I called them at approximately 3:00 PM on a Friday so I felt fortunate that they could come to my home by 5:00 PM. At the time my wife was not home and I had asked the dispatcher to please call to confirm when they will be at my home. The appointment was for 5:00 and I told my wife to be there at 5:00, the technician showed up at 4:30 and they never called my wife. Luckily, she came home a bit early and met the technician right before he left, which was at 4:45 PM. He then came in and did a fine job troubleshooting the system. He repaired it by simply turning the burner switch back on in the attic which I accidentally/stupidly turned off. The technician nicely pointed out that this was the source of the problem and did take the time to write in permanent marker on the switch, DO NOT TURN OFF. He was at the house for about 15 minutes and for this we were charged $109. I know they needed to charge me something, but this seemed a bit exorbitant.
Description of Work: Our A/C system apparently had stopped working and they came to my home to troubleshoot and repair.

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR SOMETHING, ONE, THAT TAKES ONLY A MOMENT TO FIX, AND TWO, THE CUSTOMER SELF INFLICTED. THIS IS THE HARDEST ITEM TO PRICE. THE TECHNICIAN STILL HAS TO BE PAID FOR THE TIME IT TOOK HIM TO GET THERE AND THE TIME TO DO THE REPAIR, THE FUEL COMPANY STILL NEEDS TO BE PAID FOR THE FUEL USED TO GET THERE, THE INSURANCE FOR THE TRUCK AND THE TECHNICIAN STILL HAS TO BE PAID, AND THE PEOPLE ANSWERING THE PHONE STILL NEED THERE CHECKS TOO! SO 109 TO FLIP ON A SWITCH AND WRITE YOU A REMINDER SEEMS LIKE ALOT OF MONEY BUT EVERYONE STILL HAS TO BE PAID FOR THE WORK IT TOOK TO GET THEM THERE. The technician spent 10 minutes doing the job. The service call was $45 and the 5 minute job was $109. I disputed the charge at the time and asked to speak with the manager. The technician left and said the office would call me. I assumed that since I had been a customer for years that Autumn Air management would at least discuss this with me. No one ever called so I called and was told that the office manager would phone me back. Never got a call but did get a statement indicating that I had refused to pay and the payment was past due. I sent a check and will never use them again.
Description of Work: Poured Clorox in A/c drain pipe and blew out drain pipe.

I had a freon leak that no one had been able to pinpoint. I called on a Monday morning at about 8:00 AM and the service person arrived at 10:00 AM that day. He used a process of elimination to arrive at my condenser as the source of the leak. He filled the freon up and told me that the cost of the freon would be applied against the replacement of the unit (if I chose to do that). The unit was very old and I knew it probably had to go. I called the next day and took advantage of the financing option through banking/credit card company. By Thursday morning I had a crane (the unit is on the 2nd story of my townhome) at my house to haul away the old unit and lift the new one. The technician handled everything else on his own. He was kind and professional and courteous. I was very pleased and I haven't had any problem since!
Description of Work: Detection of freon leak, freon refill and condenser replacement.

They seemed to be a little eager to sell a large system and an expensive repair. The air conditioner that they put in, works a lot better for. I wasn't very impressed though.

I first used Autumn Air several years ago (I found them an Angie's List) and was very impressed with their service. When I had problems with my A/C I had forgotten the name but it was in my history on Angie's List. I am very grateful for that. Once again, they did a fantastic job! They were able to quickly schedule an appointment, the technician came out on time and was very polite and analyzed the problem and gave me a quote. I agreed and he went to get the parts necessary. He came back and started to replace the motor. Once he had the unit apart he tested it and found that a transformer had blown (due to lightening) but not the whole motor and offered to fix the old one and save me $250.00. After he finished, he gave me my Angie's discount and also told me where on their company website I could download a coupon that would save me an additional $25.00. In the end, the unit was repaired and is working great and it cost me less than half of what I was expecting to pay.

They did not stand by there warranty when the thing they serviced broke. They are very rude, the owner of the company has hung up on me on the phone. They over charged me for the services.

I DID NOT HAVE THE PLEASURE NOR OPPORTUNITY OF SPEAKING WITH THE MEMBER, BUT WORKED WITH HER BOYFRIEND. HE WANTED ME TO REPLACE A COIL THAT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 2 YEARS. I WAS ATTEMPTING TO ASSIST HIM BY GIVING HIM THE PHONE NUMBER OF THE EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURER, SO HE COULD CONTACT THEM, AS THERE WAS NOTHING MORE I COULD DO TO HELP. UNFORTUNATELY, HE WAS NOT WILLING TO LISTEN AND BECAME VERY ANGRY AND THREATENING. AUTUMN AIR HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS OVER 20 YEARS, AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ABLE TO WORK OUT ANY PROBLEMS OR CONCERNS OF MY CUSTOMERS IN A PROFESSIONAL MANNER. WITH THIS GENTLEMAN’S EXTREME REACTION TO THE SITUATION, I FELT THAT IS WOULD BE BEST FOR ALL PARTIES INVOLVED TO REFUND THE MEMBER’S MAINTENANCE AGREEMENT AND SEVERED THE RELATIONSHIP. They replaced the wrong AC part, but I think it was because they sent so many people out to look at the AC. When I called them, they were very upset and came right out to correct their mistake and didn't charge me any extra money.

