The installation went well and was finished in a reasonable time frame. Great job Flip! And thanks... I have more work for Shafer Services.
Description of Work: After purchasing a shower door from Lowe's, I had a problem getting them to install it. One of the employees at Lowe's suggested I try Shafer Services and she made my name and contact info available on-line. Shafer Services contacted me the same day. We set up a date and time, and Flip Ehrgott showed up at the agreed upon day and time. He took a look at the situation and gave me a bid shortly thereafter. I accepted the bid and he went to Lowe's and picked up the shower door, returned to my home and proceeded to begin working. After examining the directions he determined that the vertical part of the frame would require cutting. The 65" door as stated in the directions was actually 69" high. The opening was 66 1/2" high. Only a problem if the 69" frame could not be cut to fit the opening. A few very careful measurements and Flip was able to accommodate the door with actual opening dimensions.

Called Shafer the day prior and set up appointment. They called the next day to verifify if it was OK to show up early, and we agreed. Larry and Franc did the work. Larry inspected the old disposal and it indeed had broken. He showed me where the blades had separated from the wheel. The metal on the wheel actually failed. He then put a proposal together with three options ranging in price from $450 to $720 explaining the options, quality, and warranties for each model. We took the middle one at $670 with 3/4 horsepower, stainless steel blades, double grinding, and 6 year warranty. After the installation, they tested for leaking and cleaned up nicely. The whole process from them arriving and leaving took around 45 minutes. The actual cost was 10% less for us since we have a maintenance agreement with Shafer. The new disposal is extremely quiet and can barely be heard, especially when comparing to the old unit that came with the house. A little pricey, but awesome service and products. Office folks are great too.

We were windering why there wasn't the hot water wasn't very hot. Turns out there was a slow leak from rusting in the top of one of the two gas-powered, hot water heaters installed upstairs. Called Shafer to have someone come out and stop the leaking. Ismael came within an hour and stopped the leak, explained the proper way to do so for the future, as well as providing an estimate on different new heater models to include how the heater was constructed and the warranty. Ismael and Christina did the work the next day. Ismael explained everything and the hot water seems better than it ever was. These folks are great. Although it seems expensive, it's worth it for the service, professionalism, and quality products they offer. Office staff are great to work with as well.

Estimate went very well. Larry came out, and was on time. He walked the house with me and was very knowledgable regarding what needed to be done. He answered my questions and gave me a written estimate. After getting other estimates, I will not be using Shafer, but only due to the cost. Larry was very professional and knowledgable.

A new toilet flange and new toilet were put in. When the toilet was checked, water came out from underneath. Robert ran the auger and was not able to clear the clog. The total cost of the call was $1383. He came back the next day to run the camera to see what the issue was. After using the camera he diagnosed a break provided a quote of $7000 to repair the break. The total of that call was $297. Our insurance sent out a company to verify the break and they found we had a lot of build up in our lines. They cleaned it out and said there was no break. I was very disappointed in the cost especially since for all intents and purposes we paid almost $1,700 for a new toilet. I will not use Shafer Services again.

I called Shafer services and they diagnosed the compressor as the issue with my AC system. The AC technicians were professional and I'm satisfied with the quality of the work completed. I have a couple of issues. The replacement part only has a one year warranty. This seems low given the first compressor failed after just over one year. The job took 3 hours and the labor charge was $1500 (the part was covered under the original warranty). $500 per hour seems a bit high for labor charges. Additionally, I called and asked to speak to a manager regarding the labor charges; however, no one returned my call. The work was good; however, I lowered the rating due to cost.
Description of Work: I called Shafer services and they diagnosed the compressor as the issue with my AC system. They replaced the compressor and dryer. They also conducted a 1 hour vacuum test, recharged the system with refrigerant and conducted a temperature split test in the house with the system running.

