Description of Work: The contractor talked a very good game, especially his degree from KSU in Concrete Engineering, the quality of his work, attention to detail, etc. All talk. The finish on the new patios does not match the existing pool deck. A majority of the concrete is smooth, without any broom finish, making it slick, especially when wet. I have had several conversations with the contractor and he has offered to have "coolcrete" installed on the new patios. He has missed the point completely, " I told the contractor and he agreed, before any work was done, "The concrete finish on the new patios - must match the existing pool deck and the steps into the kitchen should be two steps." The results, The broom finish on the new concrete patios is all but non existent and that which does have a finish is crooked and rough. His foreman sprayed some sealer on all the job within 48 hours of the pour and 1/3 of the concrete finish has spidered. He talked me into one step into the kitchen and now the step is too tall to meet inspection.

Response from EMJ Outdoor LLC
Every attempt has been made to contact this customer to address any issues. If this customer would please call or email me back I would be happy to take care of any of your concerns. The Cure & Seal was put down as soon as the brooming was complete as directed by the manufacturer. The "spidering" your are seeing is in the sealer membrane not the concrete which is normal. I do feel like the one step vs. two is a better option but [Member Name Removed] replace it with 2 steps if you are not happy with it. I was not aware of these concerns until seeing this so please contact me so we can address them. Thank you, Eric Johnson

We were trying to rush to get our driveway replaced before the winter. We noticed that our neighbor had theirs replaced, and it was one of the best looking driveways that I had seen in awhile. My wife stopped by and got the name and she called Eric to schedule a time. Eric said that he was booked, but would try to fit us in. He had an opening, and couldn't get a hold of us so he actually drove to our house to find us to see if the next day would work. Needless to say, the driveway looks phenomenal. They got started at 8AM on the dot, and had the old driveway and steps tore out before I left for work. Eric had a setback because the sub contractor who delivered the concrete was late, but they stayed until the job was finished at 8PM. The driveway looks great, as does my neighbors. I would highly recommend Eric to anybody who wants a high quality driveway and doesn't want the pain of waiting for days for it get finished.

I called him because I thought he might be able to do some grading and resloping around the house. I left a message and he called back to let me know he didn't do much with grading, mainly concrete work but he did give me a referral to someone he thought could do the work. I was impressed that he took his time to call back and try to help me out.

Eric Johnson and his crew did a wonderful job! The quality of their work is excellent at a fair price. Their quote was not the highest or the lowest. It was obvious that these craftsmen know their business, and they paid attention to the smallest of details. I have already recommended them to two other potential customers.

Initial visit and quote was by company owner, Eric Johnson. Quote was straightforward and about $1400.00 less than a quote from another highly rated Angies List contractor. Eric immediately gained credibility by suggesting that mudjacking (not among his service offerings) might be an imperfect but acceptable alternative at much lower cost. Tear-out and replacement work was scheduled with only about a week lead time. On the appointed day the work was completed and site cleaned up in the course of an 8 hour work day. Crew went to extra effort to rebuild some tedious brick garden edging that had to be disturbed in the course of the driveway work. Some small imperfections appeared after a day of curing but Eric Johnson responded personally within minutes of being called and made necessary touch-ups.

We were in a rush because the forecast for April 1st was 90 degrees and we were expecting 50 people for a brunch party. The owner, Eric Johnson, was nearby at a work site at Corporate Woods when I called for the last minute job. He came right over to evaluate it and arranged for the work that weekend. A hard-working employee, Manuel, used a wheelbarrow to bring down several yards of the clay/dirt mix. He pounded rebar into the soil around the unit, as a hedge against erosion or subsidence (strategically positioning them). Then Manuel carefully packed the clay/dirt into a pyramid of support on our steep slope. When I asked Manuel about leaving a somewhat level area for replanting a clump of pampas grass, he replanted it. When I told Manuel I was going to rim the base of the clay pyramid with the rock I had nearby to reduce erosion, Manuel said he would do it, and he did. Manuel was pleasant and hardworking. Even though I added a tip to the protein bar and water I'd given him, I wish I had made it larger.
Description of Work: We used our Angie's Big Deal coupon value of $300 (paid $149), plus $85 for delivery and installation of a mix of clay and soil to stabilize our AC unit on a steep slope. After our foundation had been dug out for steel piers, our AC was put back in place, but needed what turned out to be several yards of a clay/dirt mix packed around the base.

