From our initial showroom visit to the installation our experience was outstanding. The showroom rep did an outstanding job explaining the product to us and showing the different options we might consider. She was extremely knowledgeable, professional and excited about their product. The installer, Gary, showed up as scheduled, listened very carefully to our concerns, made suggestions and then installed the 2 lights. The installation was done in less than 3 hours and he cleaned up the area nicely. This is a great team and if we decide to install more lights we won't hesitate to call them.

We visited the showroom to look at the product. We were impressed with both the Solatube and the company rep who really knew and believed in the product. We called to schedule the installation later that day, which they set up on the date we requested. The installer showed up right on time, was very professional, completely covered the room to protect from dust, explained to me what he would be doing and kept me updated as the work progressed. It was a two hour job and you couldn't even tell he had been here...... other than the fantastic new look in our once dark bathroom! We couldn't be more pleased.

Thank you so much for this great review. We strive to do everything that you mentioned during all of our installation appointments. Giving expert advice in the showroom and at our customers' homes, being on time, and cleaning up after the install should be expectations from all businesses--and that is exactly what you can expect from Sola-Lite Inc. We appreciate that you took the time to write this review. We know it is easy to write a review when one is not happy with a service, but it is very special to write a review when the service is good. I will be sure to pass on this review to our office staff and your Certified Installation Consultant. Thank you again for the kind words!

The installation of 2 solar attic fans went very well. We're very pleased, they were right on time and were very professional. We know that a cooler attic here in Texas is a good thing and will help with the electricity used.
Description of Work: This company did outstanding work for us and answered my questions thoroughly before the work was done. Our house is well insulated and was also built with radiant barrier and ridge vents but the attic is very large. We had looked into various solar fans but none had impressed us like the product this company carries.

SOLA-LITE Looks great ! A man and his son came out, and really worked their tails off. They had to install them in my cathedral ceiling. They were fast. very professional, and very very conscious, about following all the rules, the company had laid down for them. In fact I am thinking about having them install a solar fan in my attic. They did a great job ! I think they are a good company ! They came in surveyed the work, and did the work. Very professionally !

Sola-Lite crew put in a large round sky light in our living room. I wanted it in the corner but because of the limitations of the slant of our roof it needed to be placed 2 feet away from the corner. Still it looks great. They did it quickly and cleaned up all of their very minimal mess afterward. It was more expensive because I asked for the dimmer switch. That's optional. It is nice because if you want to watch a movie in that room during the day, you can close off most of the light. That being said, next time I would not install that feature because I so rarely use it. Having that natural light in my living room means we don't have to t;urn on our lights during the day. It's also great if you want indoor plants in doors and don't want to put them near a window. Great company, great people!
Description of Work: Sola-Lite crew put in a large round skylight with a dimmer in our living room. They also put in a smaller one in our windowless bathroom. Turned it from dark cave to a cheery space. If I could afford it, I would have one or two in every room. Natural lite has a positive effect on my mood.

Technician was outstanding. Spent time reviewing home and offered best options. Installing the lights takes a dark, dreary room and makes it bright and chearful. Highly recommend installing the lights. Don't see much difference with the Fan installation. House isn't noticably any cooler than in previous years. Would like to recommend company consider offering a price reduction on the installation cost when all installation is being performed in one visit. One technician on site for 3 hours and another 1 for 1 hour. Total installation cost was $570.00 or approximately $150.00 per hour. This seems to be an excessive labor rate even taking into account a companies overhead, insurance, etc. Even with this aspect, do plan on having more lights installed.

