The workers were on time every day. They walked us through each stage of their process and even mad subtle suggestions that had a huge impact on how my Kitchen turned out. They cleaned up after themselves every day. They did not use vulgar language in the house and were very professional. I am sure you all will have the same experience I had. James

Finding a top notch company on Angie's List adds a touch of confidence to any upcoming project. Finding a top notch company that lives up to every minute detail and promise is truly rewarding. Jeff Bryson (The Carpenters Hand) and his professional workers did just that! The day before our project was to begin, Jeff Bryson asked Jeff K. (his head electrician) to stop by our home and introduce himself. He not only introduced himself, but volunteered to later meet me at a Home Depot to help me decide on choosing ten LED recessed lights and the proper housings. His knowledgeable assistance and installation experience were greatly appreciated. Our three day project started with Jeff K. and Dustin V. (his assistant) showing up the first day and taping paper to our floor areas where they would be walking and working and hanging plastic to enclose the work area. Jeff and Dustin then removed the overhead fluorescent light box, removed our incandescent recessed light, installed the 10 LED IC housings and the associated electrical wiring and then installed the 10 LED recessed lights. His proposed plan for the placement of the lights was the perfect fit for our kitchen area - providing maximum coverage while being aesthetically pleasing. Throughout the entire day both individuals were very courteous and extremely respectful. It was like having friends over for a day of work. Their workmanship was outstanding and it was comforting to see the pride they took in each step of the installation. Once all 10 lights were installed and the dimmer switches were turned on, my wife and I were totally impressed with the coverage and the brightness. Jeff and Dustin were very conscientious about cleaning up the work area before departing that evening. The next day Ricardo showed up to do all the sheet rocking patchwork and texturing. He literally performed a touch of magic on our kitchen ceiling. He gave the newly sprayed texture 24 hours to dry before returning and painting all the required areas in meticulous fashion. Once the paint had dried, we found ourselves admiring our beautiful kitchen showcasing 10 perfectly placed LED recessed lights that looked like they had been installed when our home was originally built. Ricardo did an outstanding job cleaning up the work area both days and was not going to leave on the final day until we were totally satisfied with the finished product - and we were! I can honestly recommend "The Carpenters Hand." Jeff Bryson has all the honesty and integrity to go along with his other strong Christian values. He is a man of his word and is genuinely committed to delivering a first class product and determined that the customer be completely satisfied before receiving his final payment. The craftsmen that work for him are of the highest caliber and delivered a finished product that exceeded every one of our detailed requests. Jeff has definitely earned his "A" rating on Angie's List.
Description of Work: Jeff availed himself twice to come to our house to discuss in depth all the details of our kitchen project and ensure all our requests would be addressed to our 100% satisfaction. The cost of service included removing a dated drop down fluorescent light box (containing six fluorescent lights), removing an incandescent recessed light, installing ten LED IC housings, ten LED recessed lights, two dimmer switches, sheet rocking, match-texturing and painting where required, and all associated electrical work. I (the home owner) provided the ten housings, ten LED lights, two dimmer switches and the matching paint.

I don't often respond to reviews but wow. Thanks for the great comments and I am truly happy to have been able to help you with your project. If you could remind your neighbor Ron for me to write a review when he has a moment. By the way, because I know you and I spoke about this while I was there, I wanted to let you know that my wife on Feb. 25th passed away. She died suddenly while smiling at our youngest grandchild. Thanks again for the great words and I will pray that God bless you and your wife.

