Rick was great to work with. He was able to give me a rough estimate over the phone and worked me into his schedule. He showed up on time and worked quickly to finish the job. We were pleased with the results.

Rick did a great job and was wonderful to work with. He arrived promptly and completed all work efficiently over a 3-day period. The result was excellent and looks fantastic. We provided the wallpaper and paint and he provided all other materials and tools. He went above and beyond by removing the existing wallpaper in the guest bath despite the original plan to paper over it. This made for an even better result!

I had called and left a message with several potential contractors earlier in the week. Realizing that this is a very busy time I was not hopeful that any of them would be able to help me out. Richard returned my call and said he had just finished a job and had time to come by this afternoon if that was convenient for me. I described the project to him, two and one half widths of wallpaper from ceiling to wainscoting in existing entryway using very old paper that was left over from the original job done perhaps 20 years ago. I further told him that the prep work had been done and the wall was primed. Without seeing the job and based only on my description he gave me an estimate of the price and I agreed to have him do the work the same day. He arrived as agreed, looked at the wall and the paper and went straight to work. Since there was only a small amount of paper to paste he decided to set up his pasting station on the front porch to keep any potential mess out of the house. Richard did an excellent job working with very old and potentially brittle paper, while the color is not exactly the same as the paper that is already on the wall, not his fault obviously, the installation was done in a very neat, professional and workman like manner. While he was at my home I asked him to look at a few spots in a guest bathroom where the seams were coming up and some corners were not glued properly. He repaired those and did not change the price for the call. It is obvious that Richard takes pride in his work and is very experienced at what he does. I will be having him back to do some additional work for me in the future.

He was responsive from phone to email! Very helpful in letting me know how much material to get and also if I had any issues while he was putting up wallpaper he would address them and fix it. It took him 3 days (not full 8 hours) in total. He cleaned up very nicely after himself and took a small lunch break. Very friendly! Would use him again!

I initially contacted Richard when I made the decision to replace the paper in our master bath remodel rather than paint the walls. He came out within two days, took a look, gave me an estimate and told me how much paper I would need. When my contractor finished work in the bath and I was ready, I contacted Richard to schedule installation. He is a busy man and I had to wait a couple of weeks for him to get to me but he is worth worth the wait. He arrived on time on the appointed day, spent most of the day removing the existing paper and prepping the walls. He returned early the following morning and was through by early afternoon. We are very pleased with the results and highly recommend him.

Even though his specialties so far as I can tell are high end wall paper hanging and painting work he was nice enough to take on my wall paper removal from h*** work. I did appreciate this as anyone that has done wall paper removal can attest to it's no fun even when it goes well. This wallpaper removal job was done on a complete home interior renovation where several rooms had both vinyl and paper faced wall paper and in some areas it was glued on so heavily that had I done the wall paper removal myself I risked at best a ridiculous amount of tedious drywall skim coating and sanding and at worst destroying the drywall. Before calling and hiring him I did the removal of one large wall papered wall myself in the master bedroom and it was a nightmare and took me nearly two days including skim coating, sanding and finishing due to all the resultant drywall gouges and surface tears so after that room I knew I needed a pro to help. Overall he did a great job and also did it fast. I can vouch that he's a serious pro for removing large areas of old and tough to strip wall paper. Also in one bedroom that was particularity bad, he ended up having some significant drywall surface damage across two walls and offered to and then did for me skim coat them perfectly flat for only $20 additional over his quoted price. I appreciated this extra work for such a low cost - it saved me significant time. Around pricing he fixed price bid the job at $460 and I felt he by doing this was taking some risk as if the removal didn't go well he could of ended up losing money if it took too long. As it turned out he was able to do it far faster than I anticipated so he at least in my opinion made out well so good for him in this case. If I had any less than positive critique it would be minor. For example toward the end of the job I started to notice a lack of attention to detail. By this I mean that I felt the need to monitor him to make sure he followed through on the job - for example I had to closely look at the surface areas and ask him to catch things he overlooked including pieces of wall paper, corners, glue spots, etc. Also after he was gone I noticed a spot of significant damage on the kitchen Formica counter top under an area where he removed wall paper and I noticed him bracing his feet on the counter top. I'm sure he did the gouge as it was not there prior to his working in the area. I ended up replacing all the counter tops anyway. But had I not decided to replace all the counter tops with new ones, the old counter top at least on that side of the kitchen was ruined.

