They did what they said they would do in a timely manner. When they missed painting a branch because they couldn't see it from the ground, I called them back. They responded politely and promptly, and did what was needed. I'd use them again!

Had purchased a 6 hours of Tree Trimming from Angie's list for Tree Guys of Texas to trim some shrubs around trees around perimeter of my home. What I found out that meant was 3 guys working for 2 hours. They showed up without proper trimming tools to trim shrubs, thus my shrubs were hacked up upon completion, nor did they use actual tree sealer on the oak trees that were trimmed, instead they used a flat paint. When asked about how the job was going, Mike seemed very defensive and took everything personally for pretty much anything I asked. He enjoys being an independent contractor and the ability to pick and choose his work, so if you want work from him, expect to be bullied into agreeing to do it his way, once he is on your property and has gotten approval to proceed. Thus, I suggest don't waste your time or money if you want quality service, and a responsive contractor. For the initial work, that was prepaid on Angie's list, I would give them a B. His guys worked very hard while they were here, but just aren't managed very well. What came next is surprising, Mike was hired to do a much larger job in a neighborhood greenbelt behind our home, he seemed optimistic that it could be done for $1800 as he reviewed it during the first job. Upon approval by the community to get the work done, Mike was re-engaged for the greenbelt job, and didn't recall the $1800 price, ultimately we settled on doing the job for $3600. Only twice the initial estimate after much of my personal time had been committed to the project's planning and approval by the neighborhood association. Ultimately, I made the mistake of trying to make it work with this contractor, when the signs were there. After being hired for the next job, there was a rain delay on the date the job was planned, 4.8" actually fell, no small amount in a natural wooded area, where the work was to take place. We did not want to incur ruts from the heavy equipment, and Mike seemed to blame me, the customer, for not letting him work in a natural wooded area while it was pouring down, and a flash flood warning had been issued. Instead of working the job at the next earliest dry date, Mike was hired for several other jobs elsewhere, and gave them priority over the initial job he was hired for weeks earlier. Ultimately there was another date scheduled and cancelled, due to the contractor's equipment breakdown. The contractor scheduled and attempted to come without the heavy equipment which was included in the $3600 revised proposal, the equipment was oddly not available for the scheduled date. Ultimately, Mike came back with another date, but everything that went wrong that was part of his job responsibility he tried to shift over as if it was the customer's fault. This was a $3600 job for a day and half of work, I was treated as a nuisance rather than a respected customer. Mike tried to shift every monkey on his back over to the customer. Do yourself a favor, find someone else if you don't want to waste your time. Below is a text of the response I received, when asked if he was near after waiting more than an hour when he said he was under way. +1 (210) 284-7672: 3:28 pm Loaded up and headed that way Customer: Okay call after you get in the gate and I'll direct you to where to go Customer: 4:39 pm Are you near? +1 (210) 284-7672: 4:49 pm You have an iPhone ? Open maps. Look at the traffic all over San Antonio. Yes I'm close. But let's get this clear. I don't do well with micromanagers. Especially after the last month I've had. I don't need reminders to bring sealant or my license. The beauty of being self employed is I can refuse service to any one I'm pulling in now
Description of Work: Trimmed trees around home and shrubs around house from an Angie's list $200 coupon in February 2014, plus another $200 in extra time and work. Was later rehired for a much larger job in a private residential greenbelt, but never completed.

Response from The Tree Guys of Texas
This is the side of Angie's list I hoped to never be on. Where I, the owner of the business, refused to work for a customer and then having to respond to a poor review. The above review is, for the most part true. There are some points I would like to make. If we did such a "hack" job, why did you call us back? Why approve an estimate when according to you it was double the original bid? Why wasn't using paint an issue then? Since the goal of spraying the wounds on a tree is only to camouflage the smell of sap to the beetle that spreads the oak wilt fungus, why should I pay $7.00 a can Instead of 99 cents? I will say this, I've never had to refuse service to any one. I wasn't happy about doing it this time. This is the first time I've ever walked away from a job. My only regret is not doing it sooner. I wouldn't have wasted so much of the customers time or mine. Mike, The Tree Guy 210-502-8733

Mike Oles and his team were excellent. I would highly recommend him and his company. They are professional, prompt, courteous, and skilled. They listened and understood what I was requesting. Mike offered suggestions and recommendations and I appreciated his expertise. We had utilized another tree service company in the past and I will only use The Tree Guys in the future. They are a highly respectful and customer-oriented company. The company provides quality services at an excellent price. Again, I would highly recommend this company.
Description of Work: The Tree Guys trimmed all our trees and removed one large tree. Mike Oles and his team provided excellent and professional services. They were all courteous, listened to our needs, and checked with me to determine my satisfaction.

Mike initially came out to give us a quote, and he was right on time. The quote he provided us was exactly what we paid, and the work was phenomenal. I no longer have to worry about a rotting ash tree in my back yard damaging the roof, fence or power lines. The work was done in one day, and the guys working were respectful of our property.

