Selph Made Wooden Privacy Fences

It went very well. Selph's owner, Tony Selph, was very responsive and his crew was very professional. They solved a problem that developed during the process and we were very satisfied with the end result. We would hire them again. They communicated with us very well, they cleaned up the job site, were friendly and helpful, answering all our questions, etc. The end product is something we can be proud of and pleased with for years to come.

We got a competitive bid and it was about the same. It was competitive. It is not exceptionally cheaper than anybody but we didn't want cheaper than anybody. They didn't charge. They didn't ask for it nor did I pay it. It's brothers and that was part of my decision to go with them. they are a small company and I get the idea they are committed to providing quality workmanship. That was my impression and that became my reality.

I think we got out money's worth. The entire project was very professionally done. The field installers were quite accommodating and considerate. They made sure we were getting quality work done. They eliminated pickets that were not up to their standards that were on the job. They did a very professional job and were very courteous.

I got a prompt quote from Tony and the repairs were done on time baring a small weather delay. Very friendly and professional team who came out and replaced! I would highly recommend Tony and his teams. His quote was not the cheapest, but he uses quality materials.

Quality of work performed was excellent once it was done. Project was delayed by me once and by contractor twice. Customer focus was lacking - I had to initiate all contact to find out why there were delays and why project materials were not being delivered as advised. If I use them again (and I may) I will not give them money up front and will insist on better communications.

From bidding through construction everything was done as well as possible.

Working with the Selph's was extremely easy and professional. Their 2-man work crew did a fantastic looking, professional job. We were very pleased with the work performed. Punctuality of the 2-man work crew was not a strong suit, but the quality of the work done made up for the frustration of work crew's timeliness. We especially liked the use of brackets vs. angled nails, how well the gate was constructed and the sturdiness of using a three board base railing structure vs the previous two board railing. Pricing was very competitive with others that used angled nail, two board rail system.

I had previously worked with Tony, and had a good experience. I called and got a call back within a good time. We discussed the project, but couldn't originally agree on a time, so we agreed I would send him the measurements for a rough quote. Did this, however, I then realized the project had a bit of a twist (there is a deck in my backyard which sits flush to the fence) and Tony wanted to make sure he was giving the correct quote and would need to see the fence/work site. I agreed this was reasonable. We agreed to meet on a Wednesday at 10 to 10:30AM. I stayed home and didn't get a call or have anyone show up. At about 10:40AM, I called Tony who told me he wasn't in the area and misplaced the card where he wrote down our appointment. He told me, however, that he'd be in Katy the enxt day (I live in the West side of Houston) and he could drop by to take the measurements himself and call me with any questions. I agreed to this. I didn't hear anything on Thursday, and then I e-mailed him on Friday. He told me he meant to go out Friday (was originally supposed to be Thursday), but had an emergency with a utility line. Said he could come out on Monday, but understood if I wanted to cut ties. I agreed it would be best to no longer pursue the transaction, since it seemed like I would have a hard time giving him my money - and that I'll just complete the project myself. He responded with "Good luck". Definitely disappointing since the previous fence his company built was good. Perhaps he's gotten too busy, and my job was a small one compared to the others.

I constantly called this company for a quote. They were highly unresponsive to me. Finally received a quote for $5,500 without a single word being spoken to me regarding the estimate. I would not use them as they had ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE.

Great experience and great work done. They came when they said they would and finished quickly. New fence looks great.

It went well. We had some delays with the recent heavy rains we've experienced, but Tony kept in good communication with me, which was nice. The guys arrived as scheduled and replaced about 100' of fence and posts with new cedar fencing in one day. The new fence is well made and looks great. A big improvement over what was replaced.

(I'm re-submitting this review because it still shows as 'draft' even though I submitted it two years ago). Project went very well. Communication with Tony was prompt and the guys showed up on time and finished the project in one day - removal of old fence and installation of new posts and new western red cedar fencing. About 110 ft of fencing was replaced which included my property and two neighbors. The finished product looks great.

Tony and his team were a pleasure to work with. My project occurred around the time of the floods in Houston in June and July. Fence materials were very difficult to find, so my project was delayed a few weeks. Tony kept me informed of the status and how he was trying to locate materials. Once materials were found his crew did a beautiful job. Me and my neighbor couldn't be more pleased! I highly recommend Selph Made Fences.