The top soil was not the best he did a decent job, but it was not fantastic. We thought that we were going to be getting really good top soil but there were wood chips in it. They did a really good job packing down the yard. They work they did was good, and we were happy with his grading.

Member, Thank you for the feedback! The reason we did not bring you topsoil is the fact that topsoil settles so much. I did not want the hole that you were filling in to settle over time so I brought you a compactable clay type fill dirt. I hope this clarifies everything. Thanks again for your business!! - Eric Johnson

The crew showed up as scheduled to remove our very old driveway. They worked quickly and as neatly as possible when taking out a driveway and sidewalk being careful not to damage my plants near the drive, as requested. They worked with the city for the permit to change our curb to a smooth approach, which is wonderful! The drive was formed and poured quickly and the sidewalk was put back in brick. They then graded the disturbed yard so it was ready for seed. The whole project was done professionally and quicker than I thought it would be. We got everything we contracted for, the price was fair, everyone on the crew was very friendly, the brick walk looks great, and we couldn't be happier!

This company responded quickly to our call, gave the best estimate, and showed up promptly when they were scheduled. The entire crew were pleasant and professional and cleaned up after themselves when they were done. Most importantly, they did excellent work - we couldn't be more pleased with the results.

I would highly recommend E Johnson Construction to anyone seeking his services. Every time I called or texted him, he either answered the phone directly or texted me back immediately. When he was bidding the job, and when he and his crew were on the job, they were totally focused on doing the job requested of them - as well as offering suggestions on how we could best accomplish our overall plan. Eric and crew were very respecful of our property and made sure any extra debris was picked up or hauled away. They did an incredible job and far exceeded our expectations - the neighbors have all commented on what a great job he did and how he took our "overgrown jungle" and turned it into a beautiful area. I will definitely call him again for any of the services he provides.
Description of Work: E Johnson Construction is definitely a 5-star company in every way! We have a creek running through our back yard that was very overgrown, with poor drainage from the yard that created a swamp on each side of the creek. Eric and his crew did a fabulous job of clearing and hauling the existing growth, retrenching the creek, bringing in rip-rap to line the creek, regrading the yard and hauling several loads of dirt for backfill to ensure the yard was draining properly into the creek. We now have a yard that drains properly so we'll be able to grow grass or landscape up to the creek, with a beautiful rock-lined creek that flows correctly downstream.
Impressive work. We were provided a clearly documented proposal and we discussed several design options. The work was scheduled promptly with the intention to complete in a week. Upon notification of utility companies that no underground utility lines conflicted with the proposed work, excavation began. The daytime temperatures exceeded 100 degrees all week. The work commenced at 9am Monday morning and was completed at 4:30pm Friday afternoon. We were kept informed of the progress all week. We heard no complaints from anyone, including the neighbors, for whom access through the adjacent alley was occasionally blocked by necessity of the work.
Description of Work: Excavated and removed part of a stone retaining wall and yard. Demolished and removed existing concrete driveway. Removed tree, dug up and preserved several bushes for replanting. Provided new widened concrete driveway, new decorative block retaining walls (which they tied into existing walls) and new earthen ramp from driveway to yard between new retaining walls.

Eric and Scott Johnson were great to work with and very professional. They did everything we asked them to do and were very responsive. They were also able to help us on very short notice, when we were in a bind. They also demonstrated that it was important to them for us to be completely satisfied. We would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