We purchased this house in the summer of 2013. It was very dated and the kitchen and master bath were not functional in our opinion. We contacted several remodeling companies using Angie's List.. All we prompt in coming to give us an estimate and listened what our concerns about the functionality of our spaces needing remodeling. There was something about the away Jeff related to our project, he had great ideas, listened to our ideas as well, so we choose his company. We are very glad we did. The job took longer than expected because we ran into some problems along the way with our plumbing and electricity and add ons, But in the end we are very pleased with the outcome. Jeff has an eye for design and experience and we appreciate all he did.
Description of Work: Jeff and his crew remodeled our kitchen and master bath. He had great ideas and has an eye for details.
This was our first contractor hire so we did the obligatory reading of reviews, calling contractors, setting up appointments and getting estimates. Angie's list was a lifesaver during this process. As with other reviewers, some contractors never called back or called weeks later, some would not provide you with a list of what they were going to do and what it would cost you, some didn't even take measurements before they gave you a quote. And then we made contact with Jeff. When I called him he was on a job site and asked if he could call me as soon as he was done with the customer he was with. I said "okay". Really thinking "okay, next person." Jeff called 15 minutes later and we made an appointment. He showed up to the appointment as scheduled and called me to let me know he was on the way. Jeff asked what we wanted and allowed us to tell him what our vision was for our bathroom, but would then make suggestions based on his experience, but always making it clear that it was our decision and that he would do whatever it was that we decided. He took some measurements and told us he would have an estimate for us in a week. As promised he had the estimate to us that outlined exactly what he was going to do and how much it was going to cost every step of the way. I liked the fact that he put down what allowances we had when choosing tile, countertops, tub, etc... Our project did go over budget but not because of Jeff, my wife decided to buy the most expensive accent tile in the world and countertops that had to be harvested by Peruvians with nothing but dull butter knives. Jeff gave us a demo start date and as promised his team showed up and cleaned out all the old stuff in our bathroom. Jeff's team was very professional, courteous and always willing to stop what they were doing to explain to us what was happening at the time. They always made sure our house was secure if they left before we were home and would clean as they performed the job. The next phase was installing tile, bathtub, resurfacing walls, painting and sheetrock repair. All was done exactly as we were promised. And after completing every phase, Jeff would ask us if we were happy with the result. His team was very responsive. For example, there were three accent tiles on the wall that my wife and I did not think were laying as flat as they should be. After talking to Jeff about it, he came, inspected them and by the next day the tiles had been reset exactly as we wanted them. This was Jeffs MO with every detail of the project. I have to mention the cabinets and the countertop. Jeff suggested we go with custom cabinets versus ready-made ones. He gave us the price difference and we decided to go with the custom cabinets. We are extremely happy with that decision. The cabinets were made by his brother and are really well made. We went with simple lines and they came out fantastic. On top of that the countertop we selected was cut exactly as it needed to be and installed beautifully. The bottom line is that my wife and I feel very lucky to have hired Jeff having heard all of the horror stories about contractors. We would recommend Jeff and his crew in a NY minute. We are enjoying our new bathroom and can't wait to see what he's going to do to our kitchen. Our thanks to The Carpenter's Hand. Joaquin and Shannon
Description of Work: Removed: bathtub, surround tile, old vanity, popcorn ceiling, old sink, countertops, mirror, popcorn ceiling. High quality workmanship; The Carpenter's Hand is responsible for two beautiful new cabinets installed at either side of our new stucco vent hood. They also put a band of distressed wood that I had previously uncovered in a lumber yard, around the base of the vent hood for a beautiful, rustic look. Probably the most challenging part was building the gorgeous refrigerator cabinet/house that includes a vertical row of wine cubbies to make use of remaining wall space to the right of the fridge. And below the cubbies they added a vertical cookie sheet cabinet. Even the refrigerator installers commented on the beauty and quality of the "fridge house" when it was time to roll the refrigerator back in! Finally they added finish trim, crown moulding, and finished out the travertine tile backsplash underneath the vent hood. They skillfully used old tile still mounted to drywall that had been removed to accommodate the new vent hood & cabinetry, making the tiles a perfect match. The entire project completely updated my kitchen and you can't tell where old meets new; it just looks like an overall fabulous kitchen. Jeff goes above and beyond when it comes to customer satisfaction. I have rarely seen a contractor like that. His men are courteous, respectful of your property, and clean up after themselves. Would I use him again? In a heartbeat!
Description of Work: Jeff and his brother Michael did a fantastic job fitting me into their busy schedule to complete my partial kitchen remodel, which another carpenter had contracted to do and had done the design work for, but had never provided any deliverables, leaving me with a non-functional and unfinished kitchen. Jeff and Michael worked with the other carpenter's designs and seamlessly finished out the job in an outstanding manner. Jeff runs a great operation and really cares about what the customer thinks. He instills that ethic into the men who work for him as well--many have worked for him for many years, a testament to his trustworthiness to take care of both clients' and workers' interests with integrity.