The guy came out and gave us a spiel and tried to sell us on having both air conditioned unit completely overhauled. Also he tried telling us we had a leak in the attic. He kept changing his story. It didn't sound right so we decided to get a second opinion. So when we got a second opinion we found out all we needed was freon and then our units worked fine. We had a bad experience and we would never use them again.

YOU ARE ALSO CONTAMINATING THE ENVIRONMENT BY NOT REPAIRING THE SYSTEM AND ALLOWING REFRIGERANT TO LEAK FROM YOUR HOME AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. I AM SORRY YOU FEEL THE WAY YOU DO BUT WE FEEL THAT ADDING REFRIGERANT TO A SYSTEM WITHOUT MAKING REPAIRS OR AT LEAST LETTING YOU KNOW ABOUT THE LEAKY SYSTEM IS UNETHICAL. WE ARE HERE TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEMS WITH THE SYSTEM SO YOU WILL HAVE A HEALTHIER CLIMATE, LOW UTILITY BILLS AND A CLEAN ENVIRONMENT. Autumn air made their initial visit on 5/27/08 and diagnosed our AC problem as a leaking coil. The estimate for replacing the coil was $1925 to do the work on Tues 6/3 or $2392 to do the work on 5/31. We chose to save money and scheduled the work for 5/31 between 3 and 6. The workers finally showed around 6:15 without calling to inform us they were going to be late. After installing the coil the AC seemed to work for about 1 day. Autumn Air came back on 6/9 and indicated that they misdiagnosed the problem and that it was a blower motor that was over amping and replaced the motor. After installing the motor the AC worked for 1 day and stopped working again. On 6/16 Autumn Air came back and indicated that there was a restriction in the coil and tried to blow it out. After limited success blowing the coil out it was determined that the new coil was faulty and restricted and they would get back to me after speaking to the manufacturer. After several calls to Autumn Air they scheduled to come take one last look before replacing the coil. They scheduled to come on 6/23, but then called back on 6/23 and rescheduled to 6/24. On 6/24 it was determined that the coil was not restricted, but simply had not been properly charged. The coil was recharged and the AC now seems to be working fine. It took nearly a month to get the problem resolved.

I was originally quoted $2,200 to replace coil on 4-ton unit. It seemed a bit high to me, so I started making calls to friends until I could find people who had experienced same problem. They agreed that it was too much. I told Gabby on Sunday evening that the quote he had given me seemed too high and that I was having 2 other companies come out the next morning to give me estimates. He said that he had made a mistake on my original pricing as he was quoting me the overtime cost for the job as he wasn't going to be able to do the repair until after 5pm on Monday. Huh? His second quote, minus his overtime rate, was $1,595. I chose to go with another company that quoted me a lower number to do that repair, plus more preventative work, pan replacement, drain-pipe replacement, trap repair. I did not use the Autumn Air quote to get a better price. If you choose to use Autumn Air, I would definitely suggest having other estimates done. I learned my lesson.
Description of Work: Contacted Autumn Air after reading reviews on Angie's List. Saturday evening, Gabby came out to diagnose reason why my a/c was not cooling. Upon entering the attic, he said unit had frozen up and that I would need a new coil. He said he would come by tomorrow and fill up my refrigerant to get me through until the following week, once he had the necessary parts. He came back Sunday evening as he said he would, which was nice as it was over 100 deg in my home.

HOWEVER IF WE WERE GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THEM CALL YOU AND REQUOTE THE COIL. THE REASON FOR THE DIFFERENCE ON PRICE IS WE HAVE A RATE FOR DOING REPLACEMENTS DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS AND WE HAVE RATES FOR OVERTIME. THE QUOTE WAS GIVEN ON THE WEEKEND AND IF YOU WOULD HAVE SAID DO IT NOW WE WOULD HAVE CHARGED THE HIGHER PRICE. AS ANYONE WOULD EXPECT THERE ARE EXTRA EXPENSES TO DOING THINGS ON THE WEEKENDS. THE SUPPLIERS ARE NOT OPEN AND THEY CHARGE US TO OPEN THEM UP. THE EMPLOYEES ARE ON OVERTIME PAY AND THAT ADDS UP TOO! THE ONE ITEM THAT GABBY DID NOT DO WAS TO TELL YOU IF WE DID THIS DURING THE WEEK THE PRICE WOULD BE LESS, HOWEVER MONDAY WHEN I WAS OVERLOOKING ALL THE WORK ORDERS I SAW THAT AND YOU WERE CALLED WITH THE LOWER PRICE. AS FAR AS THE MORE PREVENTATIVE WORK YOU LISTED THAT IS PART OF OUR NORMAL EVERYDAY PRICE AND THOSE ITEMS YOU LISTED SHOULD ALWAYS BE CHANGED WHEN REPLACING A COIL, WE JUST DON'T USE THAT TO MAKE US LOOK LIKE WE ARE DOING MORE THAN WHAT WE SHOULD AND WE DO NOT CHARGE ADDITIONAL TO DO THEM. We lost our air on Memorial Day weekend, with an 86 year old elder in the house. I called my home warranty company and couldn't get anyone. So I looked in Angie's List and called Autumn Air. They responded immediately and sent Paul out, who was a sweetheart. His attitude was great considering it was a holiday and he took the time to make sure we were fixed up. There were no major issues, but I had to pay extra for an emergency call.
Description of Work: Checked and reset breaker box. Checked amps on motor and compressor.