Tony, the owner, was very accommodating. As far as the job itself, I'd give it an A+. They did a great job, the fence looks great. It only took them 2 days to do it. Their lead crew member, Jose, was also very professional and very good.

I probably would use them in the future.

I called Selph Made Fences, leaving a detailed message in the morning on what it was that I needed. Received a call back later that evening on my way to work, unable to answer at the time. I called again the next morning, left a voicemail. Received call back from Selph, I began to explain my project. He then asks what do you need, I felt, quite rudely. He then started asking questions about what I wanted, even though I previously left a detailed voicemail. I requested he come out to take measurements, give an estimate and inform him of specifications as required by my home owners association. Finally he tells they only do big jobs or full fence installs. I felt like he could care less about my job. Not going to work with this company.

We needed to replace our old and rotted privacy fence that we had behind our pool. We had asked a neighbor's landscaper, who we saw building a fence, to give us a quote. After 45 mins of agreeing with us, it was clear he had no idea what we wanted and was trying to push us into something? well, sucky. After saying ?Thanks, no thanks,? I got online to start researching fence builders. I found Selph Made Fences by looking up on Angies List and Home Advisor. This company has great ratings and reviews, but what really caught my eye was the way their company services were worded on the site: "Cedar fences. That's what we build. Built a bunch of decks too. We don't cut grass, we don't landscape, we don't do roofing. We build cedar fences. After your yardman tells you he can build your fence. Call me before you let him." Loved it. I didn?t look any further. We called and made an appointment. Al, Tony's brother was doing the estimate. He contacted us when he was on his way with an ETA. Al spent a good amount of time with us, took down the information for the fence we wanted. Great guy. Very personable. We liked him quite a bit. We were contacted later that evening with a quote, which was reasonable. We agreed to it and we were good to go. Al came back out later and went over the specifics and provided a deposit. They contacted 811 ("Call before you dig") to come out and have the property checked and marked identify gas, power and utility lines first. (Your lawn guy isn?t going to do that, people.) This was so very important, because as it turns out, the gas line ran much, much closer to the fence then we ever thought, and if this had not been done, the potential for a cut gas line would have been a very real and dangerous possibility. As this line is shared, our neighbors would have also suffered for the lack of due diligence. The day of the build had to be moved due to ridiculously heavy and consistent rains, but it is something we totally understood. Our yard was soup anyway. Jose Hernandez was the foreman for our project. Jose is a Master Carpenter. He and his assistant (I?m sorry! I forgot his name!) were here on time. Jose took a look at the old fence and the area, asked questions, provided options and professional opinions. They then proceeded to cut down the old fence. Once it was down, Jose identified where the posts would go and had run a line showing where and how the fence would run. He then provided a few more options on what he could do based on what we wanted. We had wanted one thing, but due to the space and layout, it would have looked awkward, and not even. Jose pointed that out, but gave us the option of the original plan or another which would be more balanced. What I absolutely loved about this was is that he asked all the right questions, had figured out what could and could not be done based on the environment and what he had to work with, instead of immediately starting to build, forcing it to work and potentially having an end result that wasn't what we wanted. I told him this later on and he said, ?you have to think and plan it out first. You place the holes for the gate. You don?t build the gate for the holes.? A true professional. I worked from home that day and had a great view of the progress through the window. By observing Jose confirming lines, levelness, checking angles and for flaws throughout the day, the level of commitment to excellence was obvious. I was thrilled. The construction was well thought out, and strong. Superb workmanship. When finished they totally cleaned up after themselves, and left nothing but a gorgeous new fence. We are so very happy with our new fence, with Selph Made Fences and especially with Jose. We honestly cannot recommend them enough. If you are reading this and waffling between a few fence companies, and using reviews to make your decision, stop right now. Call them. Immediately. Seriously, do it. Selph Made Fences did an outstanding job! They initially came out and gave me a very competitive quote, with everything that I needed outlined in detail, for me to review. Once I accepted their proposal, they set the process in motion very quickly, and kept me up to date on the progress of the materials order and the scheduled build. We had an issue with 811 not coming out and flagging the lines for digging, and Tony, the owner, called me personally to let me know what next steps were regarding scheduling. Once they came out, they demolished the old fence and constructed the new one on ONE DAY! The end result is so beautiful, that I literally wanted to sit outside and look at it for the rest of the day. These gentlemen are first-class in customer service and workmanship. I would recommend them to any and everyone.