If you're looking for quality work at a great price, look no further than Jeff Bryson and his team of skilled workers. From the initial contact through all phases of our kitchen renovation, my wife and I found Jeff to be a wonderful Christian guy who is extremely reliable, highly concentrated on quality, and will not say the job is finished until you are 100% satisfied with his work. Although Jeff and his team had multiple projects running at the same time, he always made us feel like our kitchen remodel was his #1 priority. Thanks for everything Jeff!

Jeff Bryson and all of his workers are not only professional, but considerate, consistently there and extremely fair in all pricing. The men who work for Jeff admire him greatly because he is true to his word and good to them. We have done many remodeling jobs and have NEVER had a contractor like Jeff, who REALLY CARES that everything is done correctly. Anyone who would give Jeff a negative review HAS NOT HAD JEFF AS THEIR CONTRACTOR. Some people are just mean. Truly, we trust Jeff completely. His says what he means and he means what he says. His word is his bond. And his work ethic is "EXCELLENT" - on jobs both big and small. He is so good, if you call him today, you might have to wait a few months. But it is worth it for peace of mind. He does things right.

It does not surprise me that this gentleman was so incredibly rude to put an F on here. During my conversation with him I tried to explain that I did not show him on my schedule. I did not call him a liar but simply that I did not show him on my schedule. I just received a new phone and I am for sure not the most tech savy. However, this gentleman did not let me try and explain but rather went on the attack. I would only hope that anyone looking at this will look at the work that I have completed for my customers and can also look to the better business bureau where I also have an A+ rating. It is ashame that I have to address this for someone that I have never even met. If this gentleman would have been willing to discuss the manner in a civil manner I would have been happy to meet him whenever it would have been convenient to him. I don't claim to be flawless or perfect but I do make every attempt to correct any problems on my jobs and to rectify situations like this. As for (deleted member name) if he would like to be civil in this matter I would be happy to still go at his convenience to see if I could give him direction or advice on his job if he requested it. I don't deny that I may have missed an appt. It is quite possible that I did not input the information correctly as I am getting use to this new phone. Or simply that I made a mistake.