We've had Autumn Air out 3 times now and are very pleased for the following reasons: I've requested the same service man (Gaby) each time and Autumn Air complies. It makes a big difference for us to have the same professional visit each time. Their staff is professional and follow up quickly. Gaby wears booties and cleans up after his work is complete. Gaby explains the options and gives us ideas outside of just the "replace everything" option, as we are trying to get the most out of our two 19 year old air conditioning units. While they did not charge for the last visit, which was today, for the services they have performed their price has been very reasonable, and was the same as what was quoted.

The workmen were very thorough, prompt, and courteous. The work was completed in one day, and they stayed until 10:00 p.m. to finish. We had a faulty outside fuse box which they repaired.

I was very happy with the service. After checking both units operational efficiency, he then checked for leaks and serviced the units for summer. One of my units is on it's last leg, and he showed me the amp usage along with the equation to determine how much electricity it was sucking down. He stressed that the unit is still working fine, but if my power bills are high, that is the culprit. I went ahead and signed up for the yearly service which covers a visit in the fall for the furnaces and spring for AC units. When you sign up, you also get 15% of any work and have priority when you have an emergency call.
Description of Work: I had my two A/C units serviced in preparation for summer.

Fantastic! Salesman was professional and quick to respond. Very knowledgeable. We got quotes from highly rated HVAC contractors listed on Angie's List and it was difficult to choose. All were great. The work was completed in two days with minimal disruption to our home. I would highly recommend this company to anyone.

The tech said it would be about $2,000 to repair. When I said I would be getting another estimate he got a weird look on his face and said, "Oh, I just remembered something that might fix it; I'll put it back together." He had me sign a receipt and pay $60 then he left. Later, AC still didn't work. Called another company and it was fixed for $65 and it's worked fine ever since.
Description of Work: Central AC was blowing but not cooling. He said he changed a part.

I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS NEGATIVE REPORT AND WOULD LIKE TO ADD OUR VERSION OF THIS STORY. THE MEMBER FAILED TO MENTION THAT SHE HAS A HOME WARRANTY ON HER SYSTEM AND SHOULD HAVE CALLED THEM INSTEAD OF AUTUMN AIR AND LATER REALIZED SHE HAD IT. THE CHARGES WE APPLIED TO HER WERE THE TRIP CHARGE AND DIAGNOSTIC FEE'S, $52.95. WE DID NOT TELL HER THE UNIT WAS DEAD BUT MERELY THAT IT IS A 1982 MODEL UNIT AND SHE SHOULD THINK ABOUT UPGRADING TO A NEW MORE EFFICIENT UNITS WE WOULD TELL ANYONE THAT HAD A UNIT OF THIS AGE. THIS IS A SUGGESTION NOT A REQUIREMENT! THE UNIT WAS NEVER REPAIRED BY US DUE TO THE FACT THAT SHE DID NOT HAVE PROPER POWER TO THE UNIT. THEREFORE THERE IS NO WAY WE COULD HAVE FIXED IT! SO UNFORTUNATELY THE SYSTEM WAS LEFT UN-REPAIRED BY AUTUMN AIR STAFF. AS FAR AS GETTING THE UNIT FIXED FOR $65.00 THIS IS ABOUT WHAT THE DEDUCTIBLE IS FOR A HOME WARRANTY. THE MORAL OF THIS STORY IS IF YOU HAVE A HOME WARRANTY YOU REALLY NEED TO CALL THEM, ONCE YOU HAVE A CONTRACTOR RATHER A/C, PLUMBING, OR ELECTRICAL TO YOUR RESIDENCE THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DROP THEIR CHARGES BECAUSE YOU REALIZE THAT YOU HAVE A WARRANTY!! I contacted Autumn Air on a Friday morning to check my AC. They were able to send a tech out that day. The window of the appointment was between 3-5. The tech arrive at exactly 3:00. They quickly diagnosed the problem and were able to do the work the same day.