Richard was wonderful to work with. We had a small bit of damage to the wallpaper in one of our guest room bathrooms and he was able to come by, cut out that section, and patch it with some extra wallpaper we had left from our renovation. I can barely see the seam where he patched it and he lined up the pattern perfectly, it looks great. He was done in less than an hour and did an impeccable job of cleaning up after himself. We will definitely use him again in the future!

Rick could be a bit slow in responding, but other than that, everything was great. Rick came out and looked at the space, gave a quote, and looked at the materials we wanted to use. He had some hesitations about the velvet we wanted to use as a wall covering, so we ordered a yard or two and Rick came and did a "mockup" with the "test" yardage. It worked great! Everything looks wonderful, we are very pleased with the results.

I would definitely recommend Richard to my friends and family. I'd also use him again for wallpapering or paint jobs that I have in the future.
Description of Work: Richard wallpapered 2 accent walls in my home. I contacted him via Angie's message and he responded promptly. We had a phone conversation to discuss the job. I measured the walls and he was able to give me an estimate over the phone. We agreed on the price and set a date and time. This was my first time getting wallpaper and Richard was patient and explained the process. I also wasn't sure whether or not I wanted him to skim the walls. He arrived on time and was very professional. I showed him the walls and the paper. We discussed whether or not skim was needed and he made great recommendations. I ended up skimming 1 wall. He used protective covering on his work areas and cleaned up after himself. He said that it would be a 1 day job and it was.

Fantastic. He helped me decide how many rolls I needed to order for the space. He was on time, quick, clean, quiet and polite while he worked. One day he prepped the walls, since they had a medium texture on them, and then let that dry. The next day he hung the paper. The paper looks beautiful. It's amazing how well the print on the seams match up. My dad is a builder and specifically commented on how well he did with that. Just a very professional guy who cuts to the chase and didn't waste any of my time!

Rick showed up on time and worked well the first day. However, he became ill and I told him to go home and take care of himself. He did not show up the following day (Wednesday). Apparently he had texted me the night before and that morning telling me he had strep and would not be here. I finally saw the text around 3 pm Wednesday afternoon. He came back Friday and worked, but obviously still did not feel well. On Monday morning I nicely asked him to fix some areas I thought were poorly done the previous two days. He did comply. On Tuesday he and his sister did a nice job on our cabinets. I asked him to hang some corner beads back up and fix a couple of areas the painter had splattered paint on. One of the areas was not fixed properly. Late that afternoon I paid him. After he had left I called and asked him to call back. I wanted to talk to him about one area he had repaired. He has yet to call back. However, he cashed our check within 30 minutes of me writing it. Compared to the original two ladies who wallpapered this house I rate his work as average. The fact he never returned either my phone call or email I find to be poor customer service. I would not use him again because of it.