The work went very well. Jeff and his employees were on time and very professional. They cleaned up every day before leaving for the day. They covered my furniture and floors when they were doing the demolition. All of my questions were answered and the job started on time. I needed help in choosing the tile and paint and Jeff took the time to go with me to assist in making wonderful selections. The finished work is absolutely beautify. It turned out better than my expectations. His help did not stop there. He also assisted me with the claims adjuster. He spoke with her and explained all of the services and costs that were provided. His assistance resulted in my payment for the claim being more than I could have gotten on my own. I would definitely recommend utilizing Jeff when dealing with an insurance company claim. Jeff's overall work on my bathroom repair was excellent. He very pleasant and easy to work with. He responded to phone calls in a timely manner. I would definitely recommend the Carpenter's Hand to anyone looking for a great contractor.
Description of Work: Carpenter's Hand repaired my bathroom that was damaged by a water leak. They replaced the shower surround with tile, tiled the floor, repaired holes in the wall, replaced the tub and painted the bathroom and base boards. The water from the a broken water faucet assembly cartridge.
I'll start the review with the bottom line: I am totally satisfied with all aspects of the job -- price, quality, service, responsiveness to issues / problems, timeliness -- the entire package. For any future projects (and I've got a few in mind) The Carpenters Hand will be my first and only call. Jeff (the owner) responded to my first call promptly, showed up on time, spend an enormous amount of time finding out exactly what we wanted to do, and even suggested alternative approaches that might save time or money. He took measurements and inspected the structures to discover any hidden problems or issues that might need to be addressed during the project so that any "surprises" could be minimized. He gave me a "ballpark" estimate before leaving and followed up with a detailed written quote shortly thereafter. Once I approved the work things happened very quickly. We selected materials (stones / wood / cabinet style) and were ready to go. I was impressed by all of the subcontractors -- they were without exception real craftsmen at their trades and proud of their work. They showed up as scheduled, worked hard, were friendly and exceptionally considerate of the fact that they were working in our home, and cleaned up every day before leaving. In my experience one critical factor in judging a contractors performance is how they perform when problems occur. In our case nothing big but we did have one issue that stood out. Jeff had told me before we started that I would really be impressed with the stone workers (countertops) and that in all the years of using them he'd only had a single problem. Wouldn't you know it. In installing the bar top (11 feet x 18 inches) they had to seam the granite and to my eye the seam was poorly placed at the open end of the bar rather than at the wall end where it would not be so visible. It also seemed to be not completely level. I called Jeff and suggested to him that it didn't look quite right to me and that he might want to come and inspect it. His immediate response was "if you're not happy, I'm not happy. They'll be by to replace it." Sure enough within 2 hours they showed up and removed the granite and 2 days later replaced it. I know this cost someone some money that wasn't in the budget, but it was done quickly and without any problem. I think this one instance exemplifies the total attitude towards taking care of the customer. Of course we also had some changes we made to the original plan while things were in process. They too were exceptionally well handled. Every add on (replacing the disposal, updating electrical outlets to cosmetically match the tiles, rebuilding vs refacing the island, etc.) resulted in an itemized change order for preapproval before any work was done. The only surprise to me was how often the small changes were simply accommodated within the existing quote. One final note, Jeff had done a lot of kitchens and this is our first so his advice was invaluable. At one point we were totally at a loss as to what to do for the backsplash as far as materials and design -- we had all cabinets and counter tops in and loved the look. The only problem was that we could not envision what would work on the walls and didn't want to screw up the great work done so far with a poor selection. We did have some ideas and a few potential tiles picked out, but no clear path. Jeff (who as I said has pretty much seen it all) came out and spent time discussing and suggesting -- in the end he validated a few of our samples and helped us put together a simple but elegant design that matched our design vision perfectly.
Description of Work: Complete kitchen update of our 20 year old tract home. The entire job consisted of basically two main components: cabinets and countertops / backsplashes. We did not do floors, lighting, or walls. We refaced the existing cabinet boxes with solid wood (cherry) doors with updated european soft close hinges along with (really thick) veneer facings. Also built and installed new drawer boxes with full extension ball bearing slides. Beyond just replacing the existing doors / drawer structure he also accommodated us by updating the overall cabinet design within the existing boxes --for example several small side-by-side drawers were replaced with a single wider drawer resulting in a cleaner, more modern appearance and a 25% increase in storage capacity. When it came to the small island we ended up having the entire structure rebuilt in solid cherry rather than merely refacing the existing and also converted it to all drawers -- really ended up being a stunning job and looks more like a piece of furniture than a cabinet. We also replaced all of the countertops -- and there were a lot - with granite and marble (for the island). Backsplashes were done in marble subway tiles with ceramic accent tiles. We also opted to replace the stainless sink with an updated model.

The Carpenter's Hand did a tremendous job. I was putting my house on the market and needed a quality high-end fireplace remodel quickly. The job was done with excellent turnaround time and great all around service.
Description of Work: Travertine marble fireplace remodel
We found Jeff Bryson on Angies List. He came out and gave us an estimate, with work to be started as soon as possible. It was all finished in about a week. But an unexpected plumbing problem caused some of the wall to be replaced and redone. The results were great. Even did more work than expected. Luis, Lein, Johnny and Omar did a beautiful job on the remodeling of my bathroom. They were experienced and knowledgeable. Jeff is very responsible, oversees the project and handles all problems promptly. He is trustworthy and nice, makes sure all work is completed to your satisfaction. I would not hesitate to hire him again and will definitely recommend him to others. I am very happy and satified with the beautiful results!
Description of Work: Finished a project started by another person. Replaced board behind sheet-rock, put up backer board, did waterproofing, connected plumbing to cast iron shower tray, put in shelf, tiled shower wall, put in faucet, removed toilet, tiled under, grouted wall and floor, replaced toilet. Had unexpected plumbing problem, took out part of wall, fixed the plumbing and replaced wall and tile.
Mr. Jeff Bryson and his crew of Lewis & Linn are the equivalent of the new Mike Holmes of San Antonio. They are dependable, friendly, courteous, polite. Their expertise in tile work and understanding of bathroom & kitchen renovation is way above any standard I know of. I could not have asked for a better group of people to work with. They were on the job every day Monday thru Friday promptly at 0800 hours and worked a full day keeping me advised of their daily progress. They were extremely polite and helpful when questions were asked. I would not hesitate to have them do any work I needed in the future as they were all very knowledgeable in all areas of renovation. I will recommend them to my family & friends needing work done on their homes. A fantastic job overall. My previous experience with contractors have mostly been negative but this young group exceeded all my expectations and have restored my faith. I will in the future continue to use Angie's List as a tool to finding the best qualified personnel to do my jobs and this young group deserve any and all considerations when looking for the right group to do your job.