The product is outstanding. Each solatube brings so much natural light into the room. Even when the sky is overcast, it brings in light. When the sun is shining, it looks like a bright light, but with no glare. It does not introduce any heat into the room, just light. Our bathrooms have never been so well illuminated. The company personnel are outstanding as well. The lady in the showroom did an excellent job of demonstrating the products. She explained the technology behind the product and how it is different from the type of product that can be purchased at a home center. She showed us the different sizes and different styles of difusers. She showed us how the optional light kit works. All these products are installed in the showroom, so she shows the actual product, not just a diagram. Then she gave us a preliminary price estimate. Then she scheduled a time for the installers to come to the house, determine the specifics of the installation and give an exact price. The installers arrived on time, and gave us very specific recommendations, as to which rooms would be best served by the 14 inch diffuser and which locations would be best for the 10 inch diffuser. They went on the roof, in the attic, and all over the front and back yard to determine the optimum location for maximum sunlight for each solatube, taking into account shadows from trees, chimney, ductwork in the attic, etc. They advised us that certain locations would be shaded for too much of the day and recommended other locations for maximum light. They gave us the exact price, and then started work immediately. They were very clean, very polite, and worked diligently, finishing the job by mid-afternoon. The workmanship was excellent - no leaks or looseness, even with the intense winds and rain we have experienced this winter. We love our solatubes! Every day we are excited about how much more light is in our house. We are saving money to have some more installed.
Description of Work: Six solatube "skylights" were installed. These are much different than traditional skylights; a clear plastic-type bubble shape is installed on the roof, which directs sunlight down a tube of highly polished silver metal and this light is directed through a circular glass difuser installed in the ceiling. Four of the solatubes were 10 inches in diameter and two of them were 14 inches in diameter. Three solatubes were installed with the optional light kits. One solatube was installed in the entryway; one in the bedroom hallway; one in the laundry room, one in the kitchen, and one in each of two bathrooms.

Company is super friendly, has fantastic customer support, shows up on time, keeps work area clean, cleans up after themselves and very knowledgeable workers. I've had them to my house twice to install Sola-tube lighting as I loved the way the house looked and felt after the first group of installations. No leaks, just beautiful natural light. Electrical bill went down over $40 a month since installation. I don't need to turn on lights anymore during the day, even on cloudy days! Referred them to a neighbor and a good friend who have both had Sola-tube lighting and fans installed. They are very pleased with their customer service, support and installation staff, as I am. Definate hire when I build my next house!

The installation went smoothly and the crew was good-- they knew what they were doing, were polite and cleaned up after themselves. All was well until the first heavy rain. One of the four tubes had a serious leak and the same crew came back on four different occasions over several months, basically each time it rained. The result is that it still leaks although not nearly as much. On the last repair, Mr. Ellison had an independent roofer come in purportedly to help fix the problem. Instead the roofer concluded that the roof wasn't installed properly and Mr. Ellison washed his hands of the matter choosing not to honor his five year guarantee. Here is my problem with his conclusion: his "experienced" installation team was here five times and never said a word about any problems with the roof. The house is 14 years old and the only leak we ever had was due to chimney flashing. In retrospect it is obvious the professional roofers he brought in came for the sole purpose of voiding my warranty. This is still a work in progress. I am suing Sola-Tube and Mr. Ellison.
Description of Work: We had four light tubes installed to brighten our dark interior. Being in south Texas, we have a metal roof which is common in this part of the country and my biggest concern was leakage from rain. Jeremy Ellison (the General Manager) assured me that they did metal roofs all the time and there would be no problem. None the less, I was skeptical and he agreed to sign a five-year warranty against leakage.

