Backyard's Plus Lawn Care & Landscaping

The lack of communication is a clear indicator of things to potentially go wrong. If the company cannot answer a simple emailed question about what we should expect for our weekly full service fees. Initially, we contacted the company in May 2014 only to be called well over a week later. Then we selected another provider which was not all that great, and circled back around to see if they could service us. Well, it looked like we were on the schedule, but my questions were not being addressed along with the service fee amount, which was what did he weekly amount include? The last email was sent on 7/20 receiving no response. Then I called on the scheduled day of service which was 7/23, and left messages and even text messages to find out first again what should we expect, and also were they still coming??? No answer, no reply, nothing. So I do not recommend this company to anyone, lack of communication and common courtesy. We have since located a much better provider, paying 50.00 per week, and they are excellent.

The initial installation went well. It didn't take very long and they explained everything to us on the operation of the system. Later, we realized that the whole garden wasn't being covered with water, so we asked them to come back out and fix it. It took a long time to get that scheduled, but eventually they were able to come out and fix the system so it was exactly what we were looking for.

Backyard Plus has been my landscaper for about 10 months as they preformed some beautification work on my front and back lawns. I was quite pleased with the work done and hired them for weekly service of my front and back lawns. Since that time they have not been quite the landscaper I expected. Yes the weekly service of my lawn and yard grass is just fine, but when there were problems with an existing sprinkler system it took them over 6 months to actually preform a simple fix.

Continue to use on a weekly basis. Dependable and friendly. Overall good job.Even worked on July 4th. My neighbor also uses them.

We are super satisfied with the work! It was done exactly as agreed, and the work was professional and top quality. We will definitely use Backyards Plus again.

The owner came and looked at the property, talked about my expectations and returned with detailed computer 3D images of his design idea. He completed work in short time as well as multiple extras I wanted along the way and upgrades to sprinkler systems. I could not be more pleased with Joe and the team at Backyard's Plus. They continue to maintain my beds today and I will never use anyone else. There are lots of yahoos out there who claim to be professional landscapers, but Joe is the real deal. I am so glad I found a great company in BYP!

Company Owner, Joe, is extremely communicative and responsive. What we liked in our interraction was the straightforward quotation process, and the providers flexibility when it came to adjusting and scaling aspects of the project to meet our needs and stay within budget. It was a painless process.

They were higher than the company that we chose. We've gone through ideas and they didn't check back with us, they didn't follow up. Their interest maybe in doing the project wasn't there either. They didn't do anything terrible, it's just that it wasn't as good as the other one. My husband had to follow up with them, even to get the quote, he had to follow up with them. I would probably not use them again.

Showed up on time for meeting. Did all the design work and submitted a bid.. That morning. Very professional I. Every way..

Very well done. Professional group and performed the work well. They hauled off all of the old fencing, and installed a new fence that we are very pleased with.

Never responded to my request for information. Never used them, but now never will. Unprofessional.

We are very pleased. Joe made two trips to our home to provide recommendations and proposals (we modified our wish list after getting his advice during first visit). Once we agreed on the work he did the work within 3 days and everything was done quickly and correctly. Backyard looks great and the grass has held up well and new tree is thriving.

Initially, service was acceptable, the workers friendly and approachable. The big problem we have had is with the owner, Joey Rodriguez. The quality of the work of this firm has progressively deteriorated. When my daughter, at my request, called Joey to report some glaring deficiencies and overcharges, Joey, on several occasions, has become hostile and defensive. He is simply unable to respond to a gentle request to address an obvious problem with his services, e.g., bushes not being trimmed, backyard grass not being mowed, charged for services not performed. He complains in a hostile manner about even being contacted, tells us, "I never get calls like this; I can't believe the guys didn't use a blower, they like to use a blower (they didn' use a blower)...I did a great job for you guys and you never gave me a good review on Angie's List...are you going to hold that hammer over my head (referring to Angie's list when all my daughter said was 'we found you on Angie's list'." ) When my daughter called Joey on 3-31-14 to inquire about a problem with billing and with the problems with the quality of the service, he said he'd speak to his workers, and asked that my daughter follow up with him. When she called him today (4-2-14) to update him on issues addressed by his people during today's service (front yard bushes finally trimmed), she also mentioned outstanding problems, e.g., still no blower used in backyard, backyard lawn not mowed, he was not merely defensive and angry, he was rude and unprofessional, minimizing the problems we have been having. He demanded, "what do you want me to do?" My daughter replied that she would just like to have the problems remedied. Joey's response to this request was that he was not making us happy and we should "part ways." He then told my daughter he was terminating our service.

I stated how it went in the above note. Again I was pleased at first but later disappointed with the grass that died. I would recommend that anyone using them wait a few weeks before writing a review.

We did not go with him because his price was three times more expensive than other Angie's list providers.

I got estimates from 3 different folks. They came out and they were great. They gave me an estimate and they didn't take a long time to do it. I was satisfied with that part of it. They responded right away. It was very good.

They did a great job. They were very responsive to feedback and answer any questions we may have. They chose plants that worked well for our climate, so that we have color year round. Anytime we need anything, they are very responsive and available. Joe, the owner, shows up to oversee the projects.

Have not yet tackled this task, so I can't attest to quality of work performed BUT they were very courteous, punctual, and the quote was right about where it should have been. Even a bit lower than others I got.

Good work, timely, courteous workers

Pushed back the start date due to weather concerns. It was a good call on his part. Otherwise, started and ended on time. Was reasonable about replanting some areas I did not like. Went the extra step to accommodate my schedule and provide more than I was expecting.

Good job cleaning up landscaping and weekly yard service

I could not get Joe to return my calls, left a few voice mails....

Doug came out and gave me suggestions for plants and where to place them. Joe sent me an estimate. I fist had them do and estimate for front and back yard. It was reasonable but I decided my budget would not take care of both. Joe sent a new estimate for the backyard and it too was reasonable. The work started at mid day the first day and was finished on the second day. All the workers were very polite and would change the placement of any plants I suggested. Both Doug and Joe stopped by several times to see how things were going and if I was being satisfied. Both are very attentive and good listeners. If you want good quality landscaping by people who care about your needs this is the company to choose.

I called them during the week before, they returned my call on Monday and came over that day. The work was done on Thursday. The work went smoothly and was done in half a day. It would have taken me a week or more to get the work done. The garden hasn't looked this good in years.

The entire project was from my own design. I got estimates from three providers from Angie's List. Joey's quote was in the middle but in line with the others. I had such a hard time deciding because it seemed as though I would get a quality job no matter who I chose. I went with Joey because I believed he understood exactly what I wanted. I was right.. He showed up on time for the first visit and waited patiently for two months as I decided which bid to accept. When the job began, his entire crew showed up on time. They worked different areas of the project in tandem. I never saw a single member of his crew NOT doing something. They never stopped moving. They were always courteous and polite. They answered all my questions and were patient as I made changes during the process. They never gave me the impression that my changes were inconvenient. They cheerfully made the changes. I had the impression that their only job was to make sure I was smiling when they were finished. They finished the entire job in less time than expected in spite of a couple of days of rain. The completed job was exactly as I envisioned it. Joey expected that I would have to tweak the sprinkler system a bit to get it exactly as it should be. He was right. I had them come back two or three times until things were running as promised. Each time Joey responded promptly without complaint and got things going right. It has been 2 1/2 months since the job was done. I live on a corner and to this day, if I am in the yard, complete strangers driving by will stop and compliment the yard. I am only to happy to refer them to Joey. My next project is replacing my fence. Joey has already given me his estimate knowing that it may be a project for the next year. He will be at the top of my list for sure!
