In the beginning things were great, Cameron (owner of Grandeur Homes) was very attentive, offered suggestions, good job site supervision, overall a wonderful working relationship. As time passed, and Cameron became busier with other jobs, there was a noticeable change in construction progress, supervision and attitude. Construction began October 2010, with a planned completion in approximately 7 months. After about 5-6 months, construction slowed to a crawl, there were many days with no crews and no work was being done what's so ever. I would have to say on average, there were only 2 workers on the site each day, for the last 6 months of construction and this was a 5000+ sq. ft. home. We were hoping to be in the new home before the new school year started in August of 2011 (which would have been 10 months of construction). Unfortunately, that didn't happen, then we were promised to be in by the Holidays, which we took to be Thanksgiving, but after that day came and went, we thought (hoped) Christmas. We ended up moving in, in February of 2012, unfortunately the house wasn't quite finished. Trim work, stain, paint, misc. other items, final cleaning and walk through remained to be completed. Moved in because our previous home had been sold and construction loan (18 month) was due. After moving in it was next to impossible to get Cameron to do anything. He would not take my phone calls and only selectively respond to my emails or text. Most of the unfinished items I had to complete myself and we never had any final walk-through or closure for that matter. Attitude, when complications arose, as they will, we went from working together to a progression of increased blame and anger (aggression) toward me and my wife. There was one day when Cameron and my wife got into a screaming match, at the lack of progress and unfulfilled promises, which ended in Cameron retreating to his vehicle and driving off. Yes, we were particular, as we were spending a large amount on money and had designed the house ourselves, so we knew what we wanted and weren't willing to stand for sub par workmanship, this was after all a custom home. Money, at one point, Cameron submitted a draw request, but having just recently paid one, we couldn't see the need for one so soon, especially without much work being completed. When we pressed Cameron for a meeting to go over the budget, he miraculously found he actually didn't need any more funds after all. Overall the project ended up well over budget. In the end, it turns out we had over paid Cameron, and by his own admission, he owes us between $5000. and $2000. he has repeatedly promised to pay us the excess funds and yet fails to do so. We have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and if that fails will deal with Cameron in a court of law. During the construction process we received a letter from one of his material suppliers, threatening to put a lien against our home, due to the failure of Cameron Anderson (Grandeur Homes) to pay. Final thoughts, after learning more of Cameron's background in construction and his fondness/specialty in buying unfinished or distressed properties. It became apparent to me that he is more suited to this, whereby he doesn't have to deal with any one's vision and money but his own. If completing your project on time, within budget with a courteous, honest contractor is important to you, then I would suggest you look somewhere else.
Description of Work: We hired Grandeur Homes, in August of 2010, to build a 5000+ sq. ft. custom home on our lot.
