Mike helped guide me through the complicated claims process whenever a large pine tree fell on my house and caused structural roof damage. The insurance company did not want to pay at first and underestimated by claim by more than 75%. Through Mike’s diligent efforts over multiple months, we were able to receive our full requested estimate from the insurance carrier! When we were able to start work, repairs went smoothly and quickly. The repairs involved structural repairs to the roof, roof replacement, sheetrock hanging and repair, porch replacement/repairs, brick repair, fan replacement, interior and exterior painting, and gutter replacement. The repairs were what I consider to be a very large job. The crew cleaned up after itself and took great care of my home. The crew was at my home from the morning until the evening and rarely stopped. I was pleased with their level of workmanship, and my home looks even better than it did before the tree fell! Mike always responded to my questions and always provided the information I needed for the claim. He is very fair and very honest. I would not trust anyone else with a large repair job/remodel for my home. I would recommend Mike and his crew to any neighbor, friend, or family. While having a tree fall on my home was far from a good memory, Mike was absolutely the best part of the process in restoring our home.

I personally would not use STT again. I had damage from the freeze and took the opportunity to do some much-needed upgrades. Mike is friendly but I was told the project would take 3 weeks, which everyone told me to double, it ended up taking 10 weeks. I was living in my home during the remodel - there were A LOT of no-call no-shows from his employees. Most of the time it seemed Mike didn't know if someone was going to show up from one day to the next. His right-hand man has his own contracting business and this man seems to actually be in charge of all the little things, like drywall, electric, plumbing etc. But he puts his own contracting business first every time. The majority of the no-shows were this man and his team because they were working on some other big project. My $65,000 apparently didn't warrant their attention. Mike never once apologized for the delays or the mistakes that were made. He never once said simply "I'm sorry I know this sucks". Instead he told me I was micro-managing him because I sent reminders of the little things that still hadn't been done. My faucets were put on incorrectly and for 4 weeks after my project was finished they still weren't fixed and then when Mike was looking for final payment he said he would fix them. He had been to my house 3 times in that time and never once offered to fix them. There were a handful of things like this that I now have to fix on my own because I do not want to work with Mike anymore. It should have been handled by them before they walked away from my project but it wasn't. Lastly, I was very explicit when I told him that I couldn't make final payment until we got the payout from insurance, I was getting assistance with the final payment and until I had the insurance figured out I wouldn't know how much I needed to borrow. I practically begged for him to get the insurance paperwork figured out because I had to leave town for work for 3 weeks, I tried my hardest getting him to give me what I needed so I wouldn't leave him hanging before I left for my trip. Needless to say I wasn't given the information and he blamed me for not being able to pay his guys. I wrote him the check but he just couldn't cash the last $7k until I returned. Also, I was given a second quote once my choices were finalized. It was only a piece of paper that got lost in the shuffle of the demo, but I think some things weren't handled professionally. The prices seemed to change. As far as the actual work, the floors and cabinets were done nicely. The painting was mediocre, but the tile guy was truly a star. His work was absolutely beautiful.
Description of Work: Kitchen & Bathroom Remodel and New Floors
Things went smooth. I was given Mikes name and number from my neighbor after he did some work at their home. I was really unsure if the insurance company would agree to replace my roof or not since it was previously denied but once Mike got on to the roof with the adjuster he was able to get it approved. We couldn’t be happier and the roof looks amazing. While onsite we asked about flooring and he was able to not only do our roof but also ripped out all the carpet and replaced it all with gorgeous wood floors and tiles at entryway and the most amazing granite kitchen countertops. Very pleased.

After initial work was completed in 2013, there have been continuous leaks in several places that needed to be repaired on the flat roof. Unfortunately, the last remaining leak in the dining room has not been corrected after several attempts over 1 1/2 year. I have repeatedly contacted the contractor and have not been able to get the repairs completed or the interior work on the wall where the water damage occurred to be fixed. This has been a prolonged situation and the contractor does not respond immediately which has caused extreme inconvenience. There is a 10 year guarantee for the work done which covers any needed repair work, however I have not been able to get the necessary repairs done to full satisfaction. At this point, I would not recommend SST Roofing & Construction to provide any quality work or proper customer service.

