.The first time they came out, they had a 9-11 am window. They called at 9 to say they were on their way and would be there in half an hour. Around 10:15 I called them to find out they were stuck in traffic (OK, not their fault). When they did arrive they started working right away on the hydrostatic test and did determine there was a leak. However, during this initial test they ran a camera down my drain lines through the kitchen cleanout and couldn't find a sewer cleanout point so they said we would have to have one installed to do the isolation test. They didn't charge me for the isolation test because they installed the sewer cleanout. They were supposed to come back the following Friday afternoon for the isolation test. At 430, I get a call from their office saying "has so and so called you to say he won't make it yet?" Which was the first I was hearing they were not coming that day. This was upsetting because I was supposed to go out of town that evening. A few minutes later they called back to confirm they were not going to make it that night and I would get the 2nd time slot the next day. The next day they weren't even there at the beginning of their timeslot! Why do I not get the first time slot when bumped? I don't know, but I do know I didn't see my mother who has cancer on Mother's day because of this company's lack of timeliness. The results of the isolation test were sufficient for me to have other companies bid on the repair work. American's price was almost 80% higher than several of the bids from reputable companies (including the one I picked). Oh, and to top it off, I later found out when getting the drain lines replaced there was a sewer cleanout ALREADY about 2 feet away from where they installed the new one. I would not recommend this company.
Description of Work: First time came out to do a hydrostatic leak detection. Had to come out a second time to do the isolation test.

Called today and scheduled a time for Friday morning. They then called back and sent somebody out today. They were very professional and on time. Tested all the skimmer and inlet lines along with return lines to the pool found one leak that I didnt know about and confirmed another I did know about. Explained cost for repairing the leak.

The service call was promptly scheduled. I called on a Friday and the technician was there on Saturday. He did arrive 30 minutes after the agreed-upon time. He was courteous and knowledgeable, and gave me good advice about the next steps I should take to resolve the soggy patches in my yard since they were not due to a leak in the main water line.
Description of Work: Tested the main line for leaks but didn't find any (the leaks were related to the irrigation system and pool pumps).

ALD came out to determine where our pool was leaking water. They initially thought the leak was under the flagstone, but the tech wanted to get a second opinion. They came back on a second visit and determined the leak was on the opposite side of the pool under the concrete / rainbow decking. They quoted us to repair the leak which we accepted. As it turns out, the leak was actually about 15 feet away. They made three small holes in the rainbow decking and resolved the leak. I was impressed with the small size holes they were able to excavate to repair the leak.

Kept noticing water low in pool but thought it was just heat and normal loss. Eventually seeing water in yard and realized had leak somewhere. At first, thought it was sprinkler system but after checking the system, nothing found. A friend recommended American Leak Detection. (My pool service company was even telling me some loss was normal) American Leak Detection was very friendly, answering my call (message I left over weekend) promptly and the people were very nice over phone. Just as scheduled, time and day, the folks showed up on time and really were interested in finding and resolving my problem. "Joe" conducted a thorough check of my pool system and determined it was not a leak in the structure of the pool or plumbing (Thank goodness!) But instead, it was just some loss of grout at one end of the pool that had come off and was deterioratin/crumbling over time and was losing water behind the pool wall. This was good news!!! Joe fixed it on the spot and left....GREAT SERVICE!! Would definitely recommend them to anyone... Very Honest and Professional.....

It went very well. Drew a map of the house and marked the piping . So if a problem happens, they know where to fix it. The technician explained everything to me, which was very helpful to me.
Description of Work: They arrived on time. Checked for leaks, but found no leaks. But found what they called " a pipe belly". The manager send me an e-mail with the estimated cost for repair. Talking to him I told him that I didn't have any problems with drainage or anything else. He agreed with me to just leave it alone. I do appreciate his honesty and will defiantly use them again.

The person who came out to find the leak was very courteous and professional. He found the leak, and helped adjust the pumps to minimize the water loss until they could get back to fix the leak. The people who cam a week later to fix the leak were also professional and courtesy. They fixed the leak, and explained to me why the leak had occurred and what they had done to prevent it from reoccurring. They told me that the leak detection had a 30-day warrantee, so if I saw additional water loss beyond evaporation in the next month to call them back. The repair itself has a five-year guarantee.
Description of Work: On the first visit they did a full leak detection of our pool, and found the leak in the weeping wall. On the second trip they fixed the leak.