The estimate from the Tree Guys was the lowest of three estimates. Even after the lowest price for tree removal, they also included stump removal at no extra cost. Ahead of time, Mike did all the leg work to obtain the necessary permission from the Office of Historical Preservation. The crew arrived early Saturday morning as promised and got right to work. The trees were huge and this was an all day job for a crew of 5. The work was done professionally, and the crew was polite. They even volunteered to remove the remnants of an old "Box Wood" shrub and to raise a Chinaberry tree whose leaves were very close to the ground.
Description of Work: The “Tree Guys” removed two incredibly large Arizona Ash trees, a Hackberry tree and a Ligustrum. They also cleared the house roof line of a Magnolia tree and Mulberry tree, removed all stumps including prior stumps, and raised a Chinaberry tree, allowing enough clearance to walk under.

During the last several months we had six live oaks die from oak wilt. 5 were large and one was medium. Mike Oles' crew removed the dead trees. I only had them remove one tree to the ground, another left at 4' high, and the others between 6' and 8'. Reason being they will be used for yard art & furniture. The crew did an excellent job of removing everything, including a huge limb that fell off our neighbor's tree into our yard. There was a significant amount of sawdust everywhere and the crew did a great job of cleaning it up. They were fast and very professional. This is the second time I have used them and I will definitely use them again. Also, one other company I called for an estimate was almost 4 times more expensive than The Tree Guys.

Everything about this job was pleasant from start to finish. I was pleasantly surprised at the final cost as I had been quoted much more by other companies. I felt this pricing was fair. Mike the owner is very nice to deal with. When they came to do the job they were done much quicker than I thought they would be. In addition, when I wanted one tree cut back a bit more they came out the very next day after I spoke to Mike and took care of it. I've already made arrangements for them to come back out in March next year to take care of my out of control Hackberry in the backyard. Mike explained to me that cutting them now would likely kill them and I very much appreciated his expertise and knowledge about this. A-plus company. I highly recommend.

The appointment was set up the day I called. Mike and his crew arrived on time and he explained what needed to be done (I had no idea about the live oaks except that they did not look quite right). The crew was efficient, professional, and friendly. They were more than patient while I maneuvered my anxious and unwilling dogs from the back yard into the house. Mike provided me with information on stressed trees etc. When the crew left there was not a twig left behind, These "guys" are the best!

Tree guys cur down and removed a dead magnolia tree in our back yard. It had a trunk diameter of about 18" and was 50 feet tall. They had to navigate power lines and be careful not to hit the garage. Mike was very helpful and explained my city permitting and procedures (other bids did not). They removed the tree in a timely manner and ground the stump. He did not over commit due to a long wait time of jobs. They left a bit of a mess, but it was not a big deal. We are happy with the results and price.

Mike returned my call withing a few minutes and came out the next day (on a Saturday) to provide an estimate for a construction site preparation job. Very reasonable quote for sizable job. Showed up on time with crew ready to go. Crew was professional and hard working. When job was done, Mike walked the property himself to insure everything was done to our satisfaction. I will definitely use his services again!

Outstanding service. Mike, the owner, was present to supervise the work. The crew was quick, polite, professional & did a great job. I just bought this house. I am very pleased with the work Mike and his employees performed. Years of neglect had left large tree limbs on the roof of the house and an entire wall-line of Hackberry trees shading all light from the back yard. The Tree Guys trimmed every tree on the property, from shaping up smaller trees to major limb removal of mature oak and live oak trees, as well as removal of two trees crowding the house. - The owner and team were on time for estimate appointments and on the day of service - They worked non-stop all day - They cleaned up every twig and leaf from the yard afterward - The trees look natural and healthy, not butchered - The charge was very reasonable I highly recommend The Tree Guys.

Called to have someone come out to give an estimate to trim our 1 tree we have. Eric answered promptly, I didn't have to leave a message. (He Answered) He came out the next morning and gave a fair honest price. Unlike the other guy I had called who wanted twice as much. Even though he was real busy, he said he was finishing up a job in the area and came out the next day and did an excellent job. We will call The Tree Guys of Texas EVERY time we need anything done!! First of all, Mike Oles was very responsive when I called for a bid in June. Once the decision was made to hire him, the date was set and he and his crew were there to start between 8:00 and 8:30 that morning and at the same time the second day of work. It was a big job. On day 1, they removed two large hackberry trees, a 40ft row of pomegranate trees, and a few ligustrums. On day 2, they removed the third hackberry tree; trimmed three pecan trees and one oak tree; and grinded down stumps along the side and back fence lines. Wow! What a difference. The trees are happy and so are we! They cleaned up nicely with their wood chipper, blower, etc. Mike and team certainly know their business. They are very skilled, polite, and professional.