Philip E was the remodeling specialist working on our shower. His work was vey well done. The source of the leak was not obvious so Philip had to proceed in steps to solve the problem. He always provided an estimate and gave us options on how to proceed for the next step. Philip's very professional and helpful manner made it easier for us to decide on which option to choose. (The problem turned out to be a leak in one of the glass blocks.) The scheduler for Schafer Services provided specific times, not 4-hour windows, and Philip was always on schedule. Overall, we are very pleased with the quality of the work provided.
Description of Work: We had a leak in the walk-in shower in the master bath. Shafer Services did the following * caulked around the edge of the glass block shower wall and inside the shower where some caulk was missing * when this didn't stop the leak, they replaced the glass block wall with a tempered glass wall and door at our request * replaced part of the wall in the closet behind the shower that was damaged by the leak * hung a grab bar at the end of the shower.

Shafer Services came for their annual AC Checkup and found that our 10yr old Trane system had reached the end of its useful life. Booth P. who is the Design Consultant for Shafer came out and we reviewed several replacement system upgrades. We chose the American Standard Platinum 18 AccuComfort variable speed system. We also had some issues with wir flow to certain parts of our home and Booth preformed an Airflow test and made some recommendations that could be completed during the installation of the HVAC system. Obviously this was a major expense ($14,000.00) and Shaver did provide good financing terms making this project affordable as well. Thomas H. and his crew came and completed the removal and installation of the HVAC System insuring that the new system met all current codes. They also completed the reworking of the duct system. All work was completed and the new system running in 1 1/2 days work without loosing any air conditioning needs for the home. In addition to replacing the HVAC system I needed to replace the hot water heaters (I did this work myself); however, I was unable to drop the existing hot water heater from the attic and bring up the new hot water heater by myself. Thomas and his crew went above and beyond their job description and removed the existing hot water heater and brought the new hot water heater up into the attic for me to connect. A big thumbs up to Shafer Services and all who were involved in this major project. Rick R.

The unit in my office had plugged the drain line with mold that had been growing inside the unit and flooded my office. The installing dealer (NOT Shafer) told me to clean it with clorox and wished me luck. They had "cleaned" the unit a few days before. My efforts resulted in a huge mess. My wife tracked down Shafer as a recommended Mitsubishi service provider - they came - took a look Monday and did a quick fix to stop the leak, and scheduled a complete teardown and clean on Wednesday that left the units looking like new. It's time for another routine service and we've just decided to move that contract to Shafer Services, away from the installing dealer.

Positive: The service was completed. It was hard to get out...took 2 people. Negatives: not super friendly; felt like he didn't want to be there. Didn't have a retainer clip....the one on there was pretty bad....this is. $1.99 item.....and they are plumbers! I already had new stem so he gave me a discount and had turned off the water myself, discount. Told me if he had to go get the clip he would charge me full price. Let them bend the old one back....didn't even have a screwdriver with him, used mine. So with discounts how much do u think it was? $60 service fee, $200 to replace the stem. Total. $260. Told them Angie list and didn't get discount for service call either.......