Superior experience from start to finish. Stayed in communication with us during entire project, calling before arrival or with any delays. Worked full days, sometimes into the evening, in order to coordinate with our work schedules. This company cared about our home and was only worried about one thing-doing the job the right way, to our complete satisfaction. It's nice to know there is a company out there that holds true to that-not just by what they say but by what they do. It's also nice to know we have a company we can return to without hesitation.

We had floor tile laid in 2 bathrooms. The 2 gentlemen doing the job were very professional and took the time to explain what they were going to do and explained how long it would probably take. They proceeded with the repairs completing the tear out of prior floor covering and preparing floor for new tile on the first day. On the second day they laid the tile, completed the grouting, re-set the toilets and cleaned up appropriately when they finished. We have been very pleased with the work performed and will not hesitate to contact them for future work. Mr Bryson was very helpful and took more than a reasonable amount of time to explain what would be done and how soon they could start repairs. He also followed up with phone calls regarding the progress of repairs during a difficult time with an illness in his family. Great job.

I think Jeff, the owner is very professional and he took care of any problems we had. I enjoyed the workers but I had some issues with their punctuality. However, I spoke to Jeff about that and everything was fine. He gave us more than a fair price. I thought they did a very good job with the texturing and I am pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: They painted our kitchen. They painted over the wallpaper so they had to texture the walls and then paint over it. They also replaced some outdoor siding.

Jeff, Luis, and Lynn were very professional and courteous. We were very happy with their work ethics. This was our first major remodeling job and overall it was a good experience and would use The Carpenters Hand again.
Description of Work: Removed old countertops and replaced with granite. Removed old backsplash and sheetrock and replaced with new sheetrock and new tile backsplash. Took out old appliances (wall oven, microwave, refrigerator, stove, and vent hood) and installed new appliances. On the stove, we had a counter stove top only. Had it removed along with cabinet and replaced with a slidein range which has a oven; we were happy because we always wanted a second oven. Since our stove was gas and a counter top, Jeff had to re-route the gas line to accomodate our new slide in range which also made us happy because he was able to make it work. There were a couple of hiccups with the oven and it took three deliveries before we received a good one and Jeff accomodates us with the delay. Jeff was also patience with us while we decided which tile and design to go with.

They are good workers. They are friendly and they keep asking is this what you want. They just take everything into consideration. If you make a little comment about something that does not look quite right to you, they will go back and look at it and they will come back and change it so you like it.
Description of Work: We are using The Carpenter's Hand for the leaving room and front room. They are putting new tiling redoing our stairs.
We just finished building a shower in our home and we are very pleased that we found ?The Carpenter?s Hand? to do this job. Mr. Jeff Bryson, tile and shower specialist is a knowledgeable and honest person that together with his employees, one an expert in installing tiles and the other skilled in wood work/paint, makes up a very good team. Jeff himself does plumbing. We were able to interact with Jeff and his team in each step of the project. As the project evolved a few difficulties were found, but Jeff easily took care of them. The team didn?t have a problem to work extra hours until all the work was perfectly done. We fully recommend ?The Carpenter?s Hand? for building, remodeling, or repairs. The quality of the work is great, and his price is very reasonable compared with other contractors. If you are interested in remodeling or building a high quality shower, we really recommend Jeff Bryson. He knows what he is doing. We give an A+ to The Carpenter?s Hand.

To install bench was required some plumbing work. Build pre slop, curve, installation of liner, testing the liner, build mortar over the liner; tile installation, grouting, and sealing; shower fixtures and toilet installation; and texture and painting of walls. Work done on vanity area: texture and painting of the walls and door.