They repaired one leak and then they found another and another. That is what happens when the main line is next to a growing tree. The price was pretty high.
Description of Work: We used American Leak Detection - Houston. There was a leak in the main line of the pool system, and we couldn't use the regular pool company, and so we used them. They found 5 leaks, and they were here the whole day.

Although I think they are a bit expensive, in my case they did a great job. The repair was made under a flag stone patio around the pool area. You can barely even tell there was any stone removed to make the needed repair; that is because the gentleman who did the repair did a fantastic job.

Great! David did my plumbing inspection before we bought the home. Once we closed on the house, ALD came back to do all of the repairs. They scheduled each repair throughout the day in the order they needed to occur and made sure it was all done in one day. David went above and beyond and put silicone to patch a tile for me. Later that night, I saw dark spots on the hardwood floor and was very worried we had a plumbing leak somewhere. The next morning, they reworked their schedule to come and help me. David spent quite a bit of time to make sure the plumbing in the entire house was working properly with no leaks. This is was extra work on his part and helped me have peace of mind that the floor spots were not from a new problem. Very helpful, professional, knowledgable, and generous!!

The gentleman who showed up (a little late) was very nice and used an infrared type device to try to detect water behind the walls in order to see where the leak was taking place. In neither case were the results definitive, but he tried to give his best guess based on what the device was showing and his experience. He later said that it would be better to have the service done immediately after a leak event - in our case immediately after a rain. Would have been nice for them to have told us that when we called so that we did not schedule an appointment for a time when there had been no rain for a week - a waste of money and time to do this so long after the fact. In the first window, where he thought the leak was happening corresponded exactly with where I thought the leak was happening even before he showed up, so a confirmation of sorts. In the second window, his estimation of the source of the leak was way different from mine. All this and quot;best guessingand quot; cost us $250 - I suppose that is a mild discount after seeing the instances of a $275 charge in more recent reviews, but still it is way too much to pay for something as inexact and non-definitive as is this service. I do not recommend the service - not because of the people or the way they treated us, but just because what you get is not worth the money you pay. To conclude, I will say that we later had the leak at the first window repaired by a contractor at the spot we both suspected, and we have not had any recurrence of that leak. For the second window, I repaired the leak myself based on my estimation (not theirs) and again we have not had any recurrence of that leak either. So in essence we wasted $250 for a service that did not add anything definite to our knowledge and in one case was completely off-base. Finally, if you have or can acquire such a water-detecting infrared device, then you can do this yourself - there was nothing special or sophisticated about what they did other than having the device, in my opinion.

The guy asked me where the drain plug was while we were standing in the back yard outside our master bathroom. I told him it was somewhere close to where I was standing, but there we leaves in the yard and I couldn't find it. He told me not to worry...he would find it. I went inside and checked on them from time to time. Next thing I knew, they were up on the roof above the master bathroom. Turns out he couldn't find the drain plug and without it couldn't run his camera up the drain pipes. I found it in about fifteen seconds by swiping a few leaves away with my foot. It was about 18and quot; away from where we were standing originally!! He said he needed to remove one of the commodes. He did so, but then announced the flange was in such bad shape he couldn't put the commode back in place. It cost me more to have the commode reseated than it cost me to get his half baked leak detection test. He said he saw water standing in the pipe that ran under the master bathroom but couldn't get his camera in there. He said he wasn't able to get the camera into the plumbing on the other side of the house because there was too much corrosion in the grease trap. It took him exactly an hour to mess around and do nothing except conclude we needed to replace our under slab plumbing. Amazingly, it only took him about fifteen minutes to work up a quote for almost $21,000!! We have since gotten a leak detection test by another company. They sent out three plumbers who removed all three commodes, put them back in perfectly good order, AND (most importantly) were able to get there camera into every drain line in the house. They pinpointed seven leaks and gave us a written report on their findings. I would not recommend American Leak Detection to anyone needing an under slab plumbing leak test.
Description of Work: An engineer we contacted about a new foundation issue recommended using American Leak Detection to determine if we had under slab plumbing leaks. They explained their fee, their service, and set an appointment. They sent a young man and his assistant out to do the inspection. They arrived on time but that's all that went right that day.

They were punctual, friendly and efficient. My swimming pool was tested and there were two leaks. The cost for the testing was $275. Another appoint was made for the repair and that time they were even early. The repairman was extremely careful with how he broke into the decking around my pool, so that it could be easily put together again. He fixed both leaks and I no longer need to continuously refill my pool!

