When David gave us the estimated cost for construction, installation, and painting of the beautiful cabinets, we were surprised. Unfortunately, the price was out of our range. We were very naive, and had no clue how much good cabinets would cost. If we planned to stay at this home for a long time, we probably would have considered the investment, but we felt we could not recoup the cost over the short term. David is a true artisan, capable of building beautiful cabinets that should last a lifetime. However, we were just disappointed that they were not in the price range that we had hoped for.

I had noticed in some other reports that responsiveness was a problem with this company but I decided to get them a chance based on the reports of quality. All I can say is I left two messages to discuss rebuilding a chair and I never received a call back. They may be the best at what they do in town but I will never know. If they will not return calls to get my business how likely is they will when they already have it. Going elsewhere...

David had multiple excuses on why he didn't get back to me to see the work firsthand. First reason was he was ill, second reason was some "great deals" on airfare. After he failed his third promise to get back to me I have since given up on this effort.

Took longer than expected, but the result was excellent and well worth the wait.

I can't express how much I appreciate how David keeps in touch via phone and e-mail to keep you updated on whatever he's working on. It's very refreshing. It's very much a family operation so it may take a bit more time to get your items finished than a production shop, but I like the personal attention to quality. He's very helpful in all phases of your project from first contact to delivery.

I liked David because other carpenters and cabinet makers wanted to tear out all the cabinets and start from scratch. I had just had new granite countertops installed and I didn't not want them to tear everything out. David was more than willing to work with me on this. The cabinets were old and the fittings on them are outdated. David was a master carpenter and he figured out how to work and adapt with what I had. I was very nervous after a horrible previous experience were I had been ripped off. He was completely honest and fair in all dealings with the job and me. I compared quotes and the price David gave me compared to other contractors was outstanding!

David came by, took a look at all the furniture, gave me an estimate, I gave him a deposit, and he loaded up everything and called me when my furniture was safe and sound at his shop. He stripped the furniture, repaired what needed fixing, and then refinished it beautifully. He kept the integrity of the pieces and the end product was fabulous, beyond my expectations. Everything was completed by the date promised and he found someone that could do the upholstery work (Ray) for the chairs and ottoman. David handled all of the upholstery arrangements (estimates, time line, etc.), and once finished, he transported the chairs and ottomans directly to Ray. Very smooth transition, David made the whole process easy, I never had to haul around any furniture or search for the perfect upholsterer. Many of these were really special pieces of furniture my husband grew up with at home, and he could not believe how incredible they looked afterward. We were really impressed.

He was very nice, and told me it might take awhile because he had to spend some time with some other projects. It's apparent he takes time and gives detail to his projects. He was prompt and there when he said he would be.

David came and looked at the furniture and was very knowledgeable about antique furniture in general and woodworking repair specifically. He gave me an estimate and because the piece of furniture was so unstable, he came to the house and made the repairs here. He did a great job and I would definitely use him again.

He was very professional and did a good job on repairing a chair that meant a lot to my wife. He did a beautiful job. I would recommend him to others.

David is old fashioned, a first rate craftsman in a box mart world. Now I know the difference between me refinishing something with a kit from a home improvement store and someone who really knows what they are doing. There really is no comparison. Added to his gifts at restoration, David really wants his customer to be happy and he doesn't feel that he's doing his job until they are. He's fun to talk with, knowledgeable and honest. I can't imagine using anyone else.

Our decision to contact David was based on earlier reviews on Angie's List. We delivered the original booths to his shop, where he evaluated them and provided an estimate. We were in a long line of projects that he already had going, so we knew that it might take a while for them to be finished. Even though he had them for several months, the end result was worth it. His attention to detail and knowledge of his materials gave us a family heirloom to use, enjoy and appreciate for many years to come.

David came out and sketched from my description the three units needed. He then gave me an estimate, along with a proposed timeline. He built the pieces in his shop over the course of several months then installed them here and finished trim work.

David Meier was very responsive right from the beginning. He was interested in the project whereas other contractors I contacted were not. He is, at heart, a cabinet maker. He came out to do the estimate, made all the necessary measurements the first time, asked the right questions, made several good suggestions, and described how the finished product would look. He kept in good contact with us and had the items finished and ready to install on time. He came to the house fully prepared to install everything and with the tools necessary to make the fine adjustments to the fit. The fit, actually, was remarkable since nothing in our house is square, but the pieces easily slipped in. He was careful with the new painting we were trying to protect and completed the installation in one trip. We actually needed some additional work, which required another trip. David is an excellent craftsman and a tireless worker. We were very satisfied with the results.

This guy is a great find. He is extremely knowledgeable. I feel as though I have had an education in woods, finishes, and the history of furniture! He does all kinds of seats: caning, weaving, rush, etc. He gave me the options for refinishing and re-doing the seat, and he explained their pros and cons. The chair is all re-glued, and he even made new wooden pegs to replace the worn ones. He also made two new side rails for the seat because they were cracked when he got down to them. The job is beautiful. I'm amazed that there still is somebody doing this kind of work any more and very happy he is. He finished the job earlier than he projected.

David Meier is a master craftsman with integrity - a joy to work with. He took our ideas, refined them with his experience and created cabinetry that maximizes the storage space in our family room and kitchen. David's workmanship is excellent. As a result, he is a busy man - but he is well worth the wait!

THE FURNITURE HAD SENTIMENTAL AS WELL AS PRACTICAL VALUE BUT WAS IN TERRIBLE CONDITION. REPLACEMENT COST WOULD HAVE BEEN DOUBLE WHAT IT COST TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND REFINISHED. PLUS IT IS NOW BEAUTIFULLY RESTORED.