Before I begin, some of the last words I heard from this customer were, “Jeremy, this is obviously NOT your company’s fault, and I do NOT hold you or your company liable.” In addition, neither Solatube International, Sola-Lite Inc. nor Jeremy Ellison was ever sued by Member as was suggested in this review. Sola-Lite Inc. takes great pride in serving our customers, and we will never do anything underhanded. We take what few warranty calls we receive very seriously, and we will do everything in our power to respond same-day if a customer has an issue. As with all installations conducted by Sola-Lite Inc., the Solatube Daylighting Systems in this house were installed by a Solatube International Certified Installation Consultant. The units were also installed in accordance with Solatube International metal-roof installation standards. In an effort to show how important customer service is, Jeremy Ellison (General Manager of Sola-Lite Inc.) visited the house on multiple occasions. This included a trip to the house to offer free materials AFTER Member agreed that Sola-Lite Inc. was not to blame for his issues. After several visits from Mr. Ellison and from Certified Installation Consultants; no fault could be found with the Solatube installation, nor could we recreate the leak at the Solatube flashing. Sola-Lite Incorporated then coordinated to have an independent/third-party roofing company make two visits to the home in order to determine if the Solatube was the cause of the issues. The notion that we would contract a roofer to void a warranty as this customer states is ludicrous. We chose an accredited and well-known roofer from San Antonio. The first visit resulted in the roofer stating that he could not find fault with the Solatube installation, nor did he believe the Solatube flashing was the cause of the leak. The second visit, conducted by a metal roofing specialist on 8 June 2010 came to the same conclusion. Jeremy Ellison contacted Member and told him the findings. Jeremy then requested that Member have an independent roofer of his choosing come and look at the situation if he disputed these findings. This conversation took place in JUNE 2010. Member posted this Angie’s List review in AUGUST 2010; yet he did not contact a roofer until NOVEMBER 2010. In November he did finally enlist the services of a well-respected roofer. The roofer did a thorough water test, and he could not recreate the leak at the Solatube Daylighting System. Thinking outside the box, he then started running water over an existing passive vent, not installed by Sola-Lite Inc., located approx. 10 ft above and 6 ft to the left of the Solatube. Within 30 seconds, the leak reappeared. When he took the water hose off of the vent, the leak dissipated. The homeowner’s preferred roofer, sat down with both Member and Jeremy; and using the aid of digital photographs he said, “The Solatube is absolutely not the entry point for this water. In my professional opinion, the passive vent that is located a considerable distance from the Solatube is allowing water penetration. The water is somehow running laterally under the metal roofing material and exiting at the Solatube. This is extremely rare, and there is no way Sola-Lite could have known this.” Member then coordinated with the roofer to fix several panels of his roof that included the removal of the faulty passive vent. As stated above, the customer then told Jeremy that he agreed with the roofer that the reported issues were not Sola-Lite’s fault. Although Member and his roofer agreed that Sola-Lite Inc. was not to blame for the water intrusion, Jeremy still offered to pay for part of the upcoming roof repair costs, which Member honorably declined saying, “This is not your fault, and you don’t need to pay for the repairs.” Jeremy also offered a replacement flashing at no-charge, which Member accepted. In light of the unparalleled customer service provided, the willingness to assist the homeowner with roof repair costs unassociated with the Solatube Installation, and the customer’s own words stating that Sola-Lite Inc. was not at fault; Sola-Lite Inc. hopes that any false statements mentioned in, or misunderstandings caused by, this customer’s review have been cleared up.

I visited the store and looked at examples of the skylights. The salesman provided helpful advice about the appropriate size for our large room. I called later to schedule the installation, and the workman arrived at the agreed upon day and time. Our roof is very tall, and the skylights were installed in a room with a 25-ft high ceiling. Overall, the installation took about 4 hours. We've had the skylights in place for two years, and we really enjoy the daylight they bring into our den. It was well worth the cost. I was a bit concerned about possible roof leaks, but we've had no problems. We're thinking about installing more skylights in another room.

Very pleasant people. They were on time and their product was good. I was disappointed in the guidance I got in placement of the light and the light selection. I would not have made the same selection. It brings an amazing amount of light in, but it is too bright. I would have made different decisions if I would have been given more guidance. UPDATE: I just now found the company's response to my comments and reviewed my ratings. I did upgrade the ratings. I did have them back and they did soften the light. My main problem was the placement of the living room light. It was placed on a slanted ceiling at a spot where it did two things: (1) shines directly in a person's eyes when then enter the front door, and (2) is located directly over a recliner, so that when I recline it shines directly in my eyes. As a newbie using these lights, those factors didn't dawn on me until after the light was installed. I think a professional installer should have pointed out those potential placement problems. I would not recommend anyone put them on a slanted ceiling because at some place in the room that very bright light will be in your eyes, reflect on a TV, etc. On a flat overhead ceiling, it is above you and not in your eyes. After all these years, the placement of the living room light is still a problem for me, but the light on the flat ceiling of the hall is no problem at all.