The folks at American Leak Detection came out three times. While I liked the technician, after the third time I lost all confidence that they could do the job correctly. The first time two people showed up to test the pool for $275. They informed me that the lines had no leaks. They then suggested testing the spa for an additional fee of $75. I agreed but they did not have the correct tools to complete the job. They agreed to return a second time.On the second visit, one technician showed up. He retested the pool but again did not have the correct tools to test the spa. In addition, he asked questions about the pool system that made me doubt he was completely knowledgeable about the process. On the third visit, the same technician showed up, this time with the correct tools to check the spa lines. He asked me how to drain the spa (which I would have expected him to know do on his own, but no matter) and told me that he could not find a leak. He mentioned that maybe there was some test they could do to the waterfall lines. I did not even ask how much that would cost because by now I doubted they would be able to find any problem.Mind you that the technician was extremely nice. At this point, I have lost confidence that even if they could fix a leak even if they found it. I will start the process over with another company and hope I can find someone who can spend the whole day and pin point the issue. We are loosing 2-4 inches of water in winter while we run the equipment only 2 hours a day. There were some minor miscommunication problems with a person I spoke with on the phone. On the second visit I was asked to pay $275 again even though nobody had mentioned this the first time they left or on the phone when they reconfirmed the appointment. They had mentioned the $75 fee, to which I had no objections. I am trained as a lawyer and have good attention to details--and I did not feel confident that the company was communicating correctly with me as customer and even with their employees. I found out the person who came the first day with the technician was just hired as a helper for the day--finding leaks in pools is very specialized work. Still, since the regular technician re-inspected the pool, I find that the company handled the issue properly.Overall, I spent three afternoons and $350 dealing with a problem that found no resolution. On two occasions they were late, but the technician was courteous and let me know. Still, I will not be calling them again. The pool maintenance company will also not be recommending them again.

Response from AMERICAN LEAK DETECTION - HOUSTON
On or about March 3-5 the member called to schedule a leak detection of her swimming pool and was quoted $275. On March 7 our technician arrived and found there was both a pool and spa at this location, so the member was requoted $350 to test both. At that time, the member declined testing of the spa and stated she did not want to spend the extra $75 since the pool was the only problem. Approximately seven days later the member contacted our office saying she still had a problem. We informed her there would be a charge of $275 to return and test the spa. The member disagreed on the cost and insisted on only paying $75 since this would have been the charge had she agreed to test the spa during the first trip. In an attempt to satisfy the member, a charge of $75 was agreed upon. After arriving the second time it was found we did not have enough waterway jet plugs. It was necessary to reschedule for another date in order to return with enough plugs to properly test the spa. A return trip was made and the spa was tested finding no leaks. An evaporation test was then set up and it was requested she contact our office if the pool/spa was indeed losing water. The member never contacted our office. The member also stated the person at her house with our field technician was hired as a helper for the day. American Leak Detection does not employee any day laborers. Our charge to test a typical residential pool/spa combination is $350. If it is requested only the pool or spa be tested the charge is $275. If it is requested the pool and spa be tested on separate visits the charge is $275 per visit. American Leak Detection is willing to resolve this matter by sending our field supervisor to the member’s house to retest both the pool and spa at no additional charge. Messages have been left for her but no response has been received. Sincerely, Rick Winters Office manager

The service technician asked about the symptoms of the possible leak. After the discussion he offered to plug the sewer drain line and fill with water behind the plug to see if any obviously leaked out, which I had him do. That went very well. I was somewhat disappointed he could not go several feet down downstream of the cleanout connection with a balloon to test that far. That seems a relatively straightforward test similar to what we do in other situations. Instead he said we would have to dig up the line around the back yard - a bit extreme. He volunteered to check some other possibilities, which he did. That was a nice touch. Costs and timing were explained in advance and that all was to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Did hydrostatic test of drain lines under the home slab upstream of a clean-out connection on the sewer line in the back yard. Also, checked for water loss from back yard pool out through pool light fixtures into the surrounding ground.

We used American Leak Detection to perform a hydrostatic test on a home we were looking to purchase. The test cost $250 for 2 hours of time. I was concerned about the cost because typically I like paying a flat fee per service, instead of an hourly rate. They assured me the test would be completed within the 2 hours and they kept their word. They called the day before to confirm the appointment and then called again to confirm what specific time they would be out since they gave us a 4 hour window. Angel performed the test and he was very professional. He found the leak in the foundation under the laundry room and told us he would give us an estimate on how much it would cost to fix once he got back to the office to draw up a quote. He gave us a quote the next day and it was very reasonable. $2500 to repair all of the plumbing issues in the foundation. We didn't end up purchasing the home because the seller wouldn't go down in price. My husband and I have found another home and had our offer inspected and have called American Leak Detection to perform a test on this home as well. We trust their work.

