in our case, until the 1 year warranty runs out. It was a complete accident that we were able to find out we had been black listed in time to do anything about it.We are still in conversations with Trim to fix the issue at hand, and if need be will take legal action. In the mean time, we have no outside lights, and several thousand dollars of work that is no longer covered by their "guarantee" because we insisted they replace a timer they had wired for the price of the part only. Update added 11/11/11: Trim had to remove the timer and re-install it at the time the new lights and wiring were added. As stated before, we were happy to pay for the part because we understood the actual timer was not covered under warranty, however, we were under the impression that the labor they performed to remove and re-install the timer WAS covered, and that is why we were surprised to have been charged for the repair labor. In addition, we were recently told by Trim that they WOULD work with us, but would only put us on the schedule if we removed our negative comments from the internet. We told them that we would be happy to take down any negative reviews when they came out to inspect the wiring. They said "that's not how this is going to work", they told us we had to remove our reviews or they wouldn't come out. In my entire life, I have only posted one other negative review about a service provider, and, as in this situation, it was a well founded review. In addition, I have posted a number of positive product and service reviews, so I am uncertain why Trim has fabricated information to the contrary. Nothing I have posted in this review or any other has been untrue or fabricated, so I'm also uncertain why we have been accused of slander, unless Trim interprets negative reviews as slanderous. We are disappointed this situation was not able to be resolved amicably.

This client has actively slandered our company on Angie's List and many other review sites after not paying us for work that was performed! In her own words "Of the work they did, they installed 2 outside coach lights and a recessed light on our front porch and wired the three lights into an existing timer in our foyer. A few weeks after having these lights installed, the timer stopped working. We called to Trim and asked them to fix the issue, assuming it was covered under warranty. They sent out an electrician who said the timer was broken and replaced it with a standard switch. Then he handed us a bill for over $200." The client did not want to pay for work that was not under warranty - She mentioned something very important - "Existing timer", after making sure that the wire was not faulty we determined that the timer was broken and installed a switch. How can a timer that we did not install fall under our warranty?" After doing some investigation of our own we found out that this client never posts positive reviews but she does plenty of negative reviews online. As you can see from most of our reviews on Angie's List and elsewhere, we work very hard to make sure that our clients are extremely happy with our service and for this reason we have been in business for over 30 years and have A+ or 5 star ratings at most review sites! We will not be held hostage by a client that does not pay for services performed and then slanders us across all of the major review sites.

We discussed options for dedicating an electrical line for the sprinkler system. He completed the work that would be the least expensive to me. Both air conditioners out. Called Trim after air conditioner repair guy told us it was a bad circuit breaker. Called dispatch for emergency call and explained that my elderly mom is sick and cannot be moved. Was told someone would call me right away. No return call.
Description of Work: Called for emergency service. No return phone call.

We apologize for not returning your call immediately! We have had to hire a new receptionist recently to help with our call volume. It is our policy to call emergency calls back immediately and to not allow persons to remain on hold for longer than a minute. Please consider us in the future; you will not be disappointed!