Thank you for this review. We are sorry to learn that you were not completely satisfied by your experience with Sola-Lite Inc. We utilize Certified Installation Consultants, who are employees--not subcontractors, in order to give the best recommendations for size, number and placement of our products. Our showroom is also available for customers to visit and see installed Solatube Daylighting Systems first-hand. We also try to let every customer know that our advanced technology in the Solatube allows it to bring more natural light into the home than any product on the market. Sometimes a Solatube Daylighting System may bring more light into the house than a customer would like. This is not a problem because we can always tone down the light without changing the aesthetics of the Solatube. Much like changing a light bulb to a lower wattage, we offer several cost-effective measures to lower the intensity of the light. I noticed that four months after this review was posted we did send a 2-man crew to your house to add softening lenses to your Solatube Daylighting Systems. The word we received from our crew was that the toned down light was what you were hoping for. If this is the case, and you are still an Angie’s List member, I would ask that you please reconsider your ratings for Sola-Lite Inc. We feel that our Overall rating, the Product Quality rating and our Professionalism rating should be raised due to our response once we were contacted by the customer. In addition, your review states that we were on time, but we received a “B” rating for Punctuality. Please contact us if you still have any other issues or questions that we can promptly address for you.

We have an older home with insufficient natural lighting, and we were looking for a remedy at a home and garden show. There was a Sola-Lite display, and we were impressed enough to go visit the local showroom. We made an appointment to have two lights installed within the week. Gary had the lights installed quickly and with no mess. We were so impressed with the immediate change in our lighting that we asked if he could install a third light in a windowless bathroom while he was still there. We love the way the lighting in the rooms gradually shift with the changing angle of the sun's rays. On windy days, the moving branches above our house create very natural changes in the lighting (just like being outdoors). We chose the prism covers, and on sunny days we have rainbows slowly moving across the walls. It's a light show that we appreciate every day. We had the original lights installed a year ago, and last month we had a light kit installed in one of the larger lights so we can have light also at night. We have been very impressed with Jeremy, Gary, and the delightful women that are a part of this company. It is definitely worth a trip to their showroom to see a demonstration of what these lights can do.

This company did an excellent job! My husband was totally against having a hole cut in the roof, but they came out, sat down and talked to him about the installation. They double sealed and caulked around everything. It was very secure. I appreciate their good customer service. 8-14-13 I would like to update my review and say this company's service is impeccable! They have even checked with us after heavy rains to make sure we aren't having any problems, and when we did have a slight leak, John was here THE DAY we called. I can't say enough good about this company! 8-28-14 Still satisfied with the work and company still calls occasionally to see if we have any issues. 1-9-2015 This company still rates the highest marks with me! We had a little problem with the one tube and they immediately sent Gary out and took care of it almost two years later. We were VERY saddened to hear that John passed away - he left some big shoes to fill but the company continues to provide the BEST service and responsiveness!

At their office Jeremy spent a lot of time explaining and demonstrating the SolaTube materials, construction, and installed models. I picked an installation day to suit my schedule (they work on Saturdays) and Jeremy quoted a price, including sales tax. Ten days later John arrived on time at 8:30 am and carefully inspected my stairwell, attic, and roof. Together we picked the location, he stretched a tarp over my stairs, and started to work. John spent 2-3 hours in all, working cautiously and deliberately in tight spacing in the attic and from a precarious perch over my stairs, to say nothing of the roof. Finally he sat atop his ladder and patiently demonstrated the differing effects of 3 diffuser styles for me to pick from. After finishing he cleaned up thoroughly. John is one of the most agreeable and competent workers I have had in my house, and he did a neat and expert job. I am delighted with the workmanship and pleased to have the natural light in a formerly dark area.
Description of Work: John installed a 14-inch SolaTube with multi-lens diffuser over the 2-story stairwell at the center of my house.

I called Jeremy regarding an estimate for a skylight. He quoted me a price that included installation of $599.00. He honored a discount from a Home and Garden show coupon for $50.00. The price for the skylight was $549. When I inquired about the attic vent he said he would also given me the $50 discount on this also. The attic vent was $499.00 minus $50 = $449. John arrived on time and layed out a tarp to catch any debris.
Description of Work: A skylight was installed into my kitchen ceiling to brighten it. An attic roof vent was also installed to decrease the attic temperature. No wiring was required. The work was done by John in 4 hours including clean-up.

John was extremely polite and honest in his assessment of our needs. We considered two solatubes in the kitchen and John believed one was sufficient. In the computer room he suggested the 10" solatube would be sufficient, rather than the more costly 14". The quality and quantity of light from the solatube is incredible. We had a 2' X 4' skylight installed in 1991 and there's absolutely no comparison in the amount of light plus there is no heat from the light source.
Description of Work: John installed one 14" solatube in kitchen and one 10" in computer room (converted bedroom).