Overall, not satisfied. Here's the story again: The pool had a leak - it would lose 2 inches overnight with the pump off. A guy came out and did their leak survey with all their equipment for $350. He said that both skimmer throats were leaking, that the plaster at two of the return wall fittings had tiny holes, and that the common return line to the spa had a leak below ground level. I questioned that these things would be responsible for so much water loss, but he said he couldn't find any other leaks, and that I would be surprised at how much water could leak through small openings like those. They came back out to repair the skimmer throats and wall fittings, and the when they retested the spa return line, they did not detect a leak after all. That day's work cost $560. Well, the pool still lost the exact same amount of water as it did before those repairs. A guy came back out and retested for leaks at no additional charge. He said that the hydrostatic valve in the pool main drain sump had a leak. A technician came back out and replaced the valve for $150. They did not replace it with a hydrostatic valve but with just a plug. Well, the pool still lost the exact same amount of water as it did before. Another guy came back out and retested for leaks again at no additional charge. This time, he said the pool main drain line was leaking but that he could not pinpoint the leak. He said the repair would require digging at the edge of the pool to about eight feet below the surface and possibly another eight lateral feet to the main drain itself to locate and repair the leak. He installed a plug which closed off the line so that the pool wouldn't lose any more water, which was great, but it also meant that the pool couldn't be emptied below the skimmer line. Later on the phone, someone gave me an estimate of $1200 to repair the main drain leak. I mentioned all the ineffective repairs they had done to date ($710 plus the $350 detection fee), and he said he would knock off $100, but that there was so much labor-intensive digging involved that he wouldn't go any lower than that. Because I had spent so much money by that time with absolutely no improvement, I did not have that last repair done. First, they should have found the main drain leak the very first time they came out. Second, the skimmer flaps never did fit properly again after they re-grouted, so that now all the skimmer debris escapes and litters the pool again when the pump is off. The trouble is that leak detection services are few and far between in this area, and they know it.

The trouble is that leak detection services are few and far between in this area, and they know it.

The second time they came back the plumber was not pleased with the patch job on the last repair, he did it again at no charge. I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: This is the second time we have used this service. Each time they have detected and repaired a leak in a below ground pipe.

I found them on Angie's List in the little magazine and it was Easter weekend. I called and there was no answer on the first try. I desperately called a second time and the guy in the office sent someone out that same day. He was very professional and kind. I showed him where it was and he said that he would be able to detect where it was coming from. He found it and got my permission to cut a piece of flooring out to fix the leak. He found the leak right away and explained to me why it occured. He fixed it right up! I was very pleased with his work and the price! He also gave me a bid to install some higher quality piping if I was interested in upgrading them in the future and for installing a new tankless water heater. He came back another time to explain to my husband about the upgrading to our pipes and my husband and I are going to be using him in the future for that work. Angel Rooyo is the man who came out and he is just wonderful!
Description of Work: He identified and repaired a pin-hole leak in a pipe in our wall.

We spent $400 on that service. He came out and actually put on a diving suit because it was very cold. He went down and discovered the leak to be in the main drain, so he fixed it and we were very happy. He came out when he said he would, detected the leak, and fixed it. The technician that came out was very personable, very polite and solved the problem. There is nothing that we could say that was bad about him. In fact it turned out to be a lot less than what we thought it would be.
Description of Work: We used American Leak Detection in February because we had a leak in our swimming pool and it was losing a lot of water.

It is all fixed now. The young man was very professional. He did his job and was so neat. He put a drop cloth down when he was digging in my flower bed. He saved my plants and re-planted them. I couldnt' tell he had been digging a hole in the mud. He did such a good job of doing the work and cleaning up after himself. I couldnt' even tell he had been in my backyard.
Description of Work: I hired American Leak Detection to find and fix a leak. We then found another leak and they came again.

They quickly discovered the pipes were fine, so they decided to dye test the skimmer. They did not charge extra for this test. Once they found the leak, the explained how we could also find it ourselves in the future, and told us how to repair it. They offered to do it for $150 with a 1 year warranty on the labor, but we decided to do the patch ourselves. They were polite, professional, and fast. The only problem was that the person originally scheduled to come out had a last minute emergency, so instead of coming between 1 and 3pm, they didn't arrive until 4:30pm.
Description of Work: We had a pool leak and they performed a one way pressure test on the pipes and dye test on the skimmer.