Went to take a shower on a cold January Sunday night and the hot water was ice cold. Climbed up above the garage where the water heater sits and the water heater catch pan was full of water. So I shut off the water supply and gas to the heater and called Shafer Services on Monday morning after reading mostly positive reviews about them on Angie's list. A nice woman promptly answered the call and was able to schedule someone to come out between 3-3:30PM that day. They called, as promised, 30 mins before to allow me the time to get home from work. The rep showed up within the scheduled window and diagnosed that the 11-year-old water heater had cracked and would need to be replaced. After a thorough explanation of the options I was given a quote of $1800 which included around $215 for labor to remove the old heater from the attic and get the new one up there (understandable). The rep said he could have it done that day. The cost was tough to swallow, but the rep seemed honest and I needed the water heater fixed ASAP. So I authorized the repair not having any other quotes or idea what heaters cost. The rep called another employee at Shafer and asked him to bring a replacement 40 Gallon Rheem water heater, which he said would be better and more reliable than the Bradford White one I had. The two men disconnected the old heater and carefully removed it from the attic down the swing down trap door in the ceiling, then hauled up the new one and got it all connected. The work included installing an expansion tank which was required by code, new lines, better valves, and fixing the leaking drainage pipe from the catch pan. They also moved the water heater location so it properly lined up with the roof vent pipe, which wasn't even connected to the old water heater thanks to the roofers I had a few years ago who never took care of it properly. When all was said and done the work done was excellent and no mess was left behind, nor any damage I could see. I was told to give the system about 45 minutes to get hot water and the rep helped me make sure the air was bled out of the lines and water was flowing. No issues with the hot water so far. That night out of curiosity I decided to look at the prices of the new water heater they installed. Probably a bad idea. The retail cost was around $550-600! So I felt like maybe I had been taken advantage of. The invoice I was provided didn't break out the pricing of the individual items other than the water heater at $1450 or so for the water heater, the expansion tank (around $140) and the attic access (around $215). So I assumed labor and materials were built into the $1450 cost but $800+ seemed excessive. So I wrote an email to the company that night expressing my concern about the pricing and asking for a breakdown of the costs to justify the amount spent. At 8:30 the next morning I got a call from Charlie Shafer. He seemed very nice and politely explained that all plumbing companies these days are rolling all their costs into single line items, but that the $800+ included the labor, materials, and city permits required, as well as the 1-year warranty they provide if anything goes wrong. He stated he regularly compares his pricing to other vendors and strives only for a 10% profit margin. He said his prices are very competitive compared to others in the area. He also said I could have bought the heater myself and the overall cost would likely have been a bit less, but that he then couldn't warrant the system (not sure if that was just the heater, or the entire job). In any case, he didn't seem like he was out to gouge me but I still thought the price to be a bit high. Regardless, overall I'm very satisfied with their willingness to be there the same day and fix the problem, their punctuality and courteousness, the solid work they did and the professionalism getting the job done. Even the prompt follow-up call to clarify the costs. So even if turns out to be true that I spent more than I should have, there is something to be said about a job well done.

Called Shafer Services because water was coming through second story to bottom floor. They responded within a couple of hours, when nobody else would come the same day. A gentleman named Bob and his apprentice named Ismael came to my home. They were neatly dressed, polite, and courteous . Bob diagnosed the problem, quoted me a price and promptly made the repair while teaching the young man. They took great care protecting my home so nothing would be damaged during the process. Extremely overcharged for the services. We had a water leak flooding the front yard. The technicians surveyed the situation and decided to check the outside water faucet nearest the water in the lawn. A 2'X2; hole was dug but showed no water leakage. The technicians then went inside the garage, opened the wall adjacent to the outside faucet, turned off the water at the street, cut the pipe, ran a ?fish? tape inside the pipe to determine the next place of inspection. This pointed to a small area on the other side of the garage. The wall was opened, but show no signs of leakage. A probe was then used on the outside of the garage. This indicated water within 4 to 6 inches of the surface. Another 2'X2' hole was dug and water was evident. The techs cleared the pipe coming from the street, turned the water back on at the street. Water was leaking from a major break at the PVC connection from the street to the copper connection to the house. The Techs repaired the connection with about $5 worth of parts. Water was turned on and tested. All holes were filled and the pipe that was cut was repaired. It took less less than 5 hours the repair the leak. The original ?ball park? estimate was $800 to $1200 depending on whether the leak was in the slab and addition piping was required. My bill was $1730.00 ($346 per hour labor) to replace $5 dollars in parts. I will gladly pay reasonable charges for services rendered, but I am not happy this charge. Now that I think about it. the red flag was the Mercedes panel van that the technicians drove to my house. Will not hire again or refer this company.

Went Fantastic. Called the night before for a heads up that we'd need someone to look at one of two A/C units. Blower was running, but Compressor/Fan wasn't running. Dispatch called the next morning actually a few minutes before their scheduled business hours set up a service call. They called back and said a technician was on his way, and so he was. Terry was our guy. Terry replaced the blown capacitor. Turns out they did a maintenance check a month or so ago recommending ... guess what ... a new capacitor. We should have had it done then. A/C Worked great afterwards. He also recommended replacing the fans and explained what happens when the fan fails. Terry also showed me a picture of what would happen: a frozen coil. The warranty had expired since the systems were over 6 years old, so spending more than $3000 for a coil on a single system didn't seem prudent when the fans would eventually fail anyway and cost about $600 each. So we set up the fan replacements too. In fact, Shafer called back within half an hour after Terry left to set up the service. We use their maintenance service as well and been for over 5 years or so. Their work is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. If you wnt it done right the first time with great service, cal them. These guys are awesome.
