+ -1 moreJim, the owner was very responsive to get to job and it was done well and on time. The problem has been a real lack of follow thru and meeting agreements after installation. I have called, talked to Jim, left voice mails and messages for over a week asking for some kind of written warranty on the carpet and installation. Despite numerous promises, etc, nothing has been received as promised. If you want good customer service after the installation, there are plenty of other options. Very disappointed.
Description of Work: 2 bedrooms of new carpet.

My issue is if you give a person a bid estimate and he accepts and pays you that amount you should make it clear up front that you reserve the right to come back and ask for additional $ to cover things like what I've described. Everyone connected with this project to include all the showroom folks and install coordinators did a great job. I guess I'm old school when you strke a bargain on an agreed upon price it seems odd to revise and ask for more later. To their credit initially I was going with a more expensive floor covering but a few weeks out I instead opted to go with vinyl linoleum instead of the wood laminate planking. All told they did a good job. If you hire them ensure that the final agreed upon price is just that. It can really disrupt your budget otherwise
Description of Work: The home was originally built in 1961. I purchased it in 2000 but had to move off with military. Kept it as rental. Had so-so property mgr. When tenants were out in June of this year I began getting floor repair estimates. There was wood rot and termite dmg which the Remax folks didnt know cuz tenants never told them and I guess with my "mgt fees" for all those years at Ft Hood, Ft Polk and Ft Jackson they never conducted inspections and the tenants were not going to sound off on things which either didnt matter to them or else had been casued by them. In short after years of unappreciative tenants the flooring needed complete do over. Ms Steinhour came out and measured after I visited the shop and looked at the linoleum and laminate offerings. Since laminate tends to not do well in heat I went with vinyl. I informed the folks at Sunn that floor work would come only after I had the foundation leveled. Which I did. The foundation work folks cut sizable squares out from the hardwood. I told Ms Steinhour if that would be a problem. I now realize I should have demanded that someone from the company come to the house to view the holes. I didnt ask and so they didnt. She just said that filling in the cut out holes should be no problem. Eventually after they were nice enough to resched due to interior paint job the flooring team arrived. I guess I erred in either not giving her the precise dimensions of the floor cut outs or in not having someone from the company come see for themselves. I spoke with Ms Steinhour. She stated that foundation companies normally don't cut the holes so big but that they would fill in the space in order to do the project. Long story short I paid 1/2 up front and the other half a few days prior to start of project. I was under the impression erroneous as it turns out that they would not be coming back asking for more money. But just yesterday I got a bill for the flooring fill in. Which is not that big a deal but in chatting with Steinhour she more or less told me that they would "handle it" which in my book meant absorb the cost of the floor fill in. I had told them from the git go about the interior flooring cut outs for the pier placement. I think she assumed they were far smaller than the nearly 1 sq yard flooring cut outs in the hardwood. I probably should have insisted on a flooring person coming out in person to see the result of the foundation work and/or provided measurements for the holes cut into the hardwood. If you have flooring cut out of your floor ask the foundation guys to save the hardwood to be laid back down in the cut out hole. Most of the wood cut out was not all that good so I'm sure the replacement wood is better than what was there.

+ -1 moreI bought a $200 big deal for this service and it turned out great. It ended up costing about $600. This price included carpet, backing, installation, labor and all that stuff. I ended up going with an upgraded carpet. The property manager said it went really smoothly. He normally does not do this, but we approved for him to tip the workers. They were very, very clean and were in and out very quickly. They did not leave any mess and even when they took up the old carpet, which was pretty nasty -- we had already had the house professionally cleaned -- they were careful not to droop any pieces of dust or anything or get it anywhere over the house. We shopped around a little bit and they definitely were the most affordable. The quality of the carpet seemed nice. They showed up when they said they were.

We explained what we were looking for in a carpet, and he gave us examples of carpet that would suit our purpose and our budget! The installation crew arrived timely and finished the work within the timeline we were told. Now a year later, the carpet is in great shape. We're still glad we made the purchase!

+ 0 moreFrom the time of meeting Jim Coleman with the carpeting sales and examining the wide selection of flooring products, we learned more about carpeting, options and were given plenty of time to choose colors and types of carpeting to be installed in our home. There was never any sales pressure but we were given pros and cons and pricing that was educational and fair. We shopped several flooring businesses in San Antonio and we were impressed with the knowledge of carpeting that this company had above others. We were given a realistic time line for ordering and delivery and installation of the carpeting. An excellent team of three arrived on time and ready to remove existing carpeting, vacuum floor surfaces and then install new padding and carpeting. Carpeting was ordered in best widths to take advantage of limiting number of seams in rooms and team worked diligently to have carpeting installed, furniture moved carefully back into place and area cleaned up from cutting and installation scraps before departing. Mr. Coleman contacted us as project installation began and at end of installation to insure that we were satisfied customers. We have beautiful carpeting that will serve us well for many years. This company gave us fair pricing, excellent customer service, and professional installation service - no lumps, unnecessary seams, gaps between carpeting and baseboards or tile floors. We recommend this company and their teams in sales and installation to residential and business customers who want First Class service!

They did however cut carpet too short in our coat closet which left gaps around the back edges of the wall and too short in the front. I notified the contractor that did the remodeling for us and he was supposed to call them back to fix the problem but nobody ever showed up or call us to schedule to come out to fix the job.

When it was revealed that we may have an old asbestos tile issue underneath the existing carpet, they came out again to discuss the importance of handling this correctly. Another visit was scheduled with a consultant to discuss the legal side and proper procedure for handling this type of job. Another meeting is pending with an asbestos abatement contractor. SUNN has been very cooperative, understanding, and eager to work with us on this big scale project. We are hoping to pursue this but need to see how much the abatement will cost first.

+ 0 moreWe first picked our carpet in June, but because of on-going events in our home, we didn't have it installed until late September. We worked with Katie, who was patient and helpful. She was willing to wait until we could have it installed. They called to tell us when it would be installed, which gave us plenty of time to clear things out. The installers arrived on time, went to work, worked all day, and did a beautiful job. You can't tell where any of the seams are. They cleaned up after themselves, so we were able to start moving our items back in the room. They had moved the furniture, but we were asked to remove any breakable items, first, which we did. We would definitely use Sunn Carpets again.

The gentleman Sunn sent was thorough, courteous, professional and impressed me with his skill. Carpet looks great and seams are nearly invisible. Wish I'd had Sunn do the original installation.

+ -1 moreThey kept us informed of the problem with the fragile items that they are not supposed to move.
Description of Work: This company is great in communicating with the customer. Although we haven't had a chance to use them because of the customer's inablility to move some of the fragile items in the room, we will work on moving these items so that the carpet can be stretched. I am writing this on behalf of a 93-year old lady, who has lots of precious items that will have to be moved by someone else. But Sunn Carpets kept us up-to-date and we will contact them again as soon as possible to set up another appointment.