First I called Tony Selph to get a quote to replace 10.5 feet of cedar fencing with a gate. He answered immediately and set an appointment for the next day. He was exactly on time. He measured the fence and explained what materials would be used, how it would be constructed, and the company's policies and procedures. These were: pressure treated pine for the posts and rails, western red cedar for the pickets, galvanized ring shank nails (they look like a phillips head screw to me), galvanized brackets to attach the rails to the posts, posts would be set in quick drying concrete, they did 3 rails not 2, and they would build the gate on site. They required a 50% down payment to get on the schedule. Once that was received they would put me on the schedule and the balance would be due the day the project was completed. He further explained that due to the weather he and all fencing companies had been experiencing multiple delays. Consequently, he could not be sure exactly when the work could be done. He also explained my project was a small job so it would be scheduled with another small job and price per linear foot would be higher than a larger project. Which I had already expected. Tony is straight forward and very clear about what he is offering. I asked if he would be willing to give me a quote for the entire fence so I could evaluate if that was a better way to go. He not only did that but evaluated the condition of the fenced and determined that some posts, a few rails and all of the pickets needed replacement. He then took the time to write up formal quotes. He even broke out the quote for the entire fence into parts based on our bordering neighbors so I had exact amounts to share with them. After receiving other qoutes and talking to my nneighbors, I choose to haveTony do the small fence project. I mailed him the check for 50% of the project. He called the day he received it and scheduled the project. He called the day before the scheduled appointment and informed me there had been further weather delays and rescheduled. He informed me which team would be doing the work and my project would be the second project for their day. At this time I asked if a rot board could be added to the project even though the olffence didn't have one. He agreed with no further costs. He asked me to put the balance due in a seled envelope and give it to the team leader and requested that I I give a review on Angie's List. The 2 person team arrived on the scheduled day just after 12 noon. They removed the old fence which included the concrete the posts were in. They built the fence as Tony had explained. They took just over 2 hours. They smoothed and leveled the soil, picked up all debris and asked me to look the fence over and showed me how the latch worked. They did not provide me with an invoice so I asked if I would be getting one. They were't sure but felt I would get one in the mail or by email. As of the time I haven't gotten an invoice nor have I called to get one. The only concern I have is the latch. It will take a learning curve to learn how to easily open it. It takes 2 hands to do it. I'd prefer one hand needed. But it does have a very cool way of locking and it is very easy to use. The next time I do a fence I would want to see the latch, hinges and handles. It would be nice to have choices in this. I would use Selph Made Fences again. I got a well made and strong fence.

Found Selph Made Fences on Angie's list in October. I wanted a cedar fence this time and decided to get the better-quality Western Red Cedar with a 6 inch rot board. Al came out for an estimate and I signed up. Had 3 delays because of needed HOA approval and rain. Did not have a rot board on the old pine fence. Installation was finally scheduled for Tuesday, December 8th. Jose and his helper were on time and finished the job in about 4 hours. They were very professional in their work. The old fence was torn down and hauled away. Would refer this company to others.

Went Great! A little rain delay but did in two days as promised. As I have dogs I was pleased to learn what they took down was rebuilt before they left. Gates work great and they showed me how to open and close. They were very professional and the fence is straight and tall. I would use them again without hesitation. Thanks Jose and crew!

Great company, great communication, on time and job done right. Hard working crew. I have seen the rest but these guys are the best.

Tony is excellent . His crew was timely and efficient. For the quality of workmanship and materials I will go back to this company when the rest of my fence needs a replacement. The quote was precise, the timing was estimated but do to all the rain recently in Houston that is extremely understandable. The process was easy, 811 came out and marked the utilities, the materials were delivered in advance. I would highly recommend.

Everything went great! Jose came yesterday and installed our beautiful new fence. He did a wonderful and professional job and even stayed until after it was dark (6pm this day) to make sure the job was finished and finished correctly. He was great about addressing any concerns/question I or my neighbor had throughout the day and even addressed an issue with a sprinkler pipe being in the way. We will definitely recommend Selph Made Fences and Jose in the future and use them again when the time comes!