Response from Paper Tiger Painting And Wallpapering
[member name removed] correctly states in her review that I was ill and took time off to recuperate. In fact, she insisted that I do so. I went to the emergency room and was treated for strep. In the third line of her review she acknowledges that "Apparently he had texted me the night before and that morning telling me he had strep and would not be here." and that "I finally saw the text around 3 pm Wednesday afternoon". That would make me texting her on a Tuesday evening. According to my smart phone I texted her at 8:06 p.m. on Wednesday 'evening' to tell her that the doctor advised me to stay in bed and away from other people for at least 24 hours. The last text message between [member name removed] and myself concerning this matter was sent to her the next day (Thursday) at 1:12 p.m. suggesting that she and her husband might want see their doctor because I was most contagious when I first started their job. She is mistaken on the timeframe. As far as fixing "...some areas I thought were poorly done..." There were 3 such "perceived" areas; two were exposed edges over the windows that needed to be trimmed, and the other was an outside corner which needed the same. It is better to allow exposed corners to dry as fully as possible in order to trim them more precise. Any paperhanger will tell you so. I did so the next day and even [member name removed] admits that I corrected the perceived error. She acknowledges that I did "...a nice job..." on her cabinets. As far as repairing "a couple of areas the painter had splattered paint on..."; she states that "...One of the areas was not fixed properly..." I only repaired one area that the painter ruined. It was where the header wall over the doorway met the adjoining wall. I must have missed the other area but she was not charged for it. I would like to stress that this complaint is not based on something I did incorrectly- it is based on not correcting another worker's mistake. [member name removed] states that "Late that afternoon I paid him. After he had left I called and asked him to call back. I wanted to talk to him about one area he had repaired. He has yet to call back." Again, according to my smart phone, the last phone conversation between us was on Friday April 4 at 7:33 a.m. in the morning- not the late afternoon. There was no phone message left saying as such. I would be happy to send you a copy of my phone records to verify this. Again, it was not a complaint about something I did wrong or poorly, it was a complaint that I had missed something. There is a difference. She adds that "he cashed our check within 30 minutes of me writing it..." Yes I did. I had to cash the check sometime and since her bank was on my way home and I didn't realize there were any time restraints or other restrictions on cashing it, I saw no sinister motive for doing it then. The inference is that I was in a hurry to get my money in an attempt to avoid coming back and righting some wrong. I resent the accusation. My record on Angie's List does not support such an accusation. Again, there was no wrong to right. In an attempt to bolster her case [member name removed] states that "Compared to the original two ladies who wallpapered this house I rate his work as average." And yet, she paid me- in full. I examined the previous work and, if she considers it to be superior to mine then either her standards have changed or she is simply being vindictive. I suspect the latter. She states that "The fact he never returned either my phone call or email I find to be poor customer service. I would not use him again because of it." I do not return phone calls I do not receive. I do not answer text messages I do not receive. I do not answer emails I do not get. My phone records will verify this. However, as far as email goes, it is not as reliable as a phone call or a text message in that emails can be sent to spam folders or deleted accidently. Regardless, I can assure you that -at best- only a weak effort was made by [member name removed] to contact me and that I would have gladly responded to her in a prompt manner to fix the painter's mistake. And speaking of painting, My contract included doing some painting in [member name removed] home but she gave the work away to the painter that messed up her wallpaper. But did I complain about that? No. Also, I had to adjust my schedule to accommodate the texture man. I did not charge extra or complain about it. I wonder if the painter was admonished for ruining her wallpaper. On grading my work [member name removed] gave me A's in Responsiveness and Punctuality, and a B in Professionalism yet her sole reason for not wanting to hire me again- or referring me to her friends- Is her complaint that I never responded to her request to fix the painter's mistake. Her own grades do not correspond with her main complaint. For Price she gave me a C. This is where I think she is being vindictive. I submitted my price and she accepted and paid the full amount when I finished and never once indicated that she thought the price was unfair . Had she thought the price was too high then she could have found someone for less. That grade should be an A. For Quality she gave me a C. I would think that [member name removed], as a retired teacher, can appreciate math. She gave me an overall rating of C yet if you average the scores the result should be a B. This may sound like nitpicking but her main reason for giving me such grades is that I did not respond to her -limited at best- effort to get me to come back and fix her painter's mistake. Also, she lists the completion day as April 1. Is this an April Fools day prank? How can I complete a job before I start it? Is this a simple error on [member name removed] part? Or, is it an indicator that she does not take this matter as serious as I do or perhaps she is slamming me because she thinks I slammed her? I did not ignore or avoid [member name removed]. I have no reason to do so. It would be unprofessional and everyone knows the power the customer has in this situation. I could understand her view if she could show that she directly communicated her concern to me and I purposely ignored it. The record does not show that. My record stands for itself. I do not deserve these grades.

This is the second time that I have used Rick for a service in our home and we will be calling him again! Called Rick to come wallpaper our two bathrooms. He completed the first full bath in just a few hours, even though it was a difficult full match pattern, and was ready to start on the next room. I added work to the original job by asking him to paint the cabinets, trim, and two of the doors in that bathroom as well but did not have the paint at the time. He was not able to start on the "toilet room" in the master bath due to the other contractors who were working at the same time installing the tile floors. Rick did not complain and happily worked around their schedule and came back instead on Friday (he did the first work on Monday) so that he could complete the rest of the job. We were so surprised when we went upstairs to check out the finished work in the full bath because not only had he done a wonderful job on the wallpaper and paint, he had also hung back up the existing hand towel holder but ALSO the big towel rod that had fallen off several years ago and I couldn't get it to stay on the wall and was just shoved in the bathroom closet! Talk about an unexpected "happy"! The "toilet room" was amazing too. The large match was perfect - even around and behind the toilet which is so difficult to do. He always kept the work area clean and was friendly to my dogs - including the big ones that liked to get more personal and friendly than most would prefer and the little "rat dog" that wanted to bark at his ankles too :-)