Response from SST Roofing & Construction Southern Seal of TX
[Member Name Removed] how can my price be graded a C when The Insurance company set the price of your roof claim? [Member Name Removed], In response to your April 15, 2015 letter I have gone above and beyond to address your issues regardless if they had any direct correlation to the contract I had with you. I have done so to make you happy to no avail. I have never been in a position where someone is so unhappy and combative about anything and everything. However to address the issue you talk about in your April 6th, 2015 email I answer the below: First and foremost my contract with you states under LIMITS of LIABILITY "except as referenced on the Company's written workmanship warranty (or on the manufacturer's warranty set forth above), the roofing system provided for in this contract is sold "As-is" and without any liability to the owner for consequential damages. Company shall have no liability beyond repair of said roof. The owner must notify within 72 hours of the discovery of any leak, and shall take reasonable and immediate action to avoid any further damage. Owner agrees to hold company harmless of any interior or exterior damage to its home, specifically including environmental damages such as "mold" resulting from water leak. Upon receipt of notice of a need for repair, Company will send a representative to inspect and investigate any reported leak. More than One inspection may be necessary to isolate the cause. It is the responsibility of the owner to provide acceptable times and dates for such inspection and access to the roof for same. With regard to completed repairs, Company shall have no warranty liability except for the roof area(s) upon which company preformed repair work to as agreed upon in this contract. During replacement of flashing, siding adjacent to the flashing which has deteriorated may crack, break or tear. Company will make every reasonable effort to avoid damage, but will not be held responsible for any damage to siding or other related consequential damages. With that being said I have fulfilled my contractual obligation to locating any said leaks that you indicate are coming from your roof. I have gone above and beyond to make additional repairs specifically interior repairs that I was not contractually obligated to do. Those repairs I have done at a financial lose to my company. All parties that have been directly or indirectly pertaining to your home have been incredibly accommodating to you. The last time I went to your home to check/repair a roof leak was in Mid-March of 2015.During that inspection I shared with your brother the information I gathered and showed him pictures of what I thought to be the issue. You stated in your letter of April 6th 2015 quote "I don't understand how you would be able to "see the source" if you are never on site when the leakage takes place". I don't know of any roofing company that will be there when there is a down pour, however in my attempts to locate the leak I did a water test and during that inspection your brother was present. During the visit I brought a hose onto the roof and performed a 'water test'. I first tested the skylight thoroughly and then the surrounding area of the roof. I went inside your home and checked the sheet rock below the skylight and above the French doors. I went back on the roof and re-inspected the area again and noted a spot where the Plexiglas and the roof/skylight meet that had a small crack in it, most likely due to wind fluctuating or foundation issues moving the Plexiglas. I filled this area with some sealer and I felt this addressed the issue if in fact this was the issue. If the cracked area was caused by wind and wind fluctuating at the Plexiglas than the leak is not covered on the original work done or by any warranty. If you go back and read the contract and the work scope addendum you will see that the Plexiglas was not part of my contract. It is not common that the coating would crack since it is a rubber based product. I showed this to your brother this via pictures I took and told him all the areas that were dry. I did note and show him the collection of water above the French door trim and felt this was mostly likely caused by the crack above that again I coated for you at a financial lose to my company that was not covered under contract or warranty. You have had a longstanding issue with water damage in the area above the French doors that was visible. Prior repairs were attempted specifically in this area by other contractors or yourself and those attempts were not successful before I ever did any work to your home. You had told me on at least one occasion that you had someone put silicon in the corner to stop the leaking and that your French doors have adjusted due to water damage and possible foundation issues. We have taped and floated cracks in your sheetrock in two separate areas in your home. One in your living area and one in kitchen. Weeks later we came back and had to redo those cracks and we discussed at that point again that there could be a foundation issue with your home and it would be advisable to have that looked at. We were not contractually responsible to fix those areas but we did so at a financial lose. At this time I feel have met my contractual obligations and have gone above and beyond at a financial lose to my company by doing work for you that was not part of warranty. I believe we can both agree that there have been time where our schedules conflicted and you were not available for scheduling. And we can both agree that your home is not a brand new and it is around 30 years old so there might be other issues that are not roof related that is causing cracks both interior and exterior and could very well be the source of leaks. Bare in mind that some leaks are found by process of elimination and with time and Mother Nature NEW damage can occur and are not covered under this particular warranty. If there is still a roof leak; then yes it is my job to try to find it and fix it which I have attempted to do and have done for different leaks in different areas on your flat roof area only. This is not an issue of one particular leak in one area that has been continual as you have worded it to be. At this time is your house still leaking? Or are you just wanting the sheet rock repaired?
