My home insurance company was about to send a photographer out to take pictures of my home. I already knew that the roof would be a center of attention having dealt with home insurance companies before. I noticed a couple of spots that didn't look quite right and there was a corner of the roof where shingles were missing and dislodged. I had some extra shingles from a bundle when the roof was replaced about five plus years prior, so I checked Angie's and started making calls. Mr. Bud J. Shiver from Turtle Creek Renovations was the first and only person to return my call. He inquired what the problem was, I explained and he stated that although he was quite busy, he understood my problem and would try to make it on that very Saturday (I believe) as soon as he could. Bud arrived not all that long afterward which surprized me and I showed him the problems and the bundle of shingles and he went right to work. I never asked him for an estimate because I was in dire need of this service and I figured it might be between $100 and $200. I don't think it took him over an hour and he was knocking on my kitchen door. He took me around to the area where he repaired the damage and said he did a complete inspection of the roof, gave me some pointers and tips about trees, etc. He gave me his card and explained that he normally did not do roof repair and that actually he was primarily a contractor for renovations. I apologized and said I just looked uner "roofs" in Angie's and he smiled, gave me his card and shook my hand. I then asked what damages were (cost) and he said, "Nothing". I stood there like I hadn't heard right because I could not believe my ears and said, "Excuse me, say that again, please" and he said, "Nothing" and added, "Merry Christmas!" I couldn't thank him enough as he kept smiling and walked to his truck. I was dumbfounded and overwhelmed.as he drove away. I llooked at his card and it said, "Old World Craftmanship Exceptional Attention to Detail" and then understood that here was a man who owned a business that did something for someone of the nature I had not experienced for over 45 years. Needless to say, I've kept that card, and will need renovation done very soon for some major work and I don't think I will even ask for an estimate from him. Why would I do such a thing? For the same reason he did what he did. I realized who he was as a person and what he was as a craftsman. As we say around here, "'Nuff said".
